As many have answered in the comments, the piece Andrew found was a Civil War cartridge plate. It would have been attached to a cartridge box. Despite all the detecting he has done on private property in Gettysburg, he has never found one. It's been at the top of his metal detecting bucket list for a very long time. It's not incredibly valuable, just rich in history--which is something he is passionate about. I apologize for not including any context. I made detecting videos for so long that I just assumed everyone would know what it is. That was my fault. I hope you still enjoyed the video and the excitement.

Joselyn, I have watched you from the start and watch many other metal detectorist and knew what Andrew found when he lifted it up! Just seeing the shock on his face was priceless. I knew he found a bucket listed for sure! I was so glad I got to see that on the video. So Andrew, congratulations on your plate!!! The silver bracelet was just the icing on the cake buddy!! I’m telling you, if you can watch the excitement and joy Drew had in finding that plate and not jump up and down, you’re not normal. I don’t even understand the significance but I was tearing up at the emotion. That was an AWESOME moment. ♥️

Not sure if anyone has posted, but those miniature hats in boxes were used as gift certificates from a hat store. I remember my grandfather receiving one as a gift to go back and return for fitting after Christmas.

He's going to be able to build a mansion on that land with the finds in that house. Most investors would probably have just bulldozed it and everything would have ended up in a landfill.
Bleeping awesome finds! Andrew was at a complete loss of words! Can we see a closeup of the plate he found? The jewelry is amazing, I’d love to go digging like that! However I would’ve opened up the box of matches to make sure it was only matches in there - hiding places everywhere!
Great minds think alike - I was thinking how likely it would be for jewelry to be hidden in a small box like that.

It broke my heart see the martini decorative glass thrown out but what great finds‼️
It is SO heartbreaking , whoever lived here had incredible taste- but lived in complete squaller. It seems like there was never an opportunity to enjoy the “beauty “ of all the things until now.
I think there are two periods of the person's life, the devolution came after a dramatic life event or events, that took them to this hopelessness. It came after the life where their precious things were loved and valued, in a life that provided a context for it all. When you lose who you were from whatever cause , you lose, often gradually, everything else that defined you as well. Existing among the ruins of your past life where meaning resonated is one of, if not the most, deeply painful things. It's like your context dies first, and you, in despair, follow. Sorry. This may be too deep a dive, but I felt the invisible broken human being in everything they touched.

That U.S.Plate is on Andrews bucket list of things to find while metal detecting. He's always searching for Civil War Memorabilia so it must be a U.S. Civil War Plate ..metal (usually brass) emblem with the letters U.S. embossed on it. They used them on hats, uniforms, as belt buckles, on ammo boxes (Andrew did say it was a box plate) and many, many other items....Atleast that's how I'm interpreting it. 🤷♀️😁
I think it would be so awesome if guests were to give that US plate too it's plate 2 Andrew. They're not worth that much money. And what a nice token it would be for Andrew to have

@@Kathygaylepaulsen The heck they ain't worth that much. A good box plate like that can go for two or three hundred bucks on eBay. And knowing as much as I do about Andrew and Jocelyn's ethics, I'd bet at least half a dollar they paid Gus for it.

A day of great treasure for everyone. Some amazing finds. I'm always sad at these hoarder houses because the people who owned it all either died without family to pass it on to, or the they loose it to taxes or hard times. I mean it all looks like treasure, but the treasure is maybe like the cameo, something passed down from
Grandmother to Mother to daughter to Granddaughter, etc. And it ends up here, where we think it's neat and all, but has no meaning other than it might be worth money. Congratulations to Andrew for the cool find. I wonder what else will be found out in that old yard.
