I'm rather excited to watch her "Transforming her Home and with a MidCentury Modern Theme! My go to style. I hope she finds a couple of walls that will serve as points for some contrasting darker color, texture, and elements, like stone with Soft Black , Sable Brown, or even a Metallic/Stainless Steel, Aluminum, or Copper option. Admist the neutrals these will give her that real MidCentury feel that exciting. I don't know about changing the flat doors though, only a long rectangle with colored glass, or a geometric venier application, comes to mind as a fit MidCentury, but I know you'll see to that fit. The wood element is key, and Frank Lloyd Wright's home offer a look at elements that capture the true MidCentury era. I love his works and his having arrived during the end of the Victorian, (that beyond cluttered to Clusters of Layers and everything on display on heavy brocades), was clearly why he *"labeled Interior Decorators" ="Inferior Desecrators",* ... and he was quite accurate, they destroyed the lines and flow of the Architecture with all those prints. To take a Victorian era Home and strip all the Paper off, all the multi-details, and paint them 3 shades of light, gives an opportunity feel the heights and depths, and enjoy a few pieces with calm in the space. But I digress. This is going to be a Fun and exciting experience with your friend and she's going to Love her new space. It will look way larger, and feel so open and flowing! My high end tips: Choose neutral timeless solid color furniture. If you want color and prints, you can do that with drapes, pillows and accessories. Easy to change out. Same with paint and easy to remove wallpaper. Pick a wood color and a metal color and stay consistent. Matching furniture sets also look less expensive. Mix it up. Also… Your home should flow. With the exception of kids rooms (If you let your kids pick their own colors), the rooms and design choice should flow room to room. Example: if you’re going with the mid century modern look, then keep that consistent throughout the house You don’t want to have mid-century modern in one room, then, antiques in another room, then a coastal look in another room, it just doesn’t flow or look high end. I used to stage homes and all my furniture flowed and worked together room to room. Plus, don’t forget plants! If you can, include live plants or at least real looking faux plants. Avoid plastic looking cheap plants and flowers. ❤ Just my 2 cents

I used Sherwin Williams "Sea Salt" in my guest bathroom. It is a soft green with a hint of blue. The tone changes with accessories, such as shower curtain and towels. It is lovely. I also used Sherwin Williams "Agreeable Gray" throughout the entire house. It is not gray, but more of a warm, neutral greige. It is beautiful and changes with the light in the room. I used SW "Moon Mist" in the master bathroom. It is a very soft, light, pure blue with no green and is a serene and happy color.

First I LOVE Leah, and it was very smart of her to consult a professional. The designer pointed out things that really wouldn't occur to most people. I would highly recommend getting a designer's opinion even if you live in a double wide. I am an architect and considered a good designer, but with interiors, my mind doesn't work that way. Be sure to pay these professionals, and be wary of any "free advise", usually they are not competent, and are try to sell you something. 1 or 2 hundred for an hour is a small price to pay for an hour of a professional's advice, spare yourself sometimes thousands in regrets and do overs.
We had book shelves built in but before the build, I painted the wall which was heavily textured, (was that way when we bought the house) black, it looked like slate and looked so beautiful. I love built in’s but so few know how to style them, and it over whelms them when a Google search of how to style them would be so helpful. And, watching videos like yours really give some great tips. I also love that you’ll thrift, like several other You Tubers do as well.
What a fun video! We moved from CA to Idaho two years ago when everyone was moving here, so we bought our house without seeing it in person. Well needless to say it was a lot worse than we thought! The first time we came to see it we realized that before we could move in we had to have someone come in and change out all the flooring, and paint all the inside and the outside! It truly was the most hideous house in the nicest neighborhood! We have been doing small projects since then. Thank you Natalie I will definitely be following Leah!
Leah and Natalee Wow! A great combination of talented ladies. We took a nasty 1950s bath and had the tile and fixtures sprayed white. Replaced the vanity and bought a new sink and marble remnant for the counter. A few tiles had to be replaced, but the technician replaced them and then sprayed to match the new finish. Above the tiles, we used Sherwin Williams' Sea Salt which is beautiful. We had a plumber fix the old tub stem valves and replace the handles. For under $2,000, the bathroom looked timelessly elegant. It has held up beautifully. Another wonderful color is Benjamin Moore's Manchester Tan. A beautiful warm neutral equally at home with mid century modern and old Victorian. Keep us updated on the progress. I can't see what you two ladies can do. As Leah says YOU CAN DO IT!
Love Leah! Her "you can do this" message has pushed me to try my own DIY home improvements from putting in a new bathroom faucet (and, in the process, vanity) to changing out electrical outlets 'cause mine were worn out and the plugs were falling out. Can't wait to see the collab results!
I get so much inspiration from your channel! I even raised my curtains from your suggestion in one of your videos. They look great! We have a "works a house into home" project when we bought our home a few yrs ago. We did a room at a time with all the outlets having to be replaced and rewired first. We have the master room left to floor and add a new bed to complete then we are finally done. I just love your energy in your videos and can't wait till your next one. Take care, stay safe!

