Karen's voice is gorgeous. I miss her heavenly voice. In this video, I'm really impressed with Carol's musical sense. She does not sound out of place at all
@@southwestsunsets3884 Carol always had a very belty and comical singing voice. Knowing how much of perfectionists Richard and Karen were, they probably rehearsed her, and help her subdue her belt into a prettier more harmonious sound.
I know! I’m British and didn’t know Carol. When it started I thought it would be comedy. How could ANYONE duet with Karen! But Carol is really good, and not out of place at all!
Aiden, this was 1971 & Karen at age 21. The continuous Touring & Studio demands resulted in her weight reaching over 145lbs & in 1974, Her Wardrobe, Makeup & hair Person made choices that actually accentuated her weight gains. By age 24 (1974) inclusive, Karen was already looking like late 30's. That's when she started her dieting regimes.
It's a privilege to see three extraordinarily gifted artists in Karen and Richard Carpenter and Carol Burnett perform together. And credit the great songwriting team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David for creating songs that remain forever fresh and appealing.
I love it when Carol looks at Karen in absolute awe when Karen starts to sing. And deservedly so. Karen Carpernter was an angel on earth, we will rarely ever get to see again in our lifetime.
Karen looks so wonderful in this video. She has gorgeous long hair, a beautiful smile and a killer voice. Too bad she had such low self-esteem. She was one-of-a-kind. I was lucky to see her and Richard IN PERSON in the mid-1970's. Karen was a tiny little fireball at that time (didn't know she was so sick) and Richard was pretty much a "stiff" behind the piano. Clearly Karen had the personality, Richard knew music inside out!!
Noooo, this was c1971. Karen was in perfect health. Her dieting regime didn't begin until 1975, after she'd gained a considerable amount of weight in late 1973 & 1974. Looking back at her clips, she hated the way she looked!
The Carpenters, Abba, Queen, the Eagles, the Jacksons, Fleetwood Mac, the Bee Gees, Boney M, Blondie...the 70's was the decade of the supergroups. 😊😊😊 The Carpenters are up there with the best, the very best.😉

RIP Karen Carpenter! You're missed, terribly!!! Xxxxoo
Superb. Carol Burnett holds her own here. Karen is so beautiful again here. Seems not to have a care in the world and enjoying her early fame. Carol is still alive at 89, Richard still alive at 75. Karen would only be 72 now and probably still singing - such a sad loss.
Karen is perfect here in every way. Perfect voice, cute personality, gorgeous smile, nice hairstyle & even a lovely outfit considering it was the early 70s. Always love her.

Carol could act, dance sing and be a comic. The carpenters are going for pure music. Good music you can't fake, and here it is all real talents at play.
Carol had a good voice and could carry a tune. This is one of the more disciplined singing performances that I’ve seen from her - she rose to the occasion when singing with the incredible Karen Carpenter.
@2:40 you can see the pitch-perfect Carpenters both struggle not to laugh at Carol‘s mildly pitchy, overly-enthusiastic ‘Baa-WOP!’. Carol is an awesome singer, and that just shows you just how extraordinarily good the Carpenters were... regardless, it’s great to see Karen laughing and having fun
Karen, was amazing she had such gorgeous tonality in her voice, perfect control and her phrasing was impeccable. She was such a sweet person and with an amazing personality and sense of humor, but always a true professional in every aspect of her craft... Richard, an amazing pianist, keyboardest and arranger I could not see anyone else side by side with Karen as they took this amazing journey as "Carpenters". I still get a lump in the throat when I hear Karen's opening note to "Close To You" I've heard it in my lifetime a million, zillion, times but it never loses its beauty nor it's meaning and that's because of Karen and Richard. We miss you Karen, you were a brilliant jewel on this earth and you are the brightest star in heaven 🌟

Two of the most supremely talented ladies of all time, one a world class vocalist and the other a world class comedic actress.
I never seen this before and I love The Carpenters and I love Carol Burnett and her show. I don't know how I missed it after all these years. .... (probably because I have had imbibed a little too many Drugg ohs during that time ......possibly intermittently afterwards, oh my grief). Anyway, I love this and I'm going to add it to my UA-cam music Favorites Playlist!
Karen so unique and gorgeous. This is sublime.
Karen keeps trying to get them back on pitch. She was flawless & I didn't blink 😲
Carol was straight fan-girling. Lol. It was anyone’s dream at that time to sing with the Carpenter’s. This is a treasure.
What a brave woman Carol was.
I was 10 and remember Carol Burnett and of course the Karen Carpenter. It makes me so happy to see these two talented woman together. This was in the days when there was 3 may be 4 TV channels not 300 or 400.
Richard is a musical genius..One of the best arrangers ever..
