Love when Greg plays with the big black Peter
That truck is sick!!! I love it seeing an hearing run thru gears music to my ears good job on were it came from🤙🏽
When you’re empty, don’t waste time splitting all the high end till you get to the last gear. Drive it like a 9 double over.
That's what I did with a 13 speed pulling a tanker. Empty, there was no splitting gears.
Mastering the downshifting and, up shifting with the splitting is one of the funnest, greatest thing I have ever learned in trucking, and only in a pete.
Greg, you can shift the 18 speed like an 8 speed if you want. If you want to split the gears to get all 18, just remember that the pause you take is shorter when you are splitting. For example, when you are up-shifting, normally you would pause for a half second in between gears for the RPMs to drop before you shift up. If you split from a high gear to low gear, you don’t have to pause because the RPMs don’t need to drop as much. Say you are in 5 high (12) and you want to shift to 6 low (13), just hit your splitter into low and throw the stick down, no pause between gears. Hopefully this helps.
I'm pretty sure he wasn't splitting every gear
Or bobtailing just start on the high side. I never use low unless I have a trailer or I'm in a parking lot.
12:44 is when the learning start and the figuring out what to do and 13:00 is when you start piecing everything together and the concentration on his face is pretty good.. 10 speed is pretty simple to shift once you learn it but when you are dealing with 12-18 speed its a little different the only thing added in is the high and low range that comes in to play. But hey, you learning as you go. Awesome work on the Transmission Swap and driving it out of their.
When you first left and had Mike in the truck with you, I felt that excitement lol. Shifter looks like it came out the perfect.
Awesome!! Only thing missing is now it deserves some nice half or full rear fenders! Looking really good Greg!
Once those windows are tinted it will be perfect! Annndddddd you should sell me the 08
Shifter is the perfect height. That's cowboy shifting though. Sounds much better and the kitty loves to pull in the low rpm range. I never go over 1200 rpms. Shift between 900 and 1200. My opinion.
Just beautiful!!!!!! That is the way trucks are suppose to sound like. Now, you guys need a custom deck plate and mud flap light brackets.
All you need now is some 5% tint and some chicken lights hanging from the mirrors!! Truck is looking amazing 😍👌
yes definatly needs tinted!!
5% tint on a commercial vehicle is a guaranteed way to get a ticket. DOT/ CMVE is ten fold more strict about it than most traffic cops.
@@chevyon37s Well for one i dont see any dot numbers on the truck nor do i think greg is planning to start a trucking business, therefor it is not a commercial vehicle, making your argument invalid. but regardless I and many other guys do run dark tint on our rigs. I even know a guy with 30% on the shield of his truck. all depends on if your willing to deal with the occasional ticket or hassle.
@@ansonhackett9791 he’s using the truck to make money on UA-cam... therefore it’s a commercial truck wether he admits it or not. also if it ever tows 10,001lbs or more it’s commercial. Also I believe he’s got it registered for more than 26,000lb GVWR so also commercial in that aspect. Even if he jumps the hoops of it not being a commercial vehicle, it being a vehicle that it’s intended use is commercial and 99% of the same vehicles actual use being a commercial vehicle he’ll likely get pulled over by DOT regardless.
Even in a perfect world where it isn’t a CMV, 5% tint is pretty much illegal in every state at least on front windows sooo.... it’s just not worth the hassle to me since the risk of actually getting pulled over and ticketed for are much higher. I’ve ran 5%, had it read 3% on MSHP’s meter.
@@chevyon37s good points, I still disagree on some aspects but good points for sure. aint it a damn shame when the tint meter lies!? ive had it happen to me as well lmao. have a good 1 man
Awesome Truck You need to install Rear Chrome Axle Cover make the rear Pop
Time for some Hogebuilts. Truck looks amazing, very happy for you. Please keep it coming!!!
I just cant wait to see this thing actually making some power.
Looks sounds and runs amazing guys great job been watching since the beginning loved watching your plan come together Greg!!
Should have put some anti-seize on the tail pipes maybe would have been easier to get off! LOL! I appreciate your vids they are inspiring!
Yep I agree
"tail pipes?" LMFAO 😂
We put a sealer on them, 8" pipes with low picket elbows, sometimes the elbows will vibrate loose and the clamps get only so tight
Does silent Mike have kids? Because he is killin the dad joke game with his fast paint job remark 🤣
Anybody remember that truck movie with Patrick Swayze called “Black Dog” I think? I could have the name wrong but this brings those child hood memories back watching Greg push this Pete around.
