I'm the proud mum of a beautiful gay daughter. I am volunteering at pride this month, to represent her as she's away.
I felt, viewing this, that maybe I'm not doing the right thing. However, even though some of your points made sense, a lot is to do with one's conscience and respect. So if I say something which I don't know is wrong at the time, I'm hoping someone can explain to me what I've done wrong. It's part of learning about other human beings, regardless of which community they are in. So for me, forget the don'ts rule book. All I have to do is turn up with a kind and loving heart towards everyone.
Happy Pride

i 8-2 Much don’t use god for your ignorance. What about “love thy neighbor”? And didn’t god made everyone how he wanted to make them? Preach everything not just some out of context you disgusting piece of shit homophobe
The fact that you are genuinely concerned that you will offend someone already makes it ten times less worse if you do by accident offend someone. My advice would be to always ask if you are about to assume something and maybe ask someone who is part of the LGBTQ community for a little more explanation on some topics

always wanted to go to pride being bisexual but my bf wouldn’t want me to..i have to keep reminding him that i’m not straight and that since he’s my bf it doesn’t remove me from the spectrum 🙄
Break up with him. Asshole
I recommend you have a serious conversation with him, if he cant accept any of this than I recommend considering you relationship
This is coming from someone who isn't for against the LGBT, if you wanna go, then go. Don't let your man come between something you want to do if you let him do almost whatever the hell he wants to do. If he doesn't let you do what in pride month for atleast a day and you want to stay with him, then maybe he's not the right guy for you.
Dump that jerk.
You should go if you wish to no matter if he likes that or not. Its your decision. But dont pressure him into going if he doenst want to:)
I, as a gay man, am upset by how many rules you feel you need to put on straight people to attend an open to the public party. That sort of discrimination is what led to the riots to begin with. If people want to go, let them go. If not, don't. But who are you to put rules on attendance? People need to learn to stop caring what everyone else says or thinks about them. Their opinion should mean nothing. Go to pride, celebrate the way you want to, and go home when you are done. Just my two cents worth. Either way, Happy Pride
@SMS101productions What makes you think gay people don't have jobs? 😂 And I'm sure you're a great person, what with your comparing consenting adults loving each other and being proud about it to paedophilia and all. 🙄 You are doing a disservice to all of the children who have been killed or had their lives ruined by paedophiles by comparing their horrific experiences to loving, positive adult relationships. I hope you enjoy this last dying gasp of bigotry that seems to be going on lately. Soon, people like you will exist no longer. ❤️🏳️🌈
SMS101productions exactly, normalizing things that are completely fucking stupid, and saying that it’s fine that they exist is not ok.
@SMS101productions I won't 'STFU' but you can GTFO.
@SMS101productions Please stop generalizing the entire community as feminazis who are accepting of pedophiles. Yes, there are people like that, and a good majority of the community doesn't like the people like that. Pedophilia will never be accepted in our community. (although I do agree that we need to cool it at pride, it's an all ages thing)
@SMS101productions A very angry Asexual, that's who. Increasingly angry because the notification that you just cause to pop up interrupted my art. So, again, gtfo, you damaged car bumber.
As a cis gay man, let me make the following observations about your video.
One challenge is that the Pride March/Parade/Rally is definitely a political event, but it also fosters an atmosphere of carefree joy/whimsy/freedom. These two elements, while not necessarily dichotomous, can be confusing when combined into one event. I think that people who are support of the LGBTQAI+ community may even be afraid to attend for fear of saying/doing the wrong thing. I reclaim for myself the title of SJW, however, we should also be really patient toward allies who mean well when they misspeak or mis-act, even at a pride march.
Your message, "Stay out of the places you don't belong to" is misinformed and alienating. First, it is often impossible to avoid certain events in such huge crowds. Second, groups with "complex power dynamics" need to understand they're still in a public place with (hopefully) people who are supportive allies, even if the attendees do not understand those dynamics. This is the best time for Pride participants to inform about who they are with pride. If one goes to a pride parade as a supporter, regardless of group membership, there should be no portion of that parade that's off-limits. Asking people to "stay away" from certain components of the parade that they might not understand can't be a good thing for the community. It's all about visibility. A public march is about showing oneself, not hiding.
If flirting happens, it happens. If it's done correctly, nobody is hurt. Making no-flirting rules for only straight allies attending a public event is again misinformed. You tell straight cis people that because they're the minority, they might be hit on by the same gender and should be prepared. Then you tell them they cannot flirt with other straight cis people in a public space? You really want to control others' behaviors in public. And we should all have learned by now that being "in the minority" should never lessen our rights. Straight cicgender people flirting with each other shouldn't bother anybody as long as nobody's getting hurt.
I understand social progress, but I think your double standard is showing.
I think it is weird to say cishet peeps can't flirt because
A. Sometimes flirting is just people having a good time trying to be a little naughty or whatever lol
B. This implies that there is no one who will want to date you, but there are straight trans or otherwise gender nonconforming people and bi/pansexual people.
Check the flags and use consent! Lol
Yes
I'm gay and I totally understand and agree with you
I feel like you can be flirty with people as long as it’s not like bad flirty and you stop if they say so.
Preach! This video is problematic in SO MANY ways!
Aaron Rosenberg I completely agree with you! I’m straight and I clicked on the video just to see if I do things that are kinda incorrect and it bothered me how it was worded. Plus my gay friend never seemed bothered with any of these rules that she applied.

