You know, I want a tactical healing Talent for Ying because Life Exchange requires aiming. When I'm focusing on trying to aim at my teammates, a flank comes in to kill me. That's why I play Resonance, it's a tactical talent. If they made a powerful tactical healing Talent for Ying, I'd gladly give up Resonance. The old Talent Lifelike used to be that.
You might have a difference of opinion, but I believe that off support is far better at following teammates (flanks or flanking teammates) and filling in the healing that the main support can't do because they might be too far away or their behind a wall and their healer can't get to them. A great example of this is Jenos and Vora whose self sustain is enough to 1v1 most backline dps and that extra bit of healing from Jenos (Along with damage) is enough to beat someone who Vora struggles against.
i cant send any messages on your discord server because it asks me for my phone number but when i enter in the number it doesnt work is there an other way i can be given permission to actually use the server
No. No no. Check why PunkDuck quit working for hi-rez. He tried, both in smite and paladins, and both were disasters, didn't get paid, small deadlines and with a team that barely verified his script, and after one of his videos wasn't all that popular, he was promptly fired unjustly
LMFAO WHAT WAS WRONG WITH ME WHEN I COMMENTED THIS One time I almost did 100k with Ying We lost because my team left me as the only healer, making the game hard to both heal and damage since my team was pure garbage and a pretty good enemy team. Aw I was hoping you'd tell us the specific talents that make each support off/main (also for tanks). But amazing video none the less, should help some people understand a lot better
If the Talent increases your healing output/ effectiveness ( range, cooldown, how many champs it can heal at the same time) - main support talent. If the Talent increases your damage, gives you a stronger crowd control ability or mobility - off support talent.
If the Talent increases the tanks survivability for example damage reduction or crowd control immunity/ let's them hold an area on the map or objective better ( Ash big shield talent, makoa half shell, Fernando aegis, Inaras mother's grace) - main tank talent . If it gives a tank more ability to get kills, or force enemies to retreat, often called making space ( Ash slug shot for extra range, makoas pluck for more dmg obviously, and even Inaras cripple talent for if you want to play her as an off tank)- off tank talent. Idk maybe this helps kinda bored ngl.
I think Ying can be a pretty good support if you use the Life exchange talent and decent loadout, heal output can be similar to damba albeit the damage is pretty bad which shows a lot in the late game, though you can heal pretty far with your illusions so if your teammates can run away to a good position you are likely to save them, not to mention you can literally use illusions as meat shields
I don't have a problem with solo off tank. Actually, this also applies to solo main tank. It doesn't matter if you are solo with one of these two, if you don't play smart you are going to die a lot. Play with your team. YOU are a tank, LEAD your team. However, for solo supports that pick damage talent and bad healing base kit, there's no forgiving. It's not your fault though, its Hirez's poor balancing
Poor matchmaking too. Unless you're in a lobby where you can trust your DPS/tank to peel for you, some self-defense is important. LE Ying is easy to dive. FL Ying, not so much.
I think this is a problem for solo off tank. I'm talking for most of the time here. A lot of them just can't survive enough and will not be able to do neither point tank (cause they can't contest point/defend areas) or off tank role (cause they can't dps enough if they take too much damage and die). Solo Khan, Atlas, Raum, Ruckus, Torvald, Yagorath, is going to put your team at a disadvantage. That being said, i got your point, you can still win ofc. Even with the worst team comp it is always possible to win with your team. But where i don't agree is that it's going to feel better for you and your team if you pick a tank that can survive long enough. You're still going to die as solo point tank if your team loose the teamfight because playing solo tank sucks but it's going te be better than solo off-tank (you don't wanna die before your damage dealers, that would suck) .
@@ectotrix7399 Solo off tank does work, but needs the right team comp. You don't contest point immediately, but instead dive their backline. Ideally your backline dps apply pressure to keep their team focused while you and a flank go and wipe their supports. I've had a fair amount of success with this as Yag.
@@Chr0n0s38 I mean this is also what you wanna do every game, no matter what tank do you have. I still think you are more chance to die too early with an off-tank that's what i'm saying (like the the first to die in your team, for exemple if your dps must hide and the enemy team focus you for several seconds). Do whatever you wanna do but that's not what I would do. Anyway i can't force people to play what I think it's good.

