  • One of the most rewarding fish to target along both the Southern California Coast and its offshore islands, the California Halibut presents an exciting pursuit for novice and experienced anglers alike. The California Halibut can grow to weigh upwards of 60 pounds and 5 feet in length. As the seasons change, the locations and depths we target halibut adjust as well. In the Summer months, we often fish for halibut in the shallow water areas of the bays and head to deeper coastal waters for the Fall and Winter months.
In addition to being one of our favorite gamefish, Halibut is a favorite of many for its delicious firm white meat that makes an excellent centerpiece of a lunch or dinner platter. In this video, BD Outdoors' Pro Contributor and American Angler Crew, Griffin Fadden, demonstrates how to filet a California Halibut. Griffin's time spent working in Alaska is apparent as he makes light work of a beautiful California Halibut with the help of the ‪@DexterOutdoors‬ filet knife. This knife not only incorporates a scalloped top edge to assist cutting through areas of tough skin or large scales, but particularly its flexible qualities make filleting a halibut quick and easy. Check out this tutorial on how to filet a California Halibut, and let us know what you think about the knife!

    Nice work !
Not easy on a slippery plastic table with a slimy halibut.
Nice tip on the zipper cut, and also the cheek cut angle as well.
    Great job & Thank You.
