Thanks for having me Brett!

Waaaait that Isn't young Brett CGI?
That little discussion you had about what Jeff Beck did was cool and all but that's what you do. Squeezing soundscapes out of the guitar with your hands is so cool. Can't wait to see you around my neck of the woods.
You're a 🐐 Ariel
There’s something unique about songwriters/composer who is also adept at their instrument. Always looking for harmonies and mini melodies to strengthen the song and find hints of magic.
It’s these subtleties that I truly appreciate being broken down in this lesson.
That. Was. Fantastic! Brett, I love how you ask the questions that I want answers to. Just brilliant. I'm looking forward to seeing Ariel Posen at Old Market Square this Saturday!
Thanks so much! Glad you liked it!
Ariel is an amazing player. Caught him at a clinic last spring in Portland. He's quite the gentleman, thoughtful and kind.
Always good to catch more insights to his playing.
Thanks, Brett 🙏🏻🤍
Sure thing! More coming soon!
I love Ariel's comment at 18:00 about "It's only 5 notes, why do we have to practice every pentatonic scale in two octaves". I do this and with arpeggios, as well. All the years, it never occurred to me to break out of it. Beautiful playing, Ariel. Brett, so cool that you host these talented guitar players and strum chords to showcase their work (when you've got such amazing chops yourself). Thanks for sharing this with us.
Thanks! Glad you like the vids. It’s great to be able to have guys like this just come by!
Bringing in the heavy hitters 🤯
Gotta do it haha! Stoked they will come over lol!
Brett, the cool thing about your lessons when you have a guest who is from another planet is that you ask all the right questions. You're a great interviewer. This would otherwise be 99% over my head. Now it's only 98% over my head, but I feel with a few more views I can understand and maybe even implement some of it.
That's awesome! Glad you like the interviews! Thanks for checking them out!
brothers from another mother- thanks dude
Haha! Sure thing!
Loved Ariel since his lessons with Lee Anderton. Still listen to one of his improvs from those videos.
Yep he is awesome!
I know Ariel has become one those formidable hybrid slide guitar players that have come along recently but I really love hearing him play straight up guitar with out all the bells and whistles. Great episode.
Yep. He is really great at both!
Thanks Brett! Just saw a Guitar Paradiso with Danish Pete and Ariel’s slide playing is INCREDIBLE!!!
Sure thing!
Winnipeg represent!
Haha!
Lots of good music in and from Winnipeg
This video and Ariel’s with Paul David’s is pure gold dust. My takeaway is know the notes on guitar, really know them. Use them to find all the triad inversions. Use the ones threes and fives to voice lead to create melodies and don’t learn the note names in scales use their intervalic values ( nod to Tom Quayle) and that’s my practice routine for the next year😊
Sounds like you got a plan! Thanks for watching!
Great quote 'some people play the right thing always ' . Just incredible raw talent I guess and a exquisite taste of notes.
Very true!
This is phenomenal Brett, thanks a bunch for sharing!👊
You are welcome! Thanks for watching!
You guys look nothing alike! Definitely not siblings from other driblings!😉
Great lesson, guys. Thank you!
Thanks for tuning in!
was that tune "What if God was one of us"?
Big fan of Ariel's playing and thoughtfulness in lessons he shares, thank you for having him on!
Not sure. Just was doing a little jam. He's great. More coming soon!
6 4 1 5 chord progressions are very common. Definitely 'What if God...' chords, but many other songs too.
You guys are definitely twins! You can’t fool us!
Haha!
So inspired by Ariel's slide playing, low open tuning, and fat humbuckers, but it's next level for me to watch him play standing tuning, neck pickup, Strat. Hoping for more of that, selfishly
More coming soon!
I don't often comment on UA-cam videos, but exactly this is what I've been looking for and been expiring to be able to jam/improvise like this for so long! Please get Ariel to create a full blown course on this, covering everything from creating melodies, triads, voice leading and how all of this relates to the CAGED system.
That is awesome. I've been talking to him about doing a full length course. We shall see.
this man is a monster player
Yes he is!