There's a distinction I like to make in the Off tank class that may not be valid at all but it's there anyways, while some off-tank serve for a much general/versatile purpose often accompanied by a lack of mobility (Khan, Atlas, Torvald) others are exceptional at diving accompanied with a lot of mobility (Yagorath, Ruckus and Raum) While some off-tanks play around their allies some others relly on their aggresiveness
What you're talking about are the subclasses of Off Tanks: Divers and Brawlers, namely, and then there's Support. Divers rely majorly on hit-and-run strategies while Brawlers are meant to hold out in a fight either long enough to win or for someone else to finish the job. The third type, Support, are tanks who provide buffs or heals to help their teammates win matches, Torvald being the prime example of this category.
As a support main, I make sure to always go for the talents involving heals (unless i'm doing a quest/trial). With Ying, i always go Life Exchange. With Seris, I always go Mortal Reach. I really do wish ying had a different talent from focusing lens. Like how the fact her other two talents to a degree alter how her clones work. Like a random idea could be that ying can have three clones out instead of three but her clones lose 25-50 percent of their base health. Just something other then focusing lense
i believe a long time ago in the past ying had something similiar. there was a talent that allowed her clones to target 2 allies at once at the cost of reduced healing. apparently it was disgustingly broken though. I reckon this is why mojo are so reluctant to buff ying. one wrong tweak and you can tip her immediately into the op zone. though i wonder if giving her an innate ability to teleport to teammates on her life link would be too op.

Bruh as a Fernando main the beauty of him is that he is not a point tank but rather flexible. He starts out as a point tank but as the caut gets a hold he becomes an off tank and melts through the enemies like butter. You should always secure a flank and not just straight up get on the point. If the enemy tank is on the point, GOOD. Now its a 5v4. Also, Atlas with Deja Vu is a great point tank. He cannot be removed from the point. So he is flexible thanks to his shield reset, rewind and aoe setback which you can lob over terrain or sometimes shields. You can also double banish their support too.
Dear Andrew thank yoy very very much for making this guide, i've been confused for a long them by not knowing who is a main tank and who is an off tank. i once thought khan was a main tank cuz of his shield without considering his shield is so small. and i learned about off tanks who can be main tanks. like you saisash was an off tank but she can be a main tank,so anyway thank you.
You forgot the legendary forbidden technique of 5 main supports on siege. You have unbreakable healing even with mid-game caut but you gotta get that 4-0 before caut hits %60. If you can't win before that you're basically doomed
Kinda foolish to say something like that. If they didn't love the game, they'd pull the plug on servers cuz to be frank Paladins is already in a monetary crisis, there's a reason why we still get champions and event passes with mostly high quality skins and balance patches. If they didn't love the game, we'd be in a drought like Overwatch was.
Problem is though when the first 4 picks in a casual game are all flanks and damage that’s when I just give up and solo tank with raum lol. Also yeah like you said two off tanks is do-able.
Most of this is down to personal playstyle, composition, build, and skill. I point defense as Raum and Torvald all the time, and use Pip as a main healer.
nah cuz as a level 62 ying, i don’t get why most ying players choose either reasonance or focusing lens even thought they’re the only healer, i have seen so many ying players do that and it confuses me, like they’re asking to throw the game.
I played this game for 2 to 3 years and this is the first time im hearing that supports that pick their dmg talent are called off supports and that all supports are can be off supports cuz everyone of them have a Dmg Talent.
How do I copy paste this amazing video link into every single ranked lobby chat where a level 150 seris insist on playing mortal reach when we already have a main support io / rei
I usually play focus rei all the time cause the benefits of extension seem kinda pointless at times, while focus allows me to help my teammates and defend myself in dire situations
I play ghrok all the time and go any talent (mainly go maelstrom) and still average close to 100k healing a match... talents are not exactly the sole basis on how much you heal, it also depends on your deck builds too
On base kit alone these are (imo) main, flex, and off healers MAIN: Rei, Seris, Lillith, Io, Damba FLEX: Furia, Jenos, Grover, Grohk, Pip OFF: Ying, Corvus
Thank you for making this video. I played normal matches, I picked ruckus (off tank) and my team mate was like: we don't need two tanks! I was so annoyed. Like do I have to play rank for smart team mates or what?
