MA assassin FINALLY being viable is amazing. It suddenly looks like it competes strongly for BEST S tier bulid which is a bewildering thought. Not necessarily a bad one though. At least I hope it gets to have this power level for season 3. They can adjust it for season 4 if it proves too dominant. So so happy to see new endgame viable builds. More of this blizzard!!! We build love variety!
Inspired by Llama's Hell guided playthrough on a MA assassin, I attempted to finish Hell myself with the same Phoenix strike build. Took me about 3 weeks to finish it with budget items. Because I don't have D2 Resurrected, I did it all in my old 1.13 version where I have none of the new runewords or the charges consume buff to phoenix strike. Just the fact that I finished hell with budget gear and MA assassin in the old version of the game was enough to make me feel proud, since I am not a veteran Diablo 2 player. My items were Smoke Armor, Chromatic circlet with socketed PDiamond, Rhyme shield, a magic 28 fire rest plated belt, a magic 20 frw and poison resist boots, rare gloves with 10 IAS and cold and poison res, angelics amulet and ring. My weapon was malice claw for mobs and strength claw for bosses. My merc was holy freeze with tal's mask, lionheart armor and honor thresher for mobs and strength thresher for bosses. My inventory was full with life or resist charms. It's insane how much of a glass cannon she is. She dies very easily even on level 83 with 1360 health but also deals so much elemental damage that baal went down in 2 minutes. Most of my time in the baal fight was going back to town for potions, despawning his clone or death from festering appendages rather than the actual fight.
Reminds me of my critical mass wizard build on D3 way back. Super fun but I can see why it might get out of hand. Granted this is like top tier end game gear. I can see a nerf coming, at least to stacking charges.
I remember way back in the day when Assassin was first introduced to the original game. I was so excited to make a martial arts assassin. Sounded great, but in practice it kind of sucked. Now.... my dream from 20 years ago... can finally come true. O.o
when he started to explain the charges on phoenix strike i was like: "Wait dont all charges stack?" And yes. Yes they do. I hope this stays in the game. Its immense fun.
Everything u build to 3 charges except phoenix strike. It all works for claws of fire, claws, of thunder, and claws of ice. Phoenix strike releases the charge it is at so charge 2 is better than charge 3. Hope this makes sense. Basically only phoenix strike you stop early and all other ma charge skills you can charge to 3 no worries.
Man. Martial arts/ blade sin was my favorite character as a kid. Two seasons ago I broke down and bought D2r and made one for when the quality of life changes to finishers came in, and it was really fun. Now this? I wanted to do something else this season but man, this is tempting. Or maybe if they roll these ladder runewords into normal I can use my old assassin... assuming I even find a Gul rune, let alone a Mal.
MA assassin was able to do P8 without this insanity. Now is just so broken, and this is not even the strongest MA build, dragon Talon + tiger strike will melt ubers even faster, also Cobra Strike, in the other hand tiger strike + dragon tail for 90k splash sustained dmg at 7 frames is ridiculous
Always thought javazon was bs op, so to put other characters up there is refreshing. It’s kinda neat and something fun to try. Also if you play sp it’s harder to get lv 40 skills so it’s not as op
don't forget cobra strike can also be stacked, meaning you're getting an insane amount of life and mana leech. the build is just busted. Im ok with it because the usual builds are as stale as can be.
This is so awesome. Even with the next hit delay on thunder claws and Phoenix strike this build seems to wreck.. now do a tiger strike one and try it with full crushing blow build
Literally chillin at work listening to this, I took my sunglasses off and immediately after llama says “put your sunglasses on you’re gonna need them” lmao
The probability should just stack differently (should be two independent trials, so 75% total) - even having a total of 80-90% would work ok, you'd have your fun for a while then after 5-10 insane hits you'd have to recharge... I think that's fair
OMG I was thinking about this back in the old days of playing d2, I was craving for a martial artist assassin build that can shred everything with all elements at once...It`s finally real! Too bad i`m not playing this game anymore :(
OMG, thanks for doing this test, I knew it will be OP. And what do you think about TS? It's cheap x10-20 damage multiplier now. There was old TS + Dragon Tail combination which is already pretty descent, but can go even further now.
