Nobody gets one of these in order to drive it like a sports car. The fact that it CAN be driven like a sports car is mighty impressive. Another W for the oligarchs.
Very true, I had a few clients I had to pick up the previous generation S63 for service. It’s just fun to see a giant sofa go 120 before you realize it. Same with my 750i MSport, when I drag people at the stop light, it’s just funny to see such a big car move the ways these do.
I have to say that this is one of the few best automobile reviewers in both the US and Canada. Highly appreciate the quite richly informative content and the dedication you are creating through these episodes. I am afraid to say that quality content creators are barely followed by hundreds of thousands of subs while on the other hand crappy pointless content creators are followed by millions of subs WHAT A PITY.
With you on that . . . One note: The color on this particular one has A LOT to do with it. On this program, they had white, black, gold and grey. This color - with the satin finish wheels and interior color - transforms the car.
I could see this as a new "Transporter" vehicle. And 100% give it the stand up star and lose the frisbee sized one on the grille. AMG or not, it is the S Class...
This car is so ridiculous but it's good to see they will put that drivetrain in the new AMGs not the 4 banger in the C63 AMG. However, I don't even wanna know the cost if something goes wrong in the future.
Just passed by Mercedes in Stuttgart - but I didn't know that this car exist. Looks really really good. I think this is peak weight for this kind of Sedans - if we go EV only next gen - they will only use the finest battery and motors, which will be much lighter (I hope) I love the combo with blue outside and interior cognac, works so well!
I think these will be far beyond $200k especially after dealer markups. I wouldn’t be surprised seeing a markup and msrp totaling $300k because of how corrupt some are.
Yes, but only for the people who really want to have the cool new toy first. You'll most likely be able to get this below MSRP later in its lifecycle, just like previous S63s.
Corrupt? Why? Because they try to maximize profit on a rare and fairly limited car instead of letting the flippers make all the money? They have bills to pay like every business and besides, letter “S” in MSRP means “Suggested”. Regardless, high prices and premiums will not last long and discounts will arrive in a not too distant future as history of previous generations has shown so they better take advantage of first adopters willing to pay up to be the first on the block. Better the dealer then some flipper……
Fair warning: Base price here in Germany is € 208.392,80. Getting the "1st Edition package" (which you'd probably want if you buy one of these) will add over 30k to that. According to the configurator I'm looking at € 240.338,35 (and that doesn't include the MBUX-HUD, the 4D-Burmester and other goodies.). Now I realize that VAT in the US is generally lower than over here, however your predictions on US pricing might still be a little bit too optimistic...
This is why you are at the TOP of reviewers. All the facts, lot of figures but emotion and the joy of driving, but at 200,000 plus I agree you will not see them on the street!!!
Thanx for a most enjoyable review. What a fantastic and beautiful car, perfect color combo as well. This is surely better than a Flying Spur! I ll take 2 plz, one in this blue and the other in emerald green.
they put the electric motor in the back it's for weight distribution. the V8 is heavy enough without electric motor in the front - it would plow in corners like an Audi. the new BMW phev system uses a reduction gear to match RPM of electric motor and ICE before sending combined output to the ZF 8 speed but while that solves the RPM issue it doesn't solve weight balance issue, which however can be handled by pushing the battery to the back. that said M760i is only an i6 not a V8 because the battery is under floor not in the back like XM which is V8. this AMG does it right but it's obviously not a simple or cheap setup.
The two are different cars because this one is MUCH longer than the Lucid. Think 5 Series in terms of size when thinking Lucid. That said, this is surprisingly sharper than the Lucid.
This is before I get to your question, but please superimpose the torque and power numbers in kilowatts and newton meters when you mention them for us in other parts of the world. Please please please
Thank you for all the great reviews since I found your channel. I think the 580e might be the sweet spot of the w223 lineup, but curious to hear your opinions of it. I have a deposit for one in Canada but still a few months from placing actual order.
@@MotoManTV a shame, a 4 door saloon Mercedes should have the traditional grill with the star on the Bonet. I do like the styling In general but the trend with the large star in the grill on their saloon cars is for me personally out of place and a break from tradition
Ah...no more Torque Converter. I am struggling with that single clutch transmission on my 2019 AMG S63. Porpoisy starts, gear jams, abrupt shifts and jumpy starts...my wife's 580 is vastly superior. MB USA says the transmission is fine...any advice on how to get that transmission remedied or is it doomed. I have to feather the throttle for gentle acceleration from stops to get it to behave. And a s result my S63 drives like a VW Golf...with excellent exhaust sounds. UGH!
So a CL63 from 2010 adjusted for price used to cost around 210k. A current SL63 goes for about the same. Tell me this technological TDF that’s pushing 800hp with a DCT in an S Class for gods sake is not going to be in the mid 200s My guess is 230k+

