One quick thing I noticed was that when you are about to undershoot someone and you have the energy advantage you can climb to cut your turning radius and drop in behind them. You can turn this into a boom and zoom if they continue to try and out turn you. :)
flaps are really useful that I find when in turning dogfight in a f-15 because it gets you at an low speed so you wont blackout but still make really go turn radius.
UNSTABLE with flaps? lmao and cant really turn when slower speeds?? plzz dont listen to this guy... an aircraft is MUCH more stable when turning with flaps if your using them correctly AND at slower speeds (until u approach a stall) you will have a much small turning radius! meaning BETTER.
"you will have a much small turning radius! meaning BETTER." - Negative! Turnrate is much more important, than the turn radius. With a small radius, you're doing less degress per second, as with the optimum turnrate.
Yeah I already knew that. I have experimented with the P-51D before. Flaps on 10 degrees (not 1) is best for low speeds, such as 300mph-. Flaps (same angle) at high speeds is what makes the aircraft unstable. So from MY OWN EXPERIENCE, not others, you guys are both right and wrong. Flaps work best at low speeds. At high speeds is when things could get wobbly.
Also, I've found (again, from hands on experience) that the FW190D is a pretty awesome climber. Either with the shape of the airframe or engine power (probably engine power). I say "Engine power" simply because idk if it is HP, engine RPMS, or what. I always thought the FW190D was pretty heavy though, but don't count me on that because I honestly don't know. Just trying to strike up a conversation (and add some information [that not all is correct on])!
I know my amount of comments/replies is getting a bit...erm...large. But just wanted to add that maybe some things have changed since the move from 1.2 to DCS 1.5. I tried DCS World 2.0, but gave up because of a mal issue, which apparently didn't come with it.
+DCS Tutorials by Fire clearly I meant smallER radius, but when you say turnRATE without saying the obvious, what are you referring to? The point I was making is that WITH flaps in a tight turn, you will be more efficient at lower speeds (until approaching stall). You can turn harder with them engaged...
Nice vid, should help me a bit. Just a quick one, what realism setting did you have on. Im struggling with dog flight, I tend to loose way to much speed, shake to crap, blackout or my coolant temp go through the roof, usually all the above :-), any tips?
ur friend forget to mention how important the rudder is. You use ur elevator and ailerons to get behind the guy and match bank angle but u use ur rudder to adjust ur aim to hit the target. like when u were strafing the field and turning wit the p51 attacking the boats little rudder would let you manouver the plane without throwing off ur shot
Depends on which one it is, there's multiple versions of them but I'm gonna tell you at least the ones that were present on WW2; Mustang Mk I: x4 .50 cal, x4 .30 cal. Mustang Mk IA: x4 20mm hispano cannons. Mustang Mk II (P-51A): x4 .50 cal. Mustang Mk III (P-51B and P-51C): x4 .50 cal but with Merlin engines and drop tanks. Mustang Mk IV (P-51D): x6 .50 cal guns and bubble-like cockpit.
The only thing I would point out about the P51 is that at the altitude you were fighting at, you would have been at a disadvantage. The P51 was dominant over 20k ft but at lower altitudes its climb rate, roll rate, and acceleration rate suffer. Also, unless at a high alt, in the P51, its always better to zoom and boom.
Good video , like the fact that labels are in to see better target and enemies (red and blue) but i think is more challenging without it , dont u think? ( i mean for the porpuse of the video is ok , i m a chopper pilot BS2 and the other day i was on SU25T vs A10c in dogfight and i had no clue how to do it )
You would not believe how many time I have read that on my video comments... It's a running joke on my channel right now. I should sell T-shirts with that question...
Was this supposed to be a "lesson" for the author of the video? Because not only roughly 1/3 of the information was either wrong, misleading or half informed, the pilot of the plane we're following can't even lead properly (or at all) when tailing an enemy aircraft. A basic skill that's one of the first to be taught. By the way P-51's corner speed (speed at which turning radius is the smallest) is around 280mph with clean wings, meaning no flaps, but P-51 itself is no turn&burn aircraft, unless it's going against heavier, faster opponents. P-51's best use is in boom&zoom fighting. Which is actually harder to master.
I can never keep my gunsight on my target. Why? I am setting wingspan and range on gunsight (I mess with the range constantly because of changed distances) but I can't hit it. WTF is wrong with DCS??
You don't need to constantly change the range. Set your range for 1000-1100 and leave it. That's the range you want to be shooting at since that's where the convergence of the guns is. Set the wingspan and wait until the plane fills your sight and then go to town.
+MyparrotTwister Or oculus rift, which is basically a Track IR except it's 3d and goes on your face, kills your performance though you need a badass rig for an oculus
So TrackIR is like an Oculus Rift, but without the screen 3" from your face, right? So how would you turn your head and still see the computer screen??? Like when he was checking his 5 to make sure his wingman was still with him. He'd have to turn his head all the way back in reality, right? How would he see his monitor doing that??
Magic_Zach The thing is that sensitivity for IR sensors are pretty strong and while turning head a little to the left, for example, you just keep your eyes at the montor, while looking back on your 6. Just youtube freetrack
"aircraft is unstable while using flaps" nope.jpg
The flaps make the airplane more stable, plasticmatt477 is correct, *****

