Jimmy is the excited grandpa passionately teaching his descendants his talents, Edge is the chill dad who hides his talent, and Jack is the crazy grandson who just wants to rocknroll!
This is truly where all three guitarists showed their brilliance. Jimmy is the master it's his tune, still he improvises. Jack is right on board adds his bit. And The Edge has a beautiful bit too starting at 2:39. They are all talented in different ways. People give Edge a hard time, he deserves his fame and deserved to be in this movie. It's not a movie about who is best at guitar, it's a film about the evolution what electric guitar sounds could be, what they can be, and what they will be. Anyone can play guitar. It's about the evolution and distinction of electric guitar styles and sounds. You can't have that documentary without The Edge. He change the sound of electric guitar forever. As Page said he's a "sonic Architect".
Exactly. I felt blessed the first time seeing this documentary because i grew up hugely into both Zep and U2 but the funny thing was I came away feeling the most connected to Jack White, the way he perceived the instrument most closely mirrored my own observations. I wouldn't have expected that going in and it gave me a new respect for his work going out.
Agree with you almost 100%, just feel like Eddie van Halen should have been in there as well, along with Jack, Edge and Jimmy. Eddie revolutionised guitar playing in his own way
Jimmy is like doing some heavy riffs with the slide , Edge is playing like almost divine sounding slide guitar and Jack is just going ham with the aggressive blues style slide.
I love how their slides are all on different fingers. And if you wanna look really deep into it I think it sorta shows the era each of them embody. With Jack's on the pinky as he was reaching as far back as he could to old blues roots. Then Jimmy's on his ring finger as he was sort of a middle of the line who took these amazing blues artists and refined and reignited their works with his own twist, and then The Edge and the modern, technological guitarist. Really cool to see the three different approaches to the beautiful instrument
What a trio. Each of them was essentially rebelling against the one previous. Edge was rebelling against Jimmy's style of solos and theatrics. White was rebelling against Edge's style of complicated effects and technology, and even to some extent against Jimmy's complicated guitar parts. Yet, each of them is also similar in interesting ways. White and Edge go for simplicity. Page and White are heavily inspired by the blues. Edge and Page go for grandeur and a bit of pageantry. The contrast is beautiful. 2:30 on speaks for itself.
I was 14 when i first saw this documentary. This bit right here near the end changed my life forever. I picked up the guitar and learned the slide and different open tunings aswell. Im 22 now and still sometimes come back here to watch this straight up magic. It made me realise how different the same instrument can sound in the hands of different people. Three legends, each in their own right. Sure i get the Page hype. I owe much to him and his influence on rock. The edge teaches soundscape and how airy and eerie a sound can be and Jack teach how to sound like yourself. I relate the most to Jack and his take on music but dang... the respect i have for these guys. Music really is something else..
It's funny to see how Jimmy always seems to take the lead whatever it is that they play. Edge and Jack can't help but to look up to him as an authority.
Just look at their faces! Jack & Edge look like kids on Christmas morning! I've just watched "Jimmy Page at 92Y" and he talks about this. He was blown away by Edge's solo. Apparently, they were each under strict instructions not to reveal their intended set list to the other 2. Page was (he says) really impressed because Edge didn't know it was coming so made up the solo on the spot!! Highly recommended: The full film "It Might Get Loud" & "Jimmy Page at 92Y" - interviewed by Sculptor Jeff Koons. Best interview I've seen with JP.
I play guitar, piano and harmonica today, and I’m 59, because of Led Zeppelin. Mum always saw me playing air guitar to stairway to heaven, and she thought it was so stupid, she Bought me a left-handed Dan electro 59 for £50. (~ $65.) and hired a teacher from Blackpool that taught me all of the guitar parts to Stairway to heaven. I put down the air guitar forever, thanks to Jimmy page.
In an interview with Jeff Koons, JP basically said he was blown away by Edge's improvised solo in this bit, which has a tone, character and distinction all of its own. The guitar "shimmer" sound heard here is another Edge tonal invention that is oft replicated today but was groundbreaking in the 1980s.
Imagine being one if the engineers that day! No one would believe you! The call to say "we've got a job for you, just record a couple of guitarists" then you walk in the room and see these three! 🤘
Clapton has lost it, he plays so similar all the time, quite uninspired now. But he won't even talk to Jimmy now, he blamed Jimmy for something totally out of Jimmy's control, and like a child can't face his mistake.
I have seen this a gazillion times and it never gets old. So mesmerizing. Each with their own individual and masterful styles coming together to make glorious magic!!!
I saw "It Might Get Loud" in the movie theater when it was released and this is by far my favorite scene in the film. This clip perfectly why I love all three of these players. Jimmy Page's guitar work on In My Time of Dying is my favorite Zeppelin track, especially the solos. The Edge's take on this tune is so melodic and beautiful and Jack White's interpretation is frenetic and sorta dirty. All three are such great players, but it's not so much their technical skill that makes them great players--though they are extremely skilled technically--it's their passion and feel for sound, rhythm, tone, etc.
Jimmy is a master. I’ve had the honor of seeing him perform 7 times. Just an amazing talent. In his prime he pushed what was thought to be the outer most boundaries of rock guitar. The Edge did the same albeit in different ways with different music.
My dad showed me this movie right around when it came out, when I first started playing guitar, when I was 10. And of course these 3 became my number one influences. Besides Hendrix of course. So deeply nostalgic watching this. Think it might be about time to tune my guitar to open g and grab a slide and see what the years have gave me. The only one that remained an influence thru my later year was page and Hendrix. I remember when I finally listened through zeppelins discography(bout 16 y/o) seeing all the gold I had missed in my younger days. Their hits are amazing and all the lesser knowns equal if not better. Can’t hear the song “that’s the way” off of Led Zeppelin 3 with out crying for my former self. Current self “I don’t know how I’m gonna tell you, I can’t play with you no more”
You can plainly see God is relating to The Edge, really enjoying his tone and playing. Jack is just trying to impress. But the overriding impression is the tone of jimmys P90's! Just that dirty growl! What a tone! All 3 are great guitarists, of course Jimmy is God, but his disciples are truly appreciating the lesssons of the Father! I camn only wish i had 100th of the talent of any of them! Thanks blokes for the incredible gifts you give!
Delta blues is a great sound but here you see Edge staying true to himself - he refrains from playing that style and instead works his own sound into it,I suspect it perked Jimmy's ear, being something he wouldn't have played and therefore different and novel.Guitarists often don't get it,Edge is his own little island,as little and humble as it is it is not more of the same blues, funk, shred thing - it's the Edge and you can't mistake his sound for another. He has a wonderful sound he got,in part,by avoiding what's been done.
2:47 Jack's attacking personality shows in his style. Even how beat up his guitar is compared to the others, since he views it as something to dominate and not to coddle. To his more severe soloing than Edge's.
I have never really thought much of Jack white before but that tone and slide guitar playing was really good hats of to you Jack maybe there is more to you than I first thought....blues album prehaps...
Restrained beauty. The edge sat perfectly in the mix here, instead of having three guys aggressively pounding, the edge showed beautiful haunting tone and meshed well with Jimmy's and jacks aggressive style
Bugger me! i look at those acoustics just lying out on the grass. prob Martins, and i just get chills. I also wonder if one of the dogs is the famous Stryder! After all an incredible song was written about him!
Aw man dont say that i was just enjoying them playing my all time fav ZEP song right on track in there own paths...thats was very interesting distinct yet still on the same page
The Edge is great, Jack very great, but you can tell what’s goin on here. They know jimmy is the best they’ve ever been in a room with. Or on a planet with
Jimmy Page is basically a modern day, guitar-playing Bethoven.
I SECOND that emotion!
Do you guys realize that Jimmy Page is deliberately wearing the exact hairstyle and clothing of Beethoven in this documentary. Absolutely fabulous!!!
I couldn't agree more!
Looks like him, too!
Who rapes young women.
Jimmy is the excited grandpa passionately teaching his descendants his talents, Edge is the chill dad who hides his talent, and Jack is the crazy grandson who just wants to rocknroll!
The Edge is hiding his talents? That'd explain a lot.... lol
+LedAvalon hahahaha yup 😂
I feel like jack everyday
Exactly.....
Can't hide what you don't have.
Jimmy finally looks like the wizard he always wanted to be.
+Trevor Gebhardt He looks like the modern iteration of Beethoven...
+gcsgt2104 a comment like that makes me feel that you should be in prison
+Matt Ludlam I agree
best comment jaja
I'm sorry but the Edge's playing here was beautiful
It really is
Ye you are right
he can play. don't let the effects take from his credit
Handy on the piano aswell
Yeah . Edge is a genios of U2 the best Rock Band hall of the time.✌

