It's kind of at the point where this is getting embarrassing for developers. It really shouldn't be this complicated to map transport controls. This isn't 1987 anymore.
I mean… you’re not wrong. I wouldn’t necessarily be embarrassed to be a dev for a big DAW like FL Studio, but this specifically has been pretty top of mind lately.
This video made me realize the Nektar Impact LX25 takes up two different MIDI devices on FL Studio & they need to be on the same port; One is the transport, the other one the keyboard. Both work now, thanks!
Dude it was so hard to find a good video on this, and what really helped me out is that I have the same midi controller as you except I have the 61 key one. HOW COOL IS THAT? You deserve more followers:)
Pretty cool 💪 it’s a good controller! Glad my video helped! Thanks for watching and for the kind words! now make some cool stuff with the midi controller 🤙
When I tell you I'm in the weeds with the user manual and forums! Your videos brought A TON of clarity with MIDI and I appreciate that to the moon. This one in particular though I understand your disclaimer. Even after watching it was clear i was gonna have to crack open the manual. I did and the fix I have in mind might work.. But in short, idk if i can swap from cc to mmc. Im using Akai MPK mini plus and I'm not seeing it anywhere in the manual either (used cmnd+F and everthing lol). As far as transport buttons go, I can switch it from "ON" or "ON/OFF" It doesn't specify CC or MMC nor does it explain what either option does.. S.O.S😭 wasnt expecting to need a tech degree to hook this board up at full functionality lol
@@ndzalamangobeni4412 You’re not slow at all! The steps to link transport controls is different for every device. Technically, it’s already linked. You just have to make sure it’s mapped correctly (which is not very intuitive to do). This video mainly covers how to identify the type of information being communicated by your MIDI controller to FL Studio and also explains what kind of info is the correct kind. You’ll probably have to open your MIDI Controller’s user manual or play with it to make the appropriate changes.
You're awesome I'm thinking about buying the Beringer FCB1010 and want to know if I can work it out for live looping in the performance mode of FL Studios 20 ... Ever considered doing a video on that product ? I know Alot of people use FL and live looping is ever growing as a form of raw expression performance and writing
@@josephprice5713 you know, from my understanding the performance mode allows you to call on sections live, however idk that it allows you to live record. I don’t use that mode but this actually came up in a previous comment on another video because I made the statement in the video that you cannot do so. According to the FL Studio user manual they said you can’t live record in performance mode. Last I checked that part of the manual was over a year ago at this point. I would recommend finding that section in the user manual or verifying FL will do what you need it to do. I’ll be happy to find out I was wrong. As for doing a video on the product, I would love to but I’m in an overflowing small apartment at this point and I am California broke lol I would love to make the purchase and have room for it if I could. I’m hoping I can expand in the future and do product breakdowns and product reviews.
Looks like piano roll recording is disabled in performance mode via the midi settings part of the FL Studio user manual. Which is what I based my assumption off. www.image-line.com/fl-studio-learning/fl-studio-online-manual/html/envsettings_midi.htm Double check, but should be good to go 🫡
Sorry for the late response! That is a good question. Because there is a disconnect between mmc information and programmability within FL Studio I don’t quite know how to answer that. If you can change it to be CC info you can assign it to any assignable parameters in FL Studio. However, transport controls and controls like the loop button generally live in the mmc world. Which means it’s not programmable in FL Studio except by using presets via the midi settings page of FL Studio. Wish I had more info, however, there’s not really a specific answer I know how to give.
You are familiar with maschine 2 software with maschine hardware used as a controller? If you are then you maybe you can help me understand what it is im trying to do. So the way that maschine allows the knobs to be used to "scroll" and "zoom" simultaneously using 2 screens right next to each other is such an awesome way to operate the sampler while doing slices to sample, or to edit the arrangement, etc. etc. I love this but one thing about maschine that is such a let down, is that I cannot multitrack record audio (ex: A vocal mic, and guitar) at the same time. And it doesnt have great ability to comp audio either. So for that reason I have found Reaper to be the DAW that seems to have the greatest potential for my style of creating music. Therefore all i want to do is be able to use my maschine OR any other hardware device that has a couple knobs to be able to be control reapers "arrangement view" by the same way of the 1st knob scolling left and right, and the other knob increasing or decreasing "horizontal zoom" levels which directly effects the speed in which the 1st knob scrolls at. What terms do I look up in order to accomplish setting something like this up? If you are unfamiliar with Maschine I can send you a video clip of me using it so you can see what Im referring to.