A friend of mine had Jadeite colored sink and bathtub in her bathroom. She was going to paint it Burgundy! I was ruthless when i told her NO!!!!!! I suggested to do the same color to match the jadeite .......... It turned our lovely and its been about 8 years and she still has it! I would go with a lovely floral wallpaper with the same pink and green that is in the tile. It would elevate it to a new height! So many to choose from ! With white accessories !
Wipe the old wallpaper down with warm water and immediately spray down wallpaper with diet 7up and only diet 7 up and it melts off the wall and then wipe walls down with warm water and you're set to paint or repaper.....a professional painter told me to do this on a home I bought in the 1970s and it was on plaster walls ...it is harder to get off plaster.

I love, love, love SW Silver Clamshell. It is a warm greige. It is the BEST timeless neutral I have ever come across. In my opinion it is not too light, and not too dark. It can pick up BOTH warm and cool undertones. This color is absolutely FANTASTIC under all types of lighting as well. We had a difficult time finding the right paint color for our tri-level because the natural and artificial lighting in each room was so different from the next. The kitchen and main living spaces are open to each other, with the kitchen on the main and living room on the lower. The SW Silver Clamshell tied the rooms together, and looked great under natural light, as well as the warm, softer lighting in the living area and the cool, bright lighting in the kitchen. We are moving soon, and I will definitely be using it again in the main living spaces in our next home! We pair it with Behr Swiss Coffee on the ceilings and also used it in our small entry and stairwell to bright up those small spaces.
I'm no designer but I repainted my entire home twice..the last being gray w/ white trim and doors..Love it!! Feels timeless/airy to me and I just add pops of color (soft pinks) here and there with silver accents and repainted my stone fireplace bright white. I'm not in to trends and don't care what's in or not..I like what I like. I have always like the country look (now called Farmhouse) so was actually glad to be able to find those items. No regrets! Absolutely love your work!

I loved this video! I would love to see more content for choosing a paint palette! I have a hard time narrowing down the choices to the point I get so frustrated. I have a very open floor plan and have had the saaaame paint color for almost 10 years, so yeah, I'd love your input! I loved your comment about being able to see the potential in any house. My dear sister pulled up roots and moved to my state after she retired. We had spent twenty five years in different states. When the housing market went crazy there were absolutely no homes for sale in our area. I found a nice house for her, but oh my it needed so much work. We have worked our hearts out, but she now has a lovely spacious home, and she is mortgage free. I love your work, and you inspire me to keep going on projects. I'm 71 but I still love to create better and nicer things for my home.
I used color by Sherwin Williams called Watery, its aqua but pale. We loved it so much in the family room, we did our master bedroom in this color too. It was done 4 years ago, we still LOVE IT! WE are going to change the wall color in the kitchen late spring. Then summer or fall repaint the cabinets a darker color below, a bit lighter on upper cabinets. Or all of it medium dark.
this was Fun. Leah has given so much grounded and practical advice that always makes me feel courageous to DIY. Classy mid-century modern will be great. I hope we get to see her new home as it emerges.

