    Santa Fe native here. Thank you for this great video, loved the accurate history lesson in the beginning. The only thing I would add is that the politicos at the time refused the railroad into Santa Fe, which was the result of the population dwindling to less than 5,000 people. Realizing their mistake, they reached out to the other railroad company who agreed to lay the railroad into Santa Fe and created the depot. However, it was in/out and not pass through.

    Awesome video man, I just stumbled on your channel today and I love the concept. Will definitely binge watch some more. Also love your “let’s get him out of here!” It reminds me of a baseball call or something like that haha.

    Thanks for mentioning the importance of wetting your hands before handling fish.

    As a southern CO resident thanks for heading out west. Highly recommend hitting the Arkansas River from as far west as Leadville,CO to as far east as Pueblo/Pueblo West, CO.

      Can't wait to get back to Northern New Mexico or Southern Colorado. Both beautiful places and lots of trout fishing locations. I have my eye on Ouray, Silverton, and Durango as a few Southern CO Trout Towns episodes sometime in the next few years. Thanks for watching!

      Sweet !!! Where I live we have the best winter fishery tailwater on the Arkansas. Most areas freeze up in the winter but we stay flowing. It will be chilly, and snowy, but waters moving. @@TravelingTroutCo

    Yo I live near Santa Fe, where did you park and how many miles did you walk up pecos? I’ve only ever caught rainbows up there 😢

  • @santoslagunaacademydallasf9395

    Great video! What is the name of that beautiful rock box canyon?

      I believe I worked upstream through the 'Jemez East River Slot Canyon' just outside of Valles Caldera (off Route 4).

    That wasn’t a stocked rainbow they only stock up to the bridge at Cowles anything above that is wild!

    Hey man, great video. Do you know the the name of the trail you were on that was leading to the Pecos where you were fishing? We fished Taos in Santa Fe two years ago and almost got skunked. I caught one the day we got there and my brother caught one the last day we were there. Trying to find a couple new spots. We will be there in September.

      I parked at the Cave Creek trailhead (above Cowles). There's a horse trail that takes you over Pancheula Creek and Jacks Creek and eventually down to Pecos above the last of the private property. Good luck man!

    Thanks for specifying that you took French. Kept me from getting mad about the pronunciation of places. To be fair, even some of the Spanish named towns have their own unique pronunciation. Great incorporation of history.

    Nice video! They do stock Rainbow Trout but are working on getting the native cutthroat population restored. Obviously browns and rainbow trout aren’t the native species. If you are ever back in NM you might look into doing the trout challenge.

      I was really hoping to catch a Cuthroat, maybe next time. And I'll look into the trout challenge too, thanks!

    If you go far up enough the wild Pecos you will encounter wild rainbows.

  • @Hookandhardware
    @Hookandhardware 7 місяців тому

    FYI all the rainbows are stockers. Private property owners stock their own runs with healthier/prettier fish than the state does. You caught a small “got-away”.

    what month of the yr?

    • @TravelingTroutCo
      @TravelingTroutCo  10 місяців тому

      August. Funny story. On the way out, we were hit with a crazy snow/hail storm for an hour at high elevation leaving the Caldera. In August. In New Mexico. Anyways, really unique place super surreal.