That’s what it was called. “Nothin like the sound of a Caterpillar in the morning...” Good movie.
@@masonsydow9546 "nothing like a caterpillar engine " doesn't have the "in the morning " I know I'm nitpicking sorry 😆
Actually, this Pete became my favourite truck since I watched that movie.
The semi mechanic is a real pro! Great work!
The clutch you installed is a great clutch to run while you learn how to shift.
I'm loving the black and chrome on it with leds
Good job guys. Now u have a real truck. Sounds awesome.
All you’re missing now is A little catch phrase on the back of the sleeper and some interior and you’ll be golden haha.
Probably one of my top 5 favorite videos you’ve done. Awesome 👍
So many gears of freedom right there 🦅🇺🇲
Love the shifter! Love the truck and your content! Keep it coming guys!
GUYS THIS LITTLE KITTYCAT SOUNDS AWESOME. VERY NICE JOB ON THE PETE. BLESSED BE MY FRIENDS AND KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK.
Not going to lie. Probably one of the best 379s I've seen
You have yourself a man’s mission now!!!!! Need the cowboy hat an a dip of Copenhagen 😂😂😂😂awesome stuff sally
Greg very happy for you!! Truck is awesome!! Love the 18 speed
Awesome truck y’all should add some more lights and a headache rack on the back
13:56 oh yeah, that totally looks comfortable to shift 🤣
One in my father's truck is higher up then that and he sits on the floor
Put a ball on the end of your shifter and move the splitter switches to the dash it will clean up that long shifter won't have those air lines running up. Good choice of transmission truck is looking great
"You'll have that on these big jobs" Greg and Ceetus 2021
People have been saying that for years
That shifter is PERFECT🤘🤘🤘
You guys have done a great job on it. Your hard work really paid off, Greg!
Pete look sweet greg keep up the great videos. Mike's welds are sick.
I fall in love with my 6nz every time it play that tune at 13:29.😍😍😍
You really should throw some black paint on those brake chambers. Of all the things not to black out lol.
I can’t believe you didn’t have them 10/10 the whole rig. Polish the wheels, grill, finish Interior, axle seal etc. looking good tho!
Tint the windows and the bottom of the windshield!
Btw your brave for leaving a truck on Jack stands
I'm definitely a fan of a shorter shifter but I am use to a pickup truck style in a big truck because I have a 88 Kodiak that I use
I see you got doors up on the new shop. My opinion is the shifter is about six inches to tall.
It gets better with time and when you pull your trailers it will be easier to shift
Greg is getting chunnnnky. Same here🤣🤣🤣
Man this truck is absolutely badass 🤠🤘🏻
Learning to float them gears!! Love it!!
When splitting gears up or down shifting you can pull the shifter out of gear then split and put back in gear after you add or decrease throttle. That will make sure that splitter gear went in all the way. Quick way to kill a transmission is not making sure the gears are in all the way. Awesome Truck
Great vid... fast pitting is a new thing I’m going to start using...
He will be inside that trans soon with that extension on there. Ask me how I know.
I like the look of them but they are hell on the transmission. It will start popping outta the hole against the dash soon enough
Must be the driver, 1.5million with mine and no issues
@@Twitch33693 sorry, guess I haven't reached super trucker status.
You must be one of the few, shops around here get them all the time.
A set of JJ bracket headlights with the big round light pots would look sweet on your Pete, very old school looking and the 7 grill bar kit would set it right off. Nice ride no matter what though.
I've driven about all the engine and Trans combos out there and imo a Cat with a 13/18sp is the easiest to shift combo followed by a detroit
Oh man that Pete tho!! I need it!!
You have any c15 core that I can buy from you??
Hi there i have issue with left knee
Is it possible change manual transmission to auto transmission. And how much i have to pay?
Thanks
Wish you were closer to Massachusetts! I own my truck detailing shop. Specialty is cutting and polishing aluminum. Makes me cringe not seeing the wheels tanks and grill not polished up nice! Haha
Clutch will work with what you’re doing. If heavy hauling cross country, I’d run a manual adjustment
are you guys in bowling green? i recognized the part where you got off I-65 and went by the Holiday Inn. Guess that means i travel too much if you can pick out hotels 7 hours from home :)
Can’t wait to get this rig love it!!!!
