Have you found a strategy that really helped prevent your cat from getting cystitis flair-ups? Let me know! (sorry the audio sync seems a little off - not sure what's up with that!) If you've got a male cat you need to know about a blocked bladder: ua-cam.com/video/cemeKM_T53s/v-deo.html
thanks from China! everything was just like you said! My cats get much better after we did environment change. Vets in Shanghai did many tests and charged me over $1000 for finding nothing and gave me some questionable antibiotics which i have never gave to My cat. anyway, thanks alot for such valuable information!
Pleased you found the information useful. Unfortunately a lot of tests need to be run if a specific rather than presumptive diagnosis it to be made and in the majority of cases they will all come back normal. Keep up the changes you've made and hopefully it won't be a repeat problem
Not certain about the points made but ,if anyone else is searching for female cat marking try Kiamiin Meow Genie (search on google ) ? Ive heard some super things about it and my co-worker got amazing results with it.
hey ,if anyone else is searching for why is my cat spraying try Magonsi Cat Spray Expert (just google it ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my work buddy got amazing success with it.
There are several factors in reducing cat spraying at home . One plan I found which successfully combines these is the Makale cat cure (google it if you're interested) definately the most incredible blueprint that I've heard of. Check out the interesting info .
Guys my cat went to the vet 3x for this thousands of dollars later and medications that didnt do anything guess what helped!….. you must change their water to distilled water, not fridge water not tap, but distilled and also switched to giving him tuna water with small chunks of tuna…. Hydrated him soo much!
Thank you so much. I have an appointment for my cat tomorrow. I noticed her straining last night and then again today. Both times in odd places. I love her so much, can't let her be in any discomfort. Thanks again, you've given me some assurance that she will be ok. 🇺🇸😘
My ragdoll cat just had it, picked him up from vet yesterday. It's a second time for two years. I see my mistakes now. Cat have to have an active life - play well, explore new stuff etc - especially big cats like ragdolls. I work a lot, so I don't have enough time to play with my cat. Thank you for video. ps to every cat owner: treat your cat like you treat yourself(even better), and its a good idea to get another one or a dog so they could play with each other
mental stimulation and activity is certainly important. When more than 1 cat lives in a house though there can actually be more stress than living by themselves
I know this video is really old but I found a very cheap and effective way to drastically increase my cat's water intake. I put 1/4 can of Fancy Feast salmon in a cereal bowl, add lots of water, and stir it into a soup. Now I'm concerned she's drinking too much so I've cut back. I also go out with her now to scare off cat-bullies with a loud hiss. It works.
My 11yo cat got one last year after fireworks and had the exact same thing this year. It lasts on and off for a few months and then goes away again. He’s peeing blood and struggling to go and isn’t going in his litter tray like he’s meant to. He’s on anti inflammatories and painkillers once a day. I’m so worried about him he’s literally like my child 😭
Thank you for this video. I have a 6 year old male cat that I adopted earlier this year. Last Monday he was diagnosed with idiopathic cystitis after I took him to the vet when he couldn't pee and was yowling in pain. He still has trouble peeing, I even took him to the vet again last Friday for a check up and might take him back today depending on how his peeing goes. He gets extremely scared and stressed visiting the vet, so it's very difficult to weigh the positives and negatives of going since it might worsen his condition. With that said, I am pretty lucky with my cat when it comes to medicine, food and water. He will eat anything. I can place the medicine (which is in tablet form) on top of a piece of his dry food and he'll eat it now problem. I can also mix his dry food with plenty of water and he'll eat the food and drink all of the water. Furthermore, I can also mix the wet food he gets with water and he'll consume it all. So if anyone is in a similar situation as me, try different ways of mixing in water with your cat's food. Some cats might be like mine and just consume the food and water whichever way you mix it in. Some cats might want the dry food to mix with the water for a while before they consider consuming it. Also - stay in touch with your vet. Since my contact has been with the emergency vet in my city, I feel like I'm taking up their valuable time, but I have to remind myself that my cat is still walking a fine line between being resting at home and having to go to the emergency once more depending on the how his illness progresses. So staying in touch with my vet clinic ensures that I'll know exactly when I should go if the situation calls for it. Finally, I have a camera by the two litter boxes that lets me know every time it sees movement. When it does, I'll check to see if it is my male cat and I'll immediately clean the litter box after he is done and check how much he has peed. Yesterday I collected all the pee mixed with the litter in a bowl to get an idea of how much he peed during his periods of peeing (he goes to pee several times for an hour, then he is fine for a few hours before he has to go again). I found out that he does empty his bladder quite well, even though it takes an hour and several visits to the litter box to do so. Just stay super informed about every step your cat takes. If your cat can't pee or if your cat doesn't empty the bladder enough, the situation can very quickly turn extremely dire and in worse cases: death. I hope my experience helps anyone who might be reading this comment. And I hope my male cat will get through this without any further visits to the vet.
May I know which kind of medicine they gave you for the relief? I’m having the same issues here and it’s the second time already for urine problems. We are in Maldives and can’t do anything much😭 it’s impossible to go to the vet for emergencies from islands we live in. And the vet clinic is very minimal, even the meds we have to take from human pharmacy’s depending on stock. Please let me know😭🙏🏼thanks
@@insouciance799 My cat got prazosin and onsior. But I think it's important to consult with a vet before medicating. And remember that idiopathic cystitis is not treated itself, you just treat the symptoms and wait for the cat to recover on their own. Making sure they drink a lot of water and reduce the stress is the most important thing.
@@incompetentlogistics thanks so much! At the moment we couldn’t get any pain killers here 😭🙏🏼just using antibodies at the moment. And leeping an eye on things and water and leaving him space Thank you for the words and hope everything will be well soon😭🙏🏼
@@insouciance799 I wish you luck as well! I know how chaotic it is when your best feline friend is ill. I was crying my eyes out when my cat was at the vet and all scared, bundled up in a corner. I'm lucky though that he loves food, so even if I pour water over both his wet food and pellets he will eat it all. I also bought a can of tuna (for cats, so no salt added). Mixed it with water and let it simmer for a bit then cool down. He loved it. So try that if it's difficult to get your cat to drink!
