Excellent video! Love how you explain things and tell "why" - I'm one of those "inquiring minds" types LOL Thorough and detailed. I'm a convert! thanks so much!
b. p)
Helpful! Thank you. I started to put Java Gel on a top and it looked horrible so I stopped. Now I see that I just had to keep going with more layers. I love the High Performance. I used Annie Sloan Old Ochre to paint a Rattan dining set. The soft wax just absorbed into the bamboo and didn't look good at all. I called the Stockist and she said just to put the High Performance over the wax. Now it looks great!
You're awesome! I've watched so many videos on refinishing furniture. You're so easy to watch! Thanks for all the tips!
I'm tackling my breakfast table this week while under GA state mandatory 'stay in place'.
I'll be sure to post before and after!
Really good instruction. I am new to this re-purposing and painting furniture and am so excited. This video gave me even more perspective.
You are so good in giving information every step I just love the way u were explaining very helpful I must say for beginners. I will definitely try something. Thank you for sharing this video
Omg! This is exactly info what I 've been looking for! I have this very similar side table that has been left when my husband and I moved to this house, I did considering getting rid of it and surprisely i didn't. Now I m so excited that I 'll give it a facelift that it's free furniture!
Thanks for sharing that idea!
Christina it’s lovely, the colours are modern and your easy to follow tutorials are fab. Doing up old furniture is a great hobby, especially when the piece is a good shape with character . Much better than boring new cheap furniture.
Thank you for such good information! I have never done any painting on a furniture before, except sponge painting my daughter’s bedroom years ago and I should say I was proud of myself after it was done! I recently bought a very old vanity set and wanted to paint it with annie sloan chalk paint. I just have to make a decision on what shade of white I will use😀 thank you again!!!
This is the best tutorial I have watched on using these products. Thank you!
So glad I found this video!
I was going to throw out an old, slightly damaged king size bed frame, but I think I'm going to give chalk paint a try on it.
It's solid wood and just really needs a new and fresh look.
Thanks for all the great info!!
Debbie Hahn if
Debbie Hahn that’s how I got into chalk paint! My room needed a change in colour so I used chalk paint and it was amazing! I haven’t left a room in the house that doesn’t have a piece I painted
OMG you should never throw out anything solid wood these days of cheap particleboard and veneer. Even if you don't like it somebody will. Donate it, don't let it go to a landfill
Bravo...to you !!!!
So how much paint you need for queen bed,and how much it cost, plz let me know I also wanna do that,...thx.
I just love doing over this table style. It’s so easy to modernize them and I find them in abundance in the thrift stores and generally for very cheap and in pretty great condition.
Christina! Thank you for posting this! I have the perfect end-table I'm going to try this on. It will be my first attempt!
I have that exact table that I've been wanting to paint but haven't because I couldn't figure out what color but I do now! Thanks for the help lol! It looks beautiful!
I have an oval version of it with a darker stain...I think it and my center coffee table are going to look much like this!
I have the same one too
I have this exact one and our family had the oval side table and oval coffee table too.
Kkmop
I have two of those as well, and after seeing this tutorial I'm going to rejuvenate my little old tables
I really love the technical detail you talk about and most especially the speeding up of footage. Very well made video - did not force me to yawn or fast forward lol. Thank you for the tips! Just subscribed ♥️
Thank you, Christina for showing me how to prep a piece of furniture and use chalk paint! Working on a large dresser and now I got it! Love your channel! Eric
So informative- Christina, I have painted furniture in the past years ago for fun, but never got the beautiful results as I only used regular 🎨 paint but with this information, I see how beautiful the results are when done right! The table looks 👍 ☺️‼️ I’m inspired to try this again 😂❤️💕
very nice video. Concise, straightforward, thorough, and simple to follow
LOVE IT!!!! The issue I had before was the paint would be sticky on the wood surface, looks like it all laid down nicely on this one. Haven’t messed with the gel stain/paint yet, I would love to learn how to do it, a lot of the exterior doors on houses are being prepped with that.
Chalk paint is never sticky afterward - latex can be, which has always been my experience with it and another reason I love chalk paint so much!
I have the exact end table, married into it, lol! Instead of replacing, I chose to refinish. It was near completion before watching this, I did near the exact paint, sealer and drawer pull, top white currently, so encouraging! I was unsure, my hubby is old fashioned, he'll have to learn to love the piece. Great video, very happy to find!
I love painted furniture .The table turned out beautiful.I like how you explain every step. Thank you.
Thank you! This was the most helpful chalk paint video I've come across yet. I'm redoing my kitchen table and 8 chairs using your method. So far, the table is looking fabulous. Can't wait to see the end result!! Thanks again! Keep up the good work!
How long to dry before using second coat for the paint and flat top coat ? I’m doing a head board the same color as the video.
