Enjoyed the video. I've watched several hat cleaning videos now and I'm really surprised that no one so far has recommended using a small household vacuum clearer with an upholstery brush attachment as a first step, just to remove the lose dust. Cheers.
Wear my hats at work all the time. Clean my felt hat in the same manner. Clean the sweatband, and put conditioner on it as well. I have never heard of anyone actually cleaning the inside of the crown, other than the sweatband, so I guess nobody does that. Then I spray the hat with a Water Repellant, since it rains here in the fall a lot. I wear Felt after Labor Day, and Straw after Memorial Day.
Should only brush in a counter clockwise direction on top ANF clockwise direction on the bottom to be consistent with the matting of the felt at the factory to maintain smoothness if the felt angle prolong life if the hat. Also, it is better to use horse hair brush on dark hats and biars hair brush in light colored hats for the same reason. Don't over saturate the hat to avoid losing its shape.
I'll have to give this a try . I have a felt jack Daniels that lives on the dash of my truck when I'm not wearing it ,4 years later it's looking rather faded . Hopping with will bring a bit of the color back
How do you recommend steaming a felt hat to refresh the brim after extended wear? .....if working from home and you do not have access to a professional hat steamer.....
Will this spray make the felt hat darker? You say using this spray on a lighter hat will stain it which makes me wonder if it makes it darker? Does it work on sun faded felt hats?? It looks like many are asking that question here but can't find an answer
Hey and grain always works well usually works to get them to come in the trailer but we found that once we once we did the rope on the back Then they would just slide on up in the trailer no problem of course we did have hay in the front so they they went straight for that
Hey thank ya for your video. You helped alot. By a chance have you trained a mule to go in and outta a trailer? Mine is a pain in the ass. He's a stubborn ass. So am I but damn it lol. I'm workin him to be a pack mule for hunting
@@Acosta-on7do Its more that you want to always brush in the same direction. You can go clockwise, counterclockwise, front to back, back to front, whatever it is, just always do it the same way
@@martincurtis2257 shellac doesnt stiffen wool, not really, it stiffens fur cos it tightens the tiny locking barbs, wool doesnt have barbs,or if it does they arnt similar, as an experiment I put a whole load of shellac on one half of a wool hat and I didnt notice any difference beyond it looking and feeling dirty, same mixture on a rabbit fur Akubra turned it into cardboard and looked fine. Hairspray is fine, I havnt used it myself but some people use it to train in a new shape, shellac's where its at tho if your hat is fur.
Acosta 58900 I’ve had success darkening my brown felt hat using finely ground coffee, medium or dark roast. After a good cleaning of course. Coffee’s oily sooo you must spread it on evenly, let it dry naturally outside in the shade for a day then, simply brush or vacuum off all remaining loose grounds. You can eliminate the coffee smell left by sprinkling baking soda over it then lightly vacuum the soda off. But , don’t rub the baking soda into the felt cuz it’ll turn out blotchy colored. Enjoy your coffee guys, Uncle Fudd 😃
I have an X-ray's horse and let me start off by saying I love a girl that wears a black cowboy hat ! Anyway to get them to stop It's a chore because this horse runs me into the trees and treason everything else trying to knock me off but I don't want to pull back on the rains too hard. But some of them are stubborn stubborn and just want to go want to go also the trailer issue we got 2 people on each side with a Rope and just East East on getting the horse walking up into the trailer does the trailer it was pretty simple it just took 2 people but You may find a better way and if you do let me know I appreciate it edit and if you know how to make that horse stop And a full gallop when is the X-ray's horse Please let me know lol well thank you darling have a great day
Hate to rain on you’re parade but using like a toilet brush can mess with the beaver ply on each hat it differs x quality but it does happen to be risky due to the thick bristles.
3m clear packing tape works better than the lint roller. Rub it on, peel it off... CLEAN!!!

