The silver safari tea pot set is absolutely exquisite. The house owners had supremely exquisite taste overall. What is a gift to these items is that they are being rescued by people who value even the smallest item. Thank you for giving us a window into this treasure trove.
Just remember that fabric can be mended with pieces of the dress where it can be taken from underneath and then patched with something else…also quilts can be picked apart and repaired into smaller throws or pillow covers…backing with other fabric for strength…save it all if you can, there are very talented restoration people out there…❤️from Minnesota 🍁
So true. I washed and destroyed a quilt my husbands grandmother made him. I didn’t know. I turned it into a stuffed bear. I was sick at heart, luckily he is the forgiving kind of guy You can also salvage a square and frame them. They are also very popular to have
This backs up my theory that they had some sort of overseas connection. Like they had diplomatic or airline work. But not CEO because they’ve had more money to not have ended up in that house that way. You don’t get those kind of things at Macys in any era! You know, if you love a high quality vintage item such as that black cat, please consider looking into a well skilled repairer. We become the items’ “caretakers” at some point. These beautiful things! They deserved to be fixed and loved again and their long gone artisans appreciated for their craft. If you intend to sell, and if a near invisible repair is disclosed I don’t think from a buyers standpoint it would necessarily need to be discounted. Especially if it’s rare or has other qualities of beauty or artistry. Thanks so much for sharing the adventure!!! 💕😎
I would try and sell all the vintage clothing on Depop, they specialize in older vintage clothes. People pay big bucks for all the retro stuff. Great treasures & great fun. All four of you are just as Fabulous as all your finds🧡
I really enjoyed watching you Jocelyn and Andrew find beautiful things in the horder house!!! To have the knowledge between the two of you is just something else!!! To be part of this and to help Gus and Nina out has got to be an honor!!! Please tell Gus "Thank you" for bringing you into this and letting us all see these wonderful treasures!!!!!!
My mom has my GGM's quilt she made in the 1800s and it's still in good shape. She doesn't use it, but could. My mom's aunt inherited it in the mid 1960s. She put it inside a silk pillow case and stored it in a cedar chest until she handed it down to Mom, who keeps it in the same pillow case and inside an armoire with cedar blocks. Mom's aunt said the silk keeps dust (and mites) away and dark storage keeps light out. Both promote dry rot. The cedar blocks keep moths away. My grandparents grew up in the Great Depression, in the Appalachias, every one of them both sides. Quilts are sacred to us. Back then quilts were even more important than some of the furniture. My grandmother told me she was pregnant with #4 when their house burned down in the middle of the night. She said they barely got out, and she could only grab one quilt with the youngest child wrapped in it...and she had two pre-school bed wetters and a new baby OTW, so her quilts were all she could think about losing and couldn't stop crying. I went long, and I apologize if I bored you,, but the CLL seems to have such a special genuine love and respect for even the remnants of those old quilts, their craftsmanship and their "stories". I appreciate that so much. And her friend also gets it. BTW I really dig that whale tooth bird. ✌
I put fabric softener sheets and/or bath bombs into clothing boxes because it deters bugs. I’m delighted these clothes survived. Buying clothes in Hawaii are very very expensive if they’re of any quality I wasn’t bored. I love to learn about things other people did to keep their things I like history very much. Thanks for sharing that. I’m sorry she lost her quilts. They didn’t have much and that would have been hard on top of everything else. “Christy” is one of my favorite books
@@dittohead7044 You may enjoy the YT channel Celebrating Appalachia. There are other Appy content channels, but this is the most genuine IMO. I also enjoy her daughter's "rock" channel. Yep...rocks can be amazing too.
You have some amazing friends loved that they shared with us on what they found, glasses, clothes, tea pots etc, thank you, love this adventure you guys,
I make reproduction and restore and repair vintage and antique clothing and textiles for a living. Pretty much anything there can be restored. How wonderful!!
