      @@scumknight6074he said "when I decided to go back to overwatch" so he lost his skill, so of course he dropped
      When I stopped playing overwatch and returned my skill dropped from GM (OW 1) to high plat-low diamond (OW2). Yes, that was a long break I know
      It does feel kinda painful knowing I was there in GM now struggling in plat/low diamond. The game is so much different now

    There’s a HUGE issue in low ranks that you didn’t hit on. Something I’ve noticed in plat and below is people hold ults for 5-10 minutes or never use it the WHOLE game (I’ve seen that so much). Another thing they do with ults is they stack all the ults, and when one person ults then EVERYONE ults. These aren’t things I see happening once in a while it’s every single match. So many winnable games and team fights are lost because people just hold their ults, which can make it hard to rank up. I remember what helped me get to diamond back in OW1 was watching top 500 streamers and I noticed they would ult as soon as they were able to get value out of it. I used to play a lot of Zarya and enjoyed watching Harbleu. What I noticed was as soon as he got grav he would immediately chuck it and get kills. I implemented this into my gameplay and noticed that you can create an aggressive perpetual ult cycle where you do lots of damage/get kills, build ult, use it, and do it again (or using support ults to save someone or the whole team) Not saying that as soon as your ult hits 100% you should use it, but you should use it right away if you can secure at least 1 kill, bait out an ult, create space, etc. It’s pretty situational but you shouldn’t be holding ults the whole match, always try to use them as soon as you can.

    • @prismaticpaul
      @prismaticpaul 7 місяців тому +19

      the stacking ults part is so true. I played some dps this comp season (only like 12 games lol but hey), and if i notice our team use 3 or even 4 ults i'll hold mine. I play echo and torb, torb ult on its own can be very good (i use it to zone people off of kitsune for example), and an echo copy at the right moment can turn a fight or end it early, even. No need to use more ults if you're in a 5v2 and winning by a landslide.
      I'm guilty of holding ults sometimes though. Mostly why i do this is because in some games my teammates just get picked off before i get in position so my ult won't be very impactful now, but i admit i sometimes lose patience instead of waiting for my team to regroup once again, because sitting on an ult and not using it feels so awful.

    • @STartist.
      @STartist. 7 місяців тому +7

      Yeah unfortunately low ranked players can't even conceptualize tracking enemy or even team ult percentages much less min maxing ults and ult fights by cycling them efficiently.

    • @peterwowfan
      @peterwowfan 7 місяців тому +5

      I mean he didn't touch on it specifically but I think that falls under the idea of "what mistakes can I make less of" and "what can I do better" and also the idea of learning better mechanics . as you rank up you will start getting lobbies where you will start seeing different strats and your game sense improves as you go up

    • @BellaOfTheBrawl
      @BellaOfTheBrawl 7 місяців тому +8

      @@STartist.I play in silver and players are capable of tracking ults. What they struggle with is knowing what to do with that information, planning, and properly executing it. You can call out "Reaper has ult" all day long. You and half your team will probably still die to blossom, because no one actually knows how to follow up and hopes someone else will just kill Reaper or Reaper will waste it. That's the real problem in lower ranks, not the tracking part.

    • @jimjimsauce
      @jimjimsauce 7 місяців тому +1

      true. i’m a lucio main and when i get beat i usually try to offset my ult to save them for when my team inevitably does what you stated. but ive noticed after i started doing that, my teammates acknowledge it so much more. i think not only does it help in a game sense but it’s a morale booster as well

    If you are going to dedicate time to trying to get better at Overwatch, then 1. Get 8 hours of sleep after every session (will help with retention), 2. Make sure your diet is getting close to if not achieving a nutritional state with your vitamins, minerals, carbs, fats and proteins. 3. Exercise will improve everything across your whole life. Big tip to rank up: Don't use chat. If you don't use the chat (text and coms) you have a statistically higher chance for teammates to not throw. Not huge odds, just 4x the likelihood your teammates don't sell. In inverse is true, don't start talking, if you do you will have 4x more bad teammates
    Edit: Overall this guy has good advice, the only thing to add that nobody talks about is how long it will take to rank up. Each rank is a learning experience so don't worry about anything other than being a better player