I've watched many videos. This is excellent! I love the smooth finish. I'm a huge fan of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. It's just a quality product. I'm looking forward to watching your other videos.
FANTASTIC EFFORT CHRISTINA! The prep and paint job is tedious enough. But to film, edit and make it interesting to the viewer shows how good and passionate you are in what you do! Love your work!
Thank you for going back to basics. It helped me see you work in real time. I’m only on my second project and it feels like it takes me forever! I love your work. 💕
Lovely Job. I Love the Dark & Light Combination. Very Elegant Look. 🌹

Girl, you did that! Looks awesome.
Christina Muscari This is an excellent DIY video in which anyone can easily follow and make their own masterpiece. I'm with you...it feels wonderful taking a discarded, old, no longer loved, anything, but especially furniture, and make it new again! Often times, it comes out better than when brand new. The satisfaction is simply the best feeling. I'm going to watch ALL your posts! Thank you!!!!
Thanks you so much!
Nice job! Very clear communication and easy to follow. It went quickly, but contained a lot of good information. Thanks Christina.
I am completely mesmerized with the final product. Good Job!
Looks beautiful
Thanks Christina for motivating me to give upcycling a try.The final product I created using your guidance looks fabulous.
I loved the tutorial you gave us. The table really looked awesome. I'm from Brazil, and now I'll need to figure out what Brazilian materials I'll be needing to paint a kid's table.
I have an end table I’ve been wanting to paint and I think I’ll copy this exactly. Thanks!
Facebook
Thanks
end table came out nice thx 4 the lessons xoxoxo :-) :-)
Thank you, thank you for doing that piece. I have never painted before ad I have amend table just like the one in your video. You gave me the courage to try painting it.
Wow! Amazing! Thank you for taking the time to show us how to transform a piece of furniture!!!! A BIG thanks!!!
I’m remodeling my entire house thanks soo much for sharing I found so many techniques and tips.
I’ll be visiting Home Depot Walmart and amazon tonight online.
"Let your inner perfectionist, go" :) So many good tips through-out.
You have to step back from the piece sometimes or you will drive yourself crazy. 😂
OMGosh, when you said that I said “I don’t know if I can!” 😁
😠😠I have started many projects in my head however because of my long time battle with my inner perfectionist I haven't completed anything in a long time. But this piece has inspired me enough to muzzle her (the Perfectionist) mouth & just get it done!😜. Thanks!
Yeah that line got me too, I thought 😳 She can hear me loool
Christina Muscari I’m new to this, so forgive me if this question sounds ignorant. But, can you also use a foam brush to apply the chalk paint, as no bristles, no worry about brush marks?
Great video! I have this same exact table i am working on right now! Going to try this with the poly. I have only ever used wax before.
Your tutorial was so informative! I think I can do this by watching your totorial. Beautiful piece of furniture you created!!!
Christina, great instructional video! I've watched several techniques on other videos and am now thoroughly confused. I have a baker's rack that I want to change up to match my kitchen table. It is a darker wood, not sure what kind of wood but is it best to sand then paint or simply paint over dark wood?
Nice quick to the point video. Thanks for speeding up. I never knew to spray my brush before painting! I am a little intimidated by the staining. I never seem to get it right! I do like the light with the dark!
Can’t wait to try these techniques. This should make things so much better. Thank you Christina!
,I bought an old maufatured house - thinking about using this product on the kitchen cabinets. Thank you so informative.
Just a thought for those of us who don't like all of those joint lines where the pieces John together! Fill in the joint lines with paintable wood filler and then paint the piece. It looks pretty darn nice w/o all the cut lines!
Thank for watching! I just posted a new video doing this type of look on a pedestal table using a water based stain from General Finishes. Check it out! ua-cam.com/video/9EOTLQIn9AA/v-deo.html
Hello Christina, very well explained video tutorial! have a question for you, I can see that you are using oil based stain and then applying water based polyurethane, ¿is this combination gonna work? I understand that oil and water products are not compatible, have you seen bubbles or something weird? Greetings from Mexico!!
Wow, Mexico! Thanks for watching. You can use a water based top coat on a oil based stain as long as it is completely dry. I waited 72 hours before I applied it according to the manufacturer's specs. They also have great waterbased stains that do the same thing if you don't want to wait that long to coat it.
@@ChristinaMuscari Thanks for the info!! Saludos!!
Hi Christina! I love tutorial, question for you. Do I need to wax The chalk paint and the stain? This will be my first project and I'm new to all of this. Thank you ❤
I’m looking for my first project. Looking for cheap of course. Does it need to be a piece that has never been refinished or painted?
Very helpful! I appreciate all those specific instructions & demo.
The transformation was amazing!
Honestly these are two colors I never would have thought of but boy did they turn out BEAUTIFUL!!