What lovely people Nina and Gus are! I love the Psychedelic underwear LOL! I must say I have never seen psychedelic underwear before and I've been around awhile.
Hello from Idaho- just for a heads up listen to your video audio sound I kept looking behind me while watching this I’m all by myself tonight and it’s dark outside and dark in the house and I kept looking to the side of me or to the back of me thinking there was somebody walking the floor because it was creaking till I discovered it was coming from the soundtrack so I thought this whole thing was haunted adds a little interesting touch don’t you think?💀
Do not send those vintage clothes to Thredup--you won't get decent money for them. The underwear alone would net you probably $25-35 dollars each if sold separately. Please, please don't send them to Thredup. I don't even know if they take vintage clothing.
Please spot test before fulling soaking in oxiclean. Old textiles don't alway do well when using something like that. Also find a vintage quilters group for the quilt. They should be able to tell you what to do to stabilize the quilt so you can salvage a block or two.
I might try soaking the bedspread in lemon juice in the bathtub for a bit and then hanging it in the sun. Might help and a lot less harsh than many modern cleaners.
Now we get to see the rewards for all the hard work that you’ve done ,it takes a special person to be able to withstand the ugliness of a hoarder house and uncover items under animal feces and take them home and wash them up and make them your own , I commend you all
I have LOVED this whole 'series' from A to..... still happening. This 'series' idea suits you more than anything I've seen you do. You are a STAR, Joc! I mean it. And for whatever reason, the chemistry between both couples on this series is AMAZING! Like mashed potatoes and gravy. I LOVE IT! Keep up the good work. Really enjoyed seeing the things! Such beautiful stuff!! Hope someone can maximize the salvage efforts of that hand stitched quilt! All the beautiful fabrics! Thank you for sharing!!💚💚💚
Tell Nina to be careful with ThredUP, I don’t know that they will appreciate her vintage finds. unless things have changed, they don’t return what they don’t take. I used to work there. She should see if there are any vintage consignment shops around.
I agree! I do a lot of reselling, and ThredUP is a huge no no! You definitely won’t get the what the stuff is worth, and it sucks that they keep the stuff. Last I tried, you can get them back, but you have to pay ThredUP to send it back to you.
I enjoy Gus and Nina. They seem like the perfect couple to take this project on. It's really dirty work, but the excitement of finding a treasure is a reward. The red and white quilt. Quilters will actually take it apart totally and use the good pieces where there is damage. Yes, it will be smaller but it is so pretty it would be worth it.
You have amazingly generous friends! People who give you the opportunity to join their adventure. The treasures coming from the house are stunning but the friendship is really beautiful to be part of. Best to all of you!😊
Wow what some beautiful things they have found! I’m so pleased that Nina is keeping some of the clothes! Please tell her not to send them to thread up as she will get a fraction of what they are worth! Try and find a vintage clothes seller and cut a deal!
I did not want to get hooked but this series has done me in. I love watching the treasures you are unearthing. Just a dream of mine to find a abandoned place with treasures most people overlook. I am not even big into clothes but those bird pants are awesome! I have a love for birds have photographed them for years though my lifelong chronic illness has made it difficult and now mostly homebound ... well I am grateful for these videos. Just curious what size the bird pants at 17:12 are ... the chenille is so beautiful as well, I would love something like that especially the peacock! what an awesome find! they do have a special sanitizer for the wash it goes in the rinse cycle.
Black Starr and Frost was considered to be America's first jewelry store and was located in New York on Madison Avenue. They were purveyors of fine jewelry and housewares. Chiclids are very territorial. They will unplant an aquarium overnight looking for a rock to call their own. Chiclids are not native to the US. Please do set it free in a pond, but do return it to an aquarium store. These fish can reach a foot in length and will eat anything that will fit in its mouth. That Raku is going to tip the till around 300 dollars, give or take. And still no Godzilla. What is the reason for living?
