My mom was making these bread pizzas for 60 years. She makes them even simpler: put a thin slice of tomato with salt, pepper and oregano instead of the sauce
Watching this from Australia and I am vietnamese. I hanged out with my italian friend back in the early 90s and when there was nothing to eat, he said he'll make bread pizza, I was curious. It was very simple, tomato sauce, onion and cheese. I have completely forgotten about this for the last 12 years or so. My 12 year old daughter loves pizza so I asked her if she wanted to try bread pizza? she was curious too. After the first try, she has fallen in love with it. I have now passed this recipe from an italian generation to a vietnamese one :) Love it.

I am preparing it since 1990 and named it Brizza!! Pizza topping made on bread slices. And it was a signature and most selling dish in our restaurant. People, specially children liked it very much because they could eat a whole slice, without cutting or awaiting till somebody serve them!! 😀😀👍🏼👍🏼👌🏼👌🏼 And everyone can decide their choices for topping! That is also gave them a personal touch or liking. Chicken Brizza was the most selling dish.

I tried this today.. used butter instead of sause as a coating. I also used finely chopped vegetables instead of relatively larger pieces shown here. Also kept another slice on top to make it like a sandwich. Turned out super yummy. If the modern day processed cheese was healthy enough I'd prepare this every day on tawa. It was so lovely. I've been making "mock pizza" for decades. My version goes: 2 slices of bread, toasted on one side only. Spread the untoasted sides with green pesto, top with thinly sliced tomato and a slice of burger cheese. Add anchovy fillets* and sliced black olives, grill untill the cheese melts. Yum! * or use salami/ham cut into strips.
This looks perfect! I would also try it with roasted diced veggies. And I can have my Hawaiian (pineapple/ham) pizza, with no one to laugh at me. Hmmm…tapenade pizza. For dessert, Nutella/jam pizza, topped with ice cream. Breakfast: French toast pizza with cinnamon bread, jam (pizza sauce), and dried fruit (toppings), and cream cheese dollops (cheese).
