Clear, to the point, no BS, no loud, crappy, totally unnecessary "music", no stupid "merch", no begging for likes and subs. SAFETY was demonstrated as paramount - great job!
i LOVE your safety first approach, and precautions. I watched several videos on this today and none really had your pre- emphasis on electrical and water temperature safety, and your tips on that. 140 degree water can give you 2nd and third degree burns very fast, 150 is even faster and worse. i wouldn't go above 130, and even that, only if there are no kids using the water at all. that is scalding hot.
Very helpful and I was actually looking up videos on how to turn _down_ the temperature because he's not joking, it got beyond scalding after a recent maintenance visit.
Great video, thanks man! I had a new heater that was not heating enough. I did not know how to adjust it until I came across and watched your video. So simple! Now we have toasty hot water.... LOL
This was a great video...Really helps me understand what the 2 panels are about...thank you....is this pretty un iversal or are there different ways for different water heaters?
Really great vid man, I though you nailed it with the safety first. I have the same one and could not find the temp control settings. Question though If your going on vacation in summer what mode would set it at?
Thanks man, I appreciate that. If you are going to be gone for a while then you can turn it down a bit to save on power. I’m not sure what you mean by modes, it should just have a dial that goes up or down.
So my top panel is just a metal knob and nothing else. There doesn’t appear to be a temp gauge at all. I could only find a way to adjust the bottom. But this definitely helped me get that far at least!
My smart ass husband refuses to watch stuff and of course here I am and things are done correctly now! He did the running up and down turning breaker off :)!
What happens if you turn off the electricity to what you thought was to it and changed the temperature? I heard the click when I did it too but didn’t know I’m not supposed to hear that till now ! Is that really really bad or just dangerous… now I need to relabel my box
I am assuming that turning down the temperature would be the same only reversing going up to hot to turning the temp down. I just bought a house and while I was washing dishes, the temperature became so hot that I slightly burned my hands. Thank you so much for your video!
Is this pretty standard for turning up the temperature in the hot water heater? We just purchased a Rheem and compared to the last water heater, it takes a little longer for the water to flow hot. Thanks to your video, I have more confidence in turning up the temperature. Than you!
Sorry if you already answered this, I didn't read all the comments... was your circuit box really wrong? You had said #5 and #7 but then I only saw you flip 1 breaker. Wouldn't you need to flip another one too?
I’m not sure exactly what happened but whichever breaker I flipped did not turn it off. It’s just a good rule of thumb to always treat it as if the electricity is on. Unless you have a multi meter to verify there is no voltage.
We didn't watch your video first but I don't think we did anything but maybe we did because now or hot water heater is making a noise when I turn on bath water should I be concerned?
I don’t understand why you need to cut the power just to turn the thermostat knob? Why would the thermostat knob be designed that way? Do you cut the power to adjust your a/c thermostat? To turn your lights on?
Because there are two live wires right by the thermostat and it’s basic safety. You can do it without cutting the power if you want, but that’s on you if you get shocked.
Hey man, super helpful video. How long does it usually take after I reconnect power for you to notice an increase in water temp? I can hear it doing its thing but not sure how long it takes.
I’m some water heaters there are two heating elements, top and bottom. You want them to be the same but nothing bad will happen is they are a slightly different. One will just hear more than the other. Over time this will cause more wear and tear on the element that is set to a higher temp. Just get them as close as you can. 👍
We have a Reliance water heater that’s out of warranty from 2016. Water get to scalding and always has. It’s been checked by plumbers with no solution and reliance won’t help. Suggestions?
My first thought is that there may be a problem with the thermostat or the switch that turns the elements off when it’s reached temp. I would try to talk to the manufacturer for a troubleshooting guide or technical support if you are wanting to try and fix it. The other option is to replace it which would be expensive.
Check the breaker to make sure it has power. If it still doesn’t heat then the elements could be out and may need to be replaced. You could also replace the entire water heater if it’s really old. Hope this helps.
Just install new heater ( Bradford White) 40 gals electric, turn on cold water inlet valve to it fill the tank open the pressure valve on top to get the air out, switch on the isolation switch which is connected from the breaker to the water heater, the heater came for a few seconds and suddenly no power, i tried with the reset button, still no response, what you think could causing that problem?
It could be a bad isolation switch if you are getting power from the breaker. I would check and make sure all wiring is nice and tight. Then, turn on the power and trace it back to the breaker with a multimeter to see where the power stops. That should tell you which component in the power supply chain is faulty.
There are two heating elements in this particular water heater. You should set them as close as you can to the same. One is for the top element, and one is for the bottom.
They are separate heating elements, top and bottom. There are some water heaters that have everything in one panel. It just so happens, this particular water heater has two panel. The process is similar for both types.
Clear, to the point, no BS, no loud, crappy, totally unnecessary "music", no stupid "merch", no begging for likes and subs. SAFETY was demonstrated as paramount - great job!
Thank you!
@@vanjitsu132 Aw, c'mon, you EARNED it!
As a girl that doesn’t know a thing about water heaters or anything like that I am thankful you made this video very simple and easy to understand