It needs to be nerfed. Not into the ground.... I'm fine with it remaining the best spec in the game for season 3. But, I think it needs to be brought down to similar power of Blizz Sorc in S2 which was already crazy strong.
On the flipside: Allowing builds like this to be viable is what set PoE on the course of becoming "run around and blow up the entire screen". It all started with Cast on Crit and Discharge, then it snowballed into the state that it's currently in. I'd rather not have D2R end up like that. You can make a build viable without allowing it to blow up the entire screen.
@@Squatch_11 The issue with Seasons are that you constantly have to add more to change the meta, so the further on seasons go, without actually new zones and content, the more you are either stuck with a game that is boring and always feels the same with no evolving meta, or you end up in a problem like PoE, where seasons upon seasons of new items and/or systems have resulted in absurd amounts of Power Creep. D2 had ladder, but seasons were never even thought of as a way to keep interest in Diablo 2 when it was originally designed. I like to think of D2R as its own "Re-imagining" of D2 in modern era. Thus it feels necessary to me that the game evolves, rather than annoying me.
Love the MA-sin, but I kind of wish that they put the new mechanic on the class rather than on a specific runeword because now this is getting closer to diablo 3 where the builds and items are dictating each other. If they would've added it to claw mastery, going up to 50% at a certain level, you could use 1 mosaic and another weapon of choice, now it's just: "playing MA? yepyep, double mosaic or play another build".
I really hope they don't change this, even if it's just for one season. The assassin has needed some love for awhile -- let it be broken for a bit. Those of us who have played assassins since 2001 will finally feel some vindication.
How to fix martial arts: They need to revamp all the assassin runewords and unqiues to have a 100% chance to proc ONE of the abilities. Like shadow killer should have blades of ice, bartucs could have something from claws of thunder , etc. I think this would solve this issue and still be in line with what they are trying to do. That way you can also build certain types of martial arts. Right now you have ALL of it all the time for very little investment and every other weapon for sin is completely useless. This is the wrong way to go about this.
I don't see why they should nerf it. Yeah, it's ridiculously strong. But again, we've had 3 S tier builds dominate the meta for a very, very long time. Either nerf all of them, or allow another member to join the tiny club.
you can also stack tigerstrike to get just another silly 2000% phys dmg. It may not be much since your boots are probably not made for kicking but will probably still be 1-2k phys dmg on each kick
I guess nothing stopping anyone from doing dedicated kickers. Didn't sound like the boots where critical to the build at all. Not that you'd _need_ it considering the screen is already exploding.
Definitely need a nerf. Another proof that the devs dont test their changes enough. I think they should remove the charge duration refresh, but increase the charge duration. I also think the number of different kind of charge should be limited. Something like 2 kind of charge at the same time. It would enable more strategic play when dealing with immunes.
Its a challenging line to walk. If you feel too weak then people get frustrated and quit, if you feel to OP everything feels trivialized, people have fun with it for a bit then get bored and quit.
It's nice that the martial arts assassin has more viability pvm. I'd rather them let her own this patch and nerf next patch like the cold sorc and her reign. I'm probably just going to start barb and rush hustle and see what builds work well.
Yeah, fully agreed. Could you imagine, each character could have a season to reign over. This is the season of the assassin. Maybe next season nerf her and give necromancer a chance to own, like skeletal mages insane power with ability to auto cast skeletal mage from corpses or something.
This looks fun as hell, I didn’t even know the charges stacked. Too bad MA assassin doesn’t have a chance to not spend charges as part of each skill rank.
So a few notes for those not overly familiar with MA. Fists of Fire will NOT WORK with Cobra Strike. Fists of Fire converts ALL physical to fire damage so you don't get to leech that way. Also Claws of Thunder will NOT STACK with the 2nd charge of Phoenix Strike. Only one will be doing damage due to the Next Hit Delay.
As much as I couldn't stop smiling watching the P8 Chaos decimation, I can't help but think they NEED to nerf this a bit. It's a maxed hammerdin x2 or x3 in terms of speed from what I saw. As cool as that is, I'm still an old school d2 guy. This char is too strong as it stands currently. Thanks Llama, you're the og.