You have no idea how many people don't know this. I see players with high level being main support and not healing properly. And also when you're the only support and they don't protect you
main tanks stay on point, off - tanks attack with flanks, main healer deals a lot of heal, off - healer just 2nd or 3rd smg with opportunity of healing
Please god, if you’re listening, protect me from queuing into matches with reso ying mains 🙏 I know they won’t remove the talent cause for some reason people enjoy this nightmare fuel of a throw pick ☹️
Good video, but I disagree with 2 things: 1. I would consider Raum AT LEAST a flexible tank, with a shield, healing and movement ability (+ a supressive minigun) he could do both very well 2. As a yago main, I would also consider her a flexible tank. She is definetly better equipped for off tanking, but with harden and area denial combined with healing cards and the point heal talent, she can be a menace on the point
great video and to be honest very long over do. now you need to make one on buying items and why. PLEASE!! It stresses me out when I have 2 damage on my team and neither buys wreaker to counter khan. Also why 2 snipers on Primal court is a bad idea.
Respectfully a main support and off support is actually not that great at all. Two off supports however, that know when to push, when to dmg and when to heal is insanely valuable. Especially when late game caut hits. It's actually the meta with a shield tank and a non shield tank like inara, azaan or term. Why you never see that though is a combination of 2 things. 1 being peoples old outdated belief 2 supports aren't great and especially 2 off supports. The other reason is because playing as an off support with another off support on your team is very hard to play because you have to be hyper aware of your team and not tunnel vision too much on either healing or dmg. You basically have to be a professional at situational awareness, know when cauts up, when you can pop a heal and it be effective, when to sit there and try to fire on someone and it be effective dmg, there's so much going on playing an off support with another off support. But it's unbelievably overpowered. Simply put a 100k heal 100k dmg jenos on the team in a 20 minute game can't be beat, the value of that champion is top tier. Then you add in the factor that they are trading out that dmg and heals at the right moment, even if the other support has fallen.. yea you can't beat that value.
Uhh so like... Who are even the main and off supports? You clearly listed the ones for frontline. Why not supports? I have an idea but it's not exactly clear.
He did post a few support combinations for Main Support & Off Support but uh, have this small list based on my experiences Main: Io, Mal'Damba Flex: Seris, Pip, Grover, Grohk, Furia Off: Jenos, Ying, Corvus, Rei ???: Lilith (I never find her in matches)
Ash's right click is an integral part of her kit, no matter what you're going. Being able to completely fuck someone's movement by throwing them into the air is great, even better if you huck them off the map with her knockback card
I thought nando could be flex between both role also, personally, I think some support with good base healing can go to dps talent (Grover and Seris as example) ok btw where is sub-healer raum xD
I main Pip (Recently got him to 71 in case you're wondering.) and I'm always stuck doing Combat Medic. I don't complain, as I love healing in team games. It's so fun and satisfying. Feels like I'm playing another game at times. Then there are times where another support shows up and they pick the healing talent too, causing my team problems. (Like you explained in the video.) Lots of healing is fun, but too much is a HORRIBLE idea late game. Especially if that's all you do. As Pip, half way through the game, when healing gets much harder, I focus more on doing damage, chickening, slowing, and then heal when I know I can safely do it for the teammate who's low. (They still die to their own recklessness anyway in the following 10 seconds after. They think their immortal with a healer sometimes. Especially idiotic Bariks, Victors, and flanks. You can't heal stupid.) I rarely get to do off support which is upsetting,I admit. Most people see Pip and they just choose whatever they want. (Usually a Damage or Flank main of course.) But sometimes we have duo supports. (Usually a Ying, Grohk or Seris.) I have yet to memorize what talent pictures are what, so I can't tell what talent they pick half the time. (I remember the name of the talents more than the pictures.) If I knew the Ying or Furia was gonna pick their healing talent for example, I would do catalyst or mega potion so I can focus on flanking and doing damage for a change. I wish there was an easier way to tell what talent a player was using when you play on console. We don't have an easy way to check that. Just hold the tab button and see the talent picture. We can't highlight the talents with a cursor like PC players, thus making things harder. I feel like fixing this would spare a few headaches sometimes. In regards to Frontlines, I'd rather pick anything else other than Frontline, even Moji. Frontlines are very boring to me, plus... people focus you so hard, making every match stressful. I only ever have fun with Khan, Ash and sometimes Makoa and even then, I doubt my usefulness to the team with them a lot of the time. (I get the best results with Khan though.) Nice video Andrew. Very informative. Maybe one day I'll see you or people here in casuals. (No ranked for me, no sir.) Have a blessed day!
