The HUGE variety for a lunch buffet was impressive. Of course my favorites were the Asian dishes, but the British offerings looked very interesting too. I hope Joann found a dessert to her liking! Thanks for your hard work putting this video together. I know it’s time consuming and I appreciate your efforts!
Yes they had a very good selection especially before 1:30 PM. We're with you on those rotating Asian stations- I think those were overall the most popular ones. Joann did like a few of the desserts from there though might not have had the chance to do a review- I'll know more as I work on part 2. Thank you very much for the comment Sally! 😊
Just returned from a Regal Princess cruise and loved it. The food is good and something for everyone. The staff are friendly and helpful. We preplanned our meals at the buffet so we would not overdo.
I kind of hope that you’re still checking through your videos to see comments. September 23, 2024. I’ve just finished watching your dinner video now I’ve watched this video. My daughter and I are going on a princess cruise to Antarctic in December so happy she found these videos on what the buffet actually looks like. I would be hard-pressed to say that that buffet didn’t have anything I liked. I am amazed at how much food and food choices there are. I’m watching this video and my mouth is absolutely watering. I like Asian food. I like American food. I like British food. I like Indian food. There is absolutely no way. I am going to be hungry on this trip. Thank you so much for giving such detailed videos of what there is available at the buffet. Now I will go on and continue watching the rest of your videos.
Thank you very much- glad you're enjoying the videos! 😊 Yeah Princess had many choices- just about something for every taste. Their main dining room is especially good. Antarctic cruise sounds amazing- you guys have a wonderful time!
Decent music choices. Soft and pleasant in the background. Also not the same run of the mill that some UA-camrs use OVER and OVER again. Good to be different.
Thank you for such a clear video. A lot of other Princess buffet videos just have the camera waving quickly over the food-impossible to see what it is or read the displayed label. Your extra effort is MUCH appreciated😊🌸!!!
Wow. I'm impressed they had ramen! Kinda taken aback that the specialty cakes are an upcharge... at a buffet? REALLY? The Saltimbocca looks extremely tempting. Love it! Also, I see a great selection of desserts here. That's always great to see. The Mediterranean Seafood Salad @14:50 would hit the spot most excellently. I remember that from my last Princess cruise. Steak & Guinness Pie @17:59 would be divine. I know I would enjoy that. Seafood Pasties? *Sign me UP.* Wow, all those British faves on the buffet. I'm impressed! Oh, and the grilled calamari @19:47 makes my mouth *water.* I would have to have some melted butter to go along with that! I can't get over some of the desserts you showed at the end. Princess seem to put emphasis on creativity and flavor, which speaks to me. What's important to me in a buffet (as you know) is a food tour that is huge in flavor, and as diverse as the passengers onboard. Of all the cruise lines I've been on to date, Princess seems to get it right 100% of the time. Food helps create a festive atmosphere. Touching back on our Bolognese conversation, it was Joann's review of the Bolognese served in the MDR (can't remember the cruise line) that made me totally jealous. As I type this, I've got a big bowl of home-made Bolognese I made from one of the many recipes I found online. I've had Bolognese before, and don't remember it tasting salty, as Joann said. So I had to make some for myself, and you know what? It does have a very salty taste to it! I hardly put any salt in it at all. So as it turns out, Joann is not alone in her appraisal of the Bolognese she had on a couple of different cruises you've done. Only difference is, I actually love it. But then I'm more of a salty kind of guy... Total Bolognese weirdo 😂. One thing I noticed about Princess's buffet is that there seems to be a good presence of seafood options. Would I like to see more? Sure. I would love to see them offer crab legs at some point. I remember on the Discovery, the buffet was so exceptional I couldn't keep from stuffing myself. If you didn't want to spend the extra money on specialty dining, you certainly couldn't go wrong with Horizon Court. With a buffet like this, you really don't need much else, in my opinion. Thanks you guys! Looking forward to part 2! 🤗
Thank you very much Scott! 😊 Yeah it was really nice that Princess provided that wide variety of options and flavors. We were happy to see the jumbo shrimps in the Mediterranean Seafood Salad. And yes the grilled calamari was very popular- many guests were asking when it'll be replenished. That's great you did your homemade Bolognese! With all that research you did, I'm pretty sure it tasted better than the one we had! Princess didn't have crab legs but they had an impressive-looking seafood spread on the last buffet- stay tuned! Thanks again for sharing your thoughts!