Literally never played sin ever in D2. Just started one about 2 weeks ago, HC, wanted to go with Phoenix Strike to be able to clear all content (for added challenge). The next thing you know the patch notes come out and there I am, now playing an overpowered S-tier build. If that's not some sort of a sign, I don't know what is. Shame it'll probably get nerfed to death in like a month. Thanks for the video, great tips!
The question would be: Why would it need to be nerfed as long as the other S-Tier builds exist and are often times even more powerful? MA looks very flashy now, but it kinda ends there. Other builds still have a lot higher kill speed for two decades now and haven't gotten pushed down, so there is no reason to believe that they will nerf this build down.
@@Schilani True, didn't think about that. Then again, I don't really have a very deep understanding of the meta to think about that. To me it just seems very impressive how this build can delete any content in seconds, so I assumed it's a bit OP. But you're right about it not being on par with some other set-in-stone builds, so thanks for sharing your perspective!
so....i LOVE the idea of building an MA Sin... and clearly NOT having to stack Damage upon Damage... so much raw damage, that now you can really focus on increasing survivability.... feels like one of the first Meta builds that can do that. You could make an MA Sin that can just tank ANYTHING, and still deal massive dmg.
100% percent chance to not use charges is kind of a glitch. It is like 100% resistances or 100% crushing blow. Everything that adds up like this is capped to 75% or 95% so there is no reason for this one to allow 100% chance. But enjoy it as long as it lasts.
I kinda saw this coming after that patch announcement. But it is nice to see it played out. But damn, that is both beautiful and disgusting at the same time. Martial arts assassins needed love but these claws are the only items that can let them shine.
True. As fun as this item would be, brand new mechanics brought into the game I feel it's changing d2. I'm all for a variety of existing skills and auras on items as well as MA assassin skill improvements. This item basically removes the whole charge and release concept of the assassin.
I think this new build is really fun! i have been waiting ages for Assa to viable finally now it is. Ill keep as is for the first season then i would balance to only have one kind of charges if you have 2 Mosaic ( only if 2 ) otherwise u can stack all charges
Holy shit. You are showing what I was starting to focus an assassin build myself in an all Martial Arts skills build. I can possibly wait till Mosaic, if I heard that right, hits non ladder players. Mal, Gul, Amn isnt that hard to get for runes. That was just stupid amounts of damage and I would be3 sure that if LOTS of players started switching builds to this that Blizzard would almost assuredly nerf it.
Happy to have a new build after all these years, but this does seem like a bit much. Maybe attaching a negative to attack speed on mosaic to bring it down a couple frames per piece equipped. Since you're hitting so hard, it would make sense that you don't hit as often.
Good thing shockwave druid got that nerf. Man, that thing was OP. It was killing like a few monsters at a time at a slow pace and only did one damage type. It also required an inventory of skillers, which we all know is basically as common as chipped gems on a normal run.
@@dropboxxx they might not until next season, but yea this doesn't seem right as fun and cool as it is. Its bascially like a sorceress spamming synergized meteors, blizzard, and nova while having a redemption aura, but you also have fade and crushing blow on your attacks. You don't even need the new sunder charms. It's kinda ridiculous. I don't want to ruin the fun, but this just seems quite wreckless after they did such good and careful skill changes in the first couple patches. They NEED to look at the outclassed uniques and old runewords instead of creating new ones that make the old ones even more useless. As an example look up Shadow Killer battle cestus. It procs level 8 frost nova. It has no plus skills. doesnt have any big damage modifiers. There's no IAS on it. What they need to do is take items like this and give it a 100% chance to cast ONE of the martial arts abilities. Not ALL of them. I guess it's still not faster than a self wielding infinity nova sorc.
i love that they are updating and adding all of this stuff but as a person who enjoys non expansion as well there's literally zero love being shown to classic and it makes me sad af
- 50% to consume charges, +25% to consume charges if above 3 charges That would give you *ballanced* infinite clear, while also allowing to stack up for boss burst.. Otherwise those Mosaic weapons push it from C tier to SSS tier and it's way too much.

This is the most expensive build in game, because you need to dual wield RTX 4090 for it to work
LOL! Tho tbh, its not that bad. Its nothing compared to the lightshows that S tier PoE builds put on the screen.
