I seriously regret not going back during arrivals and playing through this whole campaign before it was removed. I even remember saying “oh I won’t miss it” 😔
I wanted to go back and replay it but I’d already done all the replays on all three characters, it would have been nice if Bungie had let us replay it one last time before taking it.
@@lunar-1340 true. I played the Red War on all my characters on my main account and all but 1 character on my secondary account. So for that one character I unfortunately got stuck with having to play the new light campaign that had Shaw Han
i dont know why, but its so cool seeing Mithrax for the first time during the titan missions. when the ghost accidently freed him, it looked like he thanked the guardian and just wanted to move on. he was being smart and tying to avoid the player and even tricking them into helping him. then he helps the player later on. humble beginnings i guess. and now hes a trustworthy ally.
i mean hes noted as being extremely smart even when we first meet him here. the chase literally gos from "ow you bumped into a captain. just another Tuesday for you. take him out and keep going" to in just a few minutes "why is this hard. where the hell did that slippery bastard go? ow their he is! wait? he just waved at us. thats new?" really shows how he ends up becoming one of the strongest kells. he was able to play with one of the strongest gaurdians and get out both alive and unskathed by them. not meny do that. espeshaly this early into destiny
Thank you for putting all these up. I stopped playing after Forsaken but me and the wife are planning on getting Shadowkeep and Beyond Light and this will be a great recap of everything we missed. Thank you Destin!
You'll never realize you missed something till it's gone... D2's vanilla campaign may have a rough start but the experience and how it felt to me still lingers in my heart and mind, it still saddens me that not everyone new can experience this and veterans can't relive those moments again ever since the content vault, myself among them. All I can do is hope that one day when the light and dark saga ends, Bungie would bring back the original campaigns where they belong and we could finally relive the destiny 2 experience in all of its glory. Some of you may disagree, take my words how you see it, but I still believe that day will come. You just have to have hope..
Despite what future expansions/DLC's were like and I've been a big critic of the game, this campaign was seriously on point. Miss not being able to run back thru it. A+ experience.
Wow the ending of that mission saying “don’t ask for anything from someone stronger, they’ll offer it themselves” really hinted towards the darkness and the witness leading us to europa getting out darkness powers
Thank you for recording all of the details, and not just the cutscenes. I'm a new player and I had no idea the old content was removed till I went to buy the remainder dlc's.
I remember playing this and the moment at 14:50 sometimes plays in my head. It was so beautiful, and really the main reason I came back and watched this. I wish I could play it again..
Thankyou for archiving this. When I started playing I literally made it to the Farm and boom, Sunsetting. Never got to see how it ended, let alone Forsaken or Shadow Keep, just the morsels that can still be played.
my favorite campaign, when they decided to remove this from the game, it just crush my passion to play the game ,the music, the battle, everything is so epic to me ,I even call my friends to join the game just because how good this campaign is , sometime when I feel bored or sad ,I always play this campaign to seek some pure happiness, and it's all gone by a sudden and either my passion .i haven't play this game for a long time, and I think i won't come back, just keep my memory with the good old days
Yeah I quit after the vaulting was announced. I might pick it up again if they re-release the whole story, but I'm still so in love with the RW-CoO era that I cba to play again.
I recently just got back into destiny 2 and this playlist of old destiny 2 campaigns is exactly what I was looking for. Red War campaign is the only one I completed. I’ve missed every expansion and seasonal event since then and there’s some I can’t play anymore. Thank you 🙏
I still can't believe they got rid of the main campaign. That's just unheard of. I tell you, it makes replaying the game a lot less fun when it's impossible to redo all my favorite missions.
It looks good through rose tinted glasses, but it honestly wasn’t. Hell, shotguns, snipers, and fusion rifles used to be in the heavy slot in Y1 of D2 lmao
This .. I watched this with a lump in my throat. Possibly the greatest videogame campaign ever and now lies probably in some storage facility away for anyone to experience and enjoy. I hope they change their mind and find a way to bring it back but until then thank you for bringing this back. So many great memories.
Looking at this now, it's crazy how much thought and foreshadowing there was so many years ago & even in the present how each seasonal story will foreshadow lightfall and the final shape. Looking forward to coming back to this when the next expansions come out.