From my experiences in Vegas, pretty cakes in dessert buffets tend to be on the dry side because they’ve been sitting. Most of the “scoopable” options might be tasty but won’t have a ton of eye-appeal. So I try to not judge buffet foods (good or bad) based on how they look. I’d want to sample foods from other countries. It might be good for buffets to utilize cafeteria style trays with compartments since a lot of people will have little portions of at least half a dozen different things. 😂
Thanks for the review. The food looked good. Thanks for tasting those delicious looking cakes lol I could tell by your face the taste was not there lol. Nice video. Take care.
Our pleasure- thanks for the comment Karen! 😊 Yeah some of those cakes were good, though a few looked good but weren't as good as expected. I think Princess makes them not that sweet, which I'm sure it's appreciated by many cruisers.
Your presentation of the various dishes and items are always point on! Clear, crisp photography of each dish, with precise information in what each item is. Excellent 👍👍👍 Thank you so much for these vlogs 😊 Also your honesty and unbiased opinion if something isn't up to standard or perhaps "a little off" is very refreshing... ❤
Another superb preview of Princess buffet options. I’m a soup, salad, sandwich & fresh fruit person for lunch. Glad to see there are lots of those options. I don’t eat a lot, so what I do have needs to be fresh, tasty, nutrient dense and satisfying. My special lunch time treats will be hot dogs & hamburgers from the pool deck grill - because why not?!?
Thank you very much! 😊 Yeah that's one aspect we enjoyed with this buffet is the abundance of crafted salads and plenty of fruit. Provides then some leeway for the less healthy eats 🙂
@@TravelTouristVideos I think of food as “Nutrient Dense” or not nutrient dense, rather than healthy/not healthy. There are so many conflicting opinions on that.
That's an interesting perspective- what are some examples of nutrient dense foods on cruise? I suppose something like grilled salmon on Caesar salad or minestrone soup?
Thank you very much- we really appreciate that! 😊 You're right- editing does take quite a bit of time and effort, but we're happy that the videos are helpful! This one was taking so long that I was like- okay that's enough, gotta split it into 2 parts lol

Another great video. I really liked the buffet on the Regal Princess (March 2023) as it has a greater selection of food and more international selections. I think that there were three things that really stuck out - the Pub Lunch, the seafood lunch, and the cake walk. I had the opportunity to tour a couple of the kitchens and they were absolutely some of the cleanest that I have seen. How difficult was it to find a seat during lunch?? We will be on the Regal Princess in March 2025 and the Discovery in October.
Thanks JL! 😊 Yeah we quite enjoy the food as well, esp. their MDR dinners, and an excellent selection at the buffet as well. Not difficult at all to get a seat, even for embarkation lunch. They had a complimentary galley tour for the last day of the cruise which was very popular. We didn't realize until we saw this long line on deck 3.
@@TravelTouristVideos That is a great ship and generally has some incredible deals, especially on the Galveston - Southampton Transatlantics. The way things are going, I see most of our future cruises on Princess and HAL.
Excellent video! Thank you so much for sharing! I love Regal Princess. We sailed her January, 2020, just before the world went to hell. Though I’m not much of a cake eater, I’m absolutely mortified the money-grubbing scum charge for them now, as delicious as they look. What do they cost? David, you’re really amping up your narration game. Keep up the great work. And the jazz music bed is incredible. Looking forward to Part Two!
Yeah we were a little surprised by those extra-charge cakes, but I guess they're for celebratory purposes. Didn't notice anyone ordering, but I think they were $20. But yes in part two you'll see some really fancy cakes for the final buffet extravaganza they had. Thanks Brad for the compliments on the narration and music! 😊
The buffet on the Regal was very good when I was on it. The only Princess ship with a bad buffet was the Majestic. Discovery and Enchanted also had good buffets. Caribbean Princess buffet was fantastic! A lot of folks do not realize there is a fully staffed kitchen for the buffet and you can custom order food, not on display. The chefs will cook it up right then and there for you.