My cat is suffering from this since last month. I am so much in pain. I cannot look at him knowing the fact that he is in pain. I just hope he gets better. I also pray to all the cats suffering from stress cystitis
Hey guys, I took my cat off tap water and he recovered. I believe it was the minerals in the hard water that were causing this. Even though the vet said that tap water can’t cause it and there were no blockages on his x-ray. When I was at the vet I asked about the water and he said no. He said stress causes it. I literally looked it up on my phone as he took the cat to examine him and within seconds, found tons of evidence that cats who drink tap water in hard water areas are much more prone to cystitis. He said to give him stress drops. The stress drops did NOTHING. He only was healed after I changed the water. He is still stressed out as he and my other cat fight all the time. He hasn’t had an episode and has miraculously recovered after I switched to the distilled water. It must be distilled water. Animals cannot process the chlorine, fluoride or minerals in spring, tap, most bottled water. And refrigerator filters do not filter out chlorine and fluoride. The screw on tap filters do nothing to filter out the chlorine and fluoride either. Many of the pitcher filters do not either. You can get it from any store or have it delivered. The water must read “000” or as close to it as possible. And also I gave the neighbor’s dog only distilled water when they were out of town to work with her and she made a 50% recovery in 6 days! She had osteoarthritis and couldn’t even lay down on her bed properly. It took her like 20 seconds just to sit and she groaned in pain. She is so much more agile and up and trotting around. It says it will take 7-60 days for animals to recover from chlorine and fluoride or mineral toxicity. It is causing arthritis and cancer in animals. Not just that, it’s causing so many other issues with the pets I was pet sitting for. Lipomas, paw issues, skin issues, brain issues, unexplained health issues. You name it, tap and hard tap water were killing the animals I know and love. I started drinking it too and feel much better this week. Good luck with this guys!
You definitely shouldn’t give cats distilled water. Distilled water is acidic and this will make their urine ph even more acidic and cause stones and crystals
@@bedelxo482 Distilled water is free of most minerals. It does not cause stones and crystals. My vet advises distilled water in worst case scenario of stones and crystal since hard water is sometimes the cause due to the minerals in the water. That is why you use distilled water in irons, so they don't gunk up with hard mineral deposits.
this information is so extremely helpful, my kitty I adopted a year ago is very timid, she is 9 yrs old and recently started urinating outside her box and crying in pain, with the pandemic the vet has curbside drop off which is a disaster and prescribed antibiotics and was so rushed and distracted none of this was discussed
My male cat was diagnosed with cystitis and was given an injection of Convenia, and Onsir (anti-inflammatory) he was super sick, he was peeing blood, when we got to the emergency vet they took him in while making me wait in my cat they only had him for 5 min! They said his bladder was empty. I have two cats and one litter box and I can’t tell who’s pee is who’s so I will definitely be getting another litter tray. My cat is my best friend I’m so scared I’m going to lose him. I’ve been giving him spring water but will definitely change to distilled. Thank you so much for all this information!
My cat is having this issue. She is 13 year old and was on uti medication, nothing changed. Given xray and bloodwork all were normal. Urinalysis showed blood and bacteria but no white blood cells (infection) .. so they diagnosed her with cystitis.. was on pain /anxiety medication for a week, symptoms never subsided. Shes back again today for more blood and urinalysis! I hope she recovers. I got a new cat last year .. and im almost 100% certain she is the #1 stressor. Ive changed her food, have her on soft foods with a little water added. Stopped giving her tap water, also giving her homeopet UI for her urinary tract.. she's still showing symptoms. Been almost 2 weeks! and $2000 later.. 0 answers! 😢
Is there a difference between struvite crystals and cystitis. My 11 month cat got urinary blockage of struvite crystals and the vet told me to feed him a prescription diet that I'm not a fan of the ingredients. They said the only cause is his diet. They just didn't explain much else about it.
What can I do so my cat doesn’t have to go to emergency vet ? The last time it cost me 2600.$ can not happen again it was very expensive .thank you for your help
I just picked up the medicine from the vet for my kitty a couple days ago ......I’m praying she gets better soon .....I’m putting a little water in her wet food .......added a 2nd water bowl
I bought my cat to the vet because my cat started sleeping on the litter box. The advice they just gave me was give him medicine and check his stomach and bring to the vet. If they give proper information on how to deal with this thing my cat would still be alive today. He died about 2 days ago because of cystitis and kidney failure and I'm still grieving for his death.
My 15 year old female cat had frequent urination and after the urinalysis and blood work she was diagnosed with urinary tract inflammation 4 days ago, I thought she got UTI. She took Onsior for 3 days, she is lethargic and doesn't have an appetite because of side effects. She has been a very healthy cat so this is very hard for both of us. And no more tap water for her, thanks to Leni Dubel. What is the difference between inflammation and infection? Please let me know, thanks.
Im so depressed because of this, I dont know what can I do more. If it was only cystitis, I would handle it but he also tries to eat litter and every non-edible things.
@Ron Krikorian Unfortunately, he passed away 2 months ago. We have tried several medicines to cure his diseases but he couldn't react to treatment. I went to many veterinarians and they said it is a really extreme situation that we are dealing with.
My cat currently has cystitis. He's an indoor only cat with FIV, he has seemed more stressed lately and wanting to go out more. I am currently getting him some high perch spaces and hoping it will help.
My cat has been running to the litter box for about 2 weeks. I took her to the vets and gave antibiotics she had crystals. The blood stopped but she is still running to the box. I tried the prescription plan food but she just threw it up. She eat a brand called wysong urinary. She had bladder stones in the past and an X-ray was taken and that’s not the case now. I’m just at whits end and so confused
i went through this also! No Vet excepting emergency hospital. $1200 later! Cystitis so I have had get him of 'Macdonalds' which he loves (Little Friskies) to Hills Urinary. Very expensive!
My cat got it often from stress, very dangerous...she cant be around other cats..she hate them...looove, fav food..no stress and antibiotics most of time

