Black man in the 1950s: I am a man. I deserve equal treatment.
White man in the 1950s: you are a black man and we can do equal but separate because of our differences

Never thought I would see the day where Dave Chapelle would be protested. Also never thought I'd see the day where the left went so insane Maher would be considered moderate and have conservative fans
Its weird to me too. Never thought I would be siding with conservatives but these people are frigging nuts
I'm conservative and actually I am warming up to Maher. I could not stand him during Trump but now he is actually broken out of nonstop complaining about Trump and speaking truth lately. I completely agree the left has gone insane. I am not saying Republicans are perfect, FAR FROM IT, but they are not trying to cancel anyone that disagrees with them. I dont agree with Maher 100% of the time but lately I applaud and respect him for pushing back against this cancel culture shit. Also I have to applaud him for calling out his own side as well and not just bashing republicans which is the big thing these days with the left.
The far left has gone further and further while everyone else stayed mostly the same. I’ve noticed this happening as early as 2011. Someone who was “far left” in 2011 would be called a “nazi” by the 2021 far left.

Best line: "Just because you're trans doesn't mean you're right about everything." The fact it even needs to be said at all reveals how big a problem this is.
You can say that about any minority group and use it to justify whatever bigotry you hold. You just see transgenders in Hollywood taking a stand against what they see is a threat to the daily life of their community as a zero-sum game on your so-called “rights.”
@@RocStarr913 I didn't mention my rights at all. Or Hollywood for that matter. I was simply agreeing with Maher's observation that these people talk and act as if they are correct in every single observation and recommendation about the world as it pertains to them. But I agree with you that someone could say that about any group. The difference is, the trans group in particular displays what Maher is talking about - what we say goes and is right, and if you don't agree with us you're a "transphobe," a bigot, and any other label we can come up with.
I don't see that in the black community, Asian community, Latino community, or any smaller racial categories, or whites for that matter. Other people know the world is a complex place with complex solutions to difficult problems. The transactivists just want everyone to agree with them on everything or else we're bigots. They're wrong.
Because basic science is in opposition to them. Male/female is natural biological law, and there is not ONE single mammal that breaks that law. You can't find a single example to the contrary in nature. And I'm not talking about intersex, which is not what we're talking about here.
I think they need mental health counseling, which is also what science said for decades until they caved to popular opinion and abandoned rationality and objectivity and we started enabling everyone and giving hormone suppressors to 10 year olds, which is child abuse.
This has NOTHING to do with bigotry.

@@RealYRM so, to understand your position, a millionaire comic making a special to hurt trans people, gay people, and women is just free speech. But trans people on the Internet and in the company raising issues with the special is some kind of "legal force"?
I love, love, love John McWhorter's use of the phrase "striking battle poses against power differentials". Such an exquisite analogy for all the yelling people do about injustices, rather than actually doing what they can to create positive change.
As Red Green once said in a 1998 episode: "People like to complain... It feels good; it makes you feel important; and you don't have to do anything"

Many Latinos I've spoken with are not down with "Latinx" because it's an anglicized term that doesn't mean anything grammatically in Spanish which is a gendered language. Makes sense to me.
Yet Latino is also an "anglicized term" created by the US Census. So is hispanic. Yet "Latinx" is the only one of those terms actually created by Latinx people. So your friends are ironically ignorant, embracing a term that is actually more anglicized and white-created than the one they reject.

I'm a transwoman who transitioned 30 years ago. IMO Dave Chapelle's special should NOT be banned from Netflix! After all, don't Dave and I both have a right to self-expression? It is my right to express myself as the person and gender that I am. It is Dave's right to express his beliefs. If only one view is allowed to be expressed, how can we have a conversation? Did Dave say some things that I disagreed with? Yes. Are there people who still do not accept me for who I am. Yes. That's okay. We can still treat each other with curtesy and respect, can't we?
Dave's special brought up a lot of things about trans people. If the conversation were about what he actually said, that conversation could be constructive. People could learn some things. As it is, the woke Twitter people have made it about them. It has become about shutting down opposition to a correct way of viewing and speaking about the issue. What does it say about them that they tormented an actual trans woman for failing to conform to their ideology?
Gender is a biological construct, not a social one. All you do is pretending and hating everyone that doesnt take your bs.