This is the best we have for introducing friends to Destiny 2 since they cut all this content in 2021. It's so insane that they removed the core of Destiny 2 and still call it Destiny 2.
exactly, if they wanted to remove almost the entire game as they did, WHY not just make it D3? Like it makes no sense to me, they want to keep making money off D2 by removing content people PAID FOR and replacing it with more expensive content that you have LESS of? Is it because no one was buying their new shiny DLC so they had to cut off the old content people liked? New players to D2 are screwed! D2 may as well not even exist anymore. What D2 is now is D3, its a different game entirely, we are not playing D2 anymore. D2 doesn't exist anymore.
@@Goremize Yeah this is not D2 anymore and it's basically robbery since we spent money for the experience that was advertised and they have now taken that content away after collecting our money.
@@WhoTnT They took it out for a reason 😂 and its bcuz of space , recoding issues all of that they cant maintain the Red War with all the leviathan raids plus old armor and weapons plus the planets and all the activities on the planets for example Escalation Protocol then the seasonal activities all of that would cause problems and stress also they updated their tech for beyond light so 🤷😂
@@jonpapi_2247 Weird. Warframe hasnt taken any of their content out with their newest expansion. Neither has WoW nor FFIV. Crazy how Destiny 2 is the only game company to fully remove content you paid for.
Thank god i get to play it a year ago before it was vaulted it was an amazing campaign i especially liked the part where we walk out of the last city and in the snowy mountain and the soundtrack of it
Red war campaign was soooooo goooood! It was just in the era of dual primaries, i would pay to have it back with the updated enemy spawn amounts, id love to see hoards during the tower defense part! I still get chills to this day rewatching Ghaul tell us, you are not brave....you've merely forgotten the fear of death.... "allow me to re-aquaint you." Such a good voice actor.
Not shown here. But in the trek a bit before the cut at 15:13 there was a branching left or right choice. The left was across a fallen tree over a huge gap. There was a risk of falling. And therefore death. And on the right a safer path through a small tunnel. That choice was always so cool to me because it's something you'd never think of with the light. But without the garentee of resurrection it changes how you might choose the path. Very very good level design
The game had its issues in the beginning till the go fast update went live but The red war was fantastic and I wish it was here for a legendary solo clear. New lights should have to go through this first.
@@sentinel1354 Bungie’s model for vaulting content was making it f2p for a year before vaulting it. Forsaken is still a paid dlc so we won’t be seeing it go until at least Lightfall. That being said, Bungie is under new management now so they might not vault it ever
I started the game during Curse of Osiris and dropped it a bit after Forsaken for personal reasons. I came back during Witch Queen without knowing any of it had been vaulted. I miss this campaign so much but especially the Leviathan. I have so many good memories with my old clan in that ship and man, I want to go back so badly :( I hope one day we'll get pre Shadowkeep content again
I’m here to say thank you for this. I started up Destiny 2 during defiance and started on season of the witch. I know I’m on the tail end of the story, but I’m glad people like this are preserving how the story is told. This is the biggest dive back into any game’s story I’ve done. I wish I didn’t wait until last year to start up D2. Life gets in the way sometimes and I’m just glad I can know how the story was, first hand
I just started playing when Witch Queen came out but was lucky enough to buy Forsaken, Shadowkeep and Beyond Light. Was unable to play Forsaken but am having a wild ride with SK and BL. I feel like I've missed so much but really grateful that these videos are available.
Man I remember playing this years ago. Never finished the campaign and wanted to replay it this year Only to find out it was removed. ??? It doesn't make any sense
The soundtrack at 14:00 is just perfect. I remember having chills years ago playing through this. Still have the same chills watching. I felt so helpless. So sad they took this out of the game. I wish I could go back and play it😔
So I got Destiny 2 a while back and started playing it only to realize that the main campaign is gone. I thought it was because I got it for free so I bought the legendary expansion. Turns out that Bungie decided to get rid of the MAIN FUCKIN CAMPAIGN. That pissed me off so much cause the whole reason why I got it was to play the Red War campaign
Seems to me just to be foreshadowing. It pans from the people under the water reaching out for the surface, where the pyramids are. One take is that they are looming over us, it’s only a matter of time till they find us. Another weird take I have is the line from the witness that he is “our salvation”: at the end of shadowkeep?/forsaken?( I don’t remember lol) Oh and Rhulks boss fight objective being DROWNDROWNDROWN. The end I hope you see this :)
There is truth in the Speaker’s words. He told Ghaul to kill himself because not only was it absolutely savage, but because all guardians must be resurrected in the Light to be a Lightbearer. So if Ghaul wanted to earn the light, he needed to die.