I have a local pet cat of society.. he roams around pees and poops out..sleep eat n play at home.. since 5 days he hasn't slept or rested for even 10mins.. he comes home drinks a lot of water or eats . Starts crying loudly for peeing..pees a little bit..but pees often..cries loudly while peeing. He is a male cat. As soon as he eats or drinks water he wants to pee .. vocalised loud meows.. tummyhas shrunked rapidly. Please help what can I do..no vets open till faraway at my place..
I have had over 100 cats in the past 30 years. When we lived using a municipal water supply we had a constant problem with urinary problems. We moved to the Rockies and get our water from a spring. We have not had a case in 15 years. BUY DISTILLED WATER FOR YOUR CATS! IT's worth the cost.
My vet recommended doing just that, tap water where we live is very high in minerals, so they see a lot of cats with urinary problems and blockage, which is what my cat os currently going through. As well as the tips mentioned in this video, I've definitely recommend start buying water lower in minerals, particularly calcium and magnesium. Excellent video, super helpful!
my 10 month male kitten has been peeing outside the litter box this week. he drinks lots of water and we have a new water fountain (he never peed outside the box before the fountain). i’m not sure how to help him and i don’t want to spend 300$+ on another vet visit (we have already spent over $1000 this year). does anyone have any advice? His bladder doesn’t feel like a hard rock
I hope this video helped. Here are some tips to get her to drink some more water which can really make a lot of difference - ua-cam.com/video/OehD3s8vIgU/v-deo.html
Great video. My cat has been peeing on my bed days in a row now. she’s indoor only. I’ve been considering leash training her so she can get some enrichment from being outside
Would having extra Hypovase to hand remove the early stages of a complete blockage & save an extremely stressful vet visit, for the cat? My 5 year old cat Snares is on his second blockage in 6 months. Just recovered, with a new diet. Thanks for the water bowl tips! Rest In Peace Snares the Cat. - The 4th Blockage killed him. (well, the Barbiturate injection actually killed him)
It's pretty debatable that prazosin has a really significant effect on the outcome following obstruction so I would be focusing on maintaining comfort, reducing stress, and increasing water intake even more if you get a flair up. The diet should really reduce (but not eliminate) the risk of further severe episodes
My male cat 'max'. Age : 1year7month old. On 31march2023, 11p.m. started going to litter continually, 25times in 10min. But he didn't do urine properly, only few drops. All night he went to his litter but wasn't able to do it easily. Next morning he eat some dry cat food and drink little water. 1april2023, 4p.m, visited vet, he gave max injection cettriaxone 125mg 1/4 . Max had no fever , max bladder was empty, max weight was normal. Vet gave medicine: syrup cran-max 2ml (1 - 1 - 1) for 7days , syrup cetspan 100mg 2ml (1-0-1) for 4days. 4april2023 11:45p.m. he is not well. After taking medicine he is not well. He start having loose motions too. I don't know what to do now. Key point: after checking with vet, I think enjection was effective. He did pass urine normal way for 3-4 hours.
I'm worried about my cat she just started having problem with urinating and I have no money to cure her because my mother funeral is taking up every penny help what can I do
Really really appreciate the information presented here. Please enlighten me with one information though. My cat was diagnosed with struvite stone back in April. He was asked to eat Hill's urinary hairball control food. He was fine. However since last 7-8 days he is showing symptoms again. May I pour water directly in his food? To encourage more drinking that is. He doesn't seem to mind and laps up the water. Is that safe to do? I hope you come across this long comment. Please advise me on this.
My cat is drinking from MY water... So...I gave her my mug, pretending it is mine..! I place it in the normal place, next to my seat, and I take a first sip, so it has my scent. She is a bad drinker, but this helps a little..!
Hello my boy has this and is slowly getting better. He is starting c/d hills prescription wet food and staying away from too much dry until he is all better for at least a week then maybe slowly reintroduce. Is there anything else I can do to help my baby get back to having no symptoms ? He will visit the bathroom an extra 2-3 times a day but is peeing. I already have feliway - Thank you in advance ! Love the video !
Why does my cat pee everywhere after removing his catheter? He pee little by little. And also, he doesn’t eat that much. Is it normal? What should I do. Should I visit the vet again?
I had to take my 14 year old cat to vets urgently on Thursday and he was diagnosed with this and had been given anti inflammatory medicine that i have to put in his food once a day. Problem is he peed when we got back from the hospital on Thursday but hasnt peed since. Should i take him back? Or wait and see if the medicine starts to work? Hes normal with everything else. Though he is drinking hes not drinking as much as he used to.
I have a healthy 20 year old male cat last week I took him to the vets because he had blood in his urine. So I checked the bowel for any unusual in the bladder and to see his response and thank god he didn't respond to pain witch tell me he not in pain and his bladder felt normal to me. But when I took him in they said he the 4th cat in one day with same problem. But the vet and I thought it was to do with the weather. But I do know it is common in male nurtured cats. It was the second time he had this. But he is all well now running around like a little kitten again ❤️ thanks for the video this helped me a lot for the future because I really thought I was going to lose him but it put my mind at more ease
My cat has FIV so I'm always concerned that his little irritations are something to do with it. M struggling to weigh out his food properly so he put on a little weight. Thankfully a weighing spoon is in the post.
I have a shelter cat for almost a year now. He was just prescribed a special diet but the quality of all the "RX" diets is terrible. What's an owner to do?
My cat is with this right now it’s been 3 days now and he’s very sad and barely moving from the spots he’s laying in. Is there any way I can solve this at home. Somebody help please
this video runs through what can help, but in males you need to be aware they can block which is an emergency - ua-cam.com/video/cemeKM_T53s/v-deo.html
Hello, i have 3 cats, one of them (her name is bella, female, 6 years old) seems to be urinating blood everywhere and taking a long time to pee, my mom took her to the vet multiple times but they only say that she is stressed, and they suggested us things like catnip and changing her diet, but it doesn't seem to help. we have tried everything but we don't know what it is.
I hope these tips will help you understand and sort out the problem for you and your cat. I also have another video about cat stress as well - ua-cam.com/video/FncqZ8C-Q-k/v-deo.html
I think my cat has this! A couple of days before he started not peeing, a feral cat came by and picked a fight with him. I'm so worried about him. I'm running out of funds too. Sigh... I wish he recovers soonest.
My cat went to the vet to get him fixed but it was really expensive and this disease can mostly come back again and we'll have to spend another 1k but we dont have that money so if it comes back next time we'll just give him to the humane society for dogs and cat to have a new family😭 I hope it doesnt come back because I love my cat he's literally so sweet i dont wanna be parted from him especially he has a brother here i dont want them to part
@WJ Sky he passed just days after. I even took him to the vet as soon as possible; he was confined there for 2 days; he was on catheter but he didn’t make it.
really depends on the cause, older cats are more likely to get infections than younger cats, and certain bladder stones or tumors will not improve with diet. If it is idiopathic, stress related cystitis or due to struvite stones then diet is likely to help. Getting the right diagnosis at your vet's is really important
I would like anyone's input on this intervention. I have 1 male cat and 2 females. Their diet is dry kibble with a bit of water in it in the mornings; then canned food, kibble, and water with 2 drops of apple cider vinegar mixed in for their evening meal. They have a water bowl set apart from their eating area in that someone said cats do not like their water by their eating area. ??? I started putting their water bowl away from food area and it did seem they started drinking more. Thanks to anyone who would comment on whether they know if this feeding regimen is a good one or not and why. Jesus bless.
