The problem with a $400 price point is that the switch2 is now competing with the Steam Deck or PS5. If you already have $400 saving up a lil extra to get to $500 or even $600 is not that long of a wait, especially when you can bring your entire steam library or get 2-3 free games a month with a Playstation sub. Nintendo has great exclusives, but the state of Emulation is slowly but surely making those exlcusives less of a draw. Nintendo *HAS* to step up their game and either get competitive with their hardware specs, or pull a DS/Wii and change the way we game.
Thanks so much for taking the time to discuss my question! Far as missing context goes, I upgraded to Series X from One during early covid, but actually built my first PC in late '23, mostly for shooters and fighting games. And the PC has been outstanding ever since, while I've slowly played Series X less and less. You're both absolutely right that it's a tough personal choice, though. Tough to say goodbye to the ecosystem you've enjoyed for so long, even if it's a shell of its former self. That all being said, I do think I'll be getting rid of it this year. Always grateful for your chill insights.
Thanks for the great question and for the kind words! I appreciate the extra context too. Sounds like you have a super dialed setup, I agree, since you have the PC... it's really hard to see the use cases for the box, but who knows a tv setup is also super nice for another space. Hope your week goes well, thanks aegis!
Okay , I guess I’ve been here long enough and watched enough of your videos and these podcasts to now comment, I don’t know what it is but these are super comfortable for some reason Please keep these up(your normal videos and these podcasts)
10:30 I FEEL THE SAME WAY. The 360 controller is still my favorite Xbox controller. I still hate how the Xbox one controller feels to hold. I had to get myself a Hyperkin 360 controller for the series x
For me, the visual fidelity of the Switch 2 is such a non-issue. 1080p sounds perfect to me. I've also heard (although I don't know if it's actually true) that increasing graphical quality is the big reason for outrageous file sizes, so less graphical quality is exactly the thing I need. Like, I really wanted to try FF16 but then I saw the file size was 80gb+ and immediately I got rid of it from my wishlist. It makes me miss Starcraft 2 on PC where they had the "Playable" and "Optimal" download states (might be a Blizzard thing, not just a Starcraft thing). I'd always jump in at "Playable". And yeah the game looked worse, but it also looked perfectly cool and good, and was an awesome game.
Switch 2 is def not getting 4k. Ppl forget that the Switch had an adaptable resolution to run games like botw or totk and it often dropped lower than 720p. I doubt we'll even get 1440p. Upscaling isn't that insane yet.
I’m 33 next month. I only always had PlayStation so I’m very happy to finally try gears and halo hopefully. However, I hope Xbox users get to play PlayStation games as well. Games for gamers is the mission that should be the standard. Enough of the fighting over a plastic box.
For Black Ops 1: its nit just the controller. The Xbox360 eumulator it runs on is a few microseconds behind. You'll notcie it when running zombie trains between actual xbox360 and the emulator on Xbone
Maybe you misspoke but just so you know, Astro’s playroom and rescue mission are not compatible on psvr2. You need psvr1 which is really lame, there is a compatibility kit with ps5 but I’m not sure if Sony is still selling it
The Switch 2 reveal was pretty underwhelming for me, too. Graphically, we're taking a huge leap here because a PS4 level system with all the NVidia magic should have some outstanding lighting possibilities. When I saw that new Mario Kart, and saw how similar it looked to MK8D, that was very disappointing. I think it would have been very cool to see a course like Neo Bowser City, with all the rain, the karts reflecting off the puddles, and the neon signs pouring in light. Or they should have shown a different game with more compelling graphics. Of course I'll still be buying the console day 1, though. 60FPS Xenoblade with no more dynamic rez, pop-in or draw distance issues is too good to pass up. I would be willing to pay $500 for the console if that meant they weren't cutting any corners with the hardware. $70 for their games is a pain, though. The entire reason we went up to $70 in the first place was because of huge dev costs and dev time. But Nintendo isn't functioning like that! They're still in days of development past, yet they want to profit off the present industry standards. It's scummy, especially for a company that's supposed to be for families. I would like some Nintendo selects to come back for the Switch 2. There's still a few straggler games that I might consider picking up if they dropped in price, but not for $60.
When it comes to Xbox, I struggle to see how they are gonna entice people to buy into their next system when they are giving away their main selling point to every other platform. And if they get out of the console space altogether, it's gonna be down to just Sony and Nintendo. And on the higher end side it's just Sony who will largely go unchecked if this continues. PC is looking more and more tempting atm but I collect physical games so I'd end up double dipping on PC anyways.
I am so happy you’re doing podcasts again, man. When you ended Destiny: the show, it was such a bummer
Thank you so much LNG, I really appreciate that! I hope you're doing really well. 2025 going good so far?
These podcasts have really kickstarted my year. Never been more intentional in my life! Keep them coming
This has easily become my favorite podcast and channel recently
Yay! Another episode!!!
Thanks!

YES
Same! I love it, the price point is excellent as well.

You *vastly* underestimate upscaling tech lol

Yay my favourite podcast!
Hopefully one of those astrobot clones will include a certain bear and bird... wishful thinking
