Tiana didn't compromise anything falling in love with Naveen though. Like Ariel gave up her exploring, Jasmine gave up her freedom etc... but Tiana consistently wanted to have a successful restaurant she built and she gets that, she gets more than that. She learns that you don't have to be alone, you can be in love and still get what you've been working for.
The Aesop that's hammered into Tiana from her mom, dad and Odie is that she'll only find true happiness with a man, not her dream of owning a restaurant. You can make an argument that the lesson is materialism is bad, but what's worse is telling girls that you'll never be fully happy as a single woman with a career unless you marry a man. Thankfully Zootopia took a different route and let Judy reach her dream job without needing to fall in love with the first guy she met. Hopefully Elsa stays single in Frozen 2.
BishtrainerTai16 I disagree. I think they were telling her that her ambitions are great, but that she’s allowed to want more than just that. It’s very nuanced for a black female character to be told that, especially because, in many narratives, we’re told we can’t have love because we’re too strong and independent. Tiana was, but she was also human and very much allowed to want more than one thing.
BishtrainerTai16 Actually the lesson hammered into her wasn’t she won’t be happy without a man, it’s that she won’t be happy without love. Yes she falls in love and gets married, but she straight out says that her father didn’t have what he wanted, he had what he needed, love. He had the love of his family and community. Tiana worked hard and forgot about how love brings people together and makes them stronger and it wasn’t until she fell in love that she realized that her restaurant wouldn’t bring her true happiness unless she had the people she loved with her as well. I think that if Tiana hadn’t lost her dad things probably would have taken a different route as it appears that after her dad’s death she pushed all Love aside to open the restaurant they dreamed of opening. Mamma Odie doesn’t tell her she’ll be happy if she marries a guy, she reminds her that her father didn’t have a restaurant but had love from friends and family and that that was enough for him. If you only look at it on the surface like you are yes, it comes across as saying young girls can’t be happy without a man, Tirana’s mom wants grandkids, I’m pretty sure someone asks when she’ll settle down and Mamma Odie plays matchmaker, but if you dig a little deeper (pun completely intended) and look a little closer you’ll see that they’re trying to say work hard for your dreams, but that without love, be it platonic, familial, or romantic, you will never be truly happy. Pay attention she doesn’t say her father had what he needed because he was married, she said it was because he had love. If they were really trying to say young women won’t be happy without a man they’d of had her say because he married her mom or they’d of killed her mom off and had her say because her mom married her dad, but she doesn’t. She says he had love. That’s the real thing they’re saying that without love, there isn’t any true happiness.

Meh, I really don’t like him. I mean he’s a good character and has some pretty cool scenes, but I honestly don’t know if him specifically is worthy of 2 Sins off. I know as a kid his death gave me nightmares but now that I’m older I would totally give 2 Sins off to that for how satisfying it was to not only see him get what he deserved, but also for the symbolism of how greed can often lead to downfall and how his friends seem to remind me of historical stories of people in power killing off servants who were of no longer use to them and how a good many had actually believed that they were friends with the person they served. Dkw but I always liked hearing about bloody historical battles or just historical executions in general as a kid.
@@calebproductions1264 eh, the whining is seen as a net-positive to youtube's algorithm and as long as you go in knowing that even the blandest milk-toast movie is going to be treated like a glistening gem in the comments section it's not a big deal besides, i like to think in the same way 'does not contain a lapdance' is just a cheeky line to keep the videos 'on brand' without seeming too cold or serious the 'now you've gone to far' is playing up the value of any given movie simply to be the defender against those who'd sass. it's farce and artifice built up around a very small grain of sincerity and a much larger chunk of habit. jeremy likes nude ladies and the audience likes x movie and each expresses that in a manner that is clear, trumped up and without teeth(not unlike half the movies being sinned, really)
Caleb Montes Listen! Don’t be so mean. Some of the sins are nonsense i just feel like he wants to find some way to sin this. I don’t care that much but i think it’s unfair to actually say one of the voice actors voice sucks. Tbh i just really think it’s pretty cringey i just wanna die. But there are so many good qualities like the songs, first black princess, a dad that died in the war “at least he did something”, shes not annoying, and more. The things that were really unnecessary was saying that “didn’t they meet 2hs ago? Like this shouldn’t be new that happens a lot. At least he knows some of her personality same for her. Can someone make this, but instead its just pointing out the sins in cinema sins. You think that Keith david seriously has the worst voice in the entire movie? Plot twist, cinema sins just started putting in random stuff cause it was not enough sins for them