My cat was just diagnosed this after a urinary blockage. Do you recommend using apple cider vinegar in anyway, some people swear by it. I really don't want to have him suffer or put asleep he's all I have 😢
people recommend apply cider vinegar for every disease or complaint in existence which says it all really. Keys to preventing recurrence are increasing water intake, diet and low stress. This might help - ua-cam.com/video/OehD3s8vIgU/v-deo.html
For humans, DMSO is instilled into the bladder to calm intersitial cystitis. Has anyone ever tried this in cats with persistent cystitis? I have had cats who received DMSO in varying amounts and via varous routes. They all seem to do well on it. DMSO combined with supportive herbs and supplements (the supplements alone were not working well) has seemed to make the difference and effect a rapid recover from long-standing issues such as chronic renal disease, hyerthyroidism, hepatitis, pancreatitis, cholestasis, etc. I wish it could also work for FLUTD. I have no idea how much one might have to give a cat orally, topically or via injection (not infusion) to reach the bladder in significant quantity and if getting it there might cause rapid relief. There's always a risk it could do some harm in the bladder, but I imagine it would be temporary. The effect on the bladder lining would be difficult to gauge unless I had some control subjects to compare to. If I had some grant money, I'd love to study this. Obviously, instilling the bladder with DMSO for already stressed cat is out of the question and I don't want anyone to get the idea that this would be acceptable except as a last resort. That said, feeding DMSO or offering it via gentle massage to the abdomen might be an acceptable remedy fopr many cats. - - - I know of a cat currently receiving 2 drops/kg in meals 4 x day. This is along with kidney and liver support supplements which alone were not seeming to to help as BUN and creatinine rose. Without any other change other than an tripling of oral DMSO amount, his renal function improved to normal status. Running out of the herbs coincided with a rise in creatinine so we don't give all the credit to DMSO, but do feel it's ain important part of the healing equation. I"d love to know what studies are being done with it. I'm just as curious to konw what cat owners are finding, if they choose to experiment with extra-label use of DMSO in cats with cystitis, or chronic conditions such as renal or liver disease.
As far as I'm aware there has been limited work looking at it's use in feline cystitis but that which has been carried out indicated that is may make a bladder or even kidney infection more likely in cats suffering from idiopathic cystitis. My female cat is spraying all over the box and outside the box ..I don't understand. I'm afraid she has an infection. I can not get her to drink water out of a bowl to save my life. I give her some water in her wet food. She sometimes drinks out of the faucet. I am trying to figure out if this is a sign of an urinary tract infection or cystitis.
The signs of non-infectious and infectious cystitis are the same. These other videos should help as well as this one - ua-cam.com/video/a2focn8st9Y/v-deo.html
My cat is a short hair black cat I have had her 7 months now. About 3 weeks ago I took her to the vet as she was going to and from the litter box but only peeing tiny amounts. I took her to the vet and they said there is no blockage "possible uti or cystitis". Prescribed proazasin gabapentin and amox. She was completely better in 3 days time. Now it's been 3 weeks and her symptoms came back last week. I mixed apple cider vinegar with her wet food and she was fine in 2 days. However just yesterday her symptoms returned. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi! Scooting wouldn't be typical for cystitis. Blocked anal gland or worms are the most common cause of that. Sounds like he's not happy either way so a check over would be a good idea so he can get the treatment he needs.
is there much risk of a blockage in female cats? my female cat (3 years old) has been on urinary tract health wet food for about a year now. she's more anxious than the average cat, but she seems to be having a flare up at the moment. she threw up a couple times and refused to eat. she's been nappng under my bed for a couple of hours now. vets are closed for the next couple of days so i'm not sure what to do.
does anyone have any experience with amitriptyline? (10 mg) i don't like how my cat gets stoned/sedated. is it normal? his breathing also become more quiet
I have a four-year-old cat, Missy. She usually has 3 episodes of cystitis per year, and shows symptoms like 5 - 7 times a year that I can control by giving her Meloxivet so the cystitis case won´t appear in its whole spectrum. It is really sad and frustating for me to see her feeling under the wether whenever she goes trough the episodes, and of course having to put up with she peeing on the couch or over kitchen floor many times a day is kinda stressful too. I don´t know if there is a way to avoid this pee problem, or if the only option is to wait until the episode is over.
Sounds like she gets a lot of flair ups, poor girl. Have you tried any other management or diet changes apart from using meloxicam? I've got another video all about reducing stress that might help as well as the tips in this video. Hope you find something that helps
Can colloidal silver or anything homeopathic help a cat suffering with this? My poor cat was blocked in July and continues to have multiple episodes. We have him on science diet prescription urinary wet food. He has been on cerenia, prazosin, cosequin, CBD pills, and now I am trying colloidal silver. He will not drink water when he is sick. My veterinarian suggests a specialist and has no other suggestions for me. This has become so expensive and mostly importantly, so frustrating for myself and my poor cat. Any suggestions?
homeopathy isn't good for anything. here are some other ways to get your cat to drink more water - ua-cam.com/video/OehD3s8vIgU/v-deo.html and keeping his stress levels low is also critical - ua-cam.com/video/FncqZ8C-Q-k/v-deo.html
DMannose works great. Buy a syringe. 1teaspoon in some water every hour for 4 hours. If you are like me and can't get all that down at 1 time, dissolve 4 teaspoons DMannose in a little water and give it throughout the day. This information works for me and my male cat and I got it from a vet
My cat has had Cystitis for almost a year now. He has a bad stress response. He is bipolar. He has had stress seizures most of his life. He gets them if he is startled or very angry. He doesn't have them often because I know what triggers them but he has had them since he had pancreatitis when he was 1.5 years old which nearly killed him. He is now 13. I have recently spent nearly $500 getting every test done for him and they all say he is perfectly healthy. He is now having constant diarrhea and refusing to eat. He is squatting and trying to pee all over the house, not spraying, just trying to pee. I think he has associated his peeing issue with the litter boxes and is frustrated. This started last fall when my husband and I adopted a new kitten. He is playful, friendly, and wants to interact with our 13 year old but to be honest, I think he hates other cats. He seems to have always had a preference to dogs, believe it or not. I want to help him feel better but both vets I have taken him to have no answers for me. I am more worried than ever before because he isn't eating or drinking now. I don't know what to do for him and it is breaking my heart. We have several feeding bowls, three litter boxes in the house (one is only used by the 13-year-old so he has his own space), Feliway isn't working for him, he is indoor only but leash trained so I do walk him now and then outside (it isn't safe to let him out on his own we have coyotes, bears, hawks, ect.), there are toys and cat trees in the house as well. He is on a wet diet and has been for years.
I'm sorry you are both still struggling with this. Have you involved a veterinary behaviorist or trialed any anti-stress pharmaceuticals? A referal to a specialist for a second opinion would be another great idea if possible
@@OurPetsHealth We don''t have any that work with behavior in my area. They seem to only work with dogs. I am giving Bach Rescue Remedy a try, the one for pets. I started him on that yesterday. I am hoping it helps so he can heal. It is very frustrating to take him to two different vets and have tons of tests done to find nothing is wrong with him yet I can see something is.