Very Nice Christina!!
Love it. I'm thinking of starting a small business beside my regular job for more income and I like to do this kind of stuff so thanks for this x
Just wanted to encourage you, go for it!
I loved the DIY chalk paint for beginners. The table looked amazing and I want to do this one with a table I already have to go in my bedroom.. thanks...
This is so great. Been looking for white bedroom furniture for ages, I am now ready to begin ... wish me luck! Thanks
Great illustration, thanks for sharing 🤗💕
Omg! You explained everything so good that it looks so easy to do! Love it!
Wow, I've really enjoyed seeing you tackle this, taking all the 'mystery' away! Hopefully, I can achieve something like this ...
Christina, thank you so much for this beginners tutorial. I have done a lot of furniture painting but not with chalk paint before. I love the top stain.
Awesome! Thanks for stopping by.
Christina, Awesome job. I am in my Den right now and I am looking at this piece of furniture that I am going to redo over. Hubby likes basic wood furniture, but that is going to change asap (it is a old piece anyways). I also like how you explain yourself, I watched one video of someone else in your age group and I had to literally change it, I don't think that person had to use the F word a lot to get her point across, Call me old fashion.
Keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing
Tanya Hill my hubby is getting used to painted furniture. All the brown this, brown that is so masculine, and boring.
My only advice would be to use a really good Purdy brush for the chalk paint. I wash all my new brushes in clean water to get out the dust before use. This way you can avoid those hairs and if you see any as you paint you can lit them out straight away. Nice job though.
Starting a project soon. Ordered almost everything from your list. I hope I get it done well.
Thank you so much for your very thorough instructions. I love how you explain things and the finished product!
Awesome! I have 2 of these tables that I literally bought 39 years and 4 moves ago. They are very sturdy, well built, but have some blems and I have been tired of "the look" for a while. Now I can renew them and get another 39?! :D
I have two of those tables, a coffee table and matching wall unit. I can't bring myself to paint them. I bought a coffee table on Craigslist to plant instead. I turned it over to look at how well it was made. It's an Ethan Allen! I can't bring myself to paint that either!
Oh, please don't paint good furniture. The painted look will go out of style. In fact, many people have never been on board with this look. I have a 130 plus year-old cherry wood bed frame. I brought it to an antique reseller in town and she wanted to paint it and distress it to make it "saleable." I wouldn't let her have it. Why anyone would ruin the original finish of an antique in fantastic condition is beyond my comprehension.
Painted furniture is for the one or two pieces in a house that are not up to par with the rest of the decor. Or it is for someone starting out without any good pieces.
Not everyone is into the “painted wood” look. I agree wood can be so beautiful that it would be a shame to paint, however... if you like the farm house/ shabby chic look, painted wood furniture is almost necessarily to achieve that look.

Thanks for sharing this, I am redoing my whole dinning rm & have this yellow omg yes I said yellow lol desk & desperately need 2 make it more modern. I found ur channel today. Excited to see more. This helps so much thanks again for sharing.
What a beautiful transformation. You took a lot of steps to get there but they really paid off. So classy. Great job 👍🏻
You have explained everything very well thank you for that I love it
Great tutorial! Thank you for sharing!
I love how you don't take forever. Learned a lot here as a newbie. Thank you very much.
Wow. I didn't realize the work that went into painting. I have a table like this but just painted it white & black. Looks like this... Love this table...
I'm new and when you said to start with a small project, I start laughing because I'm trying to paint my dinning set. Thank you for charing all this information.
Claudia Martinez same lol
I am trying to do all of my furniture. I wish I had watched this video before selling an old dresser.
Same thing, I want to do my dining set lol. Will have to find something free on craiglist haha
Me too. I am actually looking at my dining table and thinking "hmm so which little bit of furniture am I going to sacrifice? "
ha ha haha.. I guess you go by the motto: "Go big or go home"
omg beautiful
What a beautiful job! Right on, and thank you so much for sharing your great technique’s, talent’s for color and design.
I was interested in chalk painting my end tables to give them a new look. After watching this informative video I'm going to give it a try. Thank you!
Facebook
It turned out beautiful! I'm thinking your neighbor wants her side table back 😉
I was thinking the same thing :)
Great video.
The instructions were clear and easy to understand.
Now that was very cool to watch. My inner creative self started kicking in with other colors for a table like this. Thank you for waking my creativity
Thank you very much, Christina! I painted a dresser using your “pretty distressed” guide. I even think I developed some technique throughout my first painting project! This tutorial video of yours helped me get this done. Thank you very much once again. Stay safe throughout the virus pandemic...I hope folks learn from your tutorials for their DIY projects. Spending so much more time at home, I sense your tutorial videos will come very handy.
Thank you, Jay!