Random Videos luckyyyy c:
I agree with the core message of this video (being respectful, etc.) but I feel like this long list of rules for cis/straight people creates a barrier where there doesn't need to be. Idk, just my opinion
The whole point is that these are rules EVERYBODY should follow, it's just that most cishet people don't realize it because they aren't part of the community. This video is just to point them out! It's just common, if lesser known, courtesy.
I feel the rules themselves are ok, but the tone is not effective for those who it would be meant for. Some comments indeed call it passive-aggressive or find it too long/strict (just behave and have fun).
Those that don't have the common decency, respect or sense to behave themselves will definitely find this too politically correct or over the top.
@@teambellavsteamalice yes, that's a great way to describe why I think this video may be ineffective.
@@Ash-vv6io I agree, but I think her tone will come across as a little bit harsh or preachy and may turn people off from attending LGBTQ events. Just my opinion though
@@Goat.Cheese In my opinion, people who found this Video preachy, harsh or a turn off, shouldn't go to pride. I think we need to say things a bit stricter sometimes so that even the people in the back (ignorant people) hear it.
Thank you for taking the time to use the longer version of the acronym. It meant a lot. 💜🖤
sending this to all may very supportive straight cis ally friends
Margo Sayre, lucky, I can't find another LGBT person..
Scott please hop off my thread with that incorrect and inconsiderate comment. That is not language that should be used by an ally, and as you can see this video is for allies.
Maybe not since it’s just a list of double standard bs
You have friends?
Oh
I wanna too
Pride to me is about loving yourself for who you are
This why I'm not for straight hating as I feel that is not helpful
Ikr?? Everyone here in the comments likes it and it just rubbs me the worng way.. she really can't tell straight people that they don't have a right to say something...or act a certain way when they're really just trying to be supportive, also it's not like the video is explaining stuff nicely.. the tone of her speech is kind of speaking from above, like she's talking to a 5 year old child, maybe I'm wrong but it really feels like that (by the way I used to be a fan of Steph when she was active on UA-cam so it's really not coming from a place of hate just disappointment )
@@oryan1640 oh no you're right man, currently meme-watching, can confirm the air of pretentiousness.
@@oryan1640 omg! Exactly my words in the comments! This video is actually misanthrop! Not about freedom!
Her "rules" boil down to, make sure you're informed, be respectful, be polite, if you're not sure about something ask someone in the know and if you're not willing to do your research it might be better not to go. And somehow that's straight hating? It really isn't unless you have a big ego.