Couldn't agree more. Phooey to the naysayers! This movie gave me a lot of respect for the Edge!
It's like:
Edge: it must be distant and beautiful
Jack: no it must RAWK
Jimmy: I'm sorry yes but it needs to be FILTHY
Bullets the blue sky
Agree with you almost 100%, just feel like Eddie van Halen should have been in there as well, along with Jack, Edge and Jimmy. Eddie revolutionised guitar playing in his own way
That little bit a 2:36 where it goes through each of them playing little lead breaks, completely sums up each of their playing styles!
Jimmy is like doing some heavy riffs with the slide , Edge is playing like almost divine sounding slide guitar and Jack is just going ham with the aggressive blues style slide.
Accurate.
The contrast in styles between Edge and White is what makes this work so well, for me. And, of course, Jimmy's mere presence.
I trust Jimmy Pages judgement of who he chooses to play with. !!!!!
Love Edges playing and effects on this one
U2 is the best Rock Band hall of the time
I love how their slides are all on different fingers. And if you wanna look really deep into it I think it sorta shows the era each of them embody. i like the signatures of each artists clashing here. jack's agressive slide, jimmy's precision, and the edge's modern god-like lush sound
+Ben Snived You put it perfectly
+Ben Snived the edge does have like a really godly sound good way to describe its like divine sound around 3:13
They compliment each other very nicely in this video.
Easy, dude. You Just don't know how to listen to him. Give it another shot, eh? :)
Ben Snived always love jack, he’s as punk as he is blues as he is country, amazingly creative guitarist and songwriter
The level of epicness reached in this fragment is incalculable
This documentary should have been titled, "Jimmy Page Gives a Clinic on Being a Rock God" -- instead of "It Might Get Loud".
but Jimmy wasn't the only guitar master there jammin
Jimmy's tone is so damn t h i c c
I can hear Bonzo in my head as Jimmy counts off at 0:56.
And the stick clicks!
I'm a guitarist, and this blew me away, but it misses Bonzo SO much!! 😢
I really appreciate that Jimmy Page has managed to stay impossibly cool. Legend.
The laughter at the end says it all doesn't it? Fun and brilliance!

