thank you for the actual review of it. most people just gush about how good it was. thanks for trying to describe it given your lots of cooking experience.
Day to day you might get somewhere between awesome and good. Like the guys said, there is a difference between how you would BBQ in a competition and how you would do at a restaurant. I think consistency-wise Aaron is good at delivering solid results. Some will prefer Salt Lick but for me I’ll take Franklin’s anytime.
A few years ago I did a UA-cam search on BBQ Beef Brisket and found Franklin's channel and watched his whole story of how he go into BBQ, because his first brisket he ever cooked was very chewy and he tossed it out. Also at that time I subscribed to T-Roy's channel just to learn a little more about smokers and cookers. Now, here you two fine fellas are reviewing Franklin's restaurant. How awesome, and thanks for sharing. Cheers Harry!

From their review, definitely not worth the 4-hour wait and the $488 bill. I will find another bbq joint with no long line, when I visit Texas. Thanks for the review!
I mean, he did say 30 pounds of meat. Lets just say $500 to round up, thats around $16.66/# for meat (just being general). That's about the same price you would pay elsewhere around CenTex. Rudy's, Stiles Switch, Blacks...
It’s not more than any other good place. If you come to Texas and DONT try Franklin’s, you’re missing a real treat. There are many great places in Texas, Franklins is known as one of THE best, for very good reason.
@@jlsagely6892 It's one of the best, but it's not 4 plus hours wait better then any of the other BBQ joints in the area. Don't get me wrong, if I drive by and the line look like less than 30 minutes, I'm pulling in.

I haven't been everywhere, but I have been to a lot of the most revered BBQ places in both Kansas City and Central Texas, and Franklin's brisket was the best by a very large margin. I'd gladly wait twice as long for a couple pounds of that stuff
I agree. Once of the best restaurant BBQ in America and I've eaten over 100 in Texas. Many places like Pecan Lodge are very good also but the past 10 years I've eaten at Aaron''s, his consistency is amazing for the 100+ briskets he cooks daily.
I've lived in Austin for 9 years. I finally went there last fall and the only thing that I didn't think was fabulous flavor wise was the sausage. I totally agree when you guys say you wouldn't buy it again. Personally man the pulled pork and the brisket was out of this world when I was there. Oh man so so so good. I was on the line for a while for my first here. But I was turned back home, because I only had $20 in my wallet, didnt even know how expensive this BBQ is...lmfao So the next time, I came prepared. But it was worth it...
Would I wait that long in line? No, Austin and Texas. Has plenty of great BBQ places. That prolly are just as good. Valentinas, blacks, and browns BBQ. All great!
Correct me if I’m wrong but if you do 4+lbs worth of food to go, you can forego the line and just pick up. Tried franklins and loved it! Traditional was my favorite sauce. You’re right, turkey was an unsung hero/underdog when it came to what I expected. Brisket (fatty and lean) was everything I expected and more but if you had to make me choose; fatty delivered tenfold
Yes, you can order to-do and I wanted the full experience as it makes the food taste better. Besides, you have a story to tell and get to meet cool locals and tourists in line.

@Lloyd Bonafide for my awesome crew in Los Angeles and Sacramento whom I am grateful and thankful for making my work life fun and for putting up with me for 15 years as their head tour guide! I am blessed to be surrounded by good people at work who has sacrificed many time for the team so no food that I get can repay. The smiles were priceless that they got to compare against my BBQ which they have tasted during my 15 years prior of experiments and failures
Now THESE guys need to do a Texas tour of some of the top barbecue restaurants. I would love to hear how Franklins compares to some of the other famous places in Texas or elsewhere from the perspective of champion cookers.
I have noticed from other people’s videos that the ribs were what I’d call overcooked. Just had Southern Soul’s ribs and they had a nice bite. Peg Leg excellent as well.
Hello fellow sausage aficionado! I've been known to fly across the country just to eat sausage. I serve 5 types in my BBQ class even though we cook 15+ items already!

