I love working on old 2 stroke outboards, not a Merc/Mariner expert by any means (Yamaha is more my style) A few pointers: - Check if a 20A fuse is the right size, old owner may have used the wrong fuse. otherwise its a wiring issue (yikes) - Might also pay to remove the sparkplugs, dilute some 2 stroke oil or ATF with petrol 50/50 mix, spray it in there, let is soak then turn the motor over with the plugs removed. You don't know what kind of crap/debris is in the bore. - If its been sitting for a while, check the condition of the impeller. If its perished or brittle, it may disintegrate and end up in the water galleries in the block. this may cook your motor. - I would also run premix oil in the fuel until you are sure the Oil injection is working. Have fun mate, outboards are way easier to work on than most people think. Just be patient with rusty/corroded bolts haha.
👍👍👍 looks to be not a dead short as it’s not blowing as soon as the key is turned on I reckon seized fuel pump I had similar issue with a merc 60hp 4stroke
You’ll get it mate! Each of those fuses is for a particular motor function. One will be start, one will be trim/tilt, etc. See if you’ve got up and down on the switch on the side of the motor. That’ll confirm power to motor is ok
I’m no expert skid, but if fuse blows as soon as you turn ignition on, check the wiring between ignition and starter. Could possibly just be wiring at ignition switch. Could also be wiring to battery. That birds nest in battery compartment looked funky. An in-line fuse before motor may help
Not sure about the electrical trouble but i know i had a similar motor and you will have to clean the entire fuel system mostly the vst issues in that are common as it holds a lot of fuel stored and the high pressure pump inside can fail going to injectors. Also the low pressure pump at the back sometimes if diaphram is sad will not supply enough fuel to vst another fun issue haha
That fuse has been replaced obviously but was it replaced with the correct size fuse? I believe some of those fuses can be as much as 50 amps. Might be worth finding out what size fuse should be used before checking anything else.
I had same issue end up being I had the wires around the wrong way on battery. When there both black cables its hard to kno what is whitch . Just follow em if ya gotta.
Is the solenoid on the starter or separate ? With the battery disconnected , use a multi meter to look for a short to earth anywhere from a + terminal on the starter and solenoid . Consider removing the starter and testing directly from a battery .
Lol. paused at 12:36 to bet that you will/did try a 30+ amp fuse. (EDIT) Bugger. You should have checked your car fuse box for a spare 50 amp fuse Skid. 😊
If diode is blown it will blow fuses as soon as ignition is turned on. Motor Marine doesnt have any and neither does J&B Marine in Ingham. Could Try NQ outboard wreckers for a second hand one
Step1 buy lots of fuses Step2 unplug fuel pump, try again Step3 if required unplug starter solenoid, try again Step4 find out what that fuse does and what size if should actually be
Follow the wires of the blown fuse and look for rubbing or broken wire's , You'd be surprised what some vibrations will do to a wiring harness Skid . You can test the wires with a Multi meter but that sounds beyond your knowledge (no offence mate) so I wont go into detail's . I'd also get hold of a compression tester and test it too , If there's more than 15% loss between cylinder's it might be Fked . When you test the compression make sure you put the throttle wide open because it can distort results mate . Good luck it look like a good project .

Oh and because it has st for a while take the plugs out and drip some marine 2st oil in there to lubricate things before ya spin it over
Well mate I know about as much as you do if goes Brrrrr it’s good 😊if it goes Br it’s broken 😞 that’s why I love boat mechanics 😂😂😂 Looking to next one 👍👍 Also you learnt to drive that big boat onto the trailer so how hard can this be 😂😂😂 Cheers Wombat 🐾🧑🔧👩🔧🧰
Definitely petrol on the poly. Poly may not be the best choice. Maybe a solvent proof non absorbent alternative expanding foam? Otherwise just patch with expanding foam of any type

Fuel pump seized, just a guess, but test it with the multimeter

I released a part 2
Very handy bit of info about the fuses
For sure
You’ll get it mate!