He articulates my gripe with CAGED and 5 position pentatonic thinking: it's too much info to process for noobs. You get the same end result (although only really three shapes for triads), but easier entry points and a deeper knowledge in the end.
Got to add what an absolute dude Brett is. I feel like he could function as an asshole test. If you don't like Brett you are one.
Lol! Thanks for watching!
Brett Posen? Ariel Papa?? Brother from another mother? That’s a whole lotta talent on that screen!
Lol!
Thanks for this Brett & Ariel really great musical discussion.
Glad you liked it!
Very well done gentlemen.
Thanks!
Brett, you inspire me, brother! I live in a tiny one-bedroom apartment with a HUGE Mesa Boogie and Sunn tube amp that my buddy gave me. It makes a ton of noise. For some reason, the neighbors don't care. I think you are helping me turn noise into music!
That is awesome! Thanks for watching!
To be honest I wasn’t always in to Ariel’s playing but after listening to his albums and tuning to him a lot more he us now one iot my favourite players. Great song writer as well. Cool video
Yep he is really talented. Great guy as well!
You guys look like you could be brothers! Really enjoyed this post.
Awesome! Thanks for checking it out!
Awesome video!! Appreciate it guys!!!
Sure thing! Glad you liked it!
Around the end of the eleventh minute Ariel is like "ooo I think that's a song!" 😆
He definitely went back to that sound.
Probably so haha
yep Brett ! its every time a big and great pleasure ,to see your videos ,i wote to you ,one already once ,there is un year ,i am a french guitarist of 62 years and i play since 7 years and i learn every day ,thank you for your work and your humor ,good continuation and see you too later SAGUER Ronnie
Thank ya!
Love this!!!!!
Thanks for checking it out!
Always so good to see Ariel. And You Brett are a master when it comes to asking the questions “we” might have. Thats very very uniq…
Thanks! Thanks for watching!
This is awesome, thanks Brett!
Sure thing! Thanks for watching!
This lesson really resonated with me! Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Beautiful Jam
Thanks for checking it out!
Best video in a while, learned a lot. I learned the scales, penta, dia, then caged, and when you start to try and make music it’s very hard to put it all together. Then you realize in one shape all the chords are there but the intervals are changing and fast. Meh, that’s why it’s a life long journey. A man’s Rubix cube.
Haha It gets easier with practice. Once you start getting it it comes pretty quickly.
This was wonderful.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Fantastically useful ideas! Thanks
Sure thing! Thanks for watching!
Sounds great fellas!
Thanks for checking it out!
Great lesson, lots to intake here🎸🎸
Glad you liked it!
Love his playing and music. Hopefully I'll get to see him on this tour in November.
Yeah he is awesome! Definitely go see him live if you can! They are amazing!
Great lesson! That chord progression reminds me of a song called Aisha.
Haha totally. Even the melody starting around 8:02 sounds like it. Oh man this is really old stuff 😅
28:08 Massively Important lesson! I love these interviews. Guthrie Govan (pronounced Guv-an) would be a cool addition too.
Ah thanks for that! He would be amazing to get on! Glad you liked the vid. Thanks for tuning in!
You guys look like brothers, great vid, thx.
That's what people are saying haha!
Great video! some really get info. Thanks guys!
You are welcome! Thanks for watching!
Spread 'em!
Pretty much!
U WANT TO FEEL IT!!!
I've watched this about 3x, It's absolute gold. When will part 2 with Ariel come out?
Thanks! Should be out in a week or two.
Super cool 🙌🏻 Great teaching 😊
Ariel was amazing! More coming soon!
Anyone made a tab for what was played here in this video on both sides. Pure gold, thanks for the lesson!
Sure thing!
Ariel’s phrasing, tone, note choices ,song writing, musical knowledge and vocals are top notch!! Just amazing!!!
Yep he's the man!
Ariel is amazing. He also looks like your twin brother. 😏😏
Haha people were asking if he was my brother when we went out. He's just taller, better looking, and a way better guitar player lol!
I see Eric struggles to explain what he’s means because it s a formula he found through his playing.. However I do understand what he means because its happening to me.. with time your start to see everything connect, like if you have X-ray vision you see all possibilities and then you can then flow naturally.. It is a matter of time as he said. Thanks for the video guys
Who is Eric? You mean Ariel? Thanks for checking out the video! Glad you liked it.