He has amazing consistency to be able to crank our 100+ flawless briskets every day since I first at at Franklin about 8 years ago. He did not hit the mark on some of the other items but overall A+
LOL! Great minds think alike Jeff. Aaron still cooks some of the best restaurant brisket in America and I have eaten at many many restaurants. His consistency is amazing considering he cooks (well, his crew) over 100 daily
I've been all over and I'm not waiting 4 hours for food if Jesus cooked it !!! I'm guessing a lot of these people making comments don't know how or just lazy🤣!!! BARBECUE is not rocket science but to each their own, I have found better BARBECUE on a dirt road from a old man under a shade tree😁😆🤣. No disrespect to Aron, just don't like his setup. Great looking food, Harry! Nice video with you and T-Roy. Cheers!
Excellent review pit masters!!! It was nice seeing a very honest review coming from two people who know this craft very well.
Thanks Jay. It's super human to cook 100+ briskets every day flawlessly. I could not do that
Harry.. love you and love every video you make. I appreciate you waiting four hours for me! Side note: it is spelled and pronounced “espresso” not “expresso”
Thanks Robert for your kind words and support. I will correct my spell checker software. Glad you told me else I'll go through life spelling it wrong! :-)
Great video Harry and Troy! Hope to make it there someday. Want to do a BBQ vacation, hitting places in Texas, Kansas City, Memphis, etc.
Only 300 fabulous joints in Texas to try!
Harry, Great video-big fan since I watched you on BBQ Pitmasters. I’ve noticed a lot of videos with you in Texas. Did you relocate there?
I have many friends in Texas as I'm a Texas Tech alumni

Awesome to hear an informed expert's opinion!
Just 2 regular Joes opinions only. Give it a go to see if you agree
I was on the line for a while for my first here. But I was turned back home, because I only had $20 in my wallet, didnt even know how expensive this BBQ is...lmfao So the next time, I came prepared. But it was worth it...
Glad you found some mullah to have a great BBQ meal!
@@SlapYoDaddyBBQ thank you so much the video. It made me want to go back to Franklins BBQ.
wow, that's crazy. I would think $20 be more than enough for 1 person. Even more reason to skip this place.
Thanks for covering the sauces, always wondered what they had for people who like sauces.... 😋

Would I wait that long in line? No, Austin and Texas. Has plenty of great BBQ places. That prolly are just as good. Valentinas, blacks, and browns BBQ. All great!
I'd do it again for one of the best restaurant BBQs in America. Aaron is a gracious host and is a super nice guy
La BBQ has the exact same BBQ down the street and are related to Franklin
Excellent ❤️ I’ve been waiting for this Video. Thank You So Much Harry Soo & T- Roy. Cheers 🍻
Cheers Mick! Thanks for stopping by
Cheers brother!!!
T-ROY COOKS thank you so much Boss 🍺.
Ok ,,Now i need a Kingsford beenie like Harry soo.. Great video guys...
Almost 500 bucks no thanks I'll make my own
Life is short so enjoy your life and wallet any way you see fit. I can't afford a Lamborghini but I can say I ate at one of the best BBQ temples in America! :-)
That much bbq is gonna Hit your wallet hard wherever you go. Might as well experience the best.
That is rent kinda of money...not BBQ kind of money.