22:16 This single cutscene solidified this as one of the gratest games I've ever played. The music, the dialogue, the excitement of getting the light back! And then, "Eyes up guardian"
The promotional material made this look so hype and silly, when it’s clearly the beginning of one of Destiny’s darkest chapters in years, till now that is…
Watching this reminded me exactly how things were with me. Played up until I was sent to Titan, got sidetracked, and dropped off the game after being tired of constantly running out of ammo.

More than that, he'd made peace with it since anything that could kill him deserved to in keeping with the Sword Logic. He would've been PISSED with the Lucent Brood for reviving him on Titan, for example, since anything dead can stake no claim to the right of existence in keeping with his own philosophy. What's dead stays dead, the entire reason he exiled Nokris as a heretic for practicing necromancy.
This should had been the starting campaign for the New Light...
I know I miss it so much!
No bc returning players from d1 are in the ship at the beginning while making a new character just revives you during the same point in time
No it shouldn’t be for new lights but for returning players from d1
It should be under the legends tab along with all Destiny 2 DLC campaigns. I love Destiny, but cutting so much content is Bullshit.
It should but a paid dlc
No wonder that as a new player who just started playing D2 last week I had no idea wtf was going on... Awesome video - thank you!
Status now?
Well season of the lost finally give you something to be able to understand.. now it has a destiny 2 timeline in which you can at least understand something and where the events take place
Looks we got ourselves a shiny
Far out man! I miss cutscenes and story missions SO MUCH!
Gimme back OG Destiny 😭!
This was awesome, thanks Destin! You’ve made me want to edit super cuts of this stuff haha!
If Ghaul became the guardians. They'd need to deal with the darkness....
Also, gotta give Ghaul some respect. He refused to take the light by force up until it was his only option. He wanted to give the Traveller the choice.
I'd like to see them try
@Yoda Most likely he didn't.
Well, he wasn't wrong. As he put it: "To steal it would be to admit failure", the moment he yoinked the light the traveler obliterated him.
@@BitrateBilly Technically, the traveler only obliterated him once he turned that light on it. Since we definitely had a whole ass boss fight before it killed him
I miss Titan. Such a beautiful planet. The giant waves had this weird calming effect on me.
Titan is a moon but I get what you’re saying. Titan was also one of my favorite destinations
Well hope you are still playing the game.
@@jet2550 haha yes I am, it's so wonderful to have the moon back, even if it's a small piece of it.
I liked both Titan and Io a lot
I seriously regret not going back during arrivals and playing through this whole campaign before it was removed.
I even remember saying “oh I won’t miss it” 😔
saaame D: i also didnt do the nokris boss fight cause i was exhausted by then but i regret it SO MUCH
I wanted to go back and replay it but I’d already done all the replays on all three characters, it would have been nice if Bungie had let us replay it one last time before taking it.
@@lunar-1340 true. I played the Red War on all my characters on my main account and all but 1 character on my secondary account. So for that one character I unfortunately got stuck with having to play the new light campaign that had Shaw Han
@@djrosette oh ouch! It’s an awful quest that one!
@@lunar-1340 ikr. The new light campaign that they have now with Shaw Han was terrible
i dont know why, but its so cool seeing Mithrax for the first time during the titan missions. when the ghost accidently freed him, it looked like he thanked the guardian and just wanted to move on. he was being smart and tying to avoid the player and even tricking them into helping him. then he helps the player later on. humble beginnings i guess. and now hes a trustworthy ally.
i mean hes noted as being extremely smart even when we first meet him here.
the chase literally gos from "ow you bumped into a captain. just another Tuesday for you. take him out and keep going" to in just a few minutes "why is this hard. where the hell did that slippery bastard go? ow their he is! wait? he just waved at us. thats new?"
really shows how he ends up becoming one of the strongest kells. he was able to play with one of the strongest gaurdians and get out both alive and unskathed by them. not meny do that. espeshaly this early into destiny
Thank you for putting all these up. I stopped playing after Forsaken but me and the wife are planning on getting Shadowkeep and Beyond Light and this will be a great recap of everything we missed. Thank you Destin!
Hope you enjoy it!
Cayde using Golden Gun hitting the Cabal ships is just so badass
You'll never realize you missed something till it's gone...