The problem with that is they either need to make all the other characters like this or nerf it.
This is worth it, a small nerf is ok, but really it needs to remain S tier. I was smiling the whole time. Thanks!
I am happy to see another top teir build. Hammerdin and sorc have remained on top for far to long. :)
Honestly I'm glad we get more S tier, and every class should have at least one build at this level.
EXACTLY! The amount of time and effort to build what THIS is takes forever...every class should be able to pay off for that time investment
No this is the only S tier build now. All the former S tier builds are now A tier.
It would be really exciting and an incentive to play on the ladder.
@@____GoMeZ____ people will have this built by the end of the weekend lol
Always thought javazon was bs op, so to put other characters up there is refreshing. It’s kinda neat and something fun to try. Also if you play sp it’s harder to get lv 40 skills so it’s not as op
don't forget cobra strike can also be stacked, meaning you're getting an insane amount of life and mana leech. the build is just busted. Im ok with it because the usual builds are as stale as can be.
This is so awesome. Even with the next hit delay on thunder claws and Phoenix strike this build seems to wreck.. now do a tiger strike one and try it with full crushing blow build
I love that we have something new to try out for at least one ladder!!
I want a whole group of these doing baal runs
this has always been my favorite build, its so nice to see it being buffed :D
OMG I was thinking about this back in the old days of playing d2, I was craving for a martial artist assassin build that can shred everything with all elements at once...It`s finally real! Too bad i`m not playing this game anymore :(
OMG, thanks for doing this test, I knew it will be OP. And what do you think about TS? It's cheap x10-20 damage multiplier now. There was old TS + Dragon Tail combination which is already pretty descent, but can go even further now.
thats the coolest looking thing ive seen in over 20 years of playing/watching this game
I hope this doesn't get nerfed, the game needs more fun build variety. Every class should have a build that can pop off like this.
100% Nerfed tomorrow
How to fix martial arts:
They need to revamp all the assassin runewords and unqiues to have a 100% chance to proc ONE of the abilities.
YEEEAHHH, this will get nerfed 100% ... but hopefully they will just make Mosaic way more expensive instead of actually nerfing the mechanic.
I don't see why they should nerf it. Yeah, it's ridiculously strong. But again, we've had 3 S tier builds dominate the meta for a very, very long time. Either nerf all of them, or allow another member to join the tiny club.
Seems very gear dependent. One thing about hammerdins for example is that they can be really good before you have all the end game gear.
x2 mal/gul is not much gear dependent
@@RunicGG He has full charms and a Griffon’s Eye too, as well as Enigma and Infinity.
@@sunshower6560 it farms on p8 with basic gear you don’t need most of the gear he showed. Enigma isn’t needed either since you have dragon flight.
@@timothybraun3796 I assume you’ve tested this yourself? Interesting if so and really exciting.
My head started hurt so much without sunglasses that i need to stop watching.
Why is it 360p?
Because we're so early it hasn't uploaded in 1080 yet.
i'm sad to see so many people are happy about this
This is the best addition to D2R and looks like a lot of fun!
I love it, this game is my go to just for the sheer destruction and solo abilities it provides the user. Please dont change it Bliz
so early its in 360p
you can also stack tigerstrike to get just another silly 2000% phys dmg.
360p ftw xD
Definitely need a nerf. Another proof that the devs dont test their changes enough.
I think they should remove the charge duration refresh, but increase the charge duration.
I also think the number of different kind of charge should be limited. Something like 2 kind of charge at the same time. It would enable more strategic play when dealing with immunes.
I get how people dont like seeing their powerful builds get beaten but why cant every build be powerful
Nah. People don't like seeing D2R head down the slippery slope that POE went down. Once you let a build like this thru, there is no going back.
They need higher mode then hell and tzone
Its a challenging line to walk. If you feel too weak then people get frustrated and quit, if you feel to OP everything feels trivialized, people have fun with it for a bit then get bored and quit.
Whenever there's a good build or skill, Llama says it's "broken", then it gets nerfed. Thanks dude.
Most of us will never get all that hacked edited gear
It's nice that the martial arts assassin has more viability pvm. I'd rather them let her own this patch and nerf next patch like the cold sorc and her reign.
