Hey mate, great vid, just wondering what fly line you using?? Is it like super high float? seems to lift off water very cleanly. Cheers and tight lines
what a gorgeous video of the rainbow eating the fly at 11:15, i have tried to capture a video like that, but haven´t been able to do it. What a great video and some nice rainbows !
Another great video Gareth, iam down your way next week and looking forward to getting into the fish again. your videos keep me going in-between trips.
I trout fish in Montana in the U.S I started fly fishing last summer and I instantly fell in love with the sport. I want to learn how to fish with dry flys because my knowledge is pretty much limited to nymphs. Do you have any tips that could help me out? Thank you and keep up the great videos
hey bro glad you enjoy the videos. With a dry fly it is always best to wait a second before setting the hook. don't strike on the rise wait till his head is back under. thats NZ trout anyway. cheers
Epic vid man, I miss doing these trips in the horomanga! I live out ngongotaha in Rotorua so fishing these days is rite across the road from home. Good work on the slo mo take, super cool
That shot at 11:20 is by far one of the best shots you have captured, wicked.. looking forward to seeing the Mackenzie Country videos from when you were there
Trout Hunting NZ true that, let me know. The fishing is getting better and better as the days go on, water is getting colder and clearer so the fish are on the chew..
Nice vide! Just a heads up, only takes 30 seconds or less for permanent gill damage on rainbows taken out of the water for a picture. This is especially true in cooler temps.
Hi mate your right that's why even if you saw the un edited video you would be aware i never keep a fish out of water for that long. i probably average less then 10 but sometimes have them up a couple times. I know some trout by name so i also know they are OK. Also temps are know where near cold enough 99% of the time
The fishing is all well and good but can you please tell me how you synchronise wooows with your friend? Perhaps you could do your next video on this fantastic act?
@@TroutHuntingNZ Very true. Rattlers were very common. lol My dad and my motto was 'We're not good fly fishermen, we just go where people don't' Canyons are great for that.
Wow man loving your content so far, just started watching recently. I'm not sure how active you are with comments but I have a couple of questions as I'm American and know very little about the overall wildlife in New Zealand. Are these trout all native to New Zealand? Are the fish you're catching wild?
You are fortunate that you can safely camp in tents. In the US where I live, hairy giants AKA bigfoots have ruined my camping. After 2 violent encounters while camping, I no longer camp in tents. I bought a bus that I sleep in from now on while camping.
Trout - I've encountered bears while camping, and this creature was 100% giant ape between 15 and 20 feet tall, with 24 inch long footprints. The night when he tried to kill us, he snapped a 2 foot diameter hardwood tree in half like a tooth pick. When we started returning to the area with assault rifles to try and take this thing out, he got pissed and tore a vacant mobile home clean off the frame. The encounter happened near where the famous "siege at Honobia" happened, where a guy shot one of these things that was harassing him and his family. The story about this is on you tube on the sasquatch chronicles channel. People all around this area of Oklahoma are encountering these things, but due to fear of ridicule they don't get on TV and talk about it.
Hey other fish people. If you are looking for a classic Gareth moment while waiting for their next vid, check out ua-cam.com/video/KSKDsZcBxGE/v-deo.html at 1:46 mark on Alex's channel. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Gareth definitely kept that one wet. You need to review that technique and bring it back Gareth.🤣🤣🤣

Surfingpikachu GB hey thanks heaps 🤙
So do you normally take turns to fish as you go?
I'm convinced there are no small fish in New Zealand. You can't change my mind 🤣 Great video Gareth. You're living out some dreams!
Hey mate there all babies at some point but when there small they must hide or be eaten by bigger trout.
Waoo big fish.. nice video 👍👍

Hi mate cant say exactly. North island NZ
@@TroutHuntingNZ totally understood. Just looked familiar! Cheers, bro.
reminds me of trout fishing in AZ. Lots of canyoneering involved. lol
It’s good fun and normally puts a lot of people off. But a plus is no snakes or things that bite in NZ