Hi Doc, due to total lockdown I can't bring my cat to vet, 5 days ago she urinated w/ blood, it's gone for awhile when I gave her coamox, yesterday i noticed that she's having blood in her urine again though I am continuing her meds, btw the coamox is her extra, i've been taking her to vet since aug last yr due to chronic rhinitis and ashma, i am quite scared now
@@georgekasiotakis2809 you know I am giving her a mix of 5 drops of honey with 3ml of brags apple cider with 10 ml of banaba tea, the blood was gone however she's still taking time to pee, she loves to drink water, I am mixing apple cider to 1Ltr and at night with concentrated cranberry juice. Is it normal, fr 1st to 3rd she pee with blood and fr 10 to 11 with blood as well now it's gone again? I will continue the co amox till 17apr, I suspect it's the Cebican dry food that I was forced to give them bec that's the only available, can I continue her Immunol and Vit C? How about the Lysine? Thanks a lot for hearing me
in the philippines we don't really use liter boxes but my cat sure is peeing alot.. or trying to, for the past 3 days i've seen him sort of pee alost 6 times day..
My male cat had crystals they vet kept him for 4 days to flush it. Now he is home and seems to having problems peeing. He is peeing on blankets but he is drinking and eating. Is this normal for recovery?
It will take some time for the inflammation to settle down, giving him any treatment dispensed, feeding a urinary diet, and making sure he is drinking lots of water (here's how - ua-cam.com/video/OehD3s8vIgU/v-deo.html ) should all help prevent an obstruction, although if no urine is being passed or your cat seems to be in pain or becoming unwell again then getting a recheck is a good idea. Our 3 yr old neutered male has this for the 2nd time in 3 weeks, going to the vet this morning. Stress is a factor, thinking our wifi router being on could be a contributing factor as we didn't used to even have it on much at all. Wireless technology is a stressor not just to our fur family but to humans also, I have experienced electro hypersensitivity myself and have only in the past month or so turned the router on to appease my 24 yr old daughter, well that's going to end now. Technology can be wonderful but it may also be the death of us, I type this as I sit at my wired desktop computer. Wireless tech/Wifi/routers emit frequencies that we humans cannot hear, so absolutely a stressor, just didn't realize how much - humans hear up to 20,000hz, dogs 45,000hz and cats 64,000hz. Turn your tech off at night and put phones in airplane mode, I can't even imagine what living in a smart home must be like.
this video runs through a lot of the things you can do at home - increasing water intake here - ua-cam.com/video/OehD3s8vIgU/v-deo.html , and reducing stress here - ua-cam.com/video/FncqZ8C-Q-k/v-deo.html Thats all assuming that there isn't an underlying disease causing the cystitis
Oh.... the vet I’m at recommended amitriptyline as the first plan of action... my cat HATED it, made her drool, she would growl at me, she started hiding and refusing food, so she’s no longer on that one. Currently trying Prazosin, Feliway and dietary changes, hoping my girl stays healthy. 🤞
soo a stray kitten that I took in is been taking a lot more trip to the water bowl and peeing not in a normal way, almost like accidental, like she can't hold it, any suggestions what to do?
i have two cats. one is healthy the other has had one issue after another. Sadly the one with health issues was bullied by the other when they were little and although they seem to get along fine now, the healthy one tends to over groom the not-so-healthy one, as well as mount him and bite his neck. I don't know how to get him to stop. I clap my hands loudly when this happens. In the past I've sprayed water on him to stop. Nothing seems to work. The one who is ill will be getting his PU surgery tomorrow as he's had 4 blockages in 1 1/2 months. He's been on pain meds and anti-spasmotic. All blood test, urinalysis and culture test come out negative for infection. No crystals, no stones detected in urine samples and X-rays. Don't know what's blocking him. Vets (and there have been 5!) don't have any answers. They are just pushing me to get him into surgery, but that won't take care of the cystitis. My cats have separate litter boxes that I clean daily, and deep clean every 5-6 days. Separate food bowls and water at a distance from each other. They've been on wet food, plus I add extra water about 1-2TB extra per meal (and now adding cosequin), served 4 xs a day at set schedule. And feliaway plug-ins throughout my apartment. I've recently cleared out part of my closet to get him to destress, but he's not interested. He won't go in. Don't know what else I can do??
Also when I asked about anti-inflammatory meds, vets in NYC will not administer because it will harm his kidneys. What else can reduce inflammation? He's been on his prescription food for 2 1/2 weeks. Prior to that he was on a raw diet alternating to wet can food. Vets think that changing his foods caused him stress. But there were no signs of gastric distress and he happily ate both.
It sounds like you have tried pretty much everything to reduce his stress which will be the cause if all other tests have been negative. We know stress in at risk individuals is a huge trigger and so trying to reduce it as you have as well as diet and water management are crucial. Have you tried something pharmaceutical like clomicalm or alprazolam?Worth chatting to your vet about as it may or may not be appropriate for your cat. CBD has shown some promise but there is no real evidence out there at the moment as I've discussed in a recent video. As for antiinflammatories, there is a black box warning on metacam in the US which means it doesn't get used in the States like it does in other parts is the world which is unfortunate in my opinion. I've discussed metacam safety in another video you might like to watch. You're absolutely right that the surgery should just stop life threatening obstruction not the actual cystitis so trying to find something that really helps with this will still be really important. Let me know how he gets on.