🗣Live a little!
I will go once.
Now THESE guys need to do a Texas tour of some of the top barbecue restaurants. I would love to hear how Franklins compares to some of the other famous places in Texas or elsewhere from the perspective of champion cookers.
I've eaten at about 100. Here are the scores for 15 in Austin
www.slapyodaddybbq.com/2013/03/austin-barbecue-crawl-weekend-part-4-of-4-december-2012/
Great honest review from 2 legends 💪
Only two opinions from two regular Joes so give it a go and see what you think. Thanks for stopping by
I have noticed from other people’s videos that the ribs were what I’d call overcooked. Just had Southern Soul’s ribs and they had a nice bite. Peg Leg excellent as well.
An honest, tell it like it is review. Not the typical fanboy lovefest.
Thank you for stopping by
The way you described the sausage is how I like it....not necessarily dry middle, but a tougher exterior with almost a pop to bite through the skin.
Hello fellow sausage aficionado! I've been known to fly across the country just to eat sausage. I serve 5 types in my BBQ class even though we cook 15+ items already!
Appreciate your UA-cam cooking segments Arron! Personally I wouldn’t wait 4 hours for Q
Not many places I would wait 4 hours and Aaron's is one of them. IMHO one of the best restaurant BBQ in America and I've eaten about 300 places. He has amazing consistency to be able to crank our 100+ flawless briskets every day since I first at at Franklin about 8 years ago. He did not hit the mark on some of the other items but overall A+
Nice. I don’t think I would wait in line for that because I could probably do it at home. But I like Franklin and love watching him grill. Looks good!
Next Stop Killen’s in Pearland, TX. I’ll see you in line...
Killens fell off hard. They almost never have a line anymore and the bbq is subpar there now. Go to the heights location
@@SOLDOZER what? I literally live 10 minutes from them I've been there over 50 times. Fuck off fanboy.
@@SOLDOZER they suck as of late, never have had a line last 5 times I went, and everyone I talk to agrees they aren't as good as they were
There brisket is always dry
Fortunately, my family and I have never had a bad experience. The sides and desserts trump all other BBQ joints. They have a gourmet feel.
Your assessment was the same as mine. We even parked in the same spot. Can't wait to get back there again.
LOL! Great minds think alike Jeff. Aaron still cooks some of the best restaurant brisket in America and I have eaten at many many restaurants. His consistency is amazing considering he cooks (well, his crew) over 100 daily
Been there several times and it's worth the wait! The beef ribs and brisket are my faves.
I think he could do just as well if he opened his doors at a decent time like most and keep paying customers standing outside like a bunch of buzzards 🤔
Rodney Green true
@@rodneygreen3574 ...How can ya miss what you never had!! Just like Katz's deli in NY! Can't explain a color to a blind man! You have to taste it first before you can judge! Great vid as always. Thank you for sharing the experience 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸.
Great food and awesome gracious host
Thank you for the honest reviews... sometimes I think Franklin's is over-rated. Austin folk are odd...
It was one of the best in the USA and that's the truth as I've eaten at a few places around the country!
It was weird that most of the folks in line were tourists? It was some good eat'n though!!!
Right! T -Roy and Harry Soo walk in any BBQ place, you better have everything on point!
Food was awesome. One of the best restaurant BBQ in America and they churn out 100+ daily flawlessly which is crazy nuts
There is absolutely no way I would pay that much!!! That place used to be reasonably priced.
The beef ribs were $50/lb and I got 4 for $300. Yikes! I need to see the price before I order next time
@@SlapYoDaddyBBQ ...wtf 50 bucks a lb...😱
By Far the best review of the food ! And the other video you made with Italian pitmaster showing us the smoker was great thanks !!
You're very welcome David. Happy Holidays! 🌲🌲🌲
I will Never wait that long for food but Thank y"all for making the video.
We wait in line so you don't have to! Barbecue responsibly!
@Alfie Blake - I agree somewhat. It is true you can get just as good BBQ at Terry Black's BBQ down the road but waiting in line at Franklin's is part of what makes the food and experience better. Everyone should visit Franklin's at least once.
I like how honest the two of you were in this review. A fan of T-Roy Cooks and glad I found your channel Harry. I'm now subscribing to your channel.

Harry Soo already on it. Did a shrimp/crab boil a weekend ago. Cant wait for that episode. I live in the Austin area as well. Hoping to one day meet Mr T-Roy.
Great explanation of each meat. Did Franklin recognize you at all?

And having T-roy in your video, great idea!!
So would you say Franklin BBQ is the Mecca for the best brisket??
Absolutely one of the best in USA
I will never get there so you guys have done it for me. Thanks
Man, I like Aaron's marketing skills to have folks spending 5 hours in a line for bbq. Listening to your review, I pretty much have a shot with my bbq business in South Carolina.

@@robertmattingly1556 Thanks, starting in the Columbia (803) area. Question, did you work fulltime at another job while starting your business? Or focused mainly on your business?
@@robertmattingly1556 Great info. The only reason I'm overseas is to make money to fund my future business. I tried working with companies in South Carolina (Business/Management), but it seems my degree can only get you the bare minimum salary and I couldn't settle with that. Good honest review Harry. James from Aimem & Claimem and I just did this BBQ crawl last month too. I was the first in line at 5:30am. 🤘
You guys were the early bird! Good eating at Franklin
@Lloyd Bonafide actually James and 8 other UA-camrs and I cooked at Troy place the day before. See my Troy Collab 1, 2 and 3.
When talking about doneness.
"I think they cook it more for the retail crowd"
duhhh!!
Your are right! I was brain dead and needed to take off my certified BBQ judge hat Duh! :-)
@@SlapYoDaddyBBQ that was a bloody huge plate of food bro.
The extra was for my Los Angeles and Sacramento coworkers. They loved it and did not have to shiver in line like Troy and me!
Another great video Harry. Food looks great. Enjoy!!!!!!👍
Damn I should get a food truck to pull up and feed this insane line... Until I seen that tray of food🤤🤤
Definitely a bucket list meal. My coworkers in LA and Sacramento enjoyed the extra food I brought home

If you plan another trip, just do the pre-order and skip the 4 hour wait. I'd also recommend La BBQ just down the road as well. Franklin's is definitely worth it as a one-time bucket list but tough to wait that long on a regular basis.

Finally the best review for this place. The best pitmaster
Thanks for stopping by
what? Aaron would not let you cut in line for a fellow BBQ Pitmasters Brother? Man!
Nay, we are regular folk so we can stand in line. He was a very gracious host to greet all his guests in person. You don't see that very often when the owner runs his own restaurant in person!