Tip: test the paint color at home with your furniture and pictures. My house was a dark taupe when I bought It--far too dark with inadequate natural light, so I paid to have the whole house repainted. I chose ivory which ended up an exact match to Waverly's Ivory chalk paint--a happy color but far more yellow than the beige undertone I wanted. I even took my sofa cushion to the store for a good match. It looked perfect under the store's lighting and beautiful going on the walls. As soon as my sofa came in and my pictures were hung, it definitely was not the color I expected. The professional paint job busted my budget, so I live with the color and the irritation that it wasn't exactly what I wanted. Funny thing is that I did not have the trim painted and it is actually not white but the ivory I wanted. (It looked white against the taupe.) I should have used Navajo White instead of Medici Ivory. Still, far better than that depressing taupe.
Picking my white for my walls was so difficult. You are so right white is not white and warm or cool it will look different in every room. It took me 8 months to find the correct white. The ladies at the paint store knew me well. Lol
@@designedtothenines Sherwin Williams Greek Villa. I have painted the family room-kitchen and am hiring a painter to do the foyer and living-dinning. The ceilings are to high for me in those. It is a beautiful white that works in sunlight and little sunlight.
I watch design to the nines more, but since I watch so many woodworking channels (without actually ever doing any woodworking🤦🏻♀️) I found see jane drill a year or more before I found design to the nines. It's pretty cool you're friends, I had no idea! I enjoyed the videos! Now my chronic illness is being treated and I no longer have infants maybe I can do something power tool related. I want to sand and stain a planterbench and paint my 4 year old daughter's room for my first 2 house projects
I am not a real do-it-yourself person, but I did tackle crown molding in my craft room. They have corner pieces for crown molding so I didn't have to miter it and I watched a video where the guy so a trick to get the angle right. I followed the instructions and it turned out great. the room was only 10x10 so it wasn't huge. Give it a try!
I epoxized my kitchen counter top. Originally it looked like leather & after 20 years it looked worn so I painted with epoxy in an almond color. You couldn't tell it was painted. The reason I painted it as it was textured like leather so it had to be replaced or painted, you couldn't just glue formica over the existing counter top. This paint lasted over 25 years.

If you have some blemishes on the walls you would like to coverup but scared to use a dated wallpaper, try the paintable kind. You can paint over and over then change if the decorating desires change!
I'm so glad you mentioned those outlets. When I got married, I made my husband replace the almond outlets and switches to white rocker and contemporary ones. What a difference it made! Funnily enough, the previous owners of our house have a mix of switches and outlets. Those will be changed and I don't have to beg Ken to do it. I'm going to follow Jane Can Drill! Also, I agree with you about neutral paint, but the previous owners had Pratt & Lambert Charming Peach in the dining room. It's nice, but then after my aunt died, I took her art work and the painting she had in her netural living room was unnoticeable. Now it pops against that peach wall! And the master bathroom had 24" neutral tiles and bright lime green walls. I kept that because it's still stunning after seven years of living there! Can dark wooden floors be bleached? We have three different colors of wooden floors!
Great video ! Loved the ideas. I purchased my parents house that was built in 1980 and I have that same pink tile. Its in great shape, but the color !!! I did try to DIY it and paint it white, ooooo disaster! I'm still stuck with it, and tried to camouflage everything else around it with white. Natalee, It would be so neat to see a walk around the exterior and your recommendations there too. I saw those rod iron pillars and wondered: should they stay or should they go? I like a lot of your suggestions. One thing many here may wonder is is it ever worth vaulting the ceilings in these 1970-80's homes? I love my wallpaper! I don’t mind repeatedly changing it either ! It elevates the house for me!! When I leave a home I do strip it back and I’ve sold both my houses in one day of it going on market but I do think here in uk we are more adventurous!
Hi I love your videos and everything you do. Thank you. I have a big wrought iron outdoor firewood rack …we won’t be using it for firewood. Any ideas on repurposing it for something else that looks nice? Indoor or outdoor ideas are welcome…the only thing I could think of so far was to roll blankets since I have a million blankets lol. But I would like to get an outdoor idea for decor to display in front of white siding. We don’t want to do wood because of mice etc. Live in the country with lots of wildlife.

My daughter bought the ulgyist house that has not been updated since it was built in the 60s it has holes in the walls holes in the floor. But my daughter has 2 small boys and is now single. I’ve been in wallpaper you know where since December when I bought my house. Two layers of paint in between each layer…WHY, WHY, WHY??? But I’m taking your advice for sure and tackling each project one at a time. Thank you for the paint suggestions! I originally was going with a gray but have since changed my mind per your suggestions. I want timeless so I don’t have to paint again for a while. I do have a question though…floor color? Love this! IDEA…looking forward to crown molding video. What about using crown molding as a “tray ceiling” effect and using lights (hidden) to illuminate ceiling? Could be any room, including a bathroom. Love this look and the evening ambiance.
I know you always say "elevate" and have an eye to making things more expensive looking, I think I'm just interested in getting this rental looking more cohesive and less chaotic with the choices in paint, flooring, windows and DOORS! It is so right that just having neutral and uniform fixtures/treatments can bring a sense of ease (I say this as I scan the 4 different flooring types, 6 wall colors, 2 different door colors as well as oddly treated trim...). Maybe I need to spend less time at home!
@@designedtothenines My one request would be to not include too much of the command hooks as those have an unpredictable nature...maybe more of those monkey sheet rock hooks and some of that magic tape? I'm already thinking of how to cover more of the floor (possible trip to Ikea for those deck tiles?) so I have a more unified look. And a call to the landlady about painting the 2 brown doors and their trim to match the rest of the white ones too!) thanks for reminding of what all can be done to improve things here!

