    • @JewelSchool

      It would be really hard to add beads to the wire itself, but you can wrap on beads at the end using a different wire. Here is a tutorial that shows you how:

    • @JewelSchool
      @JewelSchool  Рік тому +1

      You can use a no 65 soft solder paste in sterling silver. If the joint is small enough, you can file and buff it and the difference in color won't be noticeable. You can also oxidize it with liver of sulphur to colorize the whole piece. Hope this helps!

    Can you use solder for other metals, like silver toned wires? I’m pretty sure they’re brass and then coated with the silver non tarnished coating? Sterling silver always turns black on me…
    Thank you for sharing!! 💜

    • @jaderene
      @jaderene 3 роки тому +1

      No, you can’t because those types of wires are plated over base metals like: Copper, Brass, Bronze, etcetera, the only types of metals that can be soldered are these types: Silver, Argentinan Silver and Sterling Silver, you would use Silver soldering wire or paste and for Gold, Rose Gold, and White Gold, you would use a solder specifically made for Gold metals! I hope this helps and answers your questions!!!! Happy Soldering!

    I love all your soldering videos

    • @JewelSchool
      @JewelSchool  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Kimberly! We think it depends on your design. If you're adding beads, you may want to wrap those onto the finished crown and that would require a slightly more "bendable" wire. Anything 20ga and up (22, 24, 26). The crown needs to hold it shape in order to wear, so probably a harder wire like 16ga or 18ga wire. Cut some small sections of wire and test out the different gauges, making loops and bends to see which holds best. You can use a bracelet mandrel as a curved surface to help you hammer the wire to work harden it a little. Hope this helps!

    Looking for more in-depth instruction like this using gold FILLED wire. Can you help?

    • @catzkeet4860
      @catzkeet4860 3 роки тому

      Gold filled isn’t recommended for soldering because it has a core of copper which can mess up the joint. There are people who do it but personally I wouldn’t….stick to cold connections. Also to solder it so it doesn’t show you’d need gold solder…..which is very expensive.

    I'd love to make some of these!! Can you please tell me what the inside diameter of the bracelet is after it's been formed? Doesn't it loose some size due to the shaping, or does the wire stretch? Thank you.

    • @JewelSchool
      @JewelSchool  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Sally. The inside of the diameter, which Susan marks as a "medium" on her bracelet mandrel is just shy of 2-1/2 inches on the inside.

    Can you please help me, what do I use when soldering copper? Is there copper solder paste?

    • @JewelSchool
      @JewelSchool  2 роки тому

      You can use copper solder paste, but sterling silver solder paste will work too! As long as you file and buff the joint, Susan say's no one will be able to tell!

  • @anolani
    @anolani 3 роки тому

    Can you teach us how to use gold filled wire? What is dead soft/hard? What lasts to use?

    • @catzkeet4860
      @catzkeet4860 3 роки тому

      You use gold filled like you use any other wire, you’d prob just be a LOT more cautious to prevent waste. Gold filled isn’t recommended for soldering because the wire core is copper. Dead soft wire is just that….soft. It bends easily, and stays where it’s bent. Hard wire is harder, resistant to bending and springs back when you try to bend it. Half hard is midway between. Any dead soft wire will harden as you work it but it can be softened again by annealing. By last’s, do you mean mandrels? A mandrel is a shaping tool, but you can also get ring forming pliers, ring , bezel and bangle mandrels, forming stakes etc. It depends on what you want to do.
