_Parasite_ was the best movie at 2020 oscars. It was bound to win _Best Picture_ . Same for _Original Screenplay_ and _International Feature_ . Can't say the same about _Bong Joon-Ho_ wining the directing oscar tho, should have been either _Tarantino_ or _Mendes_ . _Park Chan-wook_ or _Chang Dong-Lee_ should have earned nominations or won oscars before him. They are hands down better directors than Bong.
Totally disagree. Bong deserved the Best Director award far more than any other director in the category. Also, whether Park and Chang are stronger directors is pure opinion, not fact. Especially in consideration that they are all quite different from one another so trying to rank 1 over the other doesn't work. Ultimately, they did help strengthen the image of South Korean cinema which led to this win.
Disagree. They should've won before him for movies that they made before this but not because they're better. None of them was or is able to sweep international prizes like Parasite did which brought it to win the Oscars too. But since we're at this Bong should've won for Memories of Murder and Mother as Best International Film, just like Park with Oldboy, Thirst and The Handmaiden and Chang for Burning but they weren't even entries in the relevant category, except for Burning. However none of them could've achieved what Bong did with both audience and critics alike almost universally awarding Parasite the highest praise and that's Bong's genius here as a director and screenwriter. East Asian directors have always been awarded in international film festivals except for the Oscars (which isn't all that important tbh but whatever) but Parasite was such an absolute success worldwide that the Academy couldn't ignore it anymore. The same cannot be said until now for the others. As for Tarantino and Mendes none of their directing was anything extraordinary.
Great video! I was immersed in it