I do plan on re-doing this video to get a better quality video. This was one of the first videos on the channel. Thank you for being patient!
Equine Country love your videos

How to clean a hat: "the first thing you need is a dirty hat" LOL!!! Wow, you're really insightful.
I'll have to give this a try . I have a felt jack Daniels that lives on the dash of my truck when I'm not wearing it ,4 years later it's looking rather faded . Hopping with will bring a bit of the color back
Awesome. My hat has never been cleaned. I'll give this a try.
Does it has to be remolded after foaming it, cause I'm assuming it makes it softer and can loose it's shape right.
How do you recommend steaming a felt hat to refresh the brim after extended wear? .....if working from home and you do not have access to a professional hat steamer.....
there's a giant wild cat behind you
Thanks. The Scout cleaner worked great!
Very helpful. Pretty new to hats. Got a Stetson fedora and Western hat . Enjoying hats and learning. Thx
How would you suggest re-coloring a hat? I have had mine for 14 yrs and it has seen better days.
probably fabric dye
especially since its felt
Thank you. Very helpful video.

I watched other videos where they say you are only supposed to go counter-clockwise to brush your felt hat. Is this true?

Awesome really been looking to get the old one cleaned up.
Thanks for teaching me to clean I know I’m late to this vid but good cleaning
Would the scout work for a dark brown hat with sweat marks?
Thank you, pretty lady.
I could only pay attention on the cat running in the background. So funny!!
Lol I didn't notice the kitties until I edited the video. Im glad they decided to join in. :)
I find just using a damp sponge and scrubbing counter clockwise works great for fur and wool felt
Great vid Ashley really enjoyed it I just picked up a little 2x cheapy hat in black as well be my first time doing it cleaning that is thank you again
Will this product also get old cigarette odors out?

Two questions, did you say rub it or scrub it.
Also did you see that badger run behind you
Always brush your hat counter clock wise.
Darkman2083 explain please
@@Acosta-on7do Its more that you want to always brush in the same direction. You can go clockwise, counterclockwise, front to back, back to front, whatever it is, just always do it the same way
I appreciate the video thank you
Great job...you solved my present problem...Thanks
Thanks a lot! You help me with my old felt hat.
Great video its simple and easy to understand
Do you gotta use the lint roller??
Look out for that Bobcat behind you !! :)
It’s my simple opinion but why not using light vacuum instead of using that sticky plastic
I just ordered a Stetson blazer
please help me! tengo un sombrero del mismo material al del video y tiene manchas de agua como las puedo retirar del sombrero para que quede limpio?
Hi, I was wondering if I should use a dark or light hat cleaner for a brown hat?
Joanna C. Use baking soda, sprinkle on, lightly brush then vacuum off. It’ll even smell clean
YOUR FREAKING AWESOME DUDET!
I've heard you need to brush the top counterclockwise and the bottoms clockwise. Is there really a difference?
The felt does have a natural "flow" direction, just like wood. Although if you go against the grain you can rough it up to get all the dirt out.
What if you have a navy colored hat .
I love my felt hat.
Thank you kindly
Hey offen should I clean my felt hat with a horse hair brush
+Michael Castellano You can. Just make sure it is 100% clean. You don't want horse hair or dirt rubbing off on the hat :)
is it possible to reshape a felt hat? I mean in order to change the original shape. for example a regular to "Gus" style ?
You can reshape felt, although it takes a lot of steam and if you are completely re changing the shape you might need a chemical to soften the felt.
With a good hat you can reshape it with steam, go to your local tack/western store and they should have professionals that know how to do it.
can you put hair spray to hold the side up? would hair spray mess it up?
Samurai King try shellac. It stiffens wool/felt hats. Theres a video on here on it.

The cat said, why did I go that way, why?
While working on my tractor I got oil on my gray felt hat. Will this stuff get it off?
David Garcia probably. Contact the manufacturer though. Hope it was a 3X wool!
Martin Curtis it worked perfectly, thanks.
Would this work for wool hats ?
Great video
You're awesome cheers from Australia
What can I do to make my felt hat look darker?

Your spur straps are on wrong
Brian Nielaen Thanks! This video is 3 years old and my spur straps have been fixed since then 😊
How do you shape your hat at home?
Dana Stonechild I use a steamer but I’ve seen someone use a iron but only use the steam setting on it
Did any one else see the first cat or raccoon then the one that was running ! Lol
I round up wild mustangs everyday my hat does not get that dirty
I think I have the same hat lol 😍
