I did a good bit of time on the back of a Thruxton in the early 70's. My best friend owned two Velo's. An MSS and a Thruxton. The Thruxton could be a challenge to start sometimes. It would take at least three Hail Marys' to get it to fire. Kickstarter was too short, you had to stab it. The Amal GP carb was tempermental. But, when It ran, it was amazing! The Brooklands muffler sounded great and it had superior handling. First gear was tad high to get rolling. The sound of the engine at 70 mph was sweet! A true thumper! The bike was a total class act!
Beutiful bike. Now I'm 68, was riding british bikes in the 1970s, me personally on a tuned Norton Atlas, which I still have. One of my mates had a Thruxton, well he called it a Thruxtonj, maby a real one maby a venom with some parts, I was 17 years old, didn't know much then. However, another of my mates had a Bonneville, immaculately prepared, with Thruxton cams and Pistions. He could not understand how on a fast road The Velocette walked away from him. The Velocette, with a good rider was seriosly fast back then and Soooooo Beutiful.
By chance I happened to be able to see one of these beautiful machines. It is in the awesome collection of Buddy Stubbs on display at his HD dealership in AZ.
I remember one of these running in the Castrol Six Hour race in the early seventies.
Much better with no music! Many thanks for reuploading this. Chris B.
Thanks for the feedback . If you have anything you would like to know or ideas for another video let us know .
Thanks Chris
Nice bike? It's bloody gorgeous!!
Sure is
Both…a good woman, and a Velocette can bring out the best in a man 😊.
I think you are right , hahahaha

A true classic , thanks for watching. Cheers Chris
Great bike, but as you say a pig to start. My mates would a mile down the road before the thing fired.
