Hi! I've been a fan of this franchise and have read all the chapters available in each spin-off cause I've always found the concept very interesting. What you said about feeling the series odd in the last 5 or so chapters can be explained because the 2-3 year hiatus the manga had (between chapter 27 and 28). Personally, I share the same feeling that the ending wasn't as well executed as it should be, especially since 28-29 were promoted as part of collaboration material, and not as full chapters where we focus at least most notably on our main characters. According to the publishers in twitter, the pause was made so that they could make better stories for the future, but I'm pretty sure those plans were scraped cause we only got 2 final chapters and, as said before, they were part of a collaboration of recent topics. Maybe in the end the author decided to only focus on supervising the other Spin-offs in her full time (at least that's what I'm assuming). It really does feel like they were going to continue somewhere with the story. In my opinion, the pace of Chapters 26 and 27 feel like the beginning of a new season to the point that the anime used the first one for episode 1 in the 2nd season of the anime, even though it didn't make sense chronologically speaking. I've also seen an interview where the author explains she had some problems creating the series. It says she couldn't go in directions she would have liked to because of the setting (and possibly the demographic). Pretty sure she might have liked to concentrate on the Spin-offs for that reason. The spin-offs focus in different things the original wouldn't have gone to (more complex relationship dynamics and more delicate medical topics). I really would recommend them for that reason, specially if you like the world of the series.