Honestly, I would tackle this in bits. First thing would be to search and look into controlling the arrangement interface in reaper to find out if it’s even possible, and if it’s possible, how to do it. Then I would read the user manual for machine and figure out what kind of information the knobs you want to use are actually sending. If it’s cc info, can you assign that cc info to reapers arrangement options? This will depend on what you learn about reaper. If reaper requires a specific type of mmc or cc info at a specific number, can you edit the aforementioned knobs on your device to match that? This will depend on what you learn about machine. What you are trying to accomplish can be quite simple but is a task with many variables that I doubt you’ll find without breaking it into smaller bits. Smaller bits like: how reapers arrangement works, or how machines midi is output.
You’ll probably want to be extremely direct as well about what specifically you want to automate, such as arrangement scroll or zoom. Also specific about what it’s called and If it’s called Arrangement. I know it’s called the playlist in FL Studio or the channel rack would be another page of interest in FL Studio and would probably garner better search results. You may even try chat GPT. Chat GPT isn’t always right but it’s a pretty solid resource.
Sorry for such a late response! I have not ever gotten them setup as a part of my workflow, had to say if they ever worked! Did you find a way to make them work?
[FIXED] - My keylab 49 is sending green MMC transport signals to FL Studio 21, using 'generic controller' settings. Very frustrating to be unable to right click and assign the play button. No amount of digging through settings or changing controller types is helping. Oof. I'm not putting my studio session on hold to go down the custom scripting and mapping rabbit holes. Sigh. Thanks for the video in any case, it was more helpful than antything else I've found, including the Arturia manual. I'll try the FL Forums as a last resort. Just annoys the daylights out of me to need to always log in just to be able to read the posts. EDIT: FIXED!!! - Installed Arturia MIDI Control Centre software, DLd the v1.33 Firmware update and installed. Simple as that. Comments on the Image Line FL Forums said that this didn't werk for them, so I was reluctant to try. Pitch bend was still green but right click and assign werked and it lights up orange now. Glad you were able to figure it out! Good info and good luck!

Thanks a lot, this helped me a lot,but i still have tons of pads knobs etc to bet linked,I have MPK261 so i think it is almost the same as your mpk,so i need link taptempo, note repead, arp, latch, specialy touch pads and all other .
@@ScaleAudio this i have fixed already,i only needed to setup clock to internal and rec stop tempo etc works, but full level,16 level bank A B C D doesnt work
@ I honestly don’t use the banks for the pads very often so I’m not clear on how they function. I generally just program my samples to my pads via fl studio rather than my pads to my samples if that makes sense.
It’s hard to say. Orange means it’s linked, if you can’t see it do anything that means it’s linked to something random and most likely not useful. You can try the presets in the midi settings page and see if any of those work for you. You can also see if your midi controller lets you assign an mmc value to the control in question and change it until you get the desired effect.
I have found a problem in many controllers in the transport, it turns out that you have to press play stop rec twice, etc. example: Behringer umc all, these controllers only send messages toggle on, I have been looking for how to make a script to convert these values to toggle off , some information about this, in other dawn this can be programmed to any CC on or off
Interesting, I've noticed this with the toggle buttons under my mix faders on my akai 249 when trying to latch to the mute/solo for mixer tracks or channels in the channel racks. I never much thought about what was actually going on under the hood but that makes a lot of sense. I'm going to do a little digging. If you find a solution, please let me know!
I don’t have a mini mk3. You could look at the user manual or Google it. If I had one I’d totally figure it out on my own time and then tell you, but I don’t have one to try it on.
Hell Marek. I’m not 100% clear on what you are trying to do. Hopefully, however, this helps. The “Full Level” button’s functionality, is to set the pads to play at maximum velocity. I don’t believe it effects note velocities. We’re you trying to change note velocities?
If you were trying to change not velocities, you can click the global button on your MPK and then scroll to the right a couple pages with the right arrow until you get to “keyboards”. Under keyboards, the curve option will change how quickly a note reaches max velocity. The gain option offsets the start of the curve so you are either a higher or lower starting velocity on the curve. And the black/white options do the same as the gain option, however, for black and white keys independently.
Dude, is there a way to link an specific instrument from "Channel Rack" to a button from my controller? I mean, I want to select fastly a channel pressing an specific button. My controller is an Oxygen 61 MKV. Thanks!
Interesting question. That would be some type of MMC data. Midi works in CC but things like your transport controls work in MMC within FL studio. You can’t map MMC data practically so I’m unsure of how to achieve this. You may be able to use image line control to do so. I’m not entirely sure though. Image line control allows you to program shortcuts and press them on your iPad or phone to quickly change screens, tasks, etc. although idk if a function for choosing specific instruments exists as I don’t use it myself. I would assume it does though. As for programming that kind of function to your controller itself I am honestly clueless.