Remember ideas are just ideas. Make your home a place that is comfortable and portrays what you like. Even if it is not on trend.

We have a "works a house into home" project when we bought our home a few yrs ago. We did a room at a time with all the outlets having to be replaced and rewired first. A friend of mine had Jadeite colored sink and bathtub in her bathroom. She was going to paint it Burgundy! I was ruthless when i told her NO!!!!!! I suggested to do the same color to match the jadeite .......... It turned our lovely and its been about 8 years and she still has it!
I would go with a lovely floral wallpaper with the same pink and green that is in the tile. It would elevate it to a new height! So many to choose from ! With white accessories !
Wipe the old wallpaper down with warm water and immediately spray down wallpaper with diet 7up and only diet 7 up and it melts off the wall and then wipe walls down with warm water and you're set to paint or repaper.....a professional painter told me to do this on a home I bought in the 1970s and it was on plaster walls ...it is harder to get off plaster.

It is the BEST timeless neutral I have ever come across. In my opinion it is not too light, and not too dark. It can pick up BOTH warm and cool undertones. This color is absolutely FANTASTIC under all types of lighting as well.
We had a difficult time finding the right paint color for our tri-level because the natural and artificial lighting in each room was so different from the next.
The kitchen and main living spaces are open to each other, with the kitchen on the main and living room on the lower. The SW Silver Clamshell tied the rooms together, and looked great under natural light, as well as the warm, softer lighting in the living area and the cool, bright lighting in the kitchen.
We are moving soon, and I will definitely be using it again in the main living spaces in our next home!
We pair it with Behr Swiss Coffee on the ceilings and also used it in our small entry and stairwell to bright up those small spaces.
I'm no designer but I repainted my entire home twice..the last being gray w/ white trim and doors..Love it!! Feels timeless/airy to me and I just add pops of color (soft pinks) here and there with silver accents and repainted my stone fireplace bright white. I'm not in to trends and don't care what's in or not..I like what I like. I have always like the country look (now called Farmhouse) so was actually glad to be able to find those items. No regrets! Absolutely love your work!

I loved your comment about being able to see the potential in any house. My dear sister pulled up roots and moved to my state after she retired. We had spent twenty
five years in different states. When the housing market went crazy there were absolutely no homes for sale in our area. I found a nice house for her, but oh my it needed so much work. We have worked our hearts out, but she now has a lovely spacious home, and she is mortgage free.
I love your work, and you inspire me to keep going on projects. I'm 71 but I still love to create better and nicer things for my home.

I used color by Sherwin Williams called Watery, its aqua but pale. We loved it so much in the family room, we did our master bedroom in this color too. It was done 4 years ago, we still LOVE IT! WE are going to change the wall color in the kitchen late spring. Then summer or fall repaint the cabinets a darker color below, a bit lighter on upper cabinets. Or all of it medium dark.
this was Fun. Leah has given so much grounded and practical advice that always makes me feel courageous to DIY. Classy mid-century modern will be great. I hope we get to see her new home as it emerges.

Tip: test the paint color at home with your furniture and pictures. My house was a dark taupe when I bought It--far too dark with inadequate natural light, so I paid to have the whole house repainted. I chose ivory which ended up an exact match to Waverly's Ivory chalk paint--a happy color but far more yellow than the beige undertone I wanted. I even took my sofa cushion to the store for a good match. It looked perfect under the store's lighting and beautiful going on the walls. As soon as my sofa came in and my pictures were hung, it definitely was not the color I expected. The professional paint job busted my budget, so I live with the color and the irritation that it wasn't exactly what I wanted. Funny thing is that I did not have the trim painted and it is actually not white but the ivory I wanted. (It looked white against the taupe.) I should have used Navajo White instead of Medici Ivory. Still, far better than that depressing taupe.

