    Years ago, I worked at a pre-press shop that had gatorboard, cardboard tubes, mylar and lots of packing tape sitting around. I built a table out of those materials using only my Leatherman Wave. I constructed a structural grid that I could tape 4 cardboard tubes in for legs and tape that to a 3'x4' piece of gatorboard with mylar on top.
    That table was unbreakable. People tried to slam things on top of it, kick it around and beat it up. But the table held up to all the abuse. I've used my Leatherman for a lot of things over 20 years, but that was one of the coolest.

    Overall design looks nice, but tool quality looks mixed. Saw and Scissors look ok, but others appear to be the same as those on wingman/sidekick/rev which is disappointing. No Bit Holder, Tiny file. Price is equal or higher than Surge.

    if you're into one-handed use, the leatherman OHT is the perfect solution. The pliers deploy even faster, tools are accessible from the outside, and it's honestly the most convenient multi-tool i've owned. only downside is it's heavier because it's more heavy-duty.

Just the fact that I can open it one handed had me fall in love from the time I saw it on the blade HQ video from blade show. I ordered mine today I cannot wait to get it. • @JaredHayes541
      @JaredHayes541 5 років тому +4

      Ash Green my thoughts exactly. It’s listed as having more tools then the wave but that just because it has a Phillips and two flat heads. The wave doesn’t need those as permanent tools because of the bit driver. I’ll show interest when they ad the bit driver.

  • @johnp1366

    Leatherman are the best multitools period. I still have my Leatherman Micra that I keep in my pocket. Also, I still have my original early model Leatherman Supertool which is still going strong. I also have the bit adapter that attaches to the Supertool as well. Their respective sheaths are a little on the used side, but still quite functional. You can't go wrong with a Leatherman.

    I fell for the hype and bought a Free P4, returned it the next day. The thumb openers on the blades are sharp and are not comfortable to open. So much so, that there are videos on UA-cam about after market upgrades to fix this problem. My Charge TTi opens smooth as butter and is a stronger tool. Keep in mind that the 4 external “one hand opening tools” are really two because you can only open two with your thumbs and the others you have to open very awkwardly open on the back side with your fingers. The order of the two thumb implements on the P4 is straight blade (good) and saw (ugh). The serrated blade is not a primary thumb implement which IS on the charge. Serrated blades need to be one handed fast opening for emergency situations, not buried away or for only left hand use. Also when you squeeze the pliers on the P4 there is a noticeable flex and bend not found on the other stronger leatherman tools. The file on the P4 is small whereas you get a combination file on the charge. There is a cool factor to the P4 but it could be so much better. Not quite strong enough to replace my EDC charge tti yet. Maybe the P5 will be better?

    Am I the only one who doesn't get the hype and amazement over a one handed multitool?
    The OHT is one handed (even says it in the name) and has been around for ages.
    That and the "Free" tools aren't even full sized (like the tiny looking file), so what it holds over the OHT seems minimal.
    Either way, the Wave/Wave+ will likely still reign supreme.

    • @250rapid
      @250rapid 5 років тому

      The P4 has no clip because it's 8.6 oz, one ounce heavier than the P2 and for some individuals, it's too heavy for the pocket, that's why they give you the option to add one if the weight is not an issue for you 👍😉...The $20 price difference is because the P4 has a saw blade, a full straight knife blade and a full serrated blade for a total of 21 tools. The P2 has only 19 tool because there's no saw blade and only a single (partially serrated) knife blade.

    The new tool looks really nice but my major gripe with Leatherman's, in general, is they are rust magnets. My Supertool which lives in my car glovebox is covered in surface corrosion. My Surge which lives in my away bag the other day I got out and is heavily corroded and pitted. While at work I constantly have to oil them so much so I just can't be arsed using them despite the fact the toolset and functionality is really good.

    Zach, if you're there, I have a question! I need some recommendations for a nice folding knife that has brass and micarta. Any suggestions?

    Looks like a great tool, but everyone is cooing about one handed plier opening. Gerber has been doing the one hand thing since... well I got my first one in 1995. The one handed blade opening is a nice feature though.

    I can flick open my surge and get to most of the tools one handed too just can’t close the pliers one handed. Once you use the pliers you should be free to close it with 2 hands anyway

    I've had a Leatherman Super Tool since 1998, and to be honest, it's kind of a pain in the ass to use. That said, you do have the comfort of knowing each tool is locked in place when deployed. Does the Free lock the tools in place?

    • @BladeHQ
      @BladeHQ  5 років тому +1

      Each tool does lock in place and each tool has great feedback of when it is locked up. I really dug the pliers feedback the most.-Zac

    My first ever knife was a Leatherman Charge TTI from my father when I was 8. I abused it the way only an 8-year-old could, and it's still great. But one handed opening does sound super nice...

      I've been a Surge guy for years and was hesitant about the 'New' factor of this one, but after carrying it for a few weeks I found it to be really useful and up to any challenges my other Leathermans could tackle. Personally I have one in my pocket/kit from now on. -Zac
