drove Uber and Lyft from 2015 to 2019 in SF. I can totally get what you're saying. Part of me is depressed and super sad on how dead the city has become.
Unless you lived in SF, you can't grasp the severity of the situation. Now think about this: all of our major metro areas look like this. Our major economic hubs are grinding to a halt.
Tragic! Makes me tear up!
Bullshit. Look at the economic numbers. Business ARE STILL MAKING MONEY. I guess you don't live in the city because I love that the streets are walkable now that there are fewer people in the area.
@@J3unG Zoom doesn't help restaurants.
@@707Berto thank you
NYC, Miami, LA, San Diego have tons of people out and about.. Business is moving in those Cities..SF has MAJOR issues it needs to address. But the Mayor, District Attorney and City council don't give a shit.. Straight up.
Really digging your sf tour vids. I love that there seems to be no political views one way or the other. You seem to be genuine and down to earth.
I was an Urban Studies major at San Francisco State University in 1983...a group of us Urban Studies students stood on a busy financial district street corner during evening rush hour, we were tasked with counting pedestrians through a "screen line", we were collecting data for an analysis of pedestrian flow.
... I remember that it was almost impossible to count all of the pedestrians because of the constant flow of people on the sidewalk. Today, I will probably never return to San Francisco, a city I used to adore.
I can't believe how empty it is, this is not the San fransisco I used to know. At least it's good for commuters.
Dude not even u go out around 6 and it's. A Friday or any day to union square and it's fucking packed I can't even walk yo it's so much people ice skating just don't say it's dead cuz it really ain't yo yo yo
More videos like this, Jermaine! Thanks bro. (Not the city I used to know)
It's so weird for me, I would walk around with my friends in downtown sf in high school around 2008-2012. Now I walk around I feel like I'm in end fucking days. Back in covid lock down it was even more creepy you could see down entire blocks and blocks of empty people and no cars.
I like it better that way, I don't get you people yall complain about how overpopulated & busy the city is & know that it easier to commute & less pack it a problem. Like oh my fucking God, you stupid California's are never pleased
California news paranoia. Not like that in Florida. Thankfully!
I was there at 7pm on a weekday last week and it was scary dead. Used to be full of people getting off of work..having dinner and happy hour but it’s like ghost town now. Haven’t been out since around Feb and safe to say I haven’t missed out on anything.
Very good narration on your walls. Keep up the good work. Enjoying it.
Tadich grill is the oldest continuously running restaurant in SF but it was not always at that exact location. It burned in the earthquake and then redevelopment in the 1960’s forced it to move to its current location. Love these walking videos please continue! And the time being 4:00 was fine - commute time was from 3:00 to 7:00 back in pre-Covid times.
That’s crazy you know it’s bad there because you see no people lined up for the bus 🚎 around 3:00 to 5:30 you will see lots of people waiting for the bus in your videos you see no one wow 😎 great video 👍 I showed it to son he works in that area he happy to work from home 🏠
That small building was a flower shop. :)
Nice video bro. The reality of SF.
So I worked at 50 California St. in 1982. Watching your video reminded me of walking the area when you couldn’t walk without bumping into people left and right. Very sad to see it so dead.
Just got finished watching your other live where you were walking near that uber HQ, thanks for showing us San Fran!
i miss it so much but i am glad i don't live there anymore, thanks to your videos. cheers !
I've worked in the financial district for more than 20 years. Montgomery street is always crowded with tons of people walking on the sidewalks and what not. Stores are always bustling. This scene for a weekday late afternoon is barren and pretty sad. Basically nobody is working in those buildings. Nobody is taking muni or bart into downtown financial center. Btw, I'm working remotely.
I used to walk home on the route you took, it used to be packed on my walk. That 24 hour fitness was my gym. This looks more like a Sunday. What a drastic change.
I like your videos 📹 💲💥✔💯💪👍
can you go to japantown
That def looks like a holiday or a Sunday….when I worked there in 1982 there would be 100s of men And woman in business suits walking fast up and down the streets of the financial district.
Me too, in the 80s. A real city with real people working for a living.
I used to work at 100 Pine St and 101 Market St about 30 years ago and people would literally bump into each... especially early morning during lunch and rush home... now it's deserted WOW 😳
That reminds me of when to lunch during a weekday and tons of people bumping into each other to get lunch. Lol!
@@jbar_85 Yup ur so right👍
It took me 5 hours once to get out of the city across the Bay Bridge. This is so weird.
I used to work at corner at 333 Bush and now it looks very slow.
Sad. Not my city anymore.
Downtown Toronto is exactly as empty as downtown SFO during lunch break & after work
Sacramento looks exactly like this, downtown is deadorama.
Yeah J, the City has ALWAYS been insane and dangerous. It's just never been this dead before, at least not in my 20+ years of experience with SF.
You’re a great narrator
@Jermaine.........Mark Weins just did a Bay area episode on his channel and he covered the Tadich Gril, seems like a good place to eat.