You can see the talent name and description by pressing "A"/"X" while on top of their character and then you use the D-pad to move your cursor over to their talent
Atlas' kit is pretty good at pushing at the enemy backline with the help of a flank teammate, rewinding enemies for if they're getting healed for the teammate to finish them up, healing himself back up with second chance to keep pushing, and providing a defensive barrier to his teammate with stasis field
Hopefully this basic overview of main & off tanks/supports will help players stop picking something silly like solo tank Raum or solo healer FL Ying in the future! Please... please?

Dear Andrew thank yoy very very much for making this guide, i've been confused for a long them by not knowing who is a main tank and who is an off tank. i once thought khan was a main tank cuz of his shield without considering his shield is so small. and i learned about off tanks who can be main tanks. like you saisash was an off tank but she can be a main tank,so anyway thank you.
Ash with Fortress Breaker increases the size of her shield, which allows her to zone more of an area and thus making her more viable to hold point.
As a rei main (i hope to play restraint but end up as extension a lot) I cry when nobody else plays support because they think I’ll heal them
a new raum rushing into the enemy team with no idea what his M2 does:
You are so underrated brother
You forgot the legendary forbidden technique of 5 main supports on siege. You have unbreakable healing even with mid-game caut but you gotta get that 4-0 before caut hits %60. If you can't win before that you're basically doomed
Its easy to 4/0 against 5 supports they can't heal if your team targets 1 at a time.
@@Whyvren950 no you can outheal pretty much everything in early game so it's easy to get the first two points, than the caut start kicking in
@@Whyvren950 I think it depend on team comp, not all team can have ability to burst down 1 guy quick early
I think nando should definitely be put in flex, only difference is hes better as point than off
This is why i still love paladin even though the devs themselves doesn't. Everything is so dynamic
Yagorath is definitely a flex.
Can we get an update on who's main tank and who's off tank please, and who can do bot? I have no idea anymore
How do I copy paste this amazing video link into every single ranked lobby chat where a level 150 seris insist on playing mortal reach when we already have a main support io / rei
What mouse do u use? Asking just out of curiousity
I usually play focus rei all the time cause the benefits of extension seem kinda pointless at times, while focus allows me to help my teammates and defend myself in dire situations
I only play extension when i know i cant chase the flank
favorite DPS : Moji
favorite flank : Pip
Favorite Tank : zhin
Favorite healer : Raum
Yes
I can kinda see the three of them but excuse me what the actual fuck is a tank Zhin?
@@octaviusthe2nd672 gain back conter when it hit, and stuff that make you more like an off tank. Look it up on UA-cam.
@@captainphoton1693 oh you mean the cockroach Zhin?
@@octaviusthe2nd672 we aren't using the same name XD
Please save me from all of those solo support binary star Jenos
I play ghrok all the time and go any talent (mainly go maelstrom) and still average close to 100k healing a match... talents are not exactly the sole basis on how much you heal, it also depends on your deck builds too
On base kit alone these are (imo) main, flex, and off healers
MAIN: Rei, Seris, Lillith, Io, Damba
FLEX: Furia, Jenos, Grover, Grohk, Pip
OFF: Ying, Corvus
As a Ying enjoyer, it makes me hella mad to see a dmg Ying as a solo healer
i will never understand why most yings use focusing lens when they are the only healer in the team
Thank you, if I see another solo FL or renosance ying, I'm gonna loose it
Io is only a main support I'd say. Sacrifice is not really a viable option.
I feel there are some healers that are just meant for off supporting and bad for main support like Jenos
Thank you for making this video. I played normal matches, I picked ruckus (off tank) and my team mate was like: we don't need two tanks! I was so annoyed. Like do I have to play rank for smart team mates or what?
Best example for double off support would be grohk furia tbh
Is off flank a thing too? Cause Koga should be one
FlankNando is forgotten it seems.
You have no idea how many people don't know this. I see players with high level being main support and not healing properly. And also when you're the only support and they don't protect you
My support mains are jenos seris and damba. Which other support characters go well together with them?