Our Pets Health Thank you for your reply. Post op has been a bit stressful. After surgery he did not urinate, nor did he at home (not even a dribble). After 36 hours I returned him to the emergency hospital. They were stumped. Put in a catheter to flush out his bladder. Bladder wasn't firm. No signs of blockage or stricture. Said he's healing nicely. Yet my cat has shown no signs of wanting to urinate. Put him in a fresh litter box and he jumps right out. Vets think perhaps his bladder was stretched and lost ability to contract. They will put him on Bethanecol if he does not urinate another 24 hours. Crossing my fingers that he will. Once he heals I will definitely follow up with anti-anxiety meds. Hoping that will resolve his issues. One day at a time...
My cat bleeds with urine on alternate days lile few drops 6 to 7 times and my cat also reduce its daily diet ...water intake is good ...help me he is 4 year old need suggestion i took him to vet 2 weeks before he recommend me to give him mebendazole but i think it didnt work
My female cat i think is straining trying to pee. What should i do help. I have massage its stomach n everything only a small dot of tinted orange color came out
This video should give you some ideas as to the possible causes and some solutions. Taking your cat to the vet though is going to be the best thing you can do if you do not know what the underlying problem is, especially if she has not suffered from cystitis in the past
GIVE YOUR CAT CBD OIL!! I have had a MESS of a time with my cat. She's an only cat and I have reduced her stress in EVERY WAY. I've taken her to the vet and given her prescription stress reduction food by science diet and the list goes on. The food worked for a few months and then just stopped working altogether. Finally she was hiding all of the time and it just got out of control with her anxiety etc. Then I started giving her CBD oil to try and help because I started to take it and figured if it was good for me then it should be good enough for her as well.....and it's a DREAM. At least for now. It's been a week and she's a new cat. Stays around, hangs out, and is happy, laid back....everything you want your cat to be. Give it a try. It's worth a shot.
@@OurPetsHealth Update: i brought my cat to the vet and he stayed there for 4 days and he returned normal but after 2 days he is acting weird again and he just passed away yesterday
@@priscilla3884 was it because of the uti? My female cat has these symptoms and I don't know what to do. 😭😭😭 I have bought a cat uti product, I really hope it works 😔🙏
Only 5% or less of cats with this condition have an infection and most will improve within 5-7 days naturally so antibiotics are seldom needed any if they are given without clear evidence of infection are unlikely responsible for the improvement seen. We all need to use antibiotics responsibly and very carefully to limit the further rapid development of multi-resistant bacteria or so called superbugs
any vet that says a dry diet is good... well, find another vet as far as cystitis, research d-Mannose (your cat will thank you) and stop feeding them kibble
D-mannose can help with e.coli cystitis especially, as it works by preventing the bacteria from attaching and establishing within the urinary tract. The vast majority of cystitis cases in cats are actually sterile which is the complete opposite of dogs (and people).
Hi! My 7yrs neutered male was showing signs of uti so I took him in to the vet. They did a urinalysis and it showed inflammation in the bladder (no crystals but he has had them in the past). He keeps licking his lower belly and it feels a bit hard or lumpy. Is this normal? Can inflammation of the bladder be felt through the outside?
If the bladder is big and hard because of an obstruction it can sometimes be felt easily. Licking an area lots though can also cause skin irritation which can make it feel different. If you're cat seems painful, distressed or unwell another check over might be safest. If he's had crystals before I imagine you know what to look for for an obstruction
Antidepressants are certainly one drug option but making the other changed means that in the vast majority of cats we don't need to resort to pharmaceuticals, especially important as this is often a problem that needs managing long term
If you know it's an injury then a check up might be best. If it's just blood in the urine and you don't know what happened then cystitis might be the cause and this video lets you know all the details
Hi, I think it’s quite a difficult situation we have here, but I’m stressing out like crazy and don’t really have much options left. My 1 year old male cat (not neutered) was a stray before we kept him since a baby, been a semi out door cat since. A little over a week ago we lost him for two days and found him super stressed just staying out side nearby house roof top. The day he got back he was finding it difficult to pee and took a long while. But got better the next day. Now he’s been having trouble peeing agian for two days and today it got really worse that he’s in pain and weak legs. He peeded a bit twice this afternoon but tonight got back to straining again. I’m really worried about his sitsuotn. We are in Maldives and there’s no professional grade vet clinic here, only a vet to consult with online and can only get meds from local human hospital. Been giving him augmentine, and bit more water. (He doesn’t like to drink water) What can I do to help?😭 *hes had an infection before when he was half year old, peed blood, got better after he had antibiotics
These things will often get better by themselves after 3-5 days and infection is actually very uncommon in young cats. I guess you won't be able to get hold of a urinary food so reducing stress and increasing water intake as much as possible will be best - this might help - ua-cam.com/video/OehD3s8vIgU/v-deo.html The big danger with a male cat is a blockage developing. I hope he's better soon
Thanks for this. I have a male and female cat who were found under the back deck as kittens. They are 13 now and their mom is still alive and lives in a wild cat colony down the street. People feed these cats and have built cat homes for them. They are are brother and sister. The male cat seems to annoy the female cat and then she attacks him. He won’t attack back even though he starts the fights. So they were living separately for a while where he lived downstairs and she lived upstairs with me. He’s just now come back upstairs and has started doing all of this peeing outside the litter box with blood in his urine. He does seem intimidated by her and I know it is this stress that is causing it for the poor guy but it’s weird that he pushes her buttons if he is afraid of her. He’s never had it in the past.
Have you found a strategy that really helped prevent your cat from getting cystitis flair-ups? Let me know!
(sorry the audio sync seems a little off - not sure what's up with that!)