Picking my white for my walls was so difficult. You are so right white is not white and warm or cool it will look different in every room. It took me 8 months to find the correct white. The ladies at the paint store knew me well. Lol

I watch design to the nines more, but since I watch so many woodworking channels (without actually ever doing any woodworking🤦🏻♀️) I found see jane drill a year or more before I found design to the nines. It's pretty cool you're friends, I had no idea! I enjoyed the videos! Now my chronic illness is being treated and I no longer have infants maybe I can do something power tool related. I want to sand and stain a planterbench and paint my 4 year old daughter's room for my first 2 house projects
I am not a real do-it-yourself person, but I did tackle crown molding in my craft room. They have corner pieces for crown molding so I didn't have to miter it and I watched a video where the guy so a trick to get the angle right. I followed the instructions and it turned out great. the room was only 10x10 so it wasn't huge. Give it a try!
I epoxized my kitchen counter top. Originally it looked like leather & after 20 years it looked worn so I painted with epoxy in an almond color. You couldn't tell it was painted. The reason I painted it as it was textured like leather so it had to be replaced or painted, you couldn't just glue formica over the existing counter top. This paint lasted over 25 years.

If you have some blemishes on the walls you would like to coverup but scared to use a dated wallpaper, try the paintable kind. You can paint over and over then change if the decorating desires change!
I'm so glad you mentioned those outlets. When I got married, I made my husband replace the almond outlets and switches to white rocker and contemporary ones. What a difference it made! Funnily enough, the previous owners of our house have a mix of switches and outlets. Those will be changed and I don't have to beg Ken to do it. I'm going to follow Jane Can Drill! Also, I agree with you about neutral paint, but the previous owners had Pratt & Lambert Charming Peach in the dining room. It's nice, but then after my aunt died, I took her art work and the painting she had in her netural living room was unnoticeable. Now it pops against that peach wall! And the master bathroom had 24" neutral tiles and bright lime green walls. I kept that because it's still stunning after seven years of living there! Can dark wooden floors be bleached? We have three different colors of wooden floors!
They would need to be sanded down and probably whitewashed. 💕
Great video ! Loved the ideas. I purchased my parents house that was built in 1980 and I have that same pink tile. Its in great shape, but the color !!! I did try to DIY it and paint it white, ooooo disaster! I'm still stuck with it, and tried to camouflage everything else around it with white. White towels, shower curtain, etc etc. It's acceptable, but I love the idea of finding a company that can re-glaze it ! Thank you ! From, NOT PRETTY IN PINK, Canada xo
Natalee, It would be so neat to see a walk around the exterior and your recommendations there too. I saw those rod iron pillars and wondered: should they stay or should they go? I like a lot of your suggestions. One thing many here may wonder is is it ever worth vaulting the ceilings in these 1970-80's homes? Hi I love your videos and everything you do. Thank you. I have a big wrought iron outdoor firewood rack …we won’t be using it for firewood. Any ideas on repurposing it for something else that looks nice? Indoor or outdoor ideas are welcome…the only thing I could think of so far was to roll blankets since I have a million blankets lol. But I would like to get an outdoor idea for decor to display in front of white siding. We don’t want to do wood because of mice etc. Live in the country with lots of wildlife.

My daughter bought the ulgyist house that has not been updated since it was built in the 60s it has holes in the walls holes in the floor. But my daughter has 2 small boys and is now single. We will have a lot of work so I'm hoping you will show us how to do the renos.

I’ve been in wallpaper you know where since December when I bought my house. Two layers of paint in between each layer…WHY, WHY, WHY??? But I’m taking your advice for sure and tackling each project one at a time. Thank you for the paint suggestions! I originally was going with a gray but have since changed my mind per your suggestions. I want timeless so I don’t have to paint again for a while. I do have a question though…floor color? I know you always say "elevate" and have an eye to making things more expensive looking, I think I'm just interested in getting this rental looking more cohesive and less chaotic with the choices in paint, flooring, windows and DOORS! It is so right that just having neutral and uniform fixtures/treatments can bring a sense of ease (I say this as I scan the 4 different flooring types, 6 wall colors, 2 different door colors as well as oddly treated trim...). Maybe I need to spend less time at home!

@@designedtothenines My one request would be to not include too much of the command hooks as those have an unpredictable nature...maybe more of those monkey sheet rock hooks and some of that magic tape? I'm already thinking of how to cover more of the floor (possible trip to Ikea for those deck tiles?) so I have a more unified look. And a call to the landlady about painting the 2 brown doors and their trim to match the rest of the white ones too!) thanks for reminding of what all can be done to improve things here!
