TROUT TOWNS EP. 4 - Hancock, NY
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 вер 2024
- Nestled on the outskirts of Catskills Park in south eastern New York State, Hancock is a charming mountain town where the West and East Branch Delaware Rivers meet to form the Main Stem Delaware. Fishing in the eastern United States doesn’t get any better than this. These two large rivers (both tailwater wild trout fisheries) should be on your bucket list with exceptionally sized Browns and Rainbows. As far as history, Hancock has been a mountain retreat since the mid-19th century with hotels and accommodations provided to visitors, not to mention its connections to Major League Baseball as well as the lumbering and stone quarrying industries. Although not as impressive architecturally as some larger Trout Towns we will visit, Hancock does have some notable commercial, religious, and public architecture to briefly explore. Please join me today for our 4th episode of Trout Towns, in Hancock New York.

West branch is the bomb and your history lessons are cool. I like the concept. Keep up the good work!
Appreciate it and will do, thanks!
Upstate NY is beautiful, the people as well.
Keep up the good work!!! I just turned on a fly fisherman I know to you who only has years until he retires and has set a goal of catching a fish in each of all fifty states. 😇
Man you're commentary is hilarious
Handcock is such a hidden gem. Im from NYC and we have family up there that we visit all the time. Its the greatest get away and affordable if you're from NY
Agreed. Not too tourist-y aside from fishermen. Really enjoy my time in that part of the Catskills.
I love this vedeo, I fished there for 20 years before I moved from NJ to Ma 3 years ago, I miss those rivers. Are you a comedian ? I just couldn't stop laughing while watching you catching beautiful trout. Great video ! Keep up the awesome content and your sense of humor !! 🤣😂👍🏻
Thank you sir! Not a comedian, but I try my best to entertain.
lots of fisherman and activity on those branches. Tough to get a nice stretch alone unless maybe a weekday or bad weather day.
Agreed, very popular most days of the week. Public access is plentiful but still difficult to find water to yourself.
beautiful country
It really is!
Awesome adventure!
Great fishing video, gotta love history and adventure!
Appreciate it my bro!!
Hey my little county getting some love that’s awesome!
Yes they are!
I like your new format, it’s interesting. Maybe you should do your Trout fishing video’s separate from Trout towns. Both would be excellent but separate.
Fun stuff, I was just there over the 4th ... though I didn't make it down to the river.
Those fish never give up..
Very good drone and ground footage! Fish On!!! ❤😅
Thanks! Appreciate the Jeremy Wade reference..
Sick brown that was huge
Heck yeah brother!
Nice!!
Great episode! I’m going on a motorcycle ride up there later this week.👍🏻
Beautiful area, have a great ride!
We ride up to Roscoe and Hancock all the time from north west Jersey.
That’s a great day trip.
Sometime we’ll stay for a night most of the time we ride back same day.
It’s about 300 mile round trip.
About 400 miles if you include the riding we do up there once we get up there.
Let’s get’m outa here
Nice Work!
Thank you sir!
hey buddy great video. the west branch of the delaware is a true challenge for anyone and you did very well my friend. congrats on that. the introduction to the fishery you did was impressive to. thanks for taking the time to take people along on a great ride through this video. i would like to try and meet you one day for an outing somewhere with the flyrods, not sure where are from but i am in southeastern pa., near allentown. let me know if you would be interested.
I’m south central PA (Cumberland County)
Why is the west branch considered a challenge?
You were right next to Islamberg, look it up!
I’m from Pa and quit fishing there years ago because of the crowds ! We have plenty of Class A trout streams without the crowds!
Agreed. East and West Branch Delaware are great, but solitude on some smaller lesser known PA Class A streams much better in my opinion.
All the urbanites from Conn. NY and NJ think there is no place else to fish.
GET EM OUTTA HERE!
Right outta here
Have you gone strictly trout town? I do enjoy the series. As a fellow Harrisburg area trout angler, I do enjoy your random vlogs fishing our local waterways and the north central PA fisheries.
yes, strictly trout towns .. up in Wellsboro right now actually
19:20 😂😂
you really keep your rod low when fighting those fish
Does the salmon run up here
Nvm thanks
Does that section of the river border Pennsylvania? Will a Pennsylvania license be sufficient or do you need New York license?
The bridge where he caught that big brown is the border of NY and PA. You can use a PA license on the main stem, and the portion of the west branch where the river has NY on one side and PA the other. The PA shore on the west branch runs from just downstream of Hale Eddy (the first section that was fished) down to the confluence of the east and west branch. The east branch is all in NY. I own a house just over the hill from where that big brown was caught.
This theoretically can fuel an almost unlimited supply of content for you to shoot for your loyal viewers. 😇
That's the goal. There are hundreds of historically/architecturally significant towns across America which also have world class trout fishing. Thanks!
So much great water to fish in the Catskills. Check out W Branch Farmington R in CT.
Will do man, thanks! Also want to hit Beaver and Willow.
I didn't know there were the best trout places here I fish here for small mouth
I got a nice smallmouth from my backyard on the east branch in Hancock last year on opening day of trout season. I've seen some large walleye caught in junction pool (where the east and west branch meet) and know that striped bass make there way up that far as well.
You should fish Roscoe New York which is close by that is considered trout town USA
It's definitely on my list. I've been to Roscoe one prior occasion and loved the Beaverkill and Willoemoc!
The fish are bigger on the west and east branch. I own a house in Hancock and am there frequently. The amount of pressure varies considerably depending on conditions. On a late May to lake June weekend, if the water levels and temps are good, it'll get very crowded. Otherwise, it's not all that bad.
it seems to me that i read somewhere that 50% of all trout caught and released die from the stress they undergo. anyone know if it's true?
I own property on the Beaver Kill in Roscoe right across from the old Silver Fox (Riverside Cafe)
Been fishing this area of NY for 40 years
From Roscoe up to Hancock
Your lucky, that area is really amazing.

Thanks.
I wouldn’t really call it luck.
I’d rather call it as it is.
My hard work paid off.
What weight rod do you use?
On a river this size, probably 9ft. 5wt. but you could go a bit bigger.
@@TravelingTroutCo I mostly fish a 5wt there but when the water is high and I want to throw streams I'll use my 6wt. I've also floated the lower section of the east branch with my 4wt and caught some nice rainbows.
Is that your real voice or an affectation? Sounds like you are trying to sound like someone from another era.
I definitely put on a bit of a showman voice for the narrated sections (history/architecture). If your familiar with South Park, it's basically my version of the "Rod Schneider is ... A CARROT" voice ....... that said my real voice is reflected during the actual fishing parts of the videos - glad someone picked up on that lol
watch out for ticks…