I am so about Gay Pride and Rights but I think that the banning of the Toronto police from the Parade is the height of Hate & Hypocrisy. We fought for Human Rights only to Discriminate. So Wrong. Either Everyone is Included or it is Exclusion and Discrimination. This is sentiment of many Gay people in Toronto.
Well said! You win the internet!
You said it. Even in the video she mentions that is best not to go to certain events if you don’t belong to a certain group. To me that is a discriminative practice. An inclusive community on the outside but segregated on the inside.
I'm bi and going to pride in a few days I'm so excited

*STRAIGHT PEOPLE WHO WATCHED THIS VIDEO, PLEASE READ THIS*
1. Agree
2. Agree
3. Disagree. Being respectful is definitely important but people will have their own opinions on what they are and aren’t okay with and, most likely, attempting to change their mind will be futile. It’s kind of like me and my beliefs. You would never be able to convince me that the LGBTQ+ community isn’t “holy”, or “healthy”, or “right”, etc because I am a part of it and will support and protect it to the best of my power as long as I live. It might be the same for them. They might have extremely strong opinions that no matter how hard you try, you won’t be able convince them that they are wrong to believe those things. The bottom line is people have the right to believe what they want to. Forcing your beliefs on them would be taking away those rights.
4. Agree
5. Disagree. Some slang can be hurtful. Like “dyke”, one of the examples you used, or “faggot”. But “queer” is not offensive. It’s in LGBTQ+ for Christ’s sake. Q - queer. What if you’re trying to explain to someone what all of the letters in LGBTQ+ means? What do you do? Skip that one? In my eyes, “queer” is not offensive and was never meant to be in the first place. Moving on. What about informing someone about offensive terms? Also the thing about only LGBTQ+ people can use those terms. If they’re offensive then why do we use them at all? In our community all we want is general acceptance and equality. If only a certain group of people can use a certain group of terms, that is just drawing more attention to our differences.
6. Disagree. Why stay away from other groups? Why can’t you socialize and share opinions, beliefs, and ideas? Pride events give you a chance to meet like-minded people and make friends. Don’t isolate yourself. Explore.
7. Agree
8. Disagree. Pride events give you a chance to celebrate so why not dress up a bit? I understand that dressing up with the intent of making fun of the culture is disrespectful. But if you mean well, why not? I see it as a way of celebrating and supporting our culture. That statement stands unless, as I said earlier, you are making an effort to offend and ridicule the LGBTQ+ community. Another thing is why are you only attacking men in your examples?
9. Agree
10. Disagree. Don’t be telling people how to spend their money. Because, of course, it is *their* money. Not yours. Maybe they don’t have much either and are spending more than usual because it’s a special occasion.
*Disclaimer:*
*These are just my opinions. I don’t speak for the whole community. I’m just trying to express my ideas and opinions openly.*
Thanks!

Oh it's my high school support system! I've missed your videos girl! ☺️
It me! I'm back and gayer than ever!
@@ElloSteph "gayer than ever" such a smart play on words, we stan a poet!
I agree with most of what you said, with the main exception being the use of the word queer. For some in the community that is how they identify. It's been used as an identity since the 80s, and some would prefer you use that over calling them gay or bi or whatever. Usage matters, and you should never use a word to describe someone that they are uncomfortable with, and there's a big difference between referring to someone as being queer vs. saying they're A queer, but the word itself has such a different meaning than it used to, that I don't think a blanket ban from all cis straights is the right approach. Kinda erases those who identify that way.
I've seen quite a bit of controversy around this. A friend of mine made a facebook post at one point saying 'queer is still a slur, straight/cis people can't say it." I tend to agree with you that the context is the most important thing. I would be okay with a cis het person saying 'the queer community' in conversation for example. But if you're at a pride event it's possible not everyone there will agree and it's best to be safe.
i'm glad you mentioned straight cis men liking to wear feminine-coded clothing bc a LOT of my transfeminine friends started their journey by realizing that they liked to wear feminine-coded clothes, and the lines we draw for someone being x gender is SUPER fluid. thanks for articulating the difference between wearing clothes bc you like them and wearing them bc you think it's funny.