Thanks for sharing your experience on your Princess cruises! We were on the Majestic too a few years back and thought it was very good, but perhaps it has gone down in quality.
Another amazing and detailed review. Overall, the quality looked pretty good. Lots of fresh veggies and salad fixings. The Indian section had at least one interesting hot, plant based offering. Is it me because I'm from Los Angeles, or was the Mexican food as terrible as it looked? How would you rate the food quality on Holland America to Princess? We're sailing on both this year. This will be our first Princess Cruise. We were very happy with the food on the Koningsdam buffet. Thanks again for your precious time!
I've done k-dam, rotterdam and one pretty recent Princess. IMO, overall the food is very similar, Princess *might* actually even have a bit more day-to-day variety (but we were very pleased on Hal too). With the exception of Blue Iguana on Carnival, which is truly like freshly-made taqueria food, the Mexican on these buffets will never be quite as good as an authentic Mexican restaurant. The sliced fajita type meats are fine, the steamed tortillas are fine, so you can make a perfectly adequate Mexican meal--but you'll probably see several other things that you don't eat as often and that you'll likely choose over the Mexican station. That's what we find--we'll see random other things that 'excite' us a bit more than the Mexican station. On both Hal and Princess, we do dinner in the Lido a lot b/c both have lots of really good choices and variety.
Thank you very much! 😊 Yeah other the guacamole and salsa, the Mexican station wasn't very memorable. Carnival & Royal have better casual Mexican eateries. As for Princess vs HAL- we prefer HAL for the buffet because of better taste & quality. Though Princess does have more seafood. Cleanliness-wise at the buffet, HAL is better with the crew-served method. Princess, though, is always great at taking your drinks order and bringing it to you at the buffet. At the MDR dinner, it's more of a toss-up, especially since HAL doesn't have complimentary lobster night anymore. As for snacks, International Cafe on Princess is very good, and open 24/7. Unless you like sweets more, HAL does win in that department though with NY Pizza & for the ships that have it, the excellent Dive-In & Grand Dutch Cafe.
I was on the Regal Princess in Nov 2023 and the HAL Eurodam in January 2024. In the MDR, I thought the food was comparable. I thought that HAL served a higher quality of beef but that Princess served more fish and seafood. In the buffet, I thought that the variety of ethnic foods and the broad variety of foods on Princess was far beyond what HAL offered. I like to serve myself as it allows me to do a tasting of all of the dishes. I would say that the Dive Inn was better than Princess's hamburger grill. However, I preferred the Princess pizza. You really cannot go wrong on either line food wise.
They had some nice rotation of different Asian dishes (Chinese, Korean, Malaysian, Indonesian, etc), and those were probably our favorites. Their bread & butter pudding & brownies were pretty good, and available daily. Thanks for the comment! 🙂
Well pretty much all the food is included (buffet, main dining room, pool side pizza, International Cafe), other than those at specialty restaurants. Sounds like you got the a dining package that includes 2 visits to specialty restaurants?
All the food looked good. The gluten and sugar free item do not taste good to me. But I am very pleased that they made so many options for those people who have those dietary restrictions. Lots of choices
Yes that's great they had a good selection of those gluten-free and no-sugar-added/sugar-free desserts. The taste weren't there for some of them but there were good ones too. Thanks for the comment Susan! 😊
What is it that is taken away at 1:30? It looked as if most of the items unique to each day were integrated with the daily offerings -- for example, Indian dishes added to the Indian section, composed salads added to the salad station, rotating roasts in carving station, etc. And what is available during the snack section between lunch and dinner? Asking because i tend to eat both lunch and dinner late.
I believe the custom ramen/pasta stations, and for sure all those British eats from day 3 are in that section that's shut down. For snacks, they'll have the Mexican station open, plus sandwiches, salad bar, some desserts and fruits. Dinner is different, and is better overall IMO than lunch. We'll be doing a video on dinner as well, so stay tuned 🙂
When I eat at buffets, I always eat proteins and veggies only. I deliberately avoid any carbohydrates because they fill me up too quickly. Also, I almost never eat desserts, so the fact that Celebration cakes were extra didn't bother me.