Bran Used 😂🤣!! I love it. Great job! I miss my 379
Are you gonna be in Tennessee this fall for the rod run in September, i would love to see that truck.
I found low in high range was perfect for turning corners when you dont have to stop, then split, then direct into 5th and away you go.
And you gotta get rid of automated buttons and new parts of interior on Peterbilt 379.
He’s going to do that but later down the road
Greg, you guys gotta try some Reign energy drinks. More caffeine and way more healthy, I don't get the crash after like when I drink monsters
Reign is literally made by monster, check out 3d energy or something like qualia mind
I tend to like coffee quite well for an energy drink lol
hoping switching over the vintage round headlights?
The Ol Pete sounds awesome Greg
As a 30 year driver she's getting there!!!!!!!
Living the dream Truck is bad ass.
It needs a set of Nathan train Horns and a rear window drop visor
Need chrome around front window and around back window on sleeper with a visor
Would love to teach you how to drive that thing. 18 speeds are special. Take your time to learn it well.
Shifter is perfect outlaw 😎
Hurry up and get them wheels polished and some full color matched rear fenders on that sweet ride
Dammmm son that pete looking clean. Keep up that good content Greg
Brand-used transmissions are the best if they are nit beaten to death.
Yep!!
Gotta love a big truck project. When I bought my single screw Freightliner to haul my 44' 5th wheel around, It instantly became my favorite toy!
Great project, I would also have changed that gearbox. I love Fuller and regret that almost all new trucks today have automatic transmissions here in Europe. I still wonder as a professional driver, why such a long gear stick? I never understood that.
You can leave the air shift forward and still switch between low and high
You'll never desire anything less than that 18 after this!
Why? Is he pulling 120k gross up 12% grades?
@@allenseferagic9426 Who knows what he will be pulling... Are you some kind of expert in determining the future? Any experienced driver who has had the time with an 18 speed knows you can shift it without using every single gear, but knows that they are a plus to have if you ever needed to split.
You need to install an aluminum fifth wheel plate that will really set the back end off.
Yeah i was gonna say that your shifter is way farther forward than and Pete I’ve been in does a different plate let you put the tower farther back or is it that the trans isn’t a trans for a Pete’
Extended hoods are all the way forward, short hoods are all the way back, trucks like 386's have em right in the middle. That's why the center plate of the floor is so long.
Nope all 379s are just past midway. Pulled enough 10s,13s,15s,and18s.ro know that truck is a379 cab and hood on a 386 frame. That's why fuel tanks were under the cab. I have an 06 isx 13 in the shop now doing a pull out overhaul due to a broke main cap. Your shifter should not be that far forward.
@@lesliemay1323 so is the engine in his truck farther forward than a regular 379?
@@GavinS6
You are wrong.
@@GavinS6
379 are not midway, long hoods have shifter at front of the plate because the cab is farther back over the transmission, and short hoods are at the back of the plate because the cab is right up humping the back of the engine. The difference in hood length and shifter position is pretty much congruent.
Well done Greg A. Peterbilt looks amazing and now it shifts great too! How fast were you running in those interstate shots heading home! Lol
Hey mr Greg what drive tires are on that truck?. Or can anyone on here answer my question
Beautiful! put a brush guard on it! 👏🍻👍
+ a spotlight 😬
How much did this cost? I’m looking to do the same thing.
It came a long way from were it was looking good don't know wat i like better shifter or stacks all hell there both cool
Now it's a real truck!!! Did anyone else notice the doors are on the big shop?
I'm buy 96 peterbilt should I bigger turbo fast enough haul stuff
Loving the Pete. Now get those 315s on the front!
And some window tint 🤙🏼
So when you gonna build and interior for that beast?
Truck is looking great. So what did that set you back about $18K?
Pete sounds so good shifting, so amazing
Stretch that frame and get that rig on the ground, it’ll look badass!!
Greg got them garage doors!!
Love the pete content dude 👌 can't wait for the next vid
Yes he finally make the cat 🐱 have a 18 speed transmission 🙌🏼‼️💯
And you only use the clutch on takeoffs and Landings! You get the RPMs right the next gear will just fall right in.
