    Helpful! Thank you. I started to put Java Gel on a top and it looked horrible so I stopped. Now I see that I just had to keep going with more layers. I love the High Performance. I used Annie Sloan Old Ochre to paint a Rattan dining set. The soft wax just absorbed into the bamboo and didn't look good at all. I called the Stockist and she said just to put the High Performance over the wax. Now it looks great!

    Christina it’s lovely, the colours are modern and your easy to follow tutorials are fab. Doing up old furniture is a great hobby, especially when the piece is a good shape with character . Much better than boring new cheap furniture.

    Thank you for such good information! I have never done any painting on a furniture before, except sponge painting my daughter’s bedroom years ago and I should say I was proud of myself after it was done! I recently bought a very old vanity set and wanted to paint it with annie sloan chalk paint. I just have to make a decision on what shade of white I will use😀 thank you again!!!

    So glad I found this video!
    I was going to throw out an old, slightly damaged king size bed frame, but I think I'm going to give chalk paint a try on it.
    It's solid wood and just really needs a new and fresh look.

    LOVE IT!!!! The issue I had before was the paint would be sticky on the wood surface, looks like it all laid down nicely on this one. Haven’t messed with the gel stain/paint yet, I would love to learn how to do it, a lot of the exterior doors on houses are being prepped with that.

      Hello Christina, very well explained video tutorial! have a question for you, I can see that you are using oil based stain and then applying water based polyurethane, ¿is this combination gonna work? I understand that oil and water products are not compatible, have you seen bubbles or something weird? Greetings from Mexico!!

    • @ChristinaMuscari
      @ChristinaMuscari  4 роки тому +1

      Wow, Mexico! Thanks for watching. You can use a water based top coat on a oil based stain as long as it is completely dry. I waited 72 hours before I applied it according to the manufacturer's specs. They also have great waterbased stains that do the same thing if you don't want to wait that long to coat it.

Hubby likes basic wood furniture, but that is going to change asap (it is a old piece anyways). I also like how you explain yourself, I watched one video of someone else in your age group and I had to literally change it, I don't think that person had to use the F word a lot to get her point across, Call me old fashion.

    My only advice would be to use a really good Purdy brush for the chalk paint. I wash all my new brushes in clean water to get out the dust before use. This way you can avoid those hairs and if you see any as you paint you can lit them out straight away. Nice job though.

    • @wildtame3823
      @wildtame3823 4 роки тому +10

      Oh, please don't paint good furniture. The painted look will go out of style. In fact, many people have never been on board with this look. I have a 130 plus year-old cherry wood bed frame. I brought it to an antique reseller in town and she wanted to paint it and distress it to make it "saleable." I wouldn't let her have it. Why anyone would ruin the original finish of an antique in fantastic condition is beyond my comprehension.
      Painted furniture is for the one or two pieces in a house that are not up to par with the rest of the decor. Or it is for someone starting out without any good pieces.

    • @cariemccart9241
      @cariemccart9241 3 роки тому +3

      Not everyone is into the “painted wood” look. I agree wood can be so beautiful that it would be a shame to paint, however... if you like the farm house/ shabby chic look, painted wood furniture is almost necessarily to achieve that look.

    Thank you very much, Christina! I painted a dresser using your “pretty distressed” guide. I even think I developed some technique throughout my first painting project! This tutorial video of yours helped me get this done. Thank you very much once again. Stay safe throughout the virus pandemic...I hope folks learn from your tutorials for their DIY projects. Spending so much more time at home, I sense your tutorial videos will come very handy.

    Hello Beautiful 😄
    I had to subscribe! Beautiful transformation. You are so informative. You are a ray of sunshine to those of us who are beginning and not sure what to use or how. You not only show what you are doing but listing the products is refreshing and appreciated. I have been wanting to do something like this with my bedroom furniture but I was not sure how. Thank you for sharing. BTW, If you are bored you can come on over and help. This way I'm sure it will turn out perfectly! LOL😂

    I've learned about and tried a product called Krud Kutter that is a non-toxic biodegradable cleaner with no fumes. I definitely believe in using earth friendly products. Also oil based stained is super toxic. I watched a vid where they used a wood colored chaulk paint diluted with water to use as a stain and it was amazing. Again, toxic free is always a better option especially indoors.

    Omg! I have 2 exact tables like that. I don’t know what to do with them. Thank goodness you said start small. Ahha! I’m so new at this. So I hope it works good on my end tables. Thaaank you!

    The table looks great. The previous finish wasn’t removed however, so your actually applying a stain over top an old finish. The point to staining wood is to see some wood grain. This side table looks to have a veneer top so removing the finish to raw wood takes a delicate touch if using a orbital. You’d be better off painting the top black and putting a finish coat on.

      What is the difference between gel stain and regular stain ? Does gel stain NOT need a coat of poly like regular stain does ?

    This is great! I'm so glad I stumbled upon this video. I have two wood end tables that are old and stripping with kids' scribbles on them. I had thought about throwing them out, but they're still structurally in good condition. I like the dark top and white bottom combo you did with this piece. I'm definitely going to try it out on my set. Thanks for the tutorial! :)

    Try having two dogs & being a perfectionist. There's always a stray hair I'm trying to corral. Oh, well, adds to the character of the piece. Great video!

    why gell stain instead of painting it black and top coat clear? what does the stain do that the painting doesn't if you're still not seeing the grain?

    • @ChristinaMuscari
      @ChristinaMuscari  5 років тому

      In the pics you can't see the grain, but in person you can. It's slightly opaque. You could certainly paint it black if you prefer.

    I love your tutorials Christina. I’m going to try this one out I just got myself an old cabinet similar to yours and I think it will look very nice in the black and white. A while ago I did a dresser and a bed side table in the 3 in one paint and they turned out amazing. Thanks for all your hard work in putting these together for us beginners!

      It’s paint that you can use on furniture without having to do ANY sanding at all!!! You can also use it to paint fabric 😊