Can I add one? When Tiana’s mom reads the story, it ends with her kissing the frog. However, the frog-kissing part is in the beginning section of the story.
Does anyone other than me ACTUALLY enjoy CinemaSins videos and not just watch them so that they can post "I think you mean NOTHING is wrong with [name of movie]" comments?
Dude, some of the sins dont make any sense like at the end where he says "so suddenly firefly light destroys the shadows?" Even though he did it earlier to save tiana and naveen? And I was surprised he didnt sin the fact the families where just standing outside in the middle of the night doing nothing during the scene where they walk out saying they have jumbo and invites the families? Even though there was no way for them to know they are out there and that the families will even want to eat with them as it was dinner time? So why weren't the families inside anyways?! Unless they were hoping for tiana's family to spare food? I'm looking to much into this..
Keith David does indeed have an awesome SPEAKING voice. But he really can't sing. It's up there with "You're Welcome" in terms of Disney songs sung by people who really had no business trying to sing.
I don't get it either, friends on the other side is one of the best songs in recent disney animation movies imo. It's just so catchy and his voice is BOOMING!
Also, here’s a breakdown of when I gave out many sins: 100 sins for sinning the movie 50 sins for “I really don’t like this movie” 10 sins for saying Facilier is one dimensional 50 sins for calling Almost There forgettable 1000 sins for insulting Keith David 2 sins for “I’ll enjoy this ‘later’” 20 sins for saying the movie feels like a Looney Tones instead of a legit movie 300 sins for the “We don’t want them to fall in love” part 500 sins for wanting a Disney movie to end on a bad note 100 sins for not removing a sin when Ray got stepped on (already mentioned that) 50 sins for their reason on sinning the “My dream wouldn’t be complete without you in it” part Also also, here’s a link: m.ua-cam.com/video/RDy9IMKSkg8/v-deo.html
Yeah one of the things that didn’t make it as popular was when it was made. You don’t see many 2D animation movies coming from Disney much anymore and it was around this time that type of style was starting to become less popular. I wish I could go more in depth but I got it from a video that describes why this movie was just released the wrong time.
As much as I’d *love* to see more of the world and characters this movie brought us, things were wrapped up so well by the end! It’s arguably for the best they just leave it how it is! If Disney wants to do any sort of follow-up, they could do so in the form of short films, kinda like what Pixar did with Toy Story after the third movie’s release!
This movie was literally the best princess movie. It was diverse without being condescending, AMAZING soundtrack, great atmosphere, not to mention all that sweet, sweet Southern Charm.
I love this movie. I love how historically accurate it is, whilst still telling a fun story that doesn't shove everything in your face. Protect this movie from a live action remake at all costs..
"A little woman of your... _background_ would have her hands full" would for sure get removed for its racist connotation, which is exactly the purpose of it being in the movie in the first place. We're not glossing over the fact that racism was very prominent in that time and the opression that people used it for, and the saddesst fact is that you see this exact wording used today. So if they ever make a live action they must keep that in because it is very important that we continue to bring it to light. Don't allow it to hide, thats how it remains.
i know cinema sins is also cynical sins and has to get the count up somehow but, Keith David was the best in this film, and "friends from the other side" is a remembered disney song. And anyone who hasn't seen it and then sees it is instantly impressed. Dr. Facilier is a show-stopper and stealer the whole film. I do wish they'd told us a little more about he got in debt/owed "the friends from the other side" though, I would've preffered more of that and less lawrence and naveen.
You can tell he hates this movie but like why?? I’m all for people having a right to there opinion I’m just curious as to why this man is openly upset about a children’s movie that by the way made moves for so many people. I ain’t saying this is the best movie ever or anything but there were some sins that would have been answered had he paid attention and then some sins seem petty, don’t come at me with the that’s just his humor crap because I’ve watched these videos for years and this was the first time I watched one that seemed like he genuinely was upset making this video the whole time😂 ngl when I seen this video I thought “this I gotta see”
At this point, I feel like he's just sinning anything just for the sake of sinning. This movie is awesome, and some of the sins in this video are completely unjustified. ESPECIALLY when it comes to the music! The opposite of an earworm? Keith David has the worst voice? Get out of here.
I liked the channel too, but consider that nearly 30% of the sins in the video are jokes, references, and satirical remarks. I'd advise you watch movie review channels, because this guy is really objective and the quickness of the review just isnt worth it for all the annoyance
I'm actually surprised he didn't sin the end where Charlotte is dancing with a 7 year old, and says "whelp, I've waited this long" I found that part weird
For ages I've wondered what you have against musicals, but since you said Keith David has the worst voice I can assume you have no ears, so all is forgiven.
ouijacorn I couldn’t help but actually laugh at this. Worst voice?? Friends On The Other Side is so haunting. Not the best I get it and all opinion but WORST voice?? And the sin for Almost There I was hoping he’d give credit to her amazing voice.
when he said "we don't even want [Naveen and Tiana] to fall in love" who was we? Naveen starts out a playboy and Tiana starts out too uptight, yes, but the point is that they help each other grow. That does not make her any less strong and that's that on THAT
I listen to the soundtrack RELIGIOUSLY. The singing, the groove, arGh. Like if you don't like jazz that's all fine, but Cinemasins really called it b l a n d???