Jack's solo reminded me of Catch Hell blues. My all time favorite white stripes song.
mine too!

Blind Willie Johnson is weeping with joy in heaven.
Just look at their faces! Jack & Edge look like kids on Christmas morning!

I love Jimmy's face when edge interrupts Jimmy's solo. He goes "oh i guess I'm done, your turn, ok"
Whoever your favorite guitarist is, you have to admit that this is awesome!
In an interview with Jeff Koons, JP basically said he was blown away by Edge's improvised solo in this bit, which has a tone, character and distinction all of its own. jack white absolutely holds his own here what a way to present your skills to one of the kings of guitar on one of zeppelins own tracks
Imagine being one if the engineers that day! No one would believe you! The call to say "we've got a job for you, just record a couple of guitarists" then you walk in the room and see these three! 🤘
Jimmy has a talent above every other musician
What about Hendrix?
Aeden Connelly Hendrix wasn't merely a musician, he was a god, actually I mean he is/was god
Michael Hedges is up there with the greats. Theyre all great in their individualistic ways of playing.
They should've included Eric Clapton and Brian May too... that would've been like... a whole new level of coolness...
Clapton has lost it, he plays so similar all the time, quite uninspired now. But he won't even talk to Jimmy now, he blamed Jimmy for something totally out of Jimmy's control, and like a child can't face his mistake.
Is Jack White the coolest dork, or the dorkiest cool? Either way, love the guy.
3 Gods in a room
I have seen this a gazillion times and it never gets old. So mesmerizing. Each with their own individual and masterful styles coming together to make glorious magic!!!
Jimmy Page : the greatest of all time
I saw "It Might Get Loud" in the movie theater when it was released and this is by far my favorite scene in the film. This clip perfectly why I love all three of these players. ALL YOU CAN SAY IS WOW.
The Edge is light, Jack White is shadow and Jimmy is Balance.
of all the jamming they did together this was the coolest!
Jack reaching out to hug Jimmy at the end was so touching
Absolutely Brilliant... when great men meet... 👌👍
Edge = confused yet ambientPage = sexy blueys passionWhite = bats**t insanity
lol
The Edge is the best.
How so you not love this legendary? Three generations of talent lead by the master Jimmy Page .. fuckn brilliant
Jimmy is a master. I’ve had the honor of seeing him perform 7 times. Just an amazing talent. In his prime he pushed what was thought to be the outer most boundaries of rock guitar. The Edge did the same albeit in different ways with different music.
So fantastic! I thought this film was a guitar lovers dream.
This is my favorite video on UA-cam
Put a slide on Jack White's finger suddenly you've unlocked Super Saiyan Jack!
Best of the series IMO They all play amazingly.
These boys seem to get it much better than most
Legends !
Edge added the most character to this jam. Fantastic slide playing.
I think jack did, he ripped with the old school blues filth
@@Cooz.The edge. Jack was great but in the same vein as Jimmy. Edge added a haunting different approach
I learned how to play this song by watching this segment over and over.
Imagine this 3 legends on one concert .would i even think to go?Would u even think about it?
Hell yeah
there's only ONE legend in that room. it ain't white or the other edge dude
Page pioneered not only the guitar but duck lips too.
2:54 Jack jizzing all over his solo, Dats passion xD
You can tell Jack White just jumps in and loves it...right up his style of playing. Great film!
My dad showed me this movie right around when it came out, when I first started playing guitar, when I was 10. And of course these 3 became my number one influences. Besides Hendrix of course. “I don’t know how I’m gonna tell you, I can’t play with you no more”
Jimmy still plays it like he did back in 1975. That’s kick ass, sounds the same 🤘🏼🤘🏼
i.ve seen jimmy do in my time of dying four times live outrider 1988 page and the crowes twice in 1999 once in 2000 always took me to another subgiant
This is amazing. 👍🏻🙏💜☮️🎶

