    Okay, time to finally learn DaVinci. Been putting it off. Great video. Such an incredibly exciting time to make work with a camera.

    This comes in great because I haven't invested in a single Mist filter yet! Another plus point for me is that I get less vignetting because I don't stack one less filter in front of my lenses. I'm using the Sigma 16-28 and 28-70 with the Lumix S5ii and these lenses vignette a lot when you stack two or more filters in front of the lens.

    I was just thinking about this kind of thing while I was trying to take off a glimmer glass filter yesterday... lol but I checked the price, 499$ for a perpetual license 😩 really nice options but 😵‍💫 lol
    Watching the video as I typed that, it's true if you were using matte boxes it could eventually save money but I'm still just using the regular circular filters lol

      Still… if you’re using multiple cams, those prices rack up!!

      @@AnthonyRodriguezz I hear you lol It would definitely be nice to not have to worry about switching filters for lenses too etc., plus unscrewing filters is such a pain literally sometimes lol the fewer filters the better. Been eyeing this for a minute now, the price is steep but justifiable, filters are like 100$ to 200$ a piece if they are from Tiffen so the convenience of not putting extra glass in front of the lens, no filter vignette on wider lenses, no "oh shoot maybe 1/4 was too much", makes it feel like it's not that bad, for sure on my wishlist, now we wait for some sort of sale ahahah

    $500 is not much to pay considering where I live an 82mm Smoque filter costs nearly $200 🥲
    It makes sense to not use a filter so you aren’t baking-in an effect so you have more options in post.

    The "do it in post" is fine, especially when a film has a budget to connect to that. Fincher works with ungodly amount of money, wanted to shoot spherical because of how the image distorts when putting a camera close to the subject. They faked the anamorphic look, added distortion, CA and anamorphic flares. The DP was quoted as saying they "art directed the look" in post. This is expensive first and foremost, not only that but faking anamorphic for practical optical reasons motivated that cost. Fincher is also very experienced in doing this stuff in post and has almost always worked this way, at least in the last 15 years. Most people don't operate on this level. a filter reveals the "look" immediately in the frame so you can compose and light according to what you see in the monitor. Often times this leads to slightly adapting a frame or discovering something cool you wouldn't have seen had you simply "done it in post".
    Every single frame of almost anything that you see at the cinema or even in advertising has been heavily manipulated. Again budgets allow for that. On smaller productions especially where the client demands to see the results in an ungodly amount of time, who has the luxury of being able to do everything in post outside of skin smoothing (thanks high resolution cameras and people who want to be seen with an instagram filter on their skin to hide aging) and other post crap the client doesn't recognize or know about. (Mix music, colour, titles etc).
    It's cool a program can do this, but doesn't negate the need for filters, nor should it when comparing your small time productions to films or tv series with 150 million plus budgets.
    All that said, every DP works differently, some have the experience to be able to trust their craft to the post process, but not a lot of DP's I've shot with (camera operator, big budget films - True Lies, Titanic, Terminator 2, Avatar 1 - Yes all Cameron films - he likes his crew) will kick your ass if you even re-frame a shot they compose in post production.

      I think this program is aimed at mid level to small productions.
      I doubt anyone in the electric or art department is going to complain when a colorist grades the raw footage from that day.

    • @AnthonyRodriguezz
      @AnthonyRodriguezz  8 місяців тому

      Different strokes for different folks!
      While I do think getting it “right” in camera for diffusion is beneficial, being able to QUICKLY manipulate this all in post is definitely a gigantic benefit.
      Like Carty mentioned, this plugin is heavily aimed at medium to small sized productions and a lot of aspects of a frame I would never simply in “do it in post” like framing!
      Thanks for your input. I appreciate it! 🙏🏼