thanks from China! everything was just like you said!

I hope she's doing OK now
My ragdoll cat just had it, picked him up from vet yesterday.
Has there been any change?
Update?
Hope he turned out ok

@@jellyfishi_ . I was told that " purified water" from family dollar is the water to get
Thank you for this video.
And I hope my male cat will get through this without any further visits to the vet.
thanks for sharing your experience and I hope your cat is well on the mend with no relapses

This sounds strange to me since animals aren't getting distilled water in the wild either. Will check out tho thanks for info
@@somethingginterestingg4275 creek water, rain water, etc., doesn't have chlorine.....
You definitely shouldn’t give cats distilled water. Distilled water is acidic and this will make their urine ph even more acidic and cause stones and crystals
@@amberd9227 are you sure? the cat water brand for urinary support uses distilled water
@@bedelxo482 Distilled water is free of most minerals. It does not cause stones and crystals.

So sorry ,my cat is in Hospital AT the moment and Im crying all day and night ,I know how you feel
So sorry I'm dealing with this now
My 15 year old female cat had frequent urination and after the urinalysis and blood work she was diagnosed with urinary tract inflammation 4 days ago, I thought she got UTI.
@Ron Krikorian Yes we have done all of them.
I wish and I want to bring my cat to the vet but because of the pandemic lockdown I can't. No vet is available. I DON'T know anymore what to do.
i hope this helped a little
Same
Really? I live in China and vets here are essential workers. Wish best to you and to your cat
i went through this also! No Vet excepting emergency hospital. $1200 later! Cystitis so I have had get him of 'Macdonalds' which he loves (Little Friskies) to Hills Urinary. Very expensive!
Thanks; *very* informative, you know more about CATS than they themselves do...
thanks 😊
Clumping litter I don't trust because pets get UTIs easier even if cleaned every day. I switched to hamster bedding with a newspaper lining.
My cat got it often from stress, very dangerous...she cant be around other cats..she hate them...looove, fav food..no stress and antibiotics most of time
@Love Conquers Everything hey loser, I have been working with animals license on the medical field, and certified rescuer for over 20 years ...Beside a cat owner for 17 years, who feed over 68 cats at the streets daily while you shop, and eat shit...also I bring them home for vetting by a doctor, very experienced...Just because you got your cat used to your bad cooking and raw shit, it doesnt mean is healthy..or that any cat will eat home made food lol, my cat wont even eat tuna or some strays, i wont either......maybe the strays in your country, plus your cat...Not even a stray homeless animal starving will eat your shit, and i been serious....Not a joke..BY THE WAY, I HIGHLY DOUBT YOU ARE PREPARING YOUR CAT THE RIGHT NUTRITION...ITS POSSIBLE TO COOK A HOME MADE MEAL FOR CATS WITH COMPLETE VITAMIN, MINERALS....BUT YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO DO SO..VERY COMPLICATED, AND EXPENSIVE..THE PROCESSED FOOD HAVE THEIR COMPLETE NEEDS -YOUR HOME MADE COOKING LACK OF...IF YOU WERE ON MY FACE, ILL PUNCH YOUR FACE ASSHOLE...MY CAT AND ANY ANIMAL YOU FORCE TO LIVE WITH OTHERS, IF THEY DONT LIKE TO BE AROUND OTHER ANIMALS WILL DIE FROM STRESS, GET BLADDER INFECTION, CANT PEE/ POO..PANCREATITIS,ORGANS FAILURE...OR ANYTHING WHAT CAN CAUSE THEM STRESS/DEPRESSION..
JUST BECAUSE YOU FEEDING YOUR START KIT KITTEN CHEAP RICE AND BEANS, IT DOESNT MEAN IT WONT DIE SOON...I HIGHLY DOUBT THAT YOUR CAT WILL LIVE A HEALTHY LIFE AS LONG AS MY KITTY..THEY LIVE UP TO 23 YEARS..SORRY YOU CANT AFFORD CAT FOOD...FEEDING HUMAN FOOD WILL DAMAGE THEIR LIVER, CAUSE DIABETES...YOU MAY CONSIDER TO SHOP LESS, AND FEED YOUR CAT PROPERLY...
PLEASE EDUCATED YOURSELF,
IF A CAT ONLY EAT DRY FOOD CAN GET DEFINITELY DIABETES, KIDNEY FAILURE, AND BLADDER STONES...I THINK THATS WHAT YOU HEAR AROUND "THE STONES/CRISTAL ISSUE WHEN THEY CANT PASS PEE, BLEED, AND DIE IF NO MEDICAL INTERVENTION..DUE TO BLOCKAGE, THIS CAN BE CAUSED BY DRY FOOD..NOT CYSTITIS LOL...
AND ITS CRUEL TO FEED AN ANIMAL DRY FOOD ONLY..THATS LIKE EATING DORITOS ALL DAY, CARBS, WHEAT, CORN SHIT...THEY NEED AT LEAST ONE CAN A DAY TO AVOID THE STONE ISSUES, AND TO PROPERLY FULL FILL THEIT TUMMY NEEDS..LET US KNOW WHEN YOUR CAT DIE LOL

Wow, that’s a lot of cats. How many do you have currently? Thanks for sharing

Great video. My cat has been peeing on my bed days in a row now. she’s indoor only. I’ve been considering leash training her so she can get some enrichment from being outside
I hope this stops the peeing. Leash training is a great way to give cats more mental stimulation and exercise
Our Pets Health thanks! Do you think this will work?
should do, stress is the most common cause, but if not then it will be worth getting a check up at your vet
Thank you for all this useful information! I learned alot more about my cat Lila Violet.
Glad it was helpful!
I had the same problem, my cat died, no vet would see him , i took to the er, they game him pain meds, and he died at home..
Stress can cause it....
@@coryzachariasen7023 I'm sorry man! Mine died too. In August. He was only 5.