    As a widow main, one thing that helped me climb to top 50 is to learn the patterns of each player on the other team and to exploit them. Once you have enough gamesense you can manipulate the other team to throw cooldowns or ults on demand if you coordinate with your team well. Also for the hitscan dps players, having good raw mechanics can carry you to diamond even with 0 gamesense. GL

    As a player who’s climbed from bronze to GM myself over the years, here’s my take (I’m a tank player btw).
    GET A DEEP UNDERSTANDING OF MACRO!!! If you understand your win conditions, and tempo you’ll win more fights. These 2 things alone can get you to high elo alone. Climbing isn’t about making mistakes, you cannot carry this way. Identifying mistakes and punishing does. Once you understand these 2 concepts, you can improve quickly by looking at fights differently than everyone in low elo.
    Also a firm believer in a smaller hero pool. I went from bronze to diamond playing rein only. It taught me a lot about manipulating fights, and when I picked up hero’s like monkey it made me way more creative with my approach to fights.
    TLDR: learn macro, one trick for a while once you understand it. Once you climb a to above average elo you have a comfort pick, and can start branching out.

    The mood thing for sure is true. When i actually tried to rank up I was calling shots and setting a good mood and that got me to high masters on all my roles relatively quickly in one season.
    When i saw my first GM's and t500 instead of getting intimidated because of some dumb rank i just took it less serious and not making a big deal out of it.
    Mindset can greatly improve your performances.

      This is such an underrated part of ranked. I hit diamond back in season 10 after trying to get it for like 3 months (I was low plat before). Once I hit diamond, I took a break, got rusty and deranked back to low plat. It tilted me, and I'd say about 2 weeks ago I started trying again with an open mind, and not caring about my rank. I'm now back in diamond lol. It's actually wild how much your mental affects your gameplay

    I started playing OW2 in season 2. In my first ever season I was plat. By season 7 i hit GM1 and I currently sit comfortably in T500 after 700 hours on the game. I agree with your point that anyone can rank up if they commit to improving. I have never been mechanically gifted at any fps I’ve played but mastering the fundamentals helped me a lot. Things like positioning, ult usage, crosshair placement, decision making, etc are simple things that make a big difference over time.

  • @DarthSpock1

    Excellent advice. And a key point you alluded to is patience. One mistake I made was playing lot's of QP but only maybe a dozen or so ranked games per season. And while I never had huge expectations, starting off at bronze 5, yeah... was a bit of an ego blow. Coupled with seeing an abnormal amount of games, as you noted, where I'd have leavers or throwers was discouraging. But it is indeed a numbers game.
    Certainly I've improved over time, but the biggest difference I've had in the last 2 seasons is actually playing ranked games more often. I went from barely seeing sliver (sometimes) in the first 8 seasons, to rapidly climbing in gold with plat looking very attainable, just by keeping cool and persisting.

I got gm5 onetricking doom in season 5 back when orisa illiari was meta. Meta is useless until very high up in the ranks. Another thing would be if you don't even know a mistake exists watching coaches could help. The one I learned from is Spilo. Very high quality advice. He worked with the london spitfire as their coach for a long time. He has 2 channels, spilo and spilo 2. Ive got 7 accounts for playing with friends or learning new shit, from plat to Gm2 in s9.
    Knowing how each rank plays is HUGE. I found myself occasionally feeding in games where i was far and away the strongest individual on the map, because I was running dives like I was in my own MMR. The people I played with just couldn't make decisions and take initiative fast enough to join me, and no one 1v5s . One small adjustment and I had 3 games in a row without a single death as ball
    Another big one is speed and pacing is everything, making a decision quickly, be it right or wrong. Dont ever let the enemy do what they want to do

    Random tip: DPI affects input lag. A higher DPI = lower input lag, although resulting in diminishing returns with higher DPI values. for best results, use a DPI of 3200 (or greater). 3200 DPI results in a significant reduction in latency compared to 800 DPI.

    Great video, and I agree with pretty much everything you said.
    I'm one of those players who thinks they deserve a higher rank. In my case, it's because I play ~12 competitive games per season (if that). I know that this will limit me, and I accept it. It also throws off the calculations you made in terms of probability in the fact that the percentage affected by any throwers/leavers will be higher (I went 8-2 on tank, placed in Plat 5 then my next three games were: leaver, flame-in-text-chat instead of playing and then a thrower. Back to gold with me!).
    I'm thinking of grinding ranked a bit over the summer holidays (I'm at university so don't have a machine to play on in term time) to see just how far I can climb. I'm hoping low masters but I'll settle for diamond. Congrats on the climb!

