  • This video provides tips on mounting, installing and connecting a WISKA COMBI 108 box. Strain relief without stuffing glands and connecting up some extra low voltage lighting in series.
    Note. I do not provide installation services. I attended site for the very purpose of creating these videos.

    Have you got the plans for printing off the spike ?

    Great video! Probably a stupid question but why is black the positive coming into the first light?

      Thanks, not a stupid question at all. With the 4 core cable I was using two pairs to do different lights on this side of the garden. Brown and grey were used on some of the other lights, and I had choosen black and green and yellow for the lights in this particular portion of the video. So in my case, I had chosen to use the black on the 4 core as + and the green and yellow as the -. It's completely installers choice and there is no set rules for extra-low voltage.

    Great vids, this is probably a stupid question but the ELV will need a transformer? Is that right? So your swa to convert to elv lighting will need to feed into a transformer from 230V? What transformer do you use if I’ve got this right and the question makes sense

      Thank you. Not a stupid question at all, ELV is typically available in 3 methods.
      1) batteries up to 100VDC
      2) Transformers up to 50VAC
      3) LED drivers up to 100VDC.
      Transformers generally convert a primary voltage e.g. 230V to say 12V. Transformers aren't typically capped on their voltage output so for example, if you have an incoming voltage of 250V then a 12V transformer may actually output 13V.
      Typically transformers do not convert voltage types, E.g. AC to DC.
      An LED driver normally has a transformer built into it and will convert AC to DC and either fix the voltage or current exactly as designed. Drivers can have a wide input voltage, some go from 90V to 280V input and will still output a fixed voltage of 12VDC regardless.
      Typically most LEDs will need a driver rather than transformer but that will depend on the manufacturer.

    Can you terminate SWA in these? Or do you need a 308 or similar? I'm trying to terminate SWA into a WISKA behind cladding so only have about 50mm. I've tried an 108 as this has the membrane and M20, but there's no rear cable membranes to push the SWA thru to a CU.

      No, I believe you would need a 308 box. The 108 has 16mm inlets from memory

    Hello, I want to install some bollard lights on my driveway using mains power. Which wiska box should I use? I want to use the smallest box possible.

    • @HudsonLighting
      @HudsonLighting  3 роки тому

      Some bollards have decent room inside. WISKA make a 206 box which I have seen fitting in the underside of some bollards. It would be best to check first but that's your best bet

      @@HudsonLighting, thats a great shout I hadn't thought of that. Will the 206 box take SWA?

      @@philroberts1794 from memory for the box I received from WISKA I think it has 20m threaded inlets. Not sure if the SWA earth bar fits though

    How do you remove the top of the junction box? ie do you twist or prise the lid off?

    • @HudsonLighting
      @HudsonLighting  4 роки тому

      On a 108 you should be able to squeeze the sides to get it off. You can use a small flat had to gently prize the lid too

      @@HudsonLighting if you can take the lid off without a tool, does that make it unsuitable for mains voltage use?
