It’s already been commented on here a couple of times that John Levinson tragically died only 3 months after this aired in a car crash in Chicago. There’s another interesting element to the story. He was actually John Levinson Jr. His father was a prominent attorney and successful amateur golfer in Chicago. He passed away only a year earlier in April 1974. John Levinson Sr grew up in Chicago and attended the Harvard School for Boys. In 1924 at the age of 9 he was the original intended target of the infamous Leopold and Loeb. It was only because he left the school and went home by a different route that he wasn’t kidnapped by them. Instead the pair kidnapped and murdered Levinson’s next door neighbor, Bobby Franks, in a failed ransom plot. John Levinson Sr ended up being a witness in the trial that followed.
No successful H/H matches the last three days. Only Gary and Richard were chosen this week. Gary had much better success. Not choosing Joyce may have been a wasted opportunity on the part of the last contestant... Here's the current leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: TIE: Orson Bean - 100% (3 wins in 3 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 100% (3 wins in 3 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 80% (4 wins in 5 attempts). Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Betty - 50% (15 wins in 30 attempts). TIE: Fannie - 50% (7 wins in 14 attempts). Charles - 45.7% (16 wins in 35 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Richard - 35.1% (72 wins in 205 attempts). Bert - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). Brett - 32.1% (9 wins in 28 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 415, excluding the lost/missing episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")
Slow week but Gary won the week giving away 8,250 dollars in 2 head to head and audience match matches for the semi regulars. Richard gave away 1,000 dollars in audience match matches for the regulars.. Brett, Lee, Richard and Gary all tied with 10 matches each.
From the Bakersfield Californian, 5/31/1975: CHICAGO (AP) - John Levinson Jr. of Chicago, a 32-year old pro golfer and son of an outstanding amateur golfer, was killed Thursday in a pileup of two trucks and four cars on rainswept Kennedy Expressway. Levinson, who died of head injuries in a hospital an hour after the crash, had been on the pro golf circuit until he broke his hand three years ago. He failed to qualify recently in trials for next month's U.S. Open at Medinah, Ill.
Thank you for sharing that. How tragic! It would have been just four or so months after this episode. I often wonder whatever became of the contestants.
His name was mentioned in a Sports Illustrated article in October 1969 about a golf tournament in Las Vegas which lured some big names in addition to the likes of of the usual guys just trying to make their bones on tour. He was one of the likes of.
That's right Simone, I was looking him up to see how his golf career went after this, etc. and discovered he was killed shortly after he was on the show. :(
Thanks for sharing. I, too, like to search for contestants to see what happened to them. Most of the time, they've gone on to live long, full lives. This one really is sad.
I do the same thing Simone, and yes, my heart sank when I read about his death. By any chance were you able to find out anything about the other contestant in this episode, Oleta (sp?) Lee?
I think it's Aleta, but no, she's one of the very few I haven't been able to find anything about. Oddly enough, there's actually a number of people in the US with that name. I'll look forward to more posts from you :)
When Richard was making the case to Ira (the judge) that Brett's "arms" should match the contestant's "hands," I assumed it was because he (Richard) had given the same answer. (He often tries to argue that his answer should match the contestant's.) So I was surprised to see that Richard had answered "nose."
Well I think as self obsessed as Richard might be he really does want the contestants to get the money. He crosses his fingers for them and really roots for them. I like that about him.
@@krkf8 I'd agree with that most of the time, but in some cases he is notoriously moody if someone doesn't call on him or especially if a male contestant is somewhat charming, and he's been known to give what suspiciously look like intentionally bad answers to not match.
"Van Gogh cut off his ear - but, my husband cut off his manhood". I'd have been escorted off the show in nothing flat. They wouldn't even wait for the commercial break.
I can't vouch for the accuracy, but in a comment for a very early episode it was stated that the celebs weren't allowed to use any references or euphemisms for male genitalia (dick, peter, etc.). And so far, I've never seen or heard one, and I've been watching each episode in order. Also, that same post stated that "nose" was a suggested alternate body part when a celeb might be tempted to say some form of "penis," and it's interesting to see how many noses came up in the responses today.
I think we are watching different games ... Agreed, he was annoying but he gave brilliant intelligent answers, may be you like stupid answers like what Brett gives.. There was one rotten answer, that's about it
“The great television station “Face The Nation” taken by the contestant ... however , obviously this television is not known by Dawson ... and Dawson lost and did not win ... and Dawson is suppose to be the “chosen” celebrity??? I don’t understand in that particular area.....
Dawson had been in the U.S. for more than 10 years in 1975. I'm sure he knew the program, but an equally-good answer happened to occur to him first. He's chosen more often because his track record for matches is demonstrably better than average.
How can you not love Johnny Olsen?!