I think the only item that disappoints me are the soups. I really love soups and the ones in the MDR look awful, but there’s also not a great selection of them in the buffet either.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! They did have 2 soups daily (sometimes even more) at the buffet. But yeah those cold soups at the MDR were kind of interesting lol.
23:41, "What will you be scooping under your plate?" I think you meant "onto your plate?" LOL I'd probably starve, if the buffet was my only choice. I wouldn't eat probably 97% of it. I think I am better off with going to Specialty dining or just give me a burger from the grill. LOL
I did say "on to" but maybe the auto-captioning got it wrong. Yeah this buffet wasn't the most impressive, though if you haven't check out part 2 and see what you think. MDR lunch is certainly better, though that is only available during sea days.
For sure it would. It's self-serve probably because of guest preference. Right after COVID most cruise lines were crew-served, but now among the major brands we've only encountered Holland America & Cunard still doing that (as they were before the pandemic).
@@jlawrence0181 Absolutely, though the most most popular items & the salad station are still crew-served. For buffet salads, due to getting sick before from contaminated foods on cruise ships, HAL's salad station and the one at Royal Caribbean's Park Cafe are the only ones we'd eat.
@@TravelTouristVideos I just don't do salads on cruise ships. There are too many points of infection when it comes to fresh produce ... And it is generally handled by the least experienced people in the kitchen. And I eat them too much at home.
Honestly, I would say 90-95% of the offerings are not things I'd be interested in. They're not "eye candies" for me. These are all low end, basic buffet offerings. Even their "Asian" foods don't look appealing. Chow mein is stir fried and should be dry. Here's it's so "soupy" with that "Asian sauce". It's a joke! For the Malaysian/Singaporean dish "Char Kway Teow", they threw Mexican Chorizo in there. They're just throwing dishes together! 🙄 👎🤮 I like more Vegas style Bacchanal type of buffets. I'd rather that they'd charge more and offer those instead. Large cocktail shrimps, lobster, prime rib, beef wellington, sushi, street tacos and so forth and so on.
Yeah their buffet was pretty good but not as high quality as it could've been. There were some good dishes but overall a bit too many soupy and saucy dishes. They did have more seafood like shrimp, mussels & calamari vs most other mainstream cruise lines, but there weren't a lot of items where we went back and got seconds. Thankfully their MDR food was very good, and the International Cafe was nice as well. Thanks for the comment! 🙂
I actually liked the variety of Indian Spanish Italian Filipino American among food varieties on Ruby Princess, but like I travelled with a lot of people from Asia who may not have been used to the food so I understand.
This is probably the worst looking buffet food out of any cruise that you have done recently. Everything looks old and as if it has been sitting out for a very long time. I imagine that they were not even hot anymore by the time people got to them. You can see many things already congealed.
Appreciate your keen observations! 👍I do agree with you for some of those dishes, and we did have some issues about the buffet which you'll hear about in part 2.
@@TravelTouristVideos I have worked in food for over 30 years. I can tell by looking how long something has been sitting out. Seems as if they need a new food supervisor for the buffet.

What a variety! Looks yummy!
They had some good eats! 😋
Great video! Thank you!
Glad you liked it- thanks for the comment! 😊
Thank you ! Always great video ❤
Thank you very much Susan! 🥰
Thanks for the buffet tour. Would be great to know which was your favorite cuisine and dessert.
They had some nice rotation of different Asian dishes (Chinese, Korean, Malaysian, Indonesian, etc), and those were probably our favorites. Their bread & butter pudding & brownies were pretty good, and available daily. Thanks for the comment! 🙂
Very nice review ❤❤
Thank you very much! 🥰💖
It all looks soooo good
Lot of good eats! 😋
Looks amazing, we are on it in 42 days. Do you know what the casual dining is with the plus package 2 meals each included. Thank you in advance
Well pretty much all the food is included (buffet, main dining room, pool side pizza, International Cafe), other than those at specialty restaurants. Sounds like you got the a dining package that includes 2 visits to specialty restaurants?
SALUDOS QUERIDOS AMIGOS DESDE VENEZUELA 🖐
¡Saludos desde Estados Unidos! ¡Gracias por el comentario! 🙂
Amazing
They had a great selection and many tasty dishes!
Last year I was on the one of the Princesses The food was ok
I have done many cruises and others offer good food
Food looks awesome
Do the staff get fed the leftovers?
