      Someone on another video told me that Purple's music was watered down Led Zep riffs, and they sounded like King Crimson and Led Zep. Not sure if he was taking his meds or not. 😕

    Excellent points here, particularly re. Bon Jovi. I think BJ were fairly influenced by DP, especially David Bryan/Rashbaum. When I first heard them, I thought some of Purple and UFO had gone into American hard rock. The blend of heavy guitar and classy keyboards - you can't beat that. Lizzy seemed the only HR band that didn't need keyboards, but even they got a keysman in from 1980.

    • @CB-xr1eg
      @CB-xr1eg 4 роки тому

      Cream didn't need keyboards...and yes they were heavy rock. Also in the 70's Quo didn't always have keyboads.

      Every Live album that isn't Made In Japan, is not a patch on Made In Japan.

    • @AlbertEinsteinSpock
      @AlbertEinsteinSpock 4 роки тому +1

      Yeah, it's not in the same league as their all-time-classic "Made in Japan", and Purple all said as much. Blackmore made a huge mistake in switching to a different type of guitar, and Gillan blew out the highest range of his vocal chords on Black Sabbath's "Born Again" tour. The surgeon told him to rest his vocal chords, but Gillan screamed his head off, instead. That's why you hear almost no screaming at all on the "Perfect Strangers" album, other than a few seconds on "Not Responsible." "Nobody's Perfect" was a major letdown and reflected Ian Gillan's alcoholism - as Lord said, Gillan couldn't remember the words on half of the 17 concerts they recorded. That's why the disc was/is garbage. More than 30 years later, Gillan was still singing and sounding good on albums and terrible in concert. Sad, because he was one of the great live singers of all time in the 1970s.

    • @CB-xr1eg
      @CB-xr1eg 4 роки тому

      @@AlbertEinsteinSpock To be fair, after Child In Time on In rock, there wasn't an awful lot of screaming on the studio albums. Gillan did scream a bit Live, as can be heard On Made In Japan...Strange Kind Of Woman.

    • @craigeyler4495
      @craigeyler4495 4 роки тому

      A couple of the songs were edited together, the first half from one date and the second half from another. Ritchie broke his hand during the show in Phoenix, which is why there's an x-ray of a hand on the record sleeve; not sure if it's included in the CD booklet. The Japanese version of the album is a double-CD and has one or two extra tracks, making up what would have been their set-list at the time (more or less).

    • @Cpayne30
      @Cpayne30 4 роки тому +2

      Gary Unsworth - Yeah, it’s pretty awful. They simply weren’t at their best. It’s widely known that Gillan was sloppy at the time but Blackmore’s playing (live, anyway) was pretty atrocious in the 80s DP.