The only time the FiDi was that empty before the pandemic was 4th of July during the day and New Years Day!
Im really surprised that escape from ny on bush st is still open, surely theyre hanging on for dear life. You know things are dire when banks and credit unions have closed branches in the financial district. Doesnt bode well for the city or country for that matter.
Until office workers come back, this is what it is.
At this rate, they better convert them to condos. Lots of lazies don’t want to give up their sleepwear to come into work.
Do you still see moving trucks everywhere or has that stopped? Btw, there seems to be a Chase Bank on every block.
Should of gone down Kearney Street!
Ok,
Well you probably know your city better then i do but im originally from nyc a yeah its is alit early.
Believe it or not nyc rush hours are really more like 5:30-pm to 6:30-pm and it would kinda look the same around 4:30-pm to so you mite be alit early out there. But you gotta itmit its nice to be able to move around out there with out the hustle and bustle right...?....lol
Just enjoy it befor it all comes back..!
It’s still a beautiful city I’m hoping things will get better in 2022 but I’m not holding my breath!!!!🤨
16:56 it was a flower shop...
I don't know if you can just walk in off the street, but the inside of the Hyatt Regency would be cool for viewers not from the area
You’ll be doing some fun shit Jermaine I’m a catch up with you one day when I’m there I swear to God I just be missing you
Are all the head shops in the Haight closed?
I'd like to see what upper/lower haight look like right now. I used to work security at Amoeba and lived right off Haight...it was always lively.
Woah so sad what sf has become we first of all need a new mayor and council members!! Sf is such a beautiful city with tons of history and beauty I been going there my whole life and after covid and all the crime the city is not the same makes me sad! The city gave me hope and dreams I loved the city I still do but it’s not my first choice anymore :(
44 Montgomery! Giving away office space for free rn
I’m just across the Bay and enjoy your videos. Unlike most, I’m kinda happy with the dead situation. It just makes a nice change from decades of growth. I can actually pop
over and go to a shop, restaurant, or just hangout for a while. It is not the traffic/parking ordeal it once was. Ima enjoy it while it lasts.
That is my favorite dispensary I know exactly where it is but I will not say the name either but that’s why I go🔋
Mark Wiens said that's the oldest restaurant in Cali.
Would a meter maid ticket a car that's been broken into?
yes they would sadly
I know it's not really FiDi but I was hoping for a peek at 6th and Mission... is it still off the hook?
Yes it still is!
Empty place now!
👋🎄🎄Very Disappointed to what this City has turned into🤔🤔.. Thanks for sharing,. Jermaine..👍🙏😁🎄🎄💞🇬🇧🇬🇧
Do you think San Francisco will ever be the same again?
Maybe after the people stop voting for the shitty politicians they are in charge right now and after the real estate prices start going down
It's always this dead since pandemic. Used to work at that corner and prepandemic you had to jossle for position to cross the street.
11:07 that's a cable car, trollies are busses with the two prong out of the roof.
Enjoy these walks. Keep it up. Dogpatch?
The work from home craze is very destructive.
I know a lot of sf peeps that moved to Florida. They work remotely and also visit the other cities. They aren’t interested in coming back to Cali.
when people stop coming to city, the city loses lot of the parking revenue and the parking violation fees. I would be afraid to walk in these streets because it is easy to become a target of getting mugged,robbed/beaten up. I bet there are car breakins in these streets.
This is GOOD, bro! Let the techie folks STAY HOME to work. Turn the empty office buildings into public housing and community centers. BTW...mainstream media is blaming people not wanting to work shit jobs and insisting on staying home as the problem. It's a lot more complicated than that, yo. As a longtime Cali and SF resident, I dig this. Gives you ROOM TO BREATHE!! Keep up the good work!
It’s so fucking empty
When Tech entered SF it was end for that city. That city needs to shed it self of tech.
this is nothing to do with the tech. The city was rocking when techies were in town. This is due to pandemic, violent george floyd protests, lootings, car breakins, attacks on Asians, smash m grab robberies..you should know better.
Kinda like saying when capitalism entered society, that was the end of the world. The world needs to rid itself of capitalism. Or are you suggesting we should address income disparity? I'm confused...
@@kanank13 Come on, you think things were great in 2019. That city has been getting bad since around 2014. Tech bros contribute nothing to the city, they aren't tied to one place, some left as soon as lock downs happened.
People work virtually more than ever, with the pandemic adding more people to the ranks. The financial industry, and various other office jobs, are prime examples. Less office workers is a worldwide phenomenon. It's not that people are unemployed. Businesses are pleading for workers, it's just that work locations have changed. It's not just San Francisco. When the pandemic ends, this trend won't end. People and businesses will keep working virtually. The Tadich Grill (14:09) I have eaten at. It was several years ago for lunch during the weekend. The place was packed. I ate at the counter. Probably not as busy now, as office workers are working from home.
You post old footage Jermaine. DTSF does not look empty no more. I wish..
Stop acting like a white nationalist ✊🏾
Sf is great 🌈!!!!
