Nice video Jonathan and congratulations on being one of the few to resist pulling that parachute handle during your flight. Raul over at FSReborn really knocked it out of the park with this aircraft. It's just an absolute pleasure to fly low and slow -- especially in VR!
I picked this plane up a few weeks ago when shopping for a ride to enjoy the sims fantastic views. It came down to the Sting or the Optica, and the Sting won my purchase. It's a joy to fly in most conditions but it does get tossed around easily on windy days, but that's a trade off for it being so light and so fuel efficient. One of the things that impressed me with this plane was its ability to run on automotive fuel which in my area runs at about 50~60% of AVgas prices. Depending on loading and power settings you can cruise at something around 3.5~4.0 gallons per hour.. I know I'm weird because I like to calculate fuel costs for my virtual travels to help put a budgeting perspective on them.. at least with the GA aircraft. The only bad thing I can say is that some of the autopilot buttons in the cockpit are inop, but at least it has one. I'd say the default asobo JMB ultralight handles similar to the Sting ,if you want to fly something without opening your wallet, but the JMB lacks any auto pilot.
Please check the latest update from last week. We worked hard to work around the overdone wind/turbulence effects until MS/Asobo will fix that hopefully later officially.
@@thorstenruerup1486 I haven’t flown your plane (planning too though!) but, having learned to fly in a Gobosh 700 on the Colorado Front Range, believe me, getting tossed around in this size plane is perfectly normal. 😱
I purchased this plane way back when I was new to MSFS. I couldn't get the throttle to work. It was bind to throttle 1 instead of just throttle. I never knew about the settings inside the sim until this plane. They give you plenty options and liveries. One flaw, if I remember right, is that you can open the door but when you view it outside the plane, it's closed. Good value though and fun to fly.
Would be interesting if you can reproduce that issue with the canopy as it sounds new to me. We never received a report for that one. But the canopy is quite special and we changed again the behavior a few updates ago. Try to open in flight and have some fun ;)
I bought this plane the day it came out. It's still one my absolute favorites. Worth noting is that you should try to avoid accidentally opening the canopy while in flight. The modeled that too and it won't close all the way while in flight, which makes for a rather... Noisy journey. Discovered that one by accident while trying to click something on another monitor. Didn't notice the pointer on the sim was right over the canopy lever. 😅
Thank you for bringing this wonder little GA plane to my attention. I have been looking for a high visibility, well modeled, modern airplane for sightseeing flights; this looks like it is the ticket. I’m not sure which costs more, the airplane or the avionics, but it’s a MSFS, so we can enjoy it all at at the cost of a few gallons of gas. Well done Jon. Thx again.
Looks like I'll be adding this one, the Vision Jet is my current favourite, think the price is very attractive, so good to be getting the quality of aircraft like this.
Hello Jonathan, i’m looking at buying a ultra light and can not choose between the sting and the blackwing….some might say, get both 😊….but which one you like better or has the better flightmodel, according to your expert advice ?
I love the S4. Pretty much the closest msfs gets to actually flying (for me anyway). The only thing I don't love is the stock VL3 sound, but that's really fixed.
Very nise airplane and presentation as well. As you said is perfect for VFR site seeing. In the video you mention which aifield/airport you do this flight but I wasn't able to understand - I'm not native english speaker. Can you please help?
Came to check out your review of this. Going to have to pick this one up. Looks great. Also, as I know you like me are not an actual pilot, I wanted to make you aware of a mistake you made that I only just recently was corrected of. At 10:30, you refer to your maneuver as a side-slip. I too have used that term interchangeably with crabbing, but what you did there is actually a crab. Crabbing is the turning the nose into the wind whereas side slipping is banking the aircraft into the wind so as to counteract it. I saw a training video today where they talked about the differences and it surprised me as i took them to be synonymous. This is the vid I had caught. Has some really great stuff I want to practice in my crosswind landings. Thanks again for the vids. ua-cam.com/video/92K8s-vppDI/v-deo.htmlsi=aPrB88aH1UJXR7dU
If you talk to 10 different pilots about correct techniques, and what they call each technique, you will get 10 different answers. If you then ask the internet, you will get mansplained at by 20 more people (who will continue to argue among themselves) :) As long as it's clear what you are doing, it really doesn't matter too much :)
Apologies. Not looking to mansplain anything or be overly pedantic. I was surprised to hear the difference myself as I had taken them to be one in the same. One involves dipping a wing and the other involves turning the nose. I was ignorant as to their being two different terms and was passing the info along, but certainly feel free to simply enjoy flying. I think its an important distinction as I am now reading of both as differing approach styles, but as you said, to each their own. Just don't know how far that goes in flying.
It's AUT FEATHER - Auto Feathering. When the power being produced by the engine drops to the point where it is not contributing to thrust, the propeller will go into a feathered mode to reduce drag.
I was helping with beta-testing the sim version of the plane. I own one in real life and it is just as awesome in terms of visibility as in the sim … here is an example ua-cam.com/video/W13e5BXuyAM/v-deo.html
I picked this up over the holidays. I love it! This quality, within this price range is going to get my support every time.
It's good, isn't it.
Sold on the tablet. Your smashing these reviews at the moment sir! Top job.
Cheers :)
@@jonbeckett although my wallet might not have same opinion, it respectfully requests you slow down these videos as your making it work hard🤣