“Latinx” will absolutely never catch on within (at least within the Latin Community) because it’s a term that in itself is trying to change a whole language. Spanish, like Italian, Romanian, French and other Romance languages differentiates genders unlike English. I have a feeling whoever “invented” the term probably isn’t Hispanic and if said person is, doesn’t speak a lick of Spanish.
Yeah. I can respect the desire for more inclusivity in language (provided that it's genuine, and not obnoxious virtue-signalling), but there's a point at which unwieldiness makes it impractical. "Latinx" just looks and feels artificial, like it's being imposed... which I suppose is exactly what's going on with it. The thing I don't really understand is, if people want to get away from the binary Latino/Latina distinction, why not just drop the suffix altogether and leave it at "Latin," like you just did when referring to "the Latin community"? Why doesn't that work better than an "X"?
@@frigginjerk works because it’s in English…. It’s virtually impossible to write that using the Romance languages. Had I typed it in Spanish I would have to have used Latino. I’m sick of “communities” calling for the silencing of individuals with opinions they don’t share - yet being unwilling or unable to have a dialogue - a discussion.
Silencing another person usually means - your argument is weak.
Dave Chappelle’s friend died.
His friend committed suicide.
These are real issues - let’s talk about them.
And stop hiding behind labels.
The Problem with the world has always been "Communities" . We are Individuals, we are complex, we aren't colors, Sexual orientations, football teams. Until we value our individualism and holds our individual selves to higher standards. The world will get worse and worse

I’m a Republican but my guilty secret is liking bill Maher! Love how he is calling out all the hypocrisy.
I am the same, I am an Australian voter that vote conservative most of the time. But the "guilty secret" your feeling is not uncommon to conservative voters since the Left have become so culturally far left it makes Bill Maher himself look like a conservative.
You mean you like him when he criticizes liberals. Wow! How surprising?!
Sorry, but calling yourself a republican today instantly obliterates all of your credibility.
I'm a lefty, but holy hell I am fed up with the hypocrisy over here. Like yeah, it's pretty obvious why we lose elections, and it's frustrating to see. The left is supposed to be socially-"libertarian", yet have become far from it. Yang and McWhorter are what Democrats SHOULD be. I read the book when it came out in 2000. I thought it would make a difference. Later, I came to my senses, partly due to the hostile, uncomprehending reception the book received from black "intellectuals". I noticed that whenever McWhorter gave a public talk back then the audience was almost entirely white. He's been walking the line between black and white culture ever since.
Chappelle doesn't need any learning curve (as a panelist stated) to accept trans. In actuality, he doesn't have to agree with any of it, at all ... period, ever. And that's HIS right.

I love you bill Maher “we can have two thoughts at the same time” that’s the fuggin problem with people nowadays
Being progressive these days is complicated. I’m worried we are eating each other instead of making progress.
Arrogance has a way of doing that to people.
I've lived long enough to see this repeated once every other generation, and I've read it over and over again in the annals of history: A generation comes along and somewhere in their late teens/early 20s they have been educated, enlightened, have all the answers, proceed to condemn the established order, and to prove the primacy of their views they will do everything in their power to impose those views on dissenters or be vanquished. Ahh, the arrogance of youth -- sorta reminds you of the garden-variety Jihadist mindset, doesn't it. In effect, "Convert or die."
The problem is, sooner or later the woke mob and the political party that represents them will run out of victims needing to be coddled and segregated from others not like them, and then this "movement" will run out of gas -- and all of these "oppressed" groups will suddenly realize how they've been played by the power elite, will become disillusioned, renounce the movement, and we start the cycle all over again. The only thing that has made the current cycle more virulent and caustic is the presence of social media, which has allowed a select few corporate titans get filthy rich and powerful by promoting leftist ideology and silencing dissent thinking that will give them the cover they need to continue to get wealthier and more powerful. I'm waiting for Progressives to reconcile THAT.
We definitely are. I am 37 and have been a liberal my whole life. These days though I am embarrassed to say that. The woke left is obnoxious and completely disbanding the party.
@@RyanToolbox and the right loves nothing moren than Feeding the flames. "The left became too woke, so I changed my core idiology completly on the points of taxes, freedom, the environment, wokers right, etc."
@@RyanToolbox I'm an independent, libertarian, old-school liberal too... we used to be for free speech and free discussion of ideas. The woke-left is exactly like a far right Christian evangelical cult... cancelling shows, banning musicians, burning books (not literally now), acting morally superior, forcing everyone to go along. Heck, racism and homophobia are like original sin now, REPENT AND BE WOKE!
There isn't going to be progress until we are able to let people be people and help truly educate them on this or that.