I'm probably just going to start barb and rush hustle and see what builds work well.
What there need on cold sorc ?
Yeah, fully agreed. Could you imagine, each character could have a season to reign over. This is the season of the assassin. Maybe next season nerf her and give necromancer a chance to own, like skeletal mages insane power with ability to auto cast skeletal mage from corpses or something.
Great thing is, even just one point in Cobra Strike removes any need for leech on equipment.
These videos are how nerfs happen lol
Would a small nerf put this in line with other top tier builds done correctly? Sure, but do we trust blizzard to not overcorrect itself. Hell no.
I remember as a teenager running my Foh paladin i worked so hard on just decimating in pvp on us east, ah nostalgia.
”ahh, my eyes"
"You are reaching 4 frames per second"
"My Dell E-machine is melting!"
Need shadow dancers and dracs. Both would make this build a bit better.
My mom always thinks me eating my toenails were disgusting, but this is just on another level.
Finally, they made one melee which can compare to casters in clearing speed and there is a reason to play this one. Also looks amazing.
Its funny that the melee builds that are actually good play like casters
let's be frank here, it's still a caster, damage comes from +skills
I gotta be honest, i absolutely love this. I hope it doesn't get nerfed.
"That just comes from that" Great guidance.
I expect us to see a "Can't Stack Damage Charges" nerf in the future.
Just think how many claws we have thrown away in the past looking for the GG traps claws 🤣
Im waiting for martial arts for 20 years straight, thank God this happened
I kinda saw this coming after that patch announcement. But it is nice to see it played out. But damn, that is both beautiful and disgusting at the same time. Martial arts assassins needed love but these claws are the only items that can let them shine.
Indeed, these claws are mandatory for the build (and pretty cheap). I would rather see changes to the skills than item such as these.
True. As fun as this item would be, brand new mechanics brought into the game I feel it's changing d2. I'm all for a variety of existing skills and auras on items as well as MA assassin skill improvements. This item basically removes the whole charge and release concept of the assassin.
OMG that is AWESOME! Love it! Thanks Lama for the build.
OMG...FINALLY...I've loved Sin from the start. Now I have a reason to come back again.
Yes! Yes! Yes!
Every patch I've been waiting to hear that the sin has improved.
This is the craziest things I’ve seen in over 20 years of D2
Happy to have a new build after all these years, but this does seem like a bit much. Maybe attaching a negative to attack speed on mosaic to bring it down a couple frames per piece equipped. Since you're hitting so hard, it would make sense that you don't hit as often.
If a build can be judged only by the smiles, this is the 🐐
Good thing shockwave druid got that nerf. Man, that thing was OP. It was killing like a few monsters at a time at a slow pace and only did one damage type. It also required an inventory of skillers, which we all know is basically as common as chipped gems on a normal run.
spot on, nerf incomming.
Finally the Assassin got buffed and is playable.
This is absolutely insane
i love that they are updating and adding all of this stuff but as a person who enjoys non expansion as well there's literally zero love being shown to classic and it makes me sad af
Funny how this suddenly was always everyone’s favorite build lol.
- 50% to consume charges,
+25% to consume charges if above 3 charges
That would give you *ballanced* infinite clear, while also allowing to stack up for boss burst..
Otherwise those Mosaic weapons push it from C tier to SSS tier and it's way too much.
this is ridiculous! LOL! loved it!
XD Alright, i thought it was kind of a funny comment to say 'put on your sunglasses' But after seeing her glow.. Yes.. Indeed. Put on your sunglasses if you wanna still be able to see after playing her for a while XD
Love it!
So now we hit the crazy power creep mark everyone was afraid of.....
What everyone? Look at the comments. Most people love this power creep. Just like they loved sunder charms. Slowly but surely we're turning into diablo 3.
Thanks for you're content =) PS Meteor seems to lag out the game to a point it crashes completely if you spam it on DClone for example :D
Nice channel man love the energy
Fuck it man, leave it in lol. Imagine 8 of those in the same game…
This looks so much fun. I mean a sorc is still nicer to farm with, because you put on your ES and just port arround killing stuff, while you need to charge up again and again with martial arts
This is acually amazing. hopefully more cool builds like that on summoners etc