To be honest, I forgot to show it :)
I love the visibility in this plane. It’s like flying a big dashboard in the sky..!
It really is :)
I have this and I love it, the amount of immersion and simulation this aircraft brings is just amazing. And the parachute works!
Yes - I'll do a flight soon, and pull the parachute lever on purpose :)
i'm in the Evektor Sportstar light. the real one!... crazy fun but hates windy days.....and at a Bravo airport...tricky fun!

Wow! This is the real deal! Thanks for highlighting this plane. By the end of the video, I was shouting, “Shut up, and take my money!”
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very nice video. Thanks for the review! The Sting is indeed a wonderful plane to fly.

Thanks for a great video. Used to own a Sting S3. It was a great aircraft!
Glad you enjoyed it

Heh - at least it's not like the Kodiak, that over-stresses the aircraft if you open the storm window while in-flight.

Need a demo of the parachute if you take this out again! Great little plane.
Will do

Hello Jonathan, i’m looking at buying a ultra light and can not choose between the sting and the blackwing….some might say, get both 😊….but which one you like better or has the better flightmodel, according to your expert advice ?
First - I'm no expert :) I like the Sting. It has a lot of extra functionality built in.
I love the S4. Pretty much the closest msfs gets to actually flying (for me anyway). The only thing I don't love is the stock VL3 sound, but that's really fixed.
I didn't even notice.
Many ultralight fly with similar engine : Rotax 912 UL. The power is changing according to direct injection, with or without turbo, etc.
Hello, I have a question, what speed does the Sting have to activate the 15-degree flaps for landing?
thanks!
Google "Sting S4 POH" and all your questions will be answered :)
Any updates to the Sting since the release of this video =)
Perfect for VR. I also like DA40 NG

Great review. Thank you…
Thanks for watching!
That’s another £20.99 you owe me ! 😂😂😂 What a cool little plane ! Cheers 🍻 Jonathan 👍🙏🏻❤️👨✈️✈️
😁
Great video,😊 I love GA aircraft but not got this one! But not for long
Good choice!
Great review! In this and the Jabiru review, in Boonville, are you using any weather presets or is it live weather? I just love the low hanging mist.
It's just the live weather - luck on the day :)
Another aircraft I have my eye on now 😂Looks sporty and could have a lot of fun.
It's great :)
all I did was refresh the video of the J 160 , and all of a sudden im here ? , what on earth just happened 🙈
Anyways, another video to watch i guess 😅
Hahahaha
I just bought the RV-14 because I thought the visibility was great. This is better, I think.
It's like sitting in a bubble :)
This one seems has no parking break?

Does the Sting S4 have a parking brake?
Not sure - I haven't flown it for a little while :)
Sorry I didn’t know you were recording this when I spawn in. Is this a new plane? Not seen this one.
It's been out for a while - I'm working my way through the list of planes available for the sim, picking out ones I like the look of :)
I was helping with beta-testing the sim version of the plane. I own one in real life and it is just as awesome in terms of visibility as in the sim … here is an example ua-cam.com/video/W13e5BXuyAM/v-deo.html
That was some proper turbulence you had going on :)
Not on XBox sadly. FSReborn has gone extinct for me.
There could be all sorts of reasons why aircraft don't go onto the XBox.