Thank you!
very helpful, thank you so much. It cleared all my doubts that I had until now.
Thanks for this video. This just solved our problem in the shower.
very helpful, thanks for the clear video!
Great video! I also like how you discuss the electrical safety and reset button components of the discussion. Well done, Mate!
Thank you! Your video gave me the confidence to do it.
I did as shown. Perfect results. Just wondered why there are 2 adjustments, not one ?
In some water heaters there are two heating elements. One on top, and one on bottom.
This was a great video...Really helps me understand what the 2 panels are about...thank you....is this pretty un iversal or are there different ways for different water heaters?
It’s pretty much universal for electric, may be different for gas.
This was exactly the way you showed in the video....thanks again!
Awesome video, I will be doing this later today thank you for your guidance! 🚿🛠️
Thank you 🙏
You’re welcome 😎👍
Thank you for your detailed information and precautions.
Do we need to adjust the temperature in both the top and bottom panel?

120 degrees normal, test with thermometer at faucet a while after adjusting.

Thxs helped a bunch
I have two of these heaters side by side, how do i know which one to turn up?
Is the “Hot” setting 140 or 120 usually
You can also ruin dishwashers and certain faucets from cranking the water heater.
This is a brilliant comment! I didn't even think about that, Than you!
So will that help with the water heating up faster ?
It won’t heat any faster, it will just keep the water in the tank at a higher temp.
Sorry if you already answered this, I didn't read all the comments... was your circuit box really wrong? You had said #5 and #7 but then I only saw you flip 1 breaker. Wouldn't you need to flip another one too?

When you turn on the bath, the hot water heater will begin to fill to replace the water you are using in the bath.
Do you have a Tripp switch video on the 28 gallon water heater?
No sorry. This is the only water heater video I made.
Do top and bottom be set the same or bottom set height then top
They need to be close to the same, but it’s no big deal if they aren’t exactly the same.
I don’t understand why you need to cut the power just to turn the thermostat knob? Why would the thermostat knob be designed that way? Do you cut the power to adjust your a/c thermostat? To turn your lights on?

You can do it without cutting the power if you want, but that’s on you if you get shocked.
Do the top and the bottom elements have to match? Could one be set less hot and the other more hot?
They need to be close, but it’s no big deal if they aren’t exactly the same.
Hey man, super helpful video. How long does it usually take after I reconnect power for you to notice an increase in water temp? I can hear it doing its thing but not sure how long it takes.
It will take about 15-30 minutes for it to get up to temp.

Hello. I gotta question? Can you help me with my electric water heater? Water running COLD 🥶
Check the breaker to make sure it has power. If it still doesn’t heat then the elements could be out and may need to be replaced. You could also replace the entire water heater if it’s really old.

how long does it take to heat up the tank?
It should heat up within an hour.

How should the upper and lower thermostats be set relative to each other? The same? One higher? Why are there two independent settings?
There are two heating elements in this particular water heater. You should set them as close as you can to the same. One is for the top element, and one is for the bottom.
What about ID the proper water heater breaker in panel?
Do u press reset after u readjust temperature?
You shouldn’t have to reset anything, just turn the breaker back on and you should be good to go.
Thanks
Why do they have 2 panels? Why not have the reset button on the bottom panel? What’s the difference between those panels?
They are separate heating elements, top and bottom.
There are some water heaters that have everything in one panel. It just so happens, this particular water heater has two panel. The process is similar for both types.
Thank you 😊 💓
You’re welcome 😎👍
Is there an issue if the top & bottom temperature settings are not set to exactly the same? ...they are slightly different?
Everything will still run fine if they are not exactly the same. The temp dials are independent from each other.
Thankyou
You’re welcome
How do i know if i have 240 voltage or 208 voltage electric water heater?
You can use a meter to check the voltage, but most likely it will be 240 volts.
@vanjitsu132 Thank you .
The two temperatures have to be the same. Why there are two dials. Can you set the two temperature different?
Ideally you want them to be the same, but everything will still run fine even if they are not the same.
Wow! Thanks so much! 😊

Just turn the main off instead of figuring out which breaker it is...
And if it's at night, how do you see?
That is definitely an option, but some people may not want to kill power to their entire home.
Just make sure you have a flashlight handy.
Appreciate that. 🇺🇸 🏆
This type of water heater is very sharp and will cut you. Wear gloves always! I put tape on the edges of mine.
I have trouble keeping my water hot it stays cold all the time
There may be a problem with the hot water heater.
Wish you could come do mine 😭😂
it’s a water heater not a hot water heater
What a total waste of time. Just show what people are asking. What a waste.
What are people asking?
Don’t quit your day job………ugh!

It’s not a “hot” water heater.
Water heater
So glad you took time out of your day to clear that up. We can all rest easy knowing you are out here saving UA-cam from people like me.
The title is wrong on this video. It's a water heater, not a "hot water heater"..😄🤌
