People have to remember that the original David Soul version was loaded with jump scares. Barlow in the jail cell, Floyd Tibbitts jumping out from behind the door to attack Ben, etc. They just weren't such a hated trope back then. Also, the original changed a lot of things from the novel as well so don't forget that.
Good point. I think jump scares were more palatable then because they weren’t accompanied with ear-splitting musical stings to ensure you fly out of your own skin when they hit 😂

I’m gonna be honest, it looks like an action packed type of vampire movie whereas the book and original movie took its time with the vampire infestation. As a huge fan of the book, this adaptation doesn’t look like my cup of tea. I’ll give them some positive notes, I like the cast, the vampire designs are pretty cool, and I like that they are keeping it set in the time period of the book, but story wise, I don’t think they’re going to execute it well
Fair enough! I did get some sense of that brooding vibe from the trailer, so I’m hopeful - and the last 100 pages of the book are incredibly action-packed

Hey Stephen King himself has said its really good. So I have my hopes up! The trailer looked pretty good, didnt blow my socks off but I really hope its great since its one of my fav King books ever. Dunno if it can top the nosferatu from the '79 movie (which i absolutely loved) tho.
I had hoped this version would be a mini series. I'm also disappointed in the listed run time being under 2 hours. I will still watch it and I hope I like it.
The trailer looked strong for what I anticipate this film to be. Though I do wish that when this new adaptation was greenlit, it would have been a 6-part series. Need I refresh everyone's memory how amazing Midnight Mass and the first season of House on Haunted Hill was? Both had a strong sense of dread that lingered. Characters were given the time to develop. It's just a hunch, but I'm thinking this new film will be weak on the character buildup. I'm already am bummed that the actor playing Ben feels too young. At first, I dug the song at the start of the trailer, but then wondered if it was kind of campy. I mean, the original was straight-up scary AF. The score alone was nightmare worthy. Let's pray this isn't a cookie cutter horror.
TBH° This "Trailer" reminds me of the *_Remake_* of *The 🌫️ FOG'* (I e. There's a reason this film 📽️ was *_panned_* by *Test Audiences.* & this held 🔙 back for 2 years). And a contemporary Stephen 👑 King endorsement is *_No Metric_* indeed ( i.e. 🐱💩)
I’m cautiously optimistic, but I’m definitely keeping my expectations in check given the filmmakers and the rumors of reshoots and bad test screenings. The trailer didn’t do much to persuade me otherwise,honestly. I found the green filter and the heavy CGI fog distracting as hell and I felt like the back half of the trailer was too action-oriented. On the other hand, I’m glad that they made it a period piece, and I’m quite pleased with the casting all around. There’s some really solid and appealing actors in that bunch. I’ll be excited to see what they do with the characters. I also thought that the glimpse we got of Marjorie Glick waking up in the mortuary was spot on. That’s such a powerful and icon scene in the book and it seems like they’re trying to make it as creepy as possible. Finally, I really like that they haven’t shown us anything of Barlow beyond his “effed up vampire hand”. They haven’t shown us much of Straker either, come to think of it. I’m really looking forward to seeing these villains in action in another version of this story.
The original series scared the crap out of me as a kid, so that experience can't really be topped as an adult. Having said that I really enjoyed the trailer and consequently am really looking forward to the movie. Im not expecting an accurate adaptation of King's work, so hoping it will be a creepy standalone film inspired by the events in the book (and possibly by the original series if they stick with a demonesque Barlow). I personally think the Interview with the Vampire series has proved that a creative adaptations can be great if the creators have a genuine love for the source material.
This 2024 preview has heavy elements of John Carpenter’s The Fog to me - which, I think, is a good sign. I share the concerns about compressed action-packed punch-em-up moments, but I’ll certainly give it a shot.
Literally just finished my first read of salems lot last week, so am very excited for this! I really enjoyed the old 80’s film but it was a bit dated and the vampires looked silly
It’s a well made trailer and looks like they are legitimately trying to stay true to the book. Ben Mears is cast really well. Setting and tone look great. However I do worry about the amount of cgi making it cheesy and not scary. Practical effects are the way to go but Hollywood only goes for cheap jump scares. I have a feeling it’ll end up just being ok and not scary.
My introduction to the King was catching part 1 of Salems Lot on the tv back in the early 80’s and wanting to know what happened as missed part 2 - off to the local book store and have been buying his work ever since - this trailer looked great and it will be good to see the book get more profile as I recently reread it and it is still brilliant
After watching the trailer, I am a little concerned Susan in the new version resembles Velma out of Scooby Doo, complete with very bad wig. That's not the Susan I remember. In the first and second movie version of Salem's Lot, Susan was an attractive classy lady. Not what they have now. In certain angles the new Susan looks about 14 years old.

I am a dyed in wool fan of the original 79 version as I was young when I watched that live on tv on its debut. This to me has me hesitant but I will give it a chance. Absolutely hate the Marjorie Glick evil dead rise voice as it’s not scary and comes across like most tacky modern horror from the likes of Blumhouse. I have a feeling this will be an entertaining vampire action movie that may end up being forgettable. We will see.
In the book Mark Petrie was described as looking as if he could be Ben's son and Dr. Cody was a young thirty something male doctor with reddish brownish hair having said that I'm semi excited it's too short of an adaptation to flesh out the story

I hated the first Salem’s Lot. The Jeep doors never closed 😆 I used to drive a Jeep so that really stood out to me. It was a bad movie. The only film too boring to stay awake for…. Snooze fest 💤

Yeah, Marjorie’s voice was awful but I thought it was a great visual. Fingers crossed we get something worthwhile!