I'm a tank main cause no one else picks it. You know the pain of a 1v5 with raum you can hold out but your enemy needs to be dumb for you to survive
main tanks stay on point, off - tanks attack with flanks, main healer deals a lot of heal, off - healer just 2nd or 3rd smg with opportunity of healing
Please god, if you’re listening, protect me from queuing into matches with reso ying mains 🙏 I know they won’t remove the talent cause for some reason people enjoy this nightmare fuel of a throw pick ☹️
Good video, but I disagree with 2 things:
1. I would consider Raum AT LEAST a flexible tank, with a shield, healing and movement ability (+ a supressive minigun) he could do both very well
2. As a yago main, I would also consider her a flexible tank. She is definetly better equipped for off tanking, but with harden and area denial combined with healing cards and the point heal talent, she can be a menace on the point
But I got a question. If you have 2 tanks and 2 healers, what is better for the last one? A dps or a flank?
"You see it everywhere in ranked"
meanwhile
9/10 I have to deal with some a-hole who decides we already have a tank so they grab a different champ.
great video and to be honest very long over do. now you need to make one on buying items and why. PLEASE!! It stresses me out when I have 2 damage on my team and neither buys wreaker to counter khan. Also why 2 snipers on Primal court is a bad idea.
I feel like this video was made for the ying mains tbh
What about tank Gronks and main support Skye? ;)
I think inara is a flexible tank too i love playing her as an off tank
yago nara goes hard
How long is this PTS? I don’t play PTS and waiting as Grover to see my own healing radius 💀
Is Extermimate Furia a main Suppprt ?
Uhh so like... Who are even the main and off supports? You clearly listed the ones for frontline. Why not supports? I have an idea but it's not exactly clear.
He did post a few support combinations for Main Support & Off Support but uh, have this small list based on my experiences
Main: Io, Mal'Damba
Flex: Seris, Pip, Grover, Grohk, Furia
Off: Jenos, Ying, Corvus, Rei
???: Lilith (I never find her in matches)
Every support champion can be a main or off support, it depend on the talent (sorry for bad english)
i feel attacked as a ying main who actually goes life exchange 😪
Going to befriend as many people in normals as possible to send them this
What category would atlas fit in?
Everytime I wanna play Raum, I get stuck solo tanking. Fun times
How is Ash countered by resilience outside of her ultimate?
Ash's right click is an integral part of her kit, no matter what you're going. Being able to completely fuck someone's movement by throwing them into the air is great, even better if you huck them off the map with her knockback card
Resi reduces knockback abilities
No bonk when resilience
@@SocialExperiment232 I have hundreds of hours in this game and did not know that.
I thought nando could be flex between both role
also, personally, I think some support with good base healing can go to dps talent (Grover and Seris as example)
ok btw where is sub-healer raum xD
You better put that Raum in the middle I will wreck a team with him on point whole match just need a decent flanker
Happened to me my first qualifying game of ranked and got cussed at for not knowing how to off tank lol
Cant Atlas be played as a point tank with his talent as well?
You can't heal stupid.)
I rarely get to do off support which is upsetting,I admit.
(I get the best results with Khan though.)
Nice video Andrew. Very informative. Maybe one day I'll see you or people here in casuals. (No ranked for me, no sir.) Have a blessed day!
You can see the talent name and description by pressing "A"/"X" while on top of their character and then you use the D-pad to move your cursor over to their talent
@@saatisthong6139 Wait you can? News to me. Thanks for the info. Can't believe I never knew this. :(
Bro literally just hover over the talent and it shows the name
@@adnanhussain9057 I know it's an essay to read through, but they mention they play console
@@techwizsmith7963 Yeah my apologies. My thoughts race when typing and I end up creating essays. It's a real problem. :(
Can someone explain how atlas is just an off tank? He feels more like a hybrid that leans more toward off tanking to me.
Atlas' kit is pretty good at pushing at the enemy backline with the help of a flank teammate, rewinding enemies for if they're getting healed for the teammate to finish them up, healing himself back up with second chance to keep pushing, and providing a defensive barrier to his teammate with stasis field
He has the longest cooldowns
Unnatural persistence yag is an point tank build so I'll put her in flex
I think I can do both main and off support when Im focus rei.
And then there's Torvald
He's the one and only support-tank
7:19 no
wait isn't fire ball nando a viable build?
