Kole tangs are beautiful fish. Thought I purchased one from my LFS, however ended up getting a The Indian Gold Ring Bristletooth Tang (Ctenochaetus truncatus) VERY BEAUTIFUL FISH!!! 🥰
Listening while I clean up my fish room but came to my desk to comment it was ATI who made the mesh wheel. I still have the bubblemaster 250 although it's not running anymore. I think it was rated for 792 gallons or some obscene and "exact" number but I was running it on my 112 gallon. The mesh wheels caused the pumps to die much faster. The last few years I used it traditional needle wheels even if it lowered performance since it wouldn't destroy the pumps as fast. Much like an old euro reef you needed a chop stick or something similar to give it a poke anytime the power cut or you turned it off to clean.
Great episode guys as always. I just wanted to chime in on the nano skimmer topic. I currently an running a JBJ 45 AIO. I've always read that nano skimmers are a waste money. I had some points to use up so decided to buy a small aquamaxx skimmer that fits nicely in the AIO. I didn't have high expectations but what I noticed almost immediately was a major boost in PH. I set the skimmer high so basically is very dry skimming to not affect my salinity but even if it doesn't skim much the PH boost is definitely worth it.
To get a good exchange of carbon dioxide for oxygen you do require fresh air in the sump cabinet. I leave the doors open a lot of the time. You can fit a pipe on the intake to get fresh air from somewhere.
I added a aquamax auto filter roller and my nutrients became so low I removed my protein skimmer. Been running for months and have had no issues in my 170 gallon mixed reef
RLSS rofl. Best performing skimmer I have ever owned but when the junk pump broke I was never able to fix it. The owner of the company didn’t even know his own products. Spent $400 after talking to this clown and the “replacement parts” didn’t even begin to fit. Gave that brand the double bird and went to reef octo and never looked back.

Thanks Jake, you made being a reef geek cool. You’ll be missed, rest in peace my friend
Every video I rewatch hurts brother. I pray your wife and baby stay in terrific health. You are truly sorely missed.
I love how Mark is perpetually always "about to go on vacation". A little jealous? Yes I am.
Haha same thing crossed my mind

I make my own silencers from old camera film black tubs and airline. Works amazingly well.

I still use a AquaC skimmer on my garage system.
ANY well spec'd and maintained protein skimmer will usually do some great work
