  • This is a unboxing, first impressions and full review of the DJI Pocket 2 after two weeks of use. I answer the primary question "Is this the perfect camera for new creators?" as well as discuss whether this could be a great option for those of us obsessed with the latest camera and gear to get out of our head and just focus on creating. The video also contains an announcement for a new project starting this month called One21 featuring a twenty-one day focus to learn to cross country ski in the Canadian Rockies.

    Nice video !!!
    For some reason, when I shoot the winter, the picture turns more blue, I tried to switch to Pro mode, set the white balance settings to automatic, but unfortunately it did not help, now I’m thinking how to set the correct settings in the camera, because it’s not clear why in automatic mode if you shoot a winter landscape .. On the last video on my channel at 3:04 you can see how the color of the picture changes and it becomes dimmer as if it has darkened on the street ..

    • @scobelverse
      @scobelverse  3 роки тому

      That's a really common problem in the winter with most cameras. The snow is so overwhelming that it's correcting everything to blue. Best to use a manual white balance in this situation or you can fix it in post.

      As soon as I find one I like I'll probably purchase a nice case to store the Pocket 2 and all the accessories. I've seen on that holds a Pocket 2 and Mavic Mini 2 which I think might be the perfect little combination for portable film making.

    To complement the pocket 2 , are the new m1 macbook airs and iMovie enough editing power for a new vlogger? And if so 16GB RAM and 1TB storage a better bet than the base model, or would a MacBook Pro be necessary (i only have apple equipment i accept maybe there are better windows based alternatives)

    • @scobelverse
      @scobelverse  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the question! I have seen a lot of benchmarks and comparisons with the M1 Air and I think I can confidently say yes. I haven’t seen much info on the affect of the 16GB RAM but I have never regretted having more internal space. I would at least go with the 1TB if you can swing it. The 13” MacBook Pro would be great but honestly I would just start with the Air. iMovie is great and if you start to want more features Final Cut Pro will run GREAT on that M1 chip and they have a 90 day trial to test it out. I haven’t used Windows in a while so I can’t comment but I think I’ll be super happy to stick to Apple.
      Do me a favour, when you go for this and crest your first VLOG send me a link. It’s so hard to rip that bandaid and start out so I want to support you. Remember if you get even 1% better on every VLOG you do you’ll be almost 3 times better than you are now in 100 videos. Just keep consistent and keep at it. Good luck!!!

    I have bad G.A.S. 😳
    I did end up buying a GoPro Hero 9 with the media mod, plus the addition of Rode Wireless Go. Funny enough I had been waiting for the Pocket 2. I do believe it is a big improvement over the original. Frustrating that you’ve already lost some accessories. I think I can hold off until the Pocket 3 comes out. Probably.
    Especially since I currently have C.A.S. clothing acquisition syndrome thanks to a mutual LOST GIRL that we know. Although she is also feeding my G.A.S as she did also posted about Peak Design products. 🤷🏻‍♂️😜

    Excellent review - I'm struggling to nitpick! Concerning "G.A.S." - I seem to have that in respect of small cameras. Pocket 1, Pocket 2, Fimi Palm 1 & 2, Osmo Action, Insta360 One X - it's not limited to the big stuff!

      @@scobelverse As of very recently, my go-to would be the Pocket 2 - despite the need for FW updates which they say will come next month - if nothing else, the audio is worth the price of admission. I kid myself that these gimbal devices are like DSLR lenses - different lens characteristics for each one - but you don't only get a lens, you get the whole camera for the typical price of a decent DSLR lens. I'd only need a small camera bag to carry (say) the two Pockets, the latest Palm (arrives next month) and the 360 and Action cameras, to cover all sorts of video / photo needs. Stirring times.

      @@scobelverse I assume that some at least of what appear to be arbitrary limits are actually limits of the processing power of the CPU of the device, coupled with heat dissipation issues. They mentioned in a forum post that one design objective is that the device must run non-stop without having to shut down due to overheat. The small body gives little scope for heatsinking. But having said all that, it remains frustrating!

    • @scobelverse
      @scobelverse  3 роки тому

      I figured that as well. It’s just frustrating because I end up with a bunch of video files with different color profiles.

    • @RadioACtiveN3Rd

      No, not user serviceable. If you try an replace the battery yourself, if the device ever loses power entirely, it will be bricked.

    Haha, so you’ve lost the wide angle lens and the phone adapters? You’re not the only one, but I think I take the cake for losing Pocket accessories. I have misplaced the wireless mic. Yes, the one month old wireless mic!😩 Had it clipped on my jacket lapel and wen on a hike through the neighborhood forest. Somewhere along the trail I went through some shrubs and the mic must have been caught on a branch. By the time I realized it was missing it was getting dark and there’s a couple of kilometers of trail to back track😭

    That was a very good, honest and unintimidating review! So, being a noob, I was wondering, do you think the Pocket 2 (perhaps with some ND filters) could shoot a video somewhat comparable in quality to this video (without being overly concerned about depth of field): ua-cam.com/video/MY4iHZnE8IU/v-deo.html
    Basically, I'm just looking to shoot a few fitness commercial-style videos (probably in 24fps) where an average non-photographer person would be like, "Huh, that was a pretty professional-looking video," versus, "Wow, that looked like he filmed it on a cell phone..." 😂
    Thanks, man!

    • @scobelverse

      HI Matt. Sorry for the late reply here. I've been a bit MIA the last month dealing with some medical issues. As far as your questions...
      I would love to tell you yes, but watching that video there are three things that really stand out.
      1) Depth of Field - I know you said you're not concerned about it, but it's what makes that video. It would be really hard to get something that feels the same without the DOF.
      2) Colour Grading - that video is very heavily graded likely to compensate for the rough lighting in most gyms. The Pocket 2 does have flat color profile, but I don't think you could push it this far, especially when shooting 120FPS.
      3) Quick Movements - a lot of these movements are very quick in real-time and then slowed down with 120FPS. I found the Pocket really difficult to do quick movements where you're essentially working against the gimbal.
      I do think you could do really nice fitness type videos with Pocket 2, but I think you'll fall shorts of your expectations if you're using this video as a reference.