This entire thing is harsh af. Ray is precious, they make a little firefly have a huge personality and give him such a sweet song to sing about his Evangeline - she's not just "a star" - who by the end he's back with in his own special way. I love this film so much, the representation of Tiana and Naveen from humans to frogs is so brilliantly done Tiana never changes, she ties a leaf around her waist before cooking, all while Naveen puts his feet up just like he did in life, it's great. Also, how can you sin Tiana for having hope?
Dude these songs get stuck in my head ALL THE TIME, the only one I don’t like is the one sung by the alligator, and I KNOW you did not just sin keith david’s voice smhhh.
This man just said the music is bland and forgettable and compared the one dimensional villian Jafar to the awesome and memorable villain that is Dr. Facilier voiced by Kieth David...somebody come get their mans.
"The music is sure to be forgotten"? I was hearing it in my head for a year after i watched it for the first time. Besides some of them are good not great but really good (Mama Odie's song). P.s. I watched it in russian and can say, Naveen not having accent is just bliss.
The music in this movie is INCREDIBLE though! I played "Almost There" pretty much every day of my senior year in high school. And continue to play it now that I'm a senior in college. Are you sure your tastes just aren't...you know...bad?
I had that feeling when I was younger but I just figured it was her gender because it still wasn't easy in those days for women especially women of color
Agree. This movie truly is a motivating experience. Ion know how I feel about Tiana quickly falling in love with Naveen but Naveen is pretty likable like Tiana. Plus it’s a princess movie sooooo imma let it slide. Guess CinemaSins is hard to please
It’s possible. I’m okay with it, but it’s not one of my favorite Disney movies. My mom mentioned not long ago that she likes Tiana, but she doesn’t like the movie much.
The “change in animation” is a reference to the artwork of Aaron Douglas, a fantastic artist of the Harlem Renaissance. The sin here is Disney using the style to depict African -Americans as servants instead of the strong Black people Douglas painted.

Are you saying Jafar isn't a memorable villain?
Or awesome, for that matter?
Jafar is better than Facilier in my opinion
Dude Facilier is so forgettable that I didn't even know his name whilst watching the movie.
@Chris TheHistoryExpert Insulting that the only black Disney princess has the movie that steals from much better movies.
*Cinema Sins: I'm trying to be unbiased
*Also cinema sins: _4 sins for a newspaper that shows up for two seconds_
he's really grasping at straws here.....
This channel has never been unbiased.
Seriously though
Actually, it was a total of 5 sins
"The music is sure to be forgotten"?
I was hearing it in my head for a year after i watched it for the first time.
Besides some of them are good not great but really good (Mama Odie's song).
P.s. I watched it in russian and can say, Naveen not having accent is just bliss.
The music in this movie is INCREDIBLE though! I played "Almost There" pretty much every day of my senior year in high school. And continue to play it now that I'm a senior in college. Are you sure your tastes just aren't...you know...bad?
*ding*
Totally agree! Best music for a Disney film EVER!
he said “the doors” sucked
so the answer is bad
yeah he's sure, its his job to form his OWN OPINIONS so you can have yours just the same.
How can you have bad music taste? Are supposed to like music that everyone else loves but you hate?
CinemaSins: all these songs are forgettable
Basically everybody in the comment section(including me): Well you see the thing is-
Thing is what?