"need to change course to 210"
"err which way is that? left or right?"
Made me crack up! :)

When you get the p51 module, do you also get the plane you're flying?

P-51D with Soviet marking...wut lol great video regardless

My point earlier in the comments
Quick Question, Is the trim always hard to keep stable for you guys or am i just having problems, i seem to be fighting the plane/trim all the time?
Lesson 1: You have the best gyro gunsight in the world. Turn it on. Turn on the gyro.
Ralfi you should put some videos up of the Mustang with you and your crew. I know I would love to watch your squad dogfight these warbirds.
i love flight sims with older planes just because I don't need to sit 2hours just binding keys :D
what is the channel ?
So they do indeed simulate v-speeds in-game then?
Why a russian skin on a mustang, they barely had any of these.
Normally the P-51 Mustang holds x6 .50 caliber machine guns, right? Forgive me if I'm wrong.
I can never keep my gunsight on my target. Why? I am setting wingspan and range on gunsight (I mess with the range constantly because of changed distances) but I can't hit it. WTF is wrong with DCS??

Because you're doing it wrong, you probably don't have the gyro turned on
but you can ABUSE flaps to work as air brakes hehe
flaps are not like airbrakes O_O they allow you to do a decent steeper while keeping your speed
Do the aircraft have a vfe speed?
You kept your promise! :)
what are features of this game make it better than il2 ?
It isn't in beta any longer.
Woops it's DCS
*****
its a plane skin, still the P-51D
Hey I just bought the P-51D.... Is it a download they send you or does it come in the mail... I'm dying here... Please Help!!!
What did you buy it on steam or their website?
I bought it from their website but i learned my computer cant handle it. guess i'll be doing some upgrades huh
104starfighter I suppose, they email you the code though so you know.
How do you move camera like that?
Track IR

That question was mostly ment for Justin_Angers, but I won't be disappointed if Justin doesn't respond, because it was roughly 2-3 years ago.

Nope. There's no reason to play War Thunder if you're looking for a flight simulator.
how can I use TS in the DCS ?
ok look like you right my friend :D
hands up if you checked your steam chat at 1:04 lol
Full realisme, you have to be gentle with the stick ;)
I thing that airbattles in War Thunder in Full real battles or in historical battles are much better that this game , try it yourself and you will see
er mr grd. what is the name of this game?
strange why would you do that?
welll it started with p and ended with enis sooo
what is the name of the game.......is dcs a-10c
I meant in-game.
Nice video, I'll form up anytime.
yeah that´s a pretty good argument. ;)
Best fucking video ever.
I wish I could get this game, too bad it's in beta
This looks like IL2...
DCS P51
Read the fucking title! It's DCS: P-51D Mustang! -.-
bluedrake u should try war thunder
i think a reason i play War Thunder is it's free :)
you mean pay2win ???
nool cickname
lol TRUE!!! lol
