The videos I make are topics suggested by you the viewer. Feel free to suggest any mental health or psychology subjects you'd like me to cover in future videos. Just a reminder though, these videos are not a substitute for support from a mental health professional.
It can be crushing living like this, I grew up feeling like a failure because of other people holding me to account for things they said I should know how to do. They never acknowledged my successes but savaged me for my (or their) failures. I became OCD trying to please everyone else and fearing criticism. Took a long time for me to realise it was more about their frustrations and failings than me
you hit the nail on the head! could you please make a video with actionable steps to overcome this? im 21 now and ive been struggling with the problem of analysis paralysis for many years. i always thought that i would grow out of it within a few years but it still cripples me. thanks.
Thanks for sharing, I agree, it's all about the process. How we react, action is always good, and the part of adjusting is the fun part, even it doesn't look like it at the time.
In my family any bad decision that resulted in costing money or effort that we couldn't afford caused major anger and my special nickname "stupid" was used liberally. Major poverty and hardships makes you scared.
I definitely have this I can’t play any Fire Emblem games (a game series where you are building an army to defeat the villain) because making a mistake, or just being unlucky, can cause the life of a soldier and you will never see them again.
Darren Thank you so much for taking the time to share your knowledge with the world. You make a wonderful contribution to these testing times. God bless you and your dog 🤟
I grew up being a perfectionist, where as much as possible, any kind of failure became unacceptable for me. However, I had a very traumatic experience when I was in high school. It was a situation where I failed to do something important (academic work) that I was supposed to do. It was so devastating and extremely shameful for me because almost everyone, including my teachers, classmates, and even my family, was disappointed due to my failure because I failed to meet their expectations. Today, I am in college now, but my fear of failing did not go away. It is as if growing day by day as I get older. I can't seem to focus in my academics anymore because I fear being rejected/neglected, being told wrong, or being viewed as someone incompetent. No matter what I do my atychiphobia wont go away. I am so constantly anxious and depressed. I need help.
Hi Marshall, so sorry to hear about your experience. I totally get you too. I just quit a good job because I couldn’t handle it and am very mentally distressed. Get help as early as possible. To be honest, I don’t know what to do as I have tried therapy for a while not and it is not helping:
@@DarrenFMagee I'm sorry, but that's your advice? ... . People come here because you ARE the expert, and they listen to you. Just saying they should go and find (other) experts (which cost money), is well, not very helpful. Don't get me wrong, your videos are very good, but the 'interaction' after that I feel lacks, and I see a lot of people on here, with genuine questions and remarks, hungry for answers, just getting a 'thank for your feedback' answer. To me it feels, like, finally a door that gets unlocked for a lot of people, and then there's no one inside..
That's a good, yet difficult question to answer briefly. There can be different factors involved, sometimes even a combination of factors for example low self esteem, low self confidence, being in a judgmental environment and so on. Is this something you'd like me to cover in a future video?
The problem with this is, that 'others' at least EXPECT you to TRY to be 'perfect' (the whole 'do your best' thing) . The expression 'it's okay to make mistakes', for example, simply implies that, well, you're not allowed to make mistakes ALL the time (or even half of the time).. Unfortunately if everyone would constantly make mistakes, society wouldn't function, and that terrifies me: in the end you HAVE to do SOME stuff right..
My uneducated parents have this and they injected into my life and it ruined everything mental and physical health to grow as an individual being 23 right now i feel way way behind in life infront of this world i don't know if I will be able to live further ahead post 2023 or 2024 😞😞😞😞😞😞

Glad you found it helpful
Excellent insights, so relatable. Thank you.
Yes to all of the above, I just didn't know there was a name for it
Thank you and you're welcome
Me neither
I struggle with this and often avoid any situation where I might fail or make a mistake. It's hard but I'm trying to get over it.
I am addressing this in therapy right now

Very well presented and informative thank you for sharing
So nice of you
Thank you
That was helpful, but what about the opposite? The fear of succeeding?
I’ll cover that in a future video
Spot on!
I definitely have this

A lot of colleges offer counselling support that might be able to help you

What is the real cause of atichyphobia?

Great counseling
What are the symptoms? If a person after doing something is constantly thinking that he made a mistake, is also fear of making mistakes?

The transcript, oh my… Hello, I’m …
You spoke about narcissism and the need to be right vs. fear of being wrong. Do you have a video about that topic somewhere?
I have a video on what narcissists really believe if that helps?