Loved the battery work. Been there....
Great vid mate, I’m fairly confident you will get it going 👍 with plenty of GRIT and determination
And a box of fuses. hahaha. Go bigger
Gotta be one of my favourite UA-cam channels!! Awesome!! 👍🍻
Cheers mate, glad you’re enjoying the content! 👍

I know nothing about boats or fishing. I’m just here to hang out 👍
🤣🤣

Know ya been in Townsville to long when ya start sniffing fuel 😂😂😂😂 love ya work skid nice vid
Yeah it's a hard habit to break! 😂
@SkidPig haha 🤣 was it the good sniff bitta premium or just cheap and nasty E10 haha 😂😂😂
She'll go mate. Cmon
That fuse has been replaced obviously but was it replaced with the correct size fuse? I believe some of those fuses can be as much as 50 amps. Might be worth finding out what size fuse should be used before checking anything else.
The amper was correct on fuses... 20a to fuel pump, 20a to trim, 5a to computer
She will run mate!!!!
Put a nail in the fuse hole, turn on IGN, watch to see where the blue smoke escapes from, then drink BEER🍻 Cheers Mate.
😂
I had same issue end up being I had the wires around the wrong way on battery. When there both black cables its hard to kno what is whitch . Just follow em if ya gotta.
It will run Skid
It will run !!!
You can do this 👍🏾🇦🇺
Is the solenoid on the starter or separate ? With the battery disconnected , use a multi meter to look for a short to earth anywhere from a + terminal on the starter and solenoid . Consider removing the starter and testing directly from a battery .

Ken oath looking forward to this
Start at the beginning, power to ignition, then to fuel pump and boat starter. Enjoy the videos
Clean all the connection, and check for a bad earth, there's a short in the wiring somewhere
It should run but i would replace the impeller so as to not melt the motor like i did recently good luck with it
Fuel pump is shorted out,,, replace ,,, simple test unplug Fuel pump to see if fuse holds...
If diode is blown it will blow fuses as soon as ignition is turned on. Motor Marine doesnt have any and neither does J&B Marine in Ingham. Could Try NQ outboard wreckers for a second hand one
Got one from coastal marine and outdoors in innisfail 🤙
Did it fix the issue?
Step1 buy lots of fuses
Step2 unplug fuel pump, try again
Step3 if required unplug starter solenoid, try again
Step4 find out what that fuse does and what size if should actually be
🤙
Mate told me once if it’s old mercury outboard and it hasn’t run for a while they make a good anchor
Even if they’re running well they’ve got no problem becoming an anchor wherever they want.
Fuel pump

Cheers Wombat 🐾🧑🔧👩🔧🧰
we had the same thing happen and it ended up being a bad wire connection that had vibrated loose which was found and fixed by a marine mechanic.
replace or repair ignition switch. dead short. probably corrosion.
The starter is where I would possibly look;. Does the inside of the fuse cover tell you what the fuse should be?
No it doesn't
Definitely petrol on the poly. Poly may not be the best choice. Maybe a solvent proof non absorbent alternative expanding foam? Otherwise just patch with expanding foam of any type
Cheers, good tip mate! 👍
Check the coils if there swollen replace them
Get the dog 👍
Starter motor take the wires of then try
Skid do you have rabbit ears to put on motor to run water through it. If not get some so you don't run it dry. Good luck
Faulty starter relay bud
Wrong size fuse or starter motor / circuit. It will run mate. Cheers
Bad ground on starter
goin off the condition of the floor i'd be checking for broken corroded wires causing a short. Out with a multimeter
Check out part 2 mate
Fuel pump seized, remove
The fuel pump
From the vapour separator tank and you
May be able to free it up. Pretty common if it’s sat for a some years.
Its spark, fuel and compression is what you need to check.
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Faulty wire in there somewhere brother do my dumb ass trick hold the wiring in diffrent spots get someone else to turn the key wait to get booted lol
Bloke, what's going on with the troopie build?
The engine blew up, its getting an LS
Might need to check the starter for a short. You need a friend with a multimeter and knowledge of electrickery
Filled the tank through a rod holder,,,Been done many times. Easy mistake to make on a long drive.
😂
dead short in the starter
I had to piss 3 times in the first 5 minutes from pumping that fuel lol
😂

Put premium fuel through it and she'll fire up
Wouldn’t the easiest thing to do is just try and start it?
better chang the thermostat it will be fuckt for shoer
if it starts dont run it long till the tnermostat is changd
Waiting with anticipation as a mad fishermen but shit boat mechanic. Cheers and best of luck
Gotta be bad wiring earthing somewhere
Unplug the charge regulator and try again
Super cheap auto fuses 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The problem is its not a Yamaha 😂😂
Get a job
Who cares
Thousands of people, thanks for watching 😂