Its a shame it has to electrified, its a gorgeous car. When i saw it was a v-8, I was excited to see such horsepower numbers. This vehicle being a hybrid and a turbo is asking for trouble. If you're rich enough to buy this just get a decked out 24' 4runner and save the rest of money and the future money on repairs (because this benz will need it) and enjoy you're life.
Let me get this straight. The entire car uses a 400v electrical architecture? Not just the traction battery? Am I right in assuming this car only has the traction battery, and no stupid accessory battery?
I love the car! They dropped the ball with the C63S. This is what should have been in the C class! Not that 4 cylinder engine with that awful hybrid system. Their engineers actually spent significant time developing the drivetrain in the S class and it totally shows it when comparing the 2024 C63S.
2.5 TONNES, I get it’s an S class, the weight doesn’t matter, but Mercedes who concept of cars at the min is wrong, adding electric just o add 500kg of weight, only to ruin handling and braking more. Could probably get the same performance with a slight tune and that 500kg weight reduction.
I think the world's automakers are putting out silly garbage like this on purpose to make everyone throw up their hands and say "ok ok just bring out the EVs. It can't be worse than this."

I'm old school. I think all Mercedes-Benz sedans should have hood ornaments.
It's to comply with pedestrian safety regulations in certain markets.
That makes them Mercedes Benz , imagine Rolls Royce loose spirit of ecstasy.
You are right! If not all MB sedans, the S Class definitely should have the hood ornament. And an analogue clock on the dash, if I may add.
The AMG body styling this generation makes the best looking S class to date 🤯😱
This is probably the most beautiful car I've seen all year.

You can tell this man prepares his reviews properly. Great information dissemination
W222 63 AMG was peak S-class, looked slimmer/better and is the best choice for someone who wants a luxury and sport sedan
Looks incredibly classy with that paint, chrome trim, and wheels. And the interior. Holy moly.
As the owner of a 2011 Maybach 57s, I appreciate my hood ornament. For reference, my 57s is a V12 6.0 liter making 620hp with 738 lbs-ft of torque.

Great Review. So complicated, it seems to me it's a 3-yr lease and right back to MB! A rarity in today's world.
My thoughts and prayers to the people who own this in 10 - 15 years 🙏
@motomantv liking a comment about leasing. Have you been hacked?

The dash vents reflecting in the windshield is distracting.

The front of the S looks like a BMW F10 5 series that was launched in 2011 , once you see it you cant unsee it , BMW is killing it
the hood was deforming when you were slightly pressing the hood badge...
Beautiful machine
When you see it in person - in that color combo with the details like the wheels and the slight red trip, achingly beautiful.
Nice tank
I'm guessing this thing starts closer to $200K base
@14:12 doesnt the red signify the electric component??
That powertrain in a c63 will
Be a nuke
The S class is finally getting back to what to should be.
Absolutely no way that this thing is a penny less than $240,000 in the US. Just no way.
I would take this over any variation of the EQS, even they make an EQS 1000hp.. S class should have been designed as EV or PHEH like the 7 series.
Me too.
Just went through the configurator (Germany) and this thing is expensive. My admittedly loaded spec is at 285k €... Base is 208k
