    Interesting choice having "Love Me Do" as your top pick. I have been listening to these songs for over 60 years now and my personal favorites have changed over the decades. Tops for me now is without a doubt, "Please Please Me". The energy on this track is just amazing. It's no wonder George Martin told the Beatles "congratulations, you have just recorded your first number 1". Takes me right back to Beatlemania '64 every time. I love the 2023 mix on The Beatles 1962-1966. Paul's bass is enhanced and cookin'.

    Nice! Ringo did play on his first Beatles EMI session, which yielded the single version of Love Me Do. It was a laborious process and they didn't have time to do the B-side. Ron Richards then booked Andy White so they could do PS I Love You quickly on their next visit which was a short session only. It went so smoothly they had time to re-do Love Me Do and a first recording of the "fast" Please Please Me - once George Martin heard that recording, he became interested in the Beatles for real and took over as producer.

    I think all the labels that turned the band down would have quickly regretted it after hearing this album. Although they weren't writing enough stuff to fill an album with their own songs yet, they showed how good they were with 'I Saw Her Standing There' and they made their cover of 'Twist and Shout' their own.

    Good video I agree with your ranking the songs tough to do they were all good and John on Twist and Shout he wanted to do another take so bad the others said NO!!! he was bleeding into his throat another try might have ruined his voice forever

    Do you like the work of the pop artist Pauline Boty (1938-1966)? I think The Beatles knew her quite well in the 60s.
    Love the channel.❤

    This album is built around oft-played favorites - and that would continue into their second album but then they started delivering new, never-performed music over and over. Somewhere in these first 3-4 albums, George Martin had to realize he's got a valuable property, and he spent more time 'teaching' the recording process, teaching different instruments and sounds. To me, these "first generation albums" aren't just good, they're sooo important to the entire recording industry. "Hey, if the Beatles can do it, we can, too..."

      @@chlozycat6506 That's cool I will tell you that I have all the Beatles but Stuart Sutcliffe. I had some friends with connections and Paul was my first one in 1984 in 1985 I bought a Butcher Cover at Beatle fest in Chicago. A year later a friend called me said there was a guy in NYC that had a Butcher signed by John I said I would trade the one I have and some cash at first he said no but later took the offer (I outbid the suits at Capital) I met Paul' brother Mike at another Beatlefest and had him sign the one Paul signed I asked if the Paul scribble was his he laughed said yes my brother in alive and well (he said later its a great way to sell 800 million records people all looking for the clues its was all junk) Pete Best was giving a talk about his Beatles days in Wisconsin where my friend was going to school and a Beatle band 1964 played there he never did tell anyone why he was fired (he was a loner not that great a drummer and the others didn't really like him) George and Ringo I got at another Beatle fest and Billy Preston was there so I had him sign the George album I won and the GET BACK bootleg he was happy with that. Billy J Krammer was there too and I had him sign Paul's album Speed of Sound so if I added it right there are 8 no 9 autographs wish I could show them to you my social media has been cut here UA-cam is my main source for contact. Love Me Do with b side PS I Love You was a stand alone recording released as a 45 before this LP was made. Both Pete Best first followed by Ringo had a go on drums with professional session drummer Andy White ‘s version chosen for the release. The record barely charted which is not surprising given BBC radio and television programming provided very little pop music . If you cannot hear it how can you buy it. Later rumour was the only reason it charted at all was due to Brian Epstein’ s music shop NEMS purchasing enough copies from EMI to chart. Perhaps so perhaps not but what is certain very few teenagers would have even heard the record in the first place and certainly unless you lived on Merseyside you would have never heard of the Beatles. For most of us kids in Britain once we did hear about them at first we thought what a weird name for a pop group , Beetles.

      Just to clarify. The original Parlaphone "Love Me Do" single release in October '62 was Ringo on drums. The version on the Please Please Me album is Andy White on drums with Ringo on tambourine.🙂

    • @johnpeglau713
      @johnpeglau713 2 місяці тому

      @ Knew Andy White was in the mix somewhere with Abbey Road not satisfied with either Best or Ringo but at the time us kids & the media had not a clue. Epstein did a bang up job protecting his asset no question. You only got to hear what Brian wanted you to know . Only Liverpool folks knew of a Pete Best the Beatles drummer; for the rest of us we knew only of Ringo. To add it was the LP that put these guys on the map in Britain. Generally us kids only bought 45’s & then sparingly.
      , rarely an LP. Literally overnight everyone wanted this one so much so EMI had to subcontract to a competitor in Pye to produce inventory from EMI master tapes.

    Nice presentation and analysis, but you overrate this album. While it was an important and influential album, the only good songs on it are "I Saw Her Standing There," "Please Please Me" and "Twist and Shout," although I will give an honorable mention to "Boys." The rest is completely disposable. Indeed, this is the worst Beatles album, and only necessary to have for real Beatle fans. I'd love to see your take on the group's second album, "With the Beatles," which is an improvement in every possible way.
