I've loved the Monkees since I was 11 years old, when the TV show premiered in 1966. It's difficult to pick a favorite Monkees song; the big hits mean a lot to me, but I also love less well known album cuts. I still have my albums I bought with allowance money when I was 12 or 13. My favorite band always.
I love your Mike Nesmith stocking cap. As I child I thoroughly enjoyed watching The Monkees on TV. Brings back some wonderful memories.
@@mleistner Thank you!
😃I Love the Monkees😀I watched a video of Mickey's current tour and it is very very good. Have a good evening--
Love your list! Keep making more Monkees content 😃
Somehow, I never heard Randy Scouse Git until 2 years ago. First time I heard it, I was cringing “what is this noise?!” Second time, I fell in love with verse melody. Third time, it was transformed into one of my top 5 Monkees songs! Well done, Micky.
Good choices! I love those guys. Musically, they had some of the top songwriters of the era along with the wrecking crew until their third album when they took more control. They continued to have great songwriters and Mike stands tall next to them as a songwriter. I got to see them several times, but never all four together.
You are a girl after my own heart! You like all the things that I like (maybe not all but alot). Anyway, love the Monkees! I have a really cool Monkees t-shirt. My first 45 was I'm a Believer/Stepping Stone with the picture sleeve. Also I loved it when A Little Bit Me would come on the radio especially in the car. My first wife, daughter and I saw them live without Mike though in the 80's at Valley Forge Music Fair. I like so many songs that I can't list them. Depends on my mood. I Wont Be the Same Without Her is my favorite song. And More of the Monkees is easily my favorite Monkees album. Well thanks again for this wonderful post! Keep up the good work my friend! R
@@rhlennon5869 Thank you, Russ. It’s great that we share loads in common! And that’s amazing, I wish I could have seen them live.
Nice tribute to Mike with the ski hat! The shirt looks like something Peter or Davy would wear. Also, your accent reminds me of Davy! I love the show and grew to love the movie Head. Favorite albums include Headquarters and Pisces Aquarius Capricorn And Jones Ltd. I love both versions of Valleri, the original in G minor and the hit in F minor. My favorite for me is The Girl I Knew Somewhere.
Great choices! It’s obvious you’re a true fan by including the more “underrated” songs like Mommy And Daddy, Daddy’s Song, All Of Your Toys and When Love Comes Knocking. The last one almost got in an episode and was even listed as a song on that episode.
Everybody’s list of favorites is different. Are there any “honorable mentions” on your list? If so, I’d love to know!
@@williamlangan5902 Thank you for your comment, it’s always great to hear from another Monkees fan! It’s a shame they didn’t use the song on an episode.
Some of the others I wanted on my list were Cuddly Toy, Forget That Girl, Star Collector, She Hangs Out, Valleri, D.W. Washburn. It was hard to make a list!
@@chlozycat6506 if I were to make a list of episodes, Monkees In Paris would be my #58 and Monkees Get Out More Dirt would be my #1!
@@williamlangan5902 Great choice for #1 I love that one! 😆 That’s a good idea, I might make a video listing my fav episodes of the series
I love The Monkees. I’ve seen Mickey and Davy together once, and Mickey and Mike together twice including Mike’s final tour before passing away. While my number one and two picks would be different than yours, many of your picks would be in my top ten. Plus, I’m always happy to hear someone discussing Monkees music so cheers!
Paul Revere and the Raiders did "Stepping Stone" first ....Neil Diamond wrote "Little Bit Me" and " I'm a Believer".....And, yes, Mike did write "Different Drum" for Ronstadt & The Stone Ponies...Very good list...My favorite Monkees Song is Nesmith's "Door into Summer" which sounds a lot like Buffalo Springfield..."Pleasant Valley Sunday" written by Goffin and the fabulous Carole King...A lot of others...They should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.....
@@TerryTutor-cv3hh I really like The Door into Summer and Pleasant Valley Sunday too. They sang some great songs
My top three Monkees songs are 3.Look Out (Here Comes Tomorrow) 2. Papa Jean's Blues. 1. For Pete's Sake.
My top songs are Circle Sky (1996), Writing Wrongs, Pleasant Valley Sunday, The Girl I Knew Somewhere, Porpoise Song, Daily Nightly, Words, Star Collector, Love Is Only Sleeping, Valleri, Can You Dig It?, Regional Girl, Looking For The Good Times, You and I (1969).
I forgot to mention one other thing. When I was a young lad my parents took my sister and I to see Oliver. It seems like it was around the same time as the Monkees appeared and I too confused Jack Wild with Davy Jones. I think I got it sorted out by the time that H.R. Puffnstuff came out but of course I can't be sure.
Chlozy, Mike Nesmith wrote 'Different Drum' and I believe that is the tune that first launched Linda Ronstadt into superstardom. Correct me if I am wrong. I enjoy your channel.🥰
@eddenoy321 your so right about different drum.
Technically it was her group the Stone Pony's because she wasn't solo yet but yes. That song put her on the map. Originally Mike had submitted it to the producers to be recorded by the Monkees but they said no. As revenge Mike sang a very short and funny version in the episode Too Many Girls in the talent show segment!
Sometime around 2009, I was driving to a gig I played at an Italian restaurant. I was listening to the just released Deluxe versions of the Monkees albums put out by Rhino. I was in a duo with Kim (guitar vocals). I looked over at the people waiting to be seated and there was Micky Dolenz! He was with a blonde lady, and I went up and shock his hand and said, "Thanks for all the great "energy" you gave in the 60's. The lady he was with said..."SEE??!! (not sure what they had been talking about). He smiled and said Thank You! I told him I had JUST been listening to the deluxe album releases (what a coincidence...right?) and he said..."They did a great job didn't they?" I asked him if we should play any Monkee songs and said..."NO, keep playing the Beatles!" lol Well anyway, someone else saw him in the restaurant and requested "I'm a Believer" so I had to do it. lol He was a really nice guy!
@@CaptainAlsClassroom What an amazing story, thanks for sharing!
Porpoise Song is the not only the best Monkees song, but the best song ever by anyone.
I realized from this how much I really do like The Monkees, I grew up on reruns of their show and later got into their albums. I was able to come up with a top 20 too.

@@ChromeDestiny Great choices!
My all time favorite is not on your list: As We Go Along, a Micky song from the Head soundtrack. Porpoise Song from that film is also great. I also love the Nesmith trio from the PAC&J album: Salesman, Love Is Only Sleeping and The Door Into Summer. Third, I'm partial to the fast version of I Wanna Be Free from the Monkees pilot episode. Finally, honorable mention to some of the songs they recorded during their various reunions over the years; That Was Then, This Is Now (1986), Heart And Soul (1987), You & I (1997) and She Makes Me Laugh (2015).
Jimmy not jimin, yes great monkee songs.day dream believer my fav,she hangs out.thats how it did well because of davy jones accent in america.a little bit me,a little bit you.like some beautiful from jack wild.