I am now legally obligated to arrest you.
RadoMiami2600 HONESTLY. THIS MOVIE IS GOLD.
Can we get him the life sentence?
This is my favorite Disney princess film so you could probably imagine how triggered I am rn
FBI, OPEN UP, CinemaSins!
THIS MOVIE IS PERFECT

Minus 100 sins for Dr. Facilier having the best Disney villain death of all time.
Minus 100 sins for Dr. Facilier existing
Really? I think Scar being ripped apart by his underlings was pretty good. Or Hopper from A Bug's Life being fed alive to baby birds.
@@mstrainjr As terrifying as those deaths are, they don't compare to having demons literally drag you to hell.
@@geardog24 they stole that from Ghost though.
I'm sorry but I don't think it rivals Clayton's.
17:23 I don't think you realize that it was racism, and that's sad, because I realized that when I was 7.
You're damn right, they even say that “a woman of (her) background” shouldn't hope to run a business.
I had that feeling when I was younger but I just figured it was her gender because it still wasn't easy in those days for women especially women of color
I thought they meant about being poor and being a woman.
ECT nah because in the begging, they said something about her not being able to handle it and mentioning her background to get out of it
Same with the "your background" statement
Whoa whoa whoa, you genuinely don’t like this movie? I didn’t think that was possible
Agree. This movie truly is a motivating experience. Ion know how I feel about Tiana quickly falling in love with Naveen but Naveen is pretty likable like Tiana. Plus it’s a princess movie sooooo imma let it slide. Guess CinemaSins is hard to please
Hey, they didn't like VENOM! Everyone loves Venom!
@@beastlycharizard13 Are you fr?
I think they like some of the movies they talk about. They are just pointing out the flaws
The most underrated Disney film. The exact opposite of Frozen.
This & big hero 6 are my absolute favorite Disney movies!
I may be a little bias since I am from Louisiana but this is one of my favorite Disney movies
Yuh, my fav movie
I do really like this movie; lion king, however in my opinion, is the best Disney movie ever
Ali BabaAhmed *Treasure Planet would like to have a word with you*
"I got friends on the other side" it's one of the best pieces of music that Disney have ever made and the whole sequence of the song is wildly well animated. Let me put this sin on for you, Cinema Sins.
My wife took me to get a Tarot Card reading. I told her "If I see any dancing demons or independently moving shadows, I Am Out!!!"
Best piece of music Disney has ever made? No. Try “Be Our Guest” from Beauty and The Beast, “Not one of us” from Lion King 2, or literally *any* song from Huncheback of Notre Dame such as “Sanctuary”, “Topsy Turvy”, “Bells of Notre Dame”, “God help my people”, or “Hellfire”
@@Haley123ful well he said "one of the best" not the best. Its actually the most authentic Disney song since Coco, Moana, and the opening song in Frozen. It perfectly encapsulates New Orleans ragtime
@@Haley123ful I said "one of the best", not "the best" lol
Gabriel Cosmo whoops, my bad 😂 not gonna lie I got really triggered by what I thought I had read
Little funny detail:
In the scene where Facilier shows Naveen his future with the Tarot cards, the wallpaper in the back changes to skulls and bones where Faciliers shadow falls onto it.
sin
Nice animation fact! I love little details like that :) shows that the animators go to great lengths in their animated films.
I already knew that.
Heavy Lego crane you didn't really need to reply then did you. There are probably a lot of people who didn't know that so your input was slightly unnecessary.

Sorry for being such an awful person. I just wanted to point out that I already knew that...
The Biggest Sin is that the movie doesn’t get the recognition is DESERVES!!!!!
Okay. This wasn't my favorite Disney movie either. The visuals were great, but the plot was...pretty meh.