D2's vanilla campaign may have a rough start but the experience and how it felt to me still lingers in my heart and mind, it still saddens me that not everyone new can experience this and veterans can't relive those moments again ever since the content vault, myself among them. All I can do is hope that one day when the light and dark saga ends, Bungie would bring back the original campaigns where they belong and we could finally relive the destiny 2 experience in all of its glory.
Some of you may disagree, take my words how you see it, but I still believe that day will come.
You just have to have hope..
God, walking out in front of the Sun is still so friggin’ baller.
Man, I want to play this campaign again SO BAD!
Goddamit if the red war isn’t my favourite thing I’ve done in this game and if journey isn’t my favourite piece of music in the game
Come back and play the Witch Queen
Yeah I quit after the vaulting was announced. I might pick it up again if they re-release the whole story, but I'm still so in love with the RW-CoO era that I cba to play again.
What we have now is better though
I won't waste my money on some Season Pass.
Nope.@@supercato9613
9:39 This part gave me utter chills, getting pushed off the ship like that! It was insane.
I recently just got back into destiny 2 and this playlist of old destiny 2 campaigns is exactly what I was looking for. Red War campaign is the only one I completed. I’ve missed every expansion and seasonal event since then and there’s some I can’t play anymore. Thank you 🙏
Man this year in 2024 I wanted to play red war again these are the days that they have so much talents
I’m just here to hear Zavala voice. Lance Hendrick really made this character. RIP Lance and thanks for the memories. 😢
Playing through the Destiny 2 campaign from launch to where we are now has been quite a treat.
Those were the days…. Red war was awesome. Played all three classes during the beta.❤️❤️❤️
thank you for putting this together!
I still can't believe they got rid of the main campaign. That's just unheard of. I tell you, it makes replaying the game a lot less fun when it's impossible to redo all my favorite missions.
The music from 2:18:35 to 2:18:50 is nothing short of epic!
Thank you very much for compiling all campaigns in this game. Very appreciated.
The Ost is Dominus Gaul, or Immortal for the one just before i think
Thanks for putting this together. Thank you for giving me a chance to experience the campaign in a cinematic way since it's no longer avaiable. :)
Just started playing at the beginning of beyond light but so I couldn't play this but this looks way better than forsaken shadowkeep or beyond light
Yeah i feel ya
How do you do the red war campaign
@@alvinchun7718 damn
Same here i guess we have been reanimated after the red war haha the main campaign have changed now 😂💪🏾
It looks good through rose tinted glasses, but it honestly wasn’t.
Hopefully when the final campaign expansion is released they'll have nostalgia events or something kind of like how they bring back some d1 raids
I always come back to relive how much I loved red war when it dropped
I'm glad I at least got to experience it.
This is so nostalgic, 5 years goes by fast.
Looking at this now, it's crazy how much thought and foreshadowing there was so many years ago & even in the present how each seasonal story will foreshadow lightfall and the final shape. Looking forward to coming back to this when the next expansions come out.
I loved the Red War! I wish I could go back and play the whole campaign again.
24:16 🤣😂🤣😂
I don't know why that's so funny to me. The way you just stared for a moment and then took off running was perfect.
I miss this campaign sooo badly please bring it back
This is the best we have for introducing friends to Destiny 2 since they cut all this content in 2021.
@@jonpapi_2247 just look at Elder Scrolls Online. Easily larger than Destiny but we still can play everything it has to offer without much if any lag.
Thank god i get to play it a year ago before it was vaulted it was an amazing campaign i especially liked the part where we walk out of the last city and in the snowy mountain and the soundtrack of it
I was late to destiny 2 so now I have to play the new light campaign instead :(
Song is called “Journey”, if you’re looking for it.
Red War was so awesome!!! I still miss it to this day :[
Bring this back bungie.. please.. we believe in you
1:35:00 Your golden gun was so powerful he was just deleted from the game instead of being killed!
Me: sees cayde
Also me: starts tearing up "oh how I'm missing you"
Red war campaign was soooooo goooood! It was just in the era of dual primaries, i would pay to have it back with the updated enemy spawn amounts, id love to see hoards during the tower defense part!
I still get chills to this day rewatching Ghaul tell us, you are not brave....you've merely forgotten the fear of death.... "allow me to re-aquaint you."
Such a good voice actor.
