- In this video we go over the basics of Saiga sporter Ak conversions. We did forget to mention replacing the trigger guard and welding up the bottom attributes of the receiver. Hope this clears a few things up for you on your project.
I’m no expert but I can tell you put effort into your work. Looks good.
I picked up a 223 Saiga that at the least needs the rear conversion with a better trigger. I'll look tonight and hit you up after 1/1/23.
Nice video.
Nice to see you welding up the old trigger holes. Just my preference over the pop in caps or whatever else, it’s more work because it’s worth it.
Thank you for this awesome video and thank you for showing your saiga rifles 🇺🇸☘️🤘⚡️
Fancy. I did a conversion back in 2009 (one of the first guns I owned) and riveted the holes, took a dremel to the floorplate, reused the trigger guard, and threw some tapco stuff in there, then rattle canned it and it shoots quite fine. A jigsaw worked to reuse the factory foregrip and expose the gas tube.
Very nice work, I’d like to look at just converting my old saiga to take ak mags.
Besides it being dimple pressed back,, I wish I could have you display my perfect example of a AK 101, 💪💪💪🤙
Make a vid on it please sir haha
Need to get my Saiga 762 over to you guys
It's important to note that when you machine out the front trunnion for better fitment of ak 556 mags, that the front trunnion is NOT compromised in any way. I had some conversations with idiots over that one 🙄
Excellent vid. I watched it thoroughly. 2:40 Rifle Dynamics Rear tube conversion. Which stock is that? I like it - not bulky and oversized. I have an unconverted 7.62x39 Saiga waiting in the wings. I will contact you to talk about setting up a conversion.
I bought mine with the rear conversion from classic arms. Im leaving it that way simply because I prefer the longer foregrip. But i did install the zhukov folding stock. But the best part is it was only $300. Oh and my front sight isnt dimpled its pinned.
Just got my 104 back from blackbush today fuck it's so sweet
First nfa item
What I did with my Saigas, I have a 20" barrel 7.62x39mm and a 5.45x39mm, and I just did the bullet guide and FCG. I left the sight block but I'd really like to either change it out or have the end barrel threaded for a brake. I just want it done right because they've gone up considerably in value and I don't have everything I need to do it right. I've never even seen a 20" barreled Saiga and i can't find much on it. It doesn't use the same size foregrip as 16" Saigas.
Great video. Thank you. I have a question. When replacing the front sight block and gas block with authentic Russian virgen parts that have never been drilled before, how do you drill the new ones to match the pin notches already drilled in the barrel for the 3mm pins? Is there any tricks or tips you could offer?
Hey Cody might be a dumb question but is there a way or how to put magazine dimples on an existing saiga. I have two one has the dimples one doesn’t. I love the dimples haha
I just found a 223 Saiga at a pawn shop. Based on SN# looks like a 2002 model. Thicker barrel and no dimples on the receiver. Missing original dust cover, gas tube, rear sight and all the furniture, however receiver is still unconverted and bolt, carrier and barrel appear to have limited use. I set it aside on a long layaway and considering two options: Restore if possible to original sporter configuration, or convert it into something more AK101 like. How would you recommend getting around the thicker barrel though? Every FSB, GB and handguard retainer I find is meant for the thinner barrels.
we fix all that.
@@weapongeneticsrd7429 Cool. Do you turn down the barrel or ream out the parts to fit the thicker barrel? Still have plenty of time to decide what direction to take with this one. Either all original, or AK-101 conversion.
What would be the cost with me supplying all the parts for the front and rear end conversion? Website isn’t specific.

Do you mind sharing a parts list for all of the conversions?
Do you do front end conversion for the Saiga 308? I did the pistol grip conversion but never did the front end because the barrel is thicker on the 308.
Do yall dimple recivers?
Not possible, It has to be dimpled as the receiver is being formed
Hey I have a 308 saiga what are the size differences I need to look out for? I tried to do a conversion but time got in the way. So need to remove the front sight and put on an adjustable gas block.
what size pins do you use for the side folding conversion? 4.5 or 5.5?
Both
I have a stock Sagia 7.62x39. All I want is adjustable gas block and a threaded barrel 5/8x24 how much? Thank you Wayne. I want to use my Alaskan 360 on it.
Im trying to find a 105 gas block for my saiga 5.45 which ones work 45 or 90 and who makes 45s and 90s doesn’t have to be “authentic”
What company or websites can I get polymer furniture for my Saiga?
My Saiga was easier due to being an older import so the FSB and GB were pinned not pressed as later models.
You're right drilling those later ones out is a freaking nightmare even with cobalt drill bits.
@@ArieteArmsRAMLITEso how does my friend know if it's a newer or older one?
I have a saiga Sporter like it just the way it is
Good for you.
Whats your guys pricing for just a front conversion
Do you guys weld and smooth the skateboard tap?
Yes
What exactly did you do to accept ak74 mags? Bullet guide?
Milled the trunnion
@@weapongeneticsrd7429 did you have to install a bullet guide? If so which one?
How much for the traditional conversion like the top rifle?

That paint on the converted Saiga should be a gloss finish job.
Glad you are a expert.
Incorrect.
New to AKs…can you even get Saigas anymore?
Hard to come by since they were banned from import by Obama.
Here in the US, no. Saigas and Veprs have been banned from importation since the Obama administration. Whatever is here is what's here.
When you thread the barrel, do you press it out of the front trunnion? Thanks!
Yes barrels have to be removed to be threaded.
@@carriemercer8168 you are wrong, we have to fix barrels all the time from people doing it this method. We do it the proper way by pulling the barrel and aligning it in the lathe.
@@carriemercer8168 lols stick a suppressor on it and tell me about your baffle strikes or do some actual accuracy testing and tell me how good that crown is. Actually get off my page and stop spreading bad advice.
@@carriemercer8168 lols good so go be a UA-cam gunsmith. Let me know how many barrels you have screwed up after 20 years and we can compare our companies reviews and revenue
@@weapongeneticsrd7429 I got a saiga 545x39 alpha ak 105 conversion that will smoke all your builds
Those are hard to pull back!
sigh-guh! sigh-guh!!!!
Just buy a gun that comes how you want. I don't mind the Sporter look
Alot of disinformation, Not all Saigas had the crush pin holding the gasblock and front sightblock on, Some actually had the 3mm retaining pins,
And good luck making those 5.45 mags run .223 ammo., The conversion followers are junk
Yes, some do. More than 4 years of mag conversion and they still seem to be running good. And yes FJB
If he says the word 'gun' one more time I will lose it. A 'gun' is a howitzer type piece of equipment actually. 'Gun' is lazily used for handgun or pistol etc, which is fine and we all do that. What he has there is a rifle. At least he doesn't say 'clip' though.
Good job.