I honestly don’t think that we should be telling the supportive people that aren’t part of the community but still want to show up all these rules. There’s only about two rules they should really follow and that’s to be polite and respectful and ask to take pictures. You should also say that you openly support our community so people don’t get the wrong idea, I feel like your being too much of a gate keeper

LA Pride is this week I can’t wait till Saturday ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Pride! A place to be free, inclusive, and enjoy yourself, also here's a long list of authoritarian rules for those of you who aren't in our club....
As a cisgender female I’m open to learn about the LGBT and how to respect them...
( BTW the sign you have in the back is hilarious)
I never heard of cisgender what's that? Btw hows ur pride month going mine is awesome knowing people support us
I'm watching this, prepping for the (postponed) pride festival my gay friend and I are going to in October:) I've always been an ally for him and anyone else I encounter in the community, just refreshing & checking to make sure I'm not oblivious to anything when we go🤙
As an asexual, thank you so much for using LGBTQA. I’m excited that we are getting more representation. ❤️
Yes! I thought the same thing! :)
hola I was waiting so long for this you look so pretty I’m glad you are ok queen
Understand some of the "rules" but I think it's messed up saying "it's not something for you and you straight bestfriends to go to". I'm straight and I support the community so why can't I go? Not saying that I'm letting this stop me from going, but I just think it's wrong. Wouldn't you welcome others with open arms that stand by and support you?
For me she is just saying that that not an activity that you can do for "fun" this is a manifestation for right for the lgbt+++ so not just a place that you can go when you're bored... I don't think it was supposed to be offensive but to remember that we protest to have rights and remember the people who did it before us
I'm bi and i'm proud!
I see everyone as an equal
Ps I’m am a ace
Hum, I am glad that I am no where near wherever you are celebrating pride. I have never seen so much hypocrisy this side of a church. "Pride is a way for US to be ourselves and express who we are, BUT YOU can only come and watch (like at the zoo) but you can't think, speak or act" as expressed in #4-#9, but we will gladly accept your money #10...No wonder there are some people who actually want a Straight Pride.
I am a Gay Male, who has been out since the middle 1980's...I have non-biological family that is gay, bi, straight and even asexual. I have biological family that is straight, gay, bi and lesbian...Everyone of us are adults and are enough of an adult to know how to act around different people.
I don't know where you celebrate pride but where I do, people mind their manners and don't need a passive aggressive list to tell them how to act.
I originally thought this was going to be a video on how to enjoy PRIDE, like where and when is best to get drinks, what not to eat and so on...#1 though #3 were almost like that, but NO!
I'm gay!
FYI - has anyone noticed that the lines in the pride flag are straight 🏳️🌈 or is it just me 👀

Hi, kinda me today ;)
I'm straight and Asexual. So i Decided to watch this video :P
Be naked when I get home. Lbvs great video to make tho 👏👏
i love her sign in the back that says "be naked when i get home"
Their sign tho, "Be Naked When I Get Home" XD
I REALISED I WAS A LESBIAN THIS YEAR ;)
Whenever someone refers 2 us as ‘queer folk’ I immediately think of us as elves living in a secluded forest away from civilization wearing outfits made out of our flags lol anyone else agree?
There is a video on UA-cam with Marsha in which he says that he didn't arrive at Stonewall until it was all over. There are multiple interviews with him in which he has said he wasn't there. I'm also saying HE because Marsha didn't identify as trans. In multiple interviews he refers to himself as a drag queen and gay man.
There are also multiple threads on twitter from relatives of some of Marsha's best friends. All the threads say that Marsha only referred to himself as "she" because it's a part of drag culture and he 100% identified as a GAY MAN.
Storme DeLarverie, a butch black lesbian started the riots. There are countless amounts of interviews that confirm this. STOP repeating false information that you read on Twitter.
SHE IS BACK!!
and gayer than ever!
Surely there is a difference between people associated with LGBTQAI+ community and the general cis straight community with no real connection that are just curious.
"...LGBTQ... _AI+?"_ 😟 My god. How many letters are necessary, here?
@@lazyperfectionist1 I like H+, I'm hoping it will blow up.

Yeah, it can be confusing or annoying to some. You could argue lgbtq+ is broad enough with + being like an other category. But asexual or intersex may like separate recognition. I'm kinda a bit lazy myself and you shouldn't annoy people telling them the miss letters or use wrong word.
But if people make the effort to use the full LGBTQAI+ why complain it's too many letters?
@@teambellavsteamalice I'm not complain that it's too many. I'm asking how many are necessary.
Lazy Perfectionist Human sexuality is expansive and there could be as many labels as there are people.