They would eat very well 😊
I'm not sure if the crew gets the leftovers- they actually have their own cafeteria. Some crew like officers do get to eat at the buffet.
YUM
😋
When I eat at buffets, I always eat proteins and veggies only. I deliberately avoid any carbohydrates because they fill me up too quickly. Also, I almost never eat desserts, so the fact that Celebration cakes were extra didn't bother me.
Wow looks so different from Ruby Princess.
Hey, how much can a senior actually eat?
I think the only item that disappoints me are the soups. I really love soups and the ones in the MDR look awful, but there’s also not a great selection of them in the buffet either.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! They did have 2 soups daily (sometimes even more) at the buffet. But yeah those cold soups at the MDR were kind of interesting lol.
This looks delicious! Is this sailing from Galveston?
Yeah they had some good offerings 😋 It does sail from Galveston.
@@TravelTouristVideos thanks. I couldn’t remember when she arrived here. The food looks delicious!
No seafood at the buffet?
They did- you can see more seafood in part 2: ua-cam.com/video/3YZyJQkk0QI/v-deo.html
I'm concerned, although there many dishes that look pretty good idont see fried eggs or eggs Benny on the coral princess.
They should have fried eggs for breakfast, but yeah typically not for lunch
We skip the buffets and only eat in the dining rooms. The quality (and service) is more consistent and better.
and you do have to search endlessly for a table . They always seem to be full when you want to eat! Not worth the trouble for mediocre food.
We actually never needed to, even on embarkation day which was very busy.
Now Food Not really good like before been with princess Majestic few months ago
Food looks better then P & O, anyone confirm this?
I am surprised they don't serve guests,,it would cut down on noro virus
For sure it would. It's self-serve probably because of guest preference. Right after COVID most cruise lines were crew-served, but now among the major brands we've only encountered Holland America & Cunard still doing that (as they were before the pandemic).
@@TravelTouristVideos Nearly half od the food on HAL ships is self service - all the deli items, many of the cold foods, and the desserts.
Really find it hard to believe that someone would eat Ramen on a cruise ship.
First
Thanks! 🙂
what happens to jamaican food
Bunch of it looked extremely dry. 😢
@proudasiangirl Oh my goodness ! What a snob you seem . The food is great . It's Perfect. All the offerings are amazing. From a proud British girl .
I agree. I think the meat and veg selections look nice though.
I actually liked the variety of Indian Spanish Italian Filipino American among food varieties on Ruby Princess, but like I travelled with a lot of people from Asia who may not have been used to the food so I understand.
Champagne on a beer budget, comparing to the Bac is like....
Hi send me a book on this cruises to 161 Briarwood Dr apt 203 Jackson MS 39206 thank u princess cruises
I would have starved. Nothing looked appetising.
😂😂😂😅
Kinda dingy cruise buffet the dishes are all old and chipped the one dish looked like the finish was comming off lol and 1.00 store ramen
Really impressed by how bad quality the food is. Quite disgusting 😮
Not very unique nor eye appealing. Looks cheap and not what I’d want on a luxury cruise.
Princess is not a luxury cruise line
This is probably the worst looking buffet food out of any cruise that you have done recently. Everything looks old and as if it has been sitting out for a very long time. I imagine that they were not even hot anymore by the time people got to them. You can see many things already congealed.
Appreciate your keen observations! 👍I do agree with you for some of those dishes, and we did have some issues about the buffet which you'll hear about in part 2.
No non veg Indian Chinese no pizza no fish and chips stroganoff alakiev American chop suey nothing to eat😢
Can you do one on majestic princess going 31 March sydney to great barrier reef 11 days
At least we can have prawn cocktail love boat pasta in MDR
@@TravelTouristVideos I have worked in food for over 30 years. I can tell by looking how long something has been sitting out. Seems as if they need a new food supervisor for the buffet.
It looks like too much food.
I’m so disappointed. Not impressed with the food at all. Nothing looks like it was made from scratch. I hope it tastes better than it looks.
Eeeekkk! Food looks old, dishes are half empty and messy. Nothing looked appealing or appetizing. Sorry, just being honest.
how much it cost for buffets
Its complimentary