Hello Beautiful 😄
I had to subscribe! Beautiful transformation. You are so informative. You are a ray of sunshine to those of us who are beginning and not sure what to use or how. You not only show what you are doing but listing the products is refreshing and appreciated. I have been wanting to do something like this with my bedroom furniture but I was not sure how. Thank you for sharing. BTW, If you are bored you can come on over and help. This way I'm sure it will turn out perfectly! LOL😂
I've learned about and tried a product called Krud Kutter that is a non-toxic biodegradable cleaner with no fumes. I definitely believe in using earth friendly products. Also oil based stained is super toxic. I watched a vid where they used a wood colored chaulk paint diluted with water to use as a stain and it was amazing. Again, toxic free is always a better option especially indoors.
Omg! I have 2 exact tables like that. I don’t know what to do with them. Thank goodness you said start small. Ahha! I’m so new at this. So I hope it works good on my end tables. Thaaank you!
You do an excellent job of explaining and demonstrating. Enjoyed very much.
The table looks great. The previous finish wasn’t removed however, so your actually applying a stain over top an old finish. The point to staining wood is to see some wood grain. This side table looks to have a veneer top so removing the finish to raw wood takes a delicate touch if using a orbital. You’d be better off painting the top black and putting a finish coat on.
I love using gel stain and chalk paint, great tutorial! :)
What is the difference between gel stain and regular stain ? Does gel stain NOT need a coat of poly like regular stain does ?
I could not believe how awesome it turned out!!
This is great! I'm so glad I stumbled upon this video. I have two wood end tables that are old and stripping with kids' scribbles on them. I had thought about throwing them out, but they're still structurally in good condition. I like the dark top and white bottom combo you did with this piece. I'm definitely going to try it out on my set. Thanks for the tutorial! :)
Going to give it a go WILL BE MY 1st time.
I just know you were talking to me when you said to let my inner perfectionist go😂 I would totally stress out over the random hairs in it lol
I would lightly sand them down, not a perfectionist but getting there, lol x
Hi! Beginner! First time painting. Starting my project next week. This is super helpful. Thanks
Thank you for a beginner video. I have a small stockpile of furniture I want to refinish! Thanks for the inspiration ❤️
Try having two dogs & being a perfectionist. There's always a stray hair I'm trying to corral. Oh, well, adds to the character of the piece. Great video!
Sandra Levy oh I know! Yesterday I did some drawers on the tv cabinet I am painting....lots of lovely kitty hair and fuzz...oh well, it’s an imperfect life!
Sandra Levy have you ever quick held a flame to the hair?
I am getting 100 bedroom end table dressers and 27 wooden restaurant style round tables from a nursing home that is remodeling and I want to redo them and sell them. Your video was very help full. I have never done anything like that and I hope its doable Thanks any recomendations I would appreciate it Walt
Walter have u done any of the dresser tables yet?If so how did they turn out? Thanks
That sounds like a dream & a lot of work! It will be fun, let us know how it turns out!
Loved it! I haven’t refinished anything yet, but have a bunch of projects lined up. You are so talented & are a great teacher! Thanks so much for this very detailed step by step tutorial- just what I needed!! Cherie🤓🏝
Great presentation. I'm going to use this when I do a van conversion. Thanks.
Nice video now i will try with my little table
I’ve been painting professionally for 2 years now and I still haven’t gotten my hands on any Annie Sloan 😮 great tips!
Thank you for the video. It was quick and not long and chatty as many other of the videos are but you take the time to give great beginner tips! I'll be trying this soon on a side table I bought at a garage sale!
Love IT....VERY SIMPLE TO FOLLOW ANDVYOU HAVE AN EASY VOICE TO LISTEN TO
why gell stain instead of painting it black and top coat clear? what does the stain do that the painting doesn't if you're still not seeing the grain?
In the pics you can't see the grain, but in person you can. It's slightly opaque. You could certainly paint it black if you prefer.
I have been wanting to do my side tables and I never find a tutorial clear enough to help me get started. Definitely going to use this as a guide
I love your tutorials Christina. I’m going to try this one out I just got myself an old cabinet similar to yours and I think it will look very nice in the black and white. A while ago I did a dresser and a bed side table in the 3 in one paint and they turned out amazing. Thanks for all your hard work in putting these together for us beginners!
Good luck! Thanks for watching.
please what does chalk paint mean? i haven't done anything over in along time so i don't know these new products 20yrs ago all we had was michaels or home depot not much selection like now i live in a small flat that's why thank u
It’s just a type of furniture paint with little prep. Go check out Unfolded.com for all the details.
Thanks for asking this. I was gonna ask the same. I am very new to this!
It’s paint that you can use on furniture without having to do ANY sanding at all!!! You can also use it to paint fabric 😊
