Dang, wish I saw your review before I struggled with making my own tool from galvanized fence wire. I will look for a cotter pin that matches your fix!
Great DIY tool. I made one with some solid 12 AWG wire I had at the house. Flatten the wire with a hammer. No drill bit needed - a center punch makes a good enough divot in the copper.. I still had to file, so 14 AWG solid wire might also work.