The men loved watching this girl barely move her hips. Can you imagine what they’d think watching the way women dance now?
Next set of shows has Leslie Nielsen!

I suppose facts are facts, but I find ending an obituary about someone with his last failure heartbreaking. RIP
What a sad notice to read, but thank you for sharing.

Wow
16:25 Damon Runyon was an American newspaperman and short-story writer.
That is 2 for Richard on reverse calls.. ;0)
That question about Johnny Olson would be kind of prophetic because in the next episode...
Xb
Only 56 more episode until Charles is back..
Gary has settled down. I got used to him.
I was hoping I was getting close. 😩
@@pencils812 yeah, and started winning for the contestants which is nice!
The Sweet 70s...most fun
Apparently, the golfer died not long after his appearance on Match Game. He was in a six car pileup, poor thing!
Wow, that is really sad.
Anyone else notice that the music during the super match was playing like a warped record?
Hee Hee Hee I love the question when Brett was born
"_________" maker - Nobody thought of "filmmaker"?! I'm a bit surprised.
Kingmaker!
moneymaker
I agree.
Trouble maker was the first thing that popped into my head.
I was sad to learn that apparently contestant John Levinson died in a car accident less than 3 months after this episode aired...
He was only 32 :(

Missed opportunity, "Shake your money maker" (right after she did her belly dance)
Whilst wearing a costume from "Fiddler on the Roof," you are under obligation to choose "Matchmaker."
Johnny O!
I'm a nice guy so I'll say the doctor adopted Brett. Jimmy's answer of 🛀 is great but I woulda gone with her doorway
Face The Nation IS on CBS!!!!!
So you have a face to match those times when should-be matches are not approved...
😀
18:59 I don't Gene said Taxidermist right. or maybe I don't I pronounce the I (EE UH) dermist?
Sorry but "arm" and "hands" is not a match. But Gene affected the outcome by incorrectly pronouncing it taxi-dermy when it's tax-i-der-my

I would have said pacemaker
John reminds me of a young Norman reedus
What is up with ten contestant's hair?
Which one???
Soooooo....Richard def "hung out" with Aleeta right? We all can see that right?
Jimmie is so obnoxious. The look on Alita’s face when he insulted her answers to me is a give away of how she felt about him.
I Totally Agree!! Jimmie Walker is a Troll.
@@rubytuesday4379 it's not anyone else on the panel, so it's fine when Gene insults people lol
And now he’s hawking Medicare supplemental insurance on TV and still saying Dynomite!😕
One trick pony

She picks him again after he lost for her the previous game. I'm not EVER gonna be able to feel bad for a contestant who picks saint Richard
True but I would have said music
I am not happy with these results. Aleeta Lee should have been a perpetual contestant.
Jimmy Walker was not only annoying as hell he gave stupid answers.

find it pretty crazy how many women pretend to be a baby by sucking their fingers.. wonder if it was in their comedy acting classes or something.
That was gross.
Is it me, or does Gene Rayburn seem like a creeper?
He is.
Of COURSE he's a creep! (but he's ok)