Jimmy's rhythm is excellent as well
Most gorgeous video on the UA-cam
Jimmy is the Barristan Selmy of rock no one dares to challenge. But as an ally, man they rock together
The first minute of this clip makes me emotional.
Listening to this without the drums shows how much of a difference Bonham made!
In the presence of greatness
Look on in awe

Can't get enough of this!
I've watched this video probably a thousand times just to see Jack White's riff at 3:24
Yep same here!
music perfection
Just them enjoying that jam of 1 of my favorite songs. Man to be in that space while filming and hearing those wonderful sounds in person man.
2:47 Jack's attacking personality shows in his style. Even how beat up his guitar is compared to the others, since he views it as something to dominate and not to coddle. To his more severe soloing than Edge's.

I had to edit because I called him jack black my bad lol
Watch "Deathletter Under Black Pool Lights" and you will be a total Jack White convert.
Jack is obsessed with the blues. His inspiration goes waaaaay back to the beginning of it all.
Watch Ball and a biscuit white stripes vh1 video
It feels like a battle between Jack White and JP. Jack definitely learned a thing or two for sure.
3:22 Jack has the muse there! I like his fearless style as opposed to the Edge's timid style.
Restrained beauty. The edge sat perfectly in the mix here, instead of having three guys aggressively pounding, the edge showed beautiful haunting tone and meshed well with Jimmy's and jacks aggressive style
Jimmy is the best, gosh would to see them again together, Led Zeppelin
Jimmy has so much swagger.
Close enough Sweet Prince, with the life he lived, I really can't believe he's still alive!
I love how in awe jack is of jimmy
Jimmy page is the máster of the universe
Beautiful.
Man, this should've gone for like 20 minutes, what the hell
that Jam was so freaky perfect '-'
The Edge knows his stuff. That helped him with these two monsters....
Wdym monsters
And this is guitar heaven…
Bugger me! i look at those acoustics just lying out on the grass. prob Martins, and i just get chills. I also wonder if one of the dogs is the famous Stryder! After all an incredible song was written about him!
Aw man dont say that i was just enjoying them playing my all time fav ZEP song right on track in there own paths...thats was very interesting distinct yet still on the same page
If I ever get my hands on a time machine get ready for the edge-free edition of It Might Get Loud
Great sounds coming from these 3 guitarists
Awesomeness at its greatest level
Jack White understood the assignment.
Damn, I wish I knew how to play. I think I’m going to start learning.
This gives me chills everytime I watch it.
That was fucking brilliant! Damn.
I'm late to this party, but glad I arrived.
Absolutely awesome
The Edge is great, Jack very great, but you can tell what’s goin on here. They know jimmy is the best they’ve ever been in a room with. Or on a planet with
Oh hell ya!!!!!
Its like the grandfather, the father and the son are jamming together😅