    I also had overwatch 1 be my first ever fps. And I too was bronze. I'm not gm, but I have hit masters. It was a slow climb but I can say it really helps to stop blaming others and accept your own mistakes. Often at the end of a game I'll tell myself "I would have won it I just hit more shots"

    Good Video, i have always told ppl if they are stuck they belong there.
    I am a plat tank since OW2 dropped. I was diamond when i played OW1 but that was before role q was introduced. And I think OW2 gave me 2 resets. I only played season 1 (placed silver went up to plat ez)
    And now season 9 placed low gold easily went up to plat again. So if you dont belong in a rank you will definetly move up.
    I also always notice the change in the ranks. I mainly play winston and where in silver and gold you can just freely move around in plat you will get punished more.
    If i wanted to put in the time i probably could back to diamond again like in OW1 but i just dont want tryhard that much and rather stay in ranks where i can make mistakes :D

    I have played this game for nearly 8+ years and it all comes down to "how much do you want to scum to climb?" My answer is 0, which is why I also don't play fighting games, so I play in Plat rank.
    I play Ball and Hog whether they are in the patch notes or not.
    This game is dedicated to perform as a low rank fighting game, keeping the carrot on the string. You learn a hero, they are "the best" ooops they are now the worst next "season" (or we call a patch.)
    I don't play the carrot/string game so I stay in Gold/Plat after 10 years. If the only answer is to "keep swapping" the problem lies within the game, not the players. This doesn't come down to whether anyone is "bad" at the game, it's how willing they are to exploit a broken patch/heroes from update to update. Many of us will not because we have self decency. This is something the game needs to take into account.

    New subsciber. Great vid. It's weird for me it seems what I've learned is difficult sometimes to put into practice I guess. I've been learning from Spilo and TooAwkward. And I know Damage, Damage, Damage, cover, Positioning, looking around constantly, and shooting from cover, and flanking. There are matches ideal with where the other 4 just feed, and never group up. There will be lobbies you can't win. Like if someone leaves the match on your team. which statistic your chances go lower. But you win the ones your supposed to.

    been sitting in the plat1 diamond 5 purgatory for a few weeks now, best piece of advice i have is to consistently play COMP. atleast 1 game per overwatch session, then once you get tired of it or lose go have fun in QP in customs or something.
    alot of my friends are too scared or to "lazy" or "dont want to queue without a group or duo". there isnt anything wrong with that but you gotta play on your own too if you want to get better

    I was happy to hear that you too have been in the lower ranks…I watched alot of videos where you could clearly tell the people giving advice had no idea what its like being in the lower ranks. However, i’m not sure if its because it was a while since you have been in lower ranks, it still seems like some of these tips are assuming things that aren’t the case. I just started playing again and I feel like in general the mechanics of both teams average out (although sometimes it feels like a huge mismatch) but the most difficult thing is team chemistry. Ive been playing support to ease back i to things, and Ive noticed that 69% of the time no one is focusing on the enemy support, while im always under pressure as support. Coincidence? So many games where the enemy mercy has 0-1 deaths and I just feel like everyone is just playing their own game, shooting at anything without any purpose. To make it worse, the change from 2 to 1 tanks makes so many games dependent on who has the better tank. Simply things like the tanks overextending and throwing the tide of a round keeps happening. I was never the type to get on mic or chat and tell people how to play, especially as I assume everyone at silver and up know about these basic tactics, but I just have a feeling that there’s alot out of your control. But as you said, focus on what you can do, and not what everyone else can do. People are going to play how they like!