This is great.please do my bad by khalid on acoustic guitar...please I beg of u wud be of honor sir thnx
Awesome info and lesson Bret!
Is that the same Div by 13 amp that you demoed the Belle on?? It sounds amazing!
Thanks! Probably. It is the JRT9/15
Please share how you get that awsome tone
You know I think we might have both been plugged straight in. I think Ariel was into the Divided by 13 CJ11 and I was in the RSA23.
You guys could literally be brothers
Haha
Man, the more pros I hear laying it out, things keeps coming back to knowing the basics...
For sure! It’s everything.
🙏
Thanks for watching!
This was brilliant and so inspiring, thanks so much Brett! I tried to learn the parts but there is one thing I just can‘t figure out: How does Ariel play the Cmaj in 3rd position with this kind of c-shape (like at 8:07 )?
This IS older Brett interviewing Brett from 10 years ago!
Lol! Who was taller and a better guitar player.
is Ariel making a a course ?
He has one on TrueFire.
That would be awesome. We shall see!
THE MOMENT when all made sense was when Bret asked...so that's a G shape right? Name the chords as you play. Yay clicked
Awesome!
PAPA< Are you going to upload the Ariel Posen Slide guitar licks lesson?
We have another video coming out soon.
@@BrettPapa thanks I can't wait to see it
Do you Know Mateus Asato?😁 You sound like him😍 but the different way I think, it's so so good! ( I'm Brazilian)
Yeah he is awesome! Thanks for watching!
What's Ariel's signal chain for this video? Amazing tone.
Can't remember if he was using pedals or just plugged straight into the Divided by 13 CJ11. Regardless that amp is amazing and people always ask about it.
@@BrettPapa thanks dude!
you guys look like brothers😂
So I hear haha!
What happened to your other channels?
This is the only one I have now.
Pizza lick was not mentioned lol
What’s that?
twins😁
Haha!
you two look a little similar...
Yeah that's what people are saying
Yall look alike 😂
So I hear lol!
Tell me baby, what’s your story…
Am I missing something lol?
@@BrettPapa that chord progression you guys jammed on throughout are the same chords for RHCP’s Tell Me Baby, albeit not necessarily in the same order. (F C G Am). Thanks for the video. AP is one of my favorite musicians and he and his band kill it live.
Y’all look like twins.
So I hear haha
No Mayer here 🤧
He goes over similar rhythm ideas.
@@BrettPapa Your Better Then Mayer !
Why do they both look the same!? 😂
Convergence
Haha
WTF is going on! You look like twins.. I thought this was some editing trickery
Haha
Ariel thinks like a true musician and song composer. These embellishments are what create the magic in a song.
Hello.
What is this gorgeous strat??
Thanks Papa and Ariel I subscribed.
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Awesome community of players , and music up my alley for sure …
Thanks for watching!
Just re-listened to this, it is such a great conversation!
Thanks for coming back!
DUDE!! I KEEP telling students to think intervals first!! The notes will come!
Yep
Daaaang Brett, I thought you were doing some kind of crazy filming! I thought you were playing both characters during the intro, ya'll really look alot like each other! Killer video Brother!🤙🤙
Haha
Gold
Thanks!
Will you be doing a sale on the Hendrix Unleashed course anytime soon?
Yes! Adding some more content to it. Once that is finished we will be doing a V2 launch.
yeah its takin a couple years but now i know where my root notes are in any key now still have a lot of learning to do but i finally feeling like im getting there
Awesome! Way to go!
Hey Brett - you ain't too shabby yourself, mister.
Well thank ya!
It's beautiful 😍!!
Thanks for watching!
Ariel's you tube link not working 😢
Hmmmmmm. Just type in his name in the search bar. His channel will come up.
I just did the four-chord-progression thing and it already helped me a lot! Would love to see a Resonator lesson with Mr. Posen!
Awesome! I'll see what we can do next time he is in town.
@@BrettPapa Perfect!
Love his style of playing, so approachable and with sick licks and beautiful flowing creativity! He has huge hands!
