I have received numerous requests to excise the “Philosophy” portion from the video “MIKE MENTZER: THE STORM AND THE LIGHT” and post it as a stand alone video, as Mike presents his beliefs in the most comprehensive way of all the videos thus far. So, here is Mike’s philosophy in his own words in addition to why he believes that certainty is what bodybuilders are truly seeking “beyond the muscles.”

"If you wish to lead the orchestra, you have to turn your back on the crowd. " It's a great perspective on leadership qualities. I couldn't agree more.

No other bodybuilder was as deep, with conviction. Mike was a one of a kind.

2:37 "...many intellectuals claim the title based on an anti-intellectual approach to the intellect..." I don't know when this was recorded but that is on full display more than ever.

Hi DoE. I'm glad you like them. The older I get, the more I appreciate his philosophical take on things (on par with his training views).

I think I need to read a bit of Ayn Rand myself; Mentzer was obviously greatly influenced by her, but so too was the late drummer Neil Peart, of Rush fame, his lyrics were often inspired by her writings. As a fan of both Rush and Mentzer, maybe I should take the hint!

I sure wish Mike was still around and his brother. Such a class act. But then I wish allot of my heros were still around.

Mike was right about that, its beneficial to grow not just big muscles, but intellectually, spiritually and emotionally as well. It seems as I get older this becomes more evident. So is that really Mike's dad driving the truck ?

Honestly so much more interesting than Arnold. Nothing against Arnold, but it is what it is.
He would have been such a great spokesperson for atheism, objectivism, and just reason and empathy in general.

I watch and listen to anything to do with Mike Mentzer
    What a human being
I heard an interview with a guy that said he lived with Mike for a while and he said Mike was gay. I cant remember his name but he was a young guy during his stay with Mike and said he paid Mike's bills
Now I have nothing against gay people but I dont believe he was
Nothing will change my opinion of Mike
I would've loved to have met him

Johnny can't think about what he wants to think...at least not openly. So Johnny, do what I did in grade school before I became a physics professor: Score high on the aptitude (i.e., IQ) tests so that the teachers leave you alone (largely out of their own fear). Then while they are doing their job (Teaching the Dummies) drift off into a world of thought...interrupted by the class bell. Good luck.