  • @grandnova438
    @grandnova438 7 місяців тому +3

    I just don't have the time to climb. And low Elo games can often really fuck with your mindset. Even if your good the plays you can do are completely different between a silver lobby and a master lobby. And i KNOW this. My main has be low rank for absolute ages. At first i probably just sucked. But i also just never spent very long trynna rank up. When i actually play overwatch. I often go up atleast one rank every time (Silver2-1 type thing. Not Silver-Gold). Like 80% of the time.
    I am Silver across everything on my MAIN.
    However. A little while ago. I made an alt account. Cus I was sick of low elo games. And guess what happened? I placed plat in tank and support. MASTER in DPS. And I'm average in the master games. Above average in the other categories. (Got unlucky with placements. Which as has been shot to death as a topic matters way too much to what rank you can get unless you wanna spend months climbing.
    And to answer the obvious question of "Oh why havn't you just climbed then should be easy" First off. HAHAHA no. Even if you play out of your mind Your either gonna be doing your own thing and doing work while your team dies around you cus your not holding their hand. Or your too busy holding their hand and trynna deal with all THEIR problems to actually handle the enemy. I could not tell you how many times i have flanked the enemy at the beginning of a team battle. Killed like three of them from 100-0 no help. Looked over at the final two and see all my team dead and i get killed. Its actually infuriating.
    Plus. I do climb. 70-80 Win streak generally. But at even that win rate. Bro i don't wanna play like 10-20 games a day for a whole week just to go up ONE full rank. And good lord do i NEVER wanna do that for a whole month just to get into my actual area. At this point my main is jsut for fuckin around and having fun with friends while my alt is where i take comp seriously. Cus I am actually in a rank around my skill level. (Though good lord do my teammates still sometimes make me feel like I'm in bronze. I swear half the time the only diff between bronze and plat is how much people are screaming in VC :/ and its more at the plat end.

    A massive tip that I think is definitely the #1 most important one is to ACTUALLY PLAY THE GAME. If you watch videos all the time, play 3 games, lose, and quit only to repeat that cycle you arent learning. So just make sure you actually play with an open mind and just try to do better and apply what is correct.

    I was between 3000-4000 in OW1. I just started ow2 mid season 9. I placed bronze and made it to gold after learning the hero’s. If I play dps or heals I have a 80% win rate and just keep ranking up. For tanks I’m stuck gold 5 at like a 50-60% win rate. Anyways just fyi, that’s why I’m here :)

    This showed up in the recommended tab; so, a tip that insanely helped me to reach GM ( Solo q ) is simply watching coaching videos by @Spilo or any coach you like, just see about your role/ hero you play. & IMPORTANTLY, go back to replays & see what you did right or wrong, how did you lose that game? Or how did you win? Respectfully I do not care if your team is bad especially in low elo, you literally carry yourself. If you keep blaming teammates every single time, guess who is in those games with those teammates every time? You is the problem king just focus on what did you do wrong.
    Also, if you keep blaming your teammates or saying they have bad this bad that, you are simply living on a mindset of having your teammates winning you games, so everytime you enter a game you hope they are good or decent so you can win the game, you gamble on them rather on yourself. Below Masters no one matters but yourself & your game sense.
    Also another important tip; figure out what is their win condition. You see a zen that have not died in the past five minutes & constantly discording everyone? Deal with him yourself, you see a pharah-mercy that is annoying you? Deal with em yourself.
    Supps: go ana/ zen & bully the mercy.
    Tanks: Go Dva & Bully the mercy + important ( Throw your Dva bomb on them when they fly so they get pissed )
    Dps: multiple choices you know em.
    This is from my experience, & sorry if I mentioned the same points from the vid, but this shows you how important they are, so hope it helps anyone, remember you can not win them all, but you can learn from the loses.

    • @Muijc6l
      @Muijc6l 7 місяців тому

      There is so many other points that I could bring up & could help but they all revolves around you. Learn from your games. Do not do things mindlessly, without any reason & just because you’re used to it that way. Look back at your games. Your teammates DO NOT MATTER UNTILL YOU ARE MASTERS AND ABOVE. if they did actually matter you would not see people do a U2GM & do it in hours. Yes they are good but that proves you can try to be half as good as them & have bad teammates like they did and climb from gold to diamond.

    I've been stuck on masters/low gm for months.... on dps. It's good to try other roles too! I found out I enjoy the tank and I love the 2 min queue time instead of the dps 10-15min....
    The biggest tip that you can get is probably just stop caring so much about others and focus on yourself. Think about your positioning, track enemy ults, cooldowns its better than flaming your healer for not doing his job.
    Also, the higher you go the more intentional throwers you are going to find.
    So just try to play YOUR game and you might win even with a 0/0/7 tracer with 1k dmg in 3 minutes (Yes that happened)