Thanks a ton for posting these. I just got into Destiny and I wish I could've played these campaigns
Oof
I see ur a new light
Same here.
also a new light; i have a friend who's helping me figure out the game but i wish i'd been able to do this campaign :'(
@@woahtransbeuponye1084
We are literally walking aimlessly rn
Its a shame Red War was removed. Now theres almost no story to play without DLC
I never knew I'd be so nostalgic for a campaign I barely played five years ago. Man, I miss Red War.
Dude, thanks for saving these movies. These stories are too good to pass up.
Amazing transitions between gameplay and movie, really great work! 🙆🏻♂️
I miss the Red War campaign so much. RIP Vanilla D2, and soon Forsaken Campaign.
They’re removing the Forsaken campaign? I haven’t gotten to play that all the way through yet
@@BaNzAiXBaNaNa With Witch Queen coming soon, they'll be vaulting Forsaken. Better go through Forsaken now, and avenge Cayde.
@@sentinel1354 Bungie’s model for vaulting content was making it f2p for a year before vaulting it. Forsaken is still a paid dlc so we won’t be seeing it go until at least Lightfall. That being said, Bungie is under new management now so they might not vault it ever
Dang, you'll believe anything you read on reddit huh. Forsaken isn't getting vaulted for a long time
@@LuigisPikachu The campaign is getting vaulted
Love how in the opening everyone is running for Zavala’s Barrier and Cayde just summons his Golden Gun ready to take some MFs down.
I started the game during Curse of Osiris and dropped it a bit after Forsaken for personal reasons. I came back during Witch Queen without knowing any of it had been vaulted. I miss this campaign so much but especially the Leviathan. I have so many good memories with my old clan in that ship and man, I want to go back so badly :(
I hope one day we'll get pre Shadowkeep content again
Ugh I want to see my badass fully masterworked characters in these cutscenes now
I’m here to say thank you for this.
2:11:56 Goodbye Mr. Reddick.
The Red War Expansion Was Awesome Than The Other Expansions.
It wasn't an expansion tho
Still my favourite campaign, shame that I can never replay it
this may very well be one of my favorite videos in the entire internet
I joined Destiny 2 way after this was vaulted. I am so sad that I never got to experience this and I hope that I will someday.
I was super confused, played when this came out but stoped before the city was retaken and just came back.
honestly it's one of those things you had to be there for. it was a golden age
Man watching this video unlocked memories I didn’t even know I had wow...
Imagine if we had thundercrash in the cutscene😂 those ships would know real missiles
Destiny is honestly one of the greatest stories ever told
i mean seems like every story out there atm needs a multiverse sized story with large amounts destruction of destruction to be GOATED.
I just started playing when Witch Queen came out but was lucky enough to buy Forsaken, Shadowkeep and Beyond Light. Was unable to play Forsaken but am having a wild ride with SK and BL. I feel like I've missed so much but really grateful that these videos are available.
God I remember playing the opening mission on day 1 of d2. D2 may have had a shaky start but dam looking back I wish I could
Play this again.
That first encounter with Gaul..... Always gives me chills. Wish I could go back and replay Red War.
Man... Seeing cayde is so.... Beautiful
All these years and the speaker still has the single greatest rhoast in the game
Only came here for 9:40 - 11:20 but kept watching because the gameplay feels so clean
Man I remember playing this years ago. Never finished the campaign and wanted to replay it this year
Only to find out it was removed.
???
It doesn't make any sense
Red war should of been kept in as a guide campaign for new lights and nostalgia change my mind.
Thank you...
Now my Destiny is fulfilled
God i remember it like it was yesterday. Such amazing campaign!
Cause couldn’t have made it look anymore badass when he pulled out his golden gun. RIP
Wish you could teleport yo different timelines in destiny 2 so we can replay all of this
The soundtrack at 14:00 is just perfect.
Anybody realize the pyramids In the water at 11:50? And what if Ghaul was a disciple of the witness long before we knew the witness?
Dude you should totally do this for all the D1 expansions for sure
Watching this has confirmed my hazy memories of failsafe being my favorite character
Just started playing this game and…why, oh, why can’t I play this!
It got removed in I believe the beyond light update
Thank you!!!
This is the TRUE Golden Age of Destiny 2. And how I miss the Red War campaign.
Yeah people were talking so much crap at Destiny 2 when it came out, and now people are saying they really miss it.