I'm worried about my cat she just started having problem with urinating and I have no money to cure her because my mother funeral is taking up every penny help what can I do
Thank you brother.
Please advise me on this.
yes, try these tips too ua-cam.com/video/OehD3s8vIgU/v-deo.html
My cat is drinking from MY water... So...I gave her my mug, pretending it is mine..!
I place it in the normal place, next to my seat, and I take a first sip, so it has my scent.
She is a bad drinker, but this helps a little..!
We just rushed our 11 yo male cat to emergency vet, they diagnosed him w this.. so our journey begins now

We force feed him water honey mixture Is it ok ? Its very difficult to feed him anti biotics orally What to do ?
My cat is with this right now it’s been 3 days now and he’s very sad and barely moving from the spots he’s laying in. Is there any way I can solve this at home. Somebody help please

Me too. How’s your cat now? My cat suddenly started showing the signs just hours ago.
Hi do you know if **royal canin urinary s/o, be benificial for cat thats elderly with cystitis
really depends on the cause, older cats are more likely to get infections than younger cats, and certain bladder stones or tumors will not improve with diet.

Allergies can cause frequency in your urine as well and in cats can be allergies and food or allergies like pollen and mold
Would PU surgery be effective on a cat who suffers urine blockage due to this inflammation problem?
PU will pretty much remove the risk of obstruction but the disease itself will still need to be managed long term for your cat's comfort and welbeing
@@OurPetsHealth thank you for the quick teply
Hi there.my 4 yr old cat sometimes scoots across the room and screams before he goes to the bathroom.does that sound like That?
Hi! Scooting wouldn't be typical for cystitis. Blocked anal gland or worms are the most common cause of that. Sounds like he's not happy either way so a check over would be a good idea so he can get the treatment he needs.
Kelli Fox. All that & you haven't visited vet? Go!
is there much risk of a blockage in female cats? my female cat (3 years old) has been on urinary tract health wet food for about a year now. she's more anxious than the average cat, but she seems to be having a flare up at the moment. she threw up a couple times and refused to eat. she's been nappng under my bed for a couple of hours now. vets are closed for the next couple of days so i'm not sure what to do.
Becoming blocked because of cystitis is just a male problem because their urethra has an s bend and narrows towards the end
What is sludge?
Like sand rather than bigger stones
does anyone have any experience with amitriptyline?
Thank you
My cat has had Cystitis for almost a year now.

I don't have enough money to take my cat to the vet, is there anything else I can do?
this video runs through a lot of the things you can do at home - increasing water intake here - ua-cam.com/video/OehD3s8vIgU/v-deo.html , and reducing stress here - ua-cam.com/video/FncqZ8C-Q-k/v-deo.html
Thats all assuming that there isn't an underlying disease causing the cystitis
Oh.... the vet I’m at recommended amitriptyline as the first plan of action... my cat HATED it, made her drool, she would growl at me, she started hiding and refusing food, so she’s no longer on that one. Currently trying Prazosin, Feliway and dietary changes, hoping my girl stays healthy. 🤞
I hope she's on the mend soon
try CBD oil...was a miracle for my cat.
soo a stray kitten that I took in is been taking a lot more trip to the water bowl and peeing not in a normal way, almost like accidental, like she can't hold it, any suggestions what to do?
Get her checked over and Take a urine sample with you at the same time. Hope she’s ok
i have two cats. one is healthy the other has had one issue after another.

Oh dear, hopefully he'll be back to normal soon
I'm terrified.
It's April of 2020. I can't take my cat to the vet, we're in quarantine. I don't know what to do.

What's wrong w it?
My cat bleeds with urine on alternate days lile few drops 6 to 7 times and my cat also reduce its daily diet ...water intake is good ...help me he is 4 year old need suggestion i took him to vet 2 weeks before he recommend me to give him mebendazole but i think it didnt work
I hope the tips in this video help
@@OurPetsHealth somehow but i need some suggestion if u can
Mebendazole is for worms, so it won’t work for this.
@leni thanks ...my cat is fine now after some proper medication and care and changing his diet to royal canin urinary
Mother raw apple cider vinegar is amazing .
Is it safe? I mean, dosage and stuff
To give a cat a warm shower it open the canal and can pee better.
Can my cat die from it?? Im really scared for my cat
if they are a male cat then there is the risk of becoming blocked which you can find out about here - ua-cam.com/video/cemeKM_T53s/v-deo.html
@@OurPetsHealth Update: i brought my cat to the vet and he stayed there for 4 days and he returned normal but after 2 days he is acting weird again and he just passed away yesterday
prisxilaaa gurl yes it can. You should give it lots of water and if he stays sick for a couple days get it to the vet.
@@gerardosalas9477 thanks for advive but my cat actually passed away already
@@priscilla3884 was it because of the uti? My female cat has these symptoms and I don't know what to do. 😭😭😭 I have bought a cat uti product, I really hope it works 😔🙏
Dmso for cystitis in cats .
Tell me more on the use of this dmso
Gave my cat doxycycline 100 mg tab for 7 days and it worked. Very cheap too
Only 5% or less of cats with this condition have an infection and most will improve within 5-7 days naturally so antibiotics are seldom needed any if they are given without clear evidence of infection are unlikely responsible for the improvement seen. We all need to use antibiotics responsibly and very carefully to limit the further rapid development of multi-resistant bacteria or so called superbugs
any vet that says a dry diet is good... well, find another vet
as far as cystitis, research d-Mannose (your cat will thank you) and stop feeding them kibble
Have the vet prescribe AMITRYPTINE 10MG .. 1/2 tab every other day or daily..will have to be tweaked as needed!
Antidepressants are certainly one drug option but making the other changed means that in the vast majority of cats we don't need to resort to pharmaceuticals, especially important as this is often a problem that needs managing long term
Hey my cat is having blood in urine after injured . Please help me 😭
If you know it's an injury then a check up might be best. If it's just blood in the urine and you don't know what happened then cystitis might be the cause and this video lets you know all the details
❤️🙏🏼. Thanks
Happy to help!
(He doesn’t like to drink water)
What can I do to help?😭
*hes had an infection before when he was half year old, peed blood, got better after he had antibiotics
These things will often get better by themselves after 3-5 days and infection is actually very uncommon in young cats. I guess you won't be able to get hold of a urinary food so reducing stress and increasing water intake as much as possible will be best - this might help - ua-cam.com/video/OehD3s8vIgU/v-deo.html
The big danger with a male cat is a blockage developing. I hope he's better soon
Cap of Apple cider vinegar in watery food. Get them off commercial food, move to raw diet.
I hope he's feeling better very soon
